When I'm in town for work, I usually ask a client where I should eat. This time I got a long list of recommendations, but one place kept coming up again and again. "Start here." That was the right call. The campechana was the highlight. Fresh, layered, and well balanced. It felt like a grounded ceviche with depth, not just acidity. Plenty of avocado, clean seafood, good heat, and bright citrus. I would order it again without hesitation. The mesquite grilled oysters carried a nice smokiness while still letting the brine come through. The seared tuna was clean, properly cooked, and texturally on point. Service was excellent. I felt welcomed immediately, checked on consistently, and still given space to finish a couple of work calls at the bar. That balance matters when you're traveling. Nothing here felt overcomplicated. It's familiar coastal seafood, executed confidently and well. Not a destination meal I would fly for, but absolutely a place I will return to anytime I'm in Katy. I really, really, really hate writing this review and it has taken me quite a while to get it completed. I like to write honest reviews and the reason why this one is so hard is because if I went on service alone, it would be at least 4 to 5 stars. But most of my reviews are about the food, and because of that, the best I could do is 2 stars. I do also want to mention the atmosphere. When we entered the strong fish smell was off putting. It was very strong, so bad that I should have left after the smell almost pushed me back out of the door. But I've been here before and it wasn't bad, and I was really craving some seafood to, I ignored that smell. For appetizers we ordered Shrimp Empanadas Crispy pastries packed with our classic shrimp and creole vegetables. They were eh. I mean, I ate one and that was really all I could do. My friend ate the other ones. For dinner I ordered red fish. It was NOT good at all. Had a strong fishy flavor that I don't like at all. I also didn't eat that. After having such a bad dinner experience we decided to go else where for dessert, and I am glad that we did. I would love for this to be a great seafood place because its close to me. But they've never really impressed me, and this last visit was the worst one. read more

Lunch meetings are always more fun with yummy food. We hosted a business lunch meeting with another company on Tuesday. The restaurant was not quite as busy yet since the door seemed to just open for lunch hours. The vibe fits the sea/ocean theme, a lot of blue color in the restaurant. The smoked redfish dip and the blue crab, corn, and poblano bisque are a must to start off with. Be sure to ask what the catch of the day. I had crabmeat fettuccine which consists of jumbo lump crabmeat + fettuccine in garlic Romano cream sauce. I enjoyed the pasta, but the crabmeat contained a lot of shell fragments. It was a bit embarrassing splitting them out into a napkin. Would I come back? Most definitely, but probably not schedule a lunch meeting or another option would probably order something else. read more

I would give this spot 3.5/5 stars! Fun interior with a bar in the middle and tables surrounding it with beach decor. For appetizers, my friend and I got the campechana de mariscos and oysters. Both were great but the campechana de mariscos is a must get! The seafood was delicious, the acidity from the tomato and limes were perfect, and I loved the additional flavors coming from the onions, cilantro, and avocado. Honestly, I would come back just for the campechana de mariscos. As for the main entree, I got the daily special which was salmon with a seafood cream sauce on top. The salmon was good and the sauce was okay- I personally feel like it woud've been better if the sauce was separate because the fish by itself was just fine. As for the sides, I got the seafood rice. The seafood rice had good seasoning/flavoring but unfortunately the rice was pretty undercooked. I enjoyed the garlic bread and empanada though! The service here was fantastic. I wish I remembered our server's name but she brought such good energy and always made sure my friend and I were well taken care of throughout dinner. Such a yummy meal!! We had the large seafood tower and we were not disappointed! There was something for each of us from the dips to the oysters it was all so good! Their food is always good. Except, A couple of weekends ago I ordered the " crawfish bisque " from their new crawfish menu. What arrived was not bisque, but gumbo. It was roux based instead of cream based with stuffed crawfish heads in it. I complained to the manager, but he claimed to have no control over the menu. He suggested I contact Mr. McCarney, another top manager, which I did. He never responded. Making a crawfish bisque in Houston should be very obvious. Goode Co. needs to either prepare it properly, or identify it as gumbo on the menu. I am very disappointed no one bothered to respond to my very reasonable complaint! read more

We went on a Friday night. Had reservations but went approximately 1hr earlier and were accommodating pretty quickly. Although it was pretty busy, the ambiance was perfect! Not too loud, quick service, music was trendy and good to the ear. Our server was PHENOMENAL! He recommended our wines and they were fantastic! Now, our food, unfortunately was not impressive. The stuffed crab had so many crab shell pieces that it was hard to eat. The french fries were super hard. The inside is lovely. We were served a fish skewer that was raw in the center, which is a serious food safety concern. Raw or undercooked fish can pose real health risks. When we informed the staff, they only offered a brief apology and did nothing further -- no replacement, no comp, and no effort to address the issue properly. First off the unsung hero is the host. I believe her name was Donna. She was the first and last thing we saw at the restaurant. She was always smiling and full of information. We went for lunch on a week day to get a little snack. The wife had the bbq chicken breast with side salad. Salad very fresh and so was the chicken. Lack of sauce but it didnt need it. I had the crab cake and side salad also. This is alleyways amazing and I didnt want to full up cause u know the capuchana is Houston famous. This was my first visit back since they did their new build, and I was really pleased with the look of the new space. It ditched a bit of the old style charm that I was fond of from the previous iteration in exchange for super tall ceilings and a really impressive bar area. Location has plenty of parking and there's a strong customer service mentality here that remains through the change. Servers and managers were chipper and readily available. I mentioned the bar area, and I was also quite content with the menu cocktails and their prices. Nearly every one of the drinks were $11 or $12, which compared to nearly any other restaurant is at least $5 cheaper on average. Good value and taste here to do a little happy hour or start the weekend off. The food is nice too, there's a balance of fried seafood critters and more elegant panseared fishies. I got the shrimp po' boy to get a feel for how well they do the basics, and they came out with a thumbs up for me. Fresh veggies, plump shrimps, and some nice sauces made this a winner. The apps hit the notes they're aiming for and like the rest of the menu I think the quality and amount of food you get is fair value. Our first visit here. Parking is convenient. And security roams around so that's nice. We had reservations but most people seem to be walk-ins. When the hostess was seating us, I asked for one of the MANY open booths. She said those are for bigger parties. We were seated at a table. Being dry January, we ordered a mocktail (they offered 2). Restaurants are missing dry January sales. We ordered apps and mains. Our server did not share the specials with us. We overheard neighboring server telling his table and wished our server had shared w us. Our apps and mains were mostly great. The crab cake was FULL of shards of shell. Full. I wouldn't recommend it bc it was in every bite. Service was okay. Took forever to get refills on our waters. But food came out of kitchen quickly. We ordered 3x desserts to bring home to enjoy. Haven't tried them yet. As we were leaving, we passed 4 booths that had parties of 2. Not sure why the hostess wouldn't seat us in one , especially since we had reservations. Perfection perfection!!!! Oh my, we came here for a little appetizer and we basically had a meal. The mixed seafood Campechana filled us like we had a full blown meal. This is very unusual for a nice seafood spot so I was quite surprised with their portion sizes. We had some friends that joined us and they had the fried seafood plate and the Shrimp Ettouffe. Both were ginormous. So come hungry!!!. I was surprised that it was quite quiet on a Saturday night. So the atmosphere was mild. The inside is large so it can fit large parties of people if you're looking for a roomy restaurant . The wait staff were all very responsive and nice. The sweet spot for me is that they sold a proper Gibson. It's rare to see this on a cocktail menu and you kind of just have to know what it is, so I had to try it. It was made with pure perfection. Goode Company is a Houston classic no matter what location or style of restaurant you go to, and this one lives up to the reputation. This location was the second time I've visited Goode Company Seafood; it's nicer than the location off Westpark, but maybe that's just because I don't "get" the whole rail car built into the restaurant aesthetic? Service is always spectacular. You can tell the waiters take pride in what they do, describing dishes, answering questions, checking on you regularly, and making sure you feel like a valued guest. I don't think this qualifies as five star dining, but the staff really makes you feel like it is. You can't go wrong with the catfish or shrimp here, regardless of how you get it cooked. I've tried the catfish both mesquite grilled and fried, and both times it came out tasting as fresh as if they'd caught it the same day, cooked to perfection. I wonder if they have connections in Galveston bringing fresh fish to the store daily? The only reason I'm not giving them five stars is that their pricing has gotten pretty lofty, and that was even before recent inflation took the price of everything to ridiculous levels. You'll easily spend more here than at a number of other seafood restaurants in town, but in most cases, it's well worth it. read more

My wife, daughter and I dropped in for dinner. It had been a few months. The atmosphere was the same and perhaps more lively given it was Friday. We started with a half dozen each of raw and grilled oysters. The raw arrived first and were great. I love their mignonette and jalapeño (?) relish. The grilled were nice as well but I wanted more butter to dip my garlic bread into. The crab, corn, poblano bisque is excellent and I used more of the bread to get every last drop of the bisque out of the cup. Our daughter had a nice crab cake appetizer for her entree. My wife and I had the mesquite grilled red snapper. This is always my Go To when dining here. Top it all off with a nice Sauvignon Blanc and I'm good. Let's talk about the service though. Our server was friendly and attentive but not overly so. In a good way. However, there was a moment when my wife wanted some hot sauce so I went to the bar to ask because our server was slammed during dinner service. That's when I met JC. He quickly pulled some hot sauce out and could have just handed it to me. Instead, he took the cap off and using a clean beverage napkin wiped the cap and grooves of the interior closure where we all know things can build up and cake. After cleaning something I didn't even think about, he politely handed it to me and said "Enjoy your dinner." This is why I'm writing this review and why I keep coming back to Goode Company Seafood. Ambiance is very cool, nicely decor as a boat for a seafood restaurant from inside to exterior seating to the bar area. Convenient location as it is right next to Memorial hospital. Service was rather slow, even when not many customers for a Friday late afternoon. My second server was quite a friendly older gentleman - he actually checked up on my food, wipe down my table and gave me coasters for my drinks WITHOUT ME ASKING unlike the random, awkward manager and host at the front. Food was delicious. I highly recommend getting their chilled seafood tower so you can try many of their appetizers during happy hour! I was hesitate to get raw oysters as it's not oyster season anymore but glad I did. I'm usually not a fan of raw gulf oysters but this time, it's still sweet. Campechana is extremely refreshing so get that if you don't want to get an entire seafood tower. Plus, it's filling. Redfish on half shell was also delicious, even as leftover. Don't forget to add charred lemon caper with jumbo lump crab on top, it's worth it in my opinion. I had to ask for their happy hour menu. I was told by their manager that happy hour menu are just for the bar but he made an exception for me. However, when another lady came by to dine in, her server didn't hesitate and didn't give this whole lecture of not sitting at the bar. Perhaps due to her getting alcohol beverages. Nevertheless, don't be afraid to ask for their happy hour menu. Overall not bad and I would come again if I'm craving seafood. It's a pretty laid back atmosphere so no need to dress up but also proper attire (no booty shorts, etc but sandals/flip flops are okay). Too bad the host didn't communicate with the first server so I was just sitting there, waiting to be waited on for my first time dining experience. I almost got up to leave if no one notice me. Came here for a Sunday lunch in a party of 18 after a family funeral. Service was excellent, ambience is beyond nice, but with so many relatives around me I could hardly touch my fork with so many new conversations. So I came back the next day so I could actually taste the food. Lunch at the raw bar was much more pleasant and simple: a half dozen oysters, a bowl of seafood gumbo and a glass of rose. Living in California now I miss the big plump Gulf oysters they have, and they serve them just right. The Seafood (shrimp and crab) Gumbo is the real deal (I know gumbo, I went to LSU). Loaded with crab, a few shrimp on top and not too much rice, A few dashes of Tobasco and it was excellent. A good California Rose paired very well. And when I looked up, I noticed everybody sitting at the raw bar had a bowl of gumbo in front of them. The next time I'm visiting family, I'll be back! read more
