My co-worker and I were looking for a quick but good - not fast food - dinner, so I looked on Yelp to see what was nearby. Mambo's was just down the road and looked interesting. I had a to-go order of calmari from this establishment on yesterday. I sat down at my desk to eat it. Once I took it out of the bag, it smelled like an unclean woman. My dish needed a douche. The whole office was disgusted by the smell. I was very hungry. Despite the stench, I bit one of the pieces of calamari. It was ridiculously rubbery. I couldn't even keep it in my mouth. I had to spit it out. To avoid stinking up the breakroom, I placed it in the refrigerator. I was going to take it back but things got so busy at work, I didn't have the opportunity. I called the establishment today to let them know how bad my experience was. The manager was very defensive and unapologetic. I had no reason to lie about my experience. I don't need a free meal. I wanted compensation for the meal I was unable to eat. I used to love this place, but I will never go back again. I do not appreciate how I was treated. I wish I had gotten the managers name so that I could put it in this review, but oh well! read more

This place is awesome! The food has so much flavor and you can't go wrong with the sampler (probably either, but we got the Cuban sampler). A lot of food no matter what you order though. Ok, I like to order fish. Not the place to do so, unless you like Basa. The fish is mislabeled and it has to be obvious to the owners-- to anyone that eats fish and cooks fish. So if you want sea bass or grouper, you will actually be getting Basa, a farm raised fish in the catfish family. It's tasty, but it ain't sea bass or grouper! read more

New location is awful. Hard to find tucked behind a Lowe's in a nondescript plaza, but the place was packed for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. My wife had the Churrasco, which is the best thing on the menu. I had the Palomilla Cuban steak. Not too bad, but a little dry. I ordered mine medium, but I would recommend medium-rare on their steaks, as the cuts are very thin. Also, the garlic bread and spicy tomatillo salsa that they serve while you're waiting is delicious. Plantain, saffron rice and frijoles negros were tasty as well. Have been a fan of Mambos for years now and really like the new location. The palomilla steak and their ceviche are excellent.

This was my third visit to Mambo Cafe. My first two visits was for take-out, and the most recent visit was dine-in. I have tried the Arroz Chaufa de Pollo o Carne. The taste of this dish was like charbroiled stir-fried rice with chicken and scallions and splash of soy sauce. The charbroiled taste to me over powered this dish. Dish came with side order of fried plantains, which were the best I've ever tasted. I wouldn't order this dish again, but worth the try. The Churrasco (Skirt Steak grilled) was Delicious! This dish is seasoned to perfection. I have ordered this dish dine-in and take-out and the results have been the same.... Yummy! read more

I love the food here, they do great Peruvian plates and also cuban food. People try the empanadas and Arroz con Pollo. So far the best in town. Last time I was there I order limo salteado and it was delicious. Tacutacu I think is the name it is out of this world. read more

Poorest customer service ever!!! Our waitress failed to put our order in, I had to ask for my wine twice, napkins twice and when she brought them, she brought three napkins!! I waiting 50 minutes for my food when it came it was the WRONG meal!!! The waitress actually tried to convince me the sea bass was red snapper. After I complained to her he manager he said he check on my food and come right out... never seen him again!!! And after that, I hadn't seen my waitress again either!! The guy from the bar brought my food after another 10-15 minutes! I asked them to just pack it to go. It took another 30 minutes to get out bull and check out. We are regulars at several establishments in the area. We tried a new place because our regular waiter is off tonight at our regular spot. Mambos could have had another regular customer... however, they failed us miserably!! Don't chance ruining your evening by coming here! Great food but TRASH customer service!! read more

Got last minute reservations here for Valentine's Day. Hubby and I both ordered the special, Churassco Steak and Shrimp. The steak was cooked beautifully (medium rare, as ordered) and the shrimp and a nice light char taste. The saffron rice was light and flavorful and the fried sweet plantains were the best I've had. The service was friendly and the prices were very reasonable. Our plates were $19.99/ea. Would recommend this place for a casual dinner with friends. read more

Incredible food - never had anything on the menu that I didn't enjoy. Recommend the chicken Alfredo, ravioli appetizer, or gnocchi. Ladies night on Thursday is always a great deal w/ half price apps and cocktails. Don't miss the dessert counter too - it is heaven haha. New Location! I'm rating it 3 stars because I hope/feel they have room for improvement. I wrote my review about this place when it was located on Haynes Bridge about 2 years ago...Today's visit left me very disappointed however. I was excited that they had relocated to Windward which is closer to home and from my very first visit, it was the closest to good Cuban food in Miami that I had tasted here in GA. Postives: Better visual location than they had on Haynes Bridge, greater lunch crowd than previous location, full bar (before only served beer and wine), and much more upscale than previous location. Negatives: They are not yet prepared to handle the Alpharetta lunch crowd. There is only one bus boy, the hostest busses tables as well as the waiters and there is a lack of communication between the kitchen and front staff. Today's visit... my daughter and I chose to have lunch here around 12:30 pm. (We'd been on the look out for the OPEN sign which had been a week ago). I was excited to see how many cars were in the parking lot and expected a wait. We arrived at the door at the same time with another family. Being only two of us we allowed the other family to be seated first. After 15 minutes we were seated at the table near the door. The hostess sat us and asked what we would like to drink. She promptly brought our drinks. The waiters seemed confused on which tables they were working, but we placed our order for two Miami sandwhiches w/o tomatoes on both. After another 15 minutes we received bread from the bus boy (I had completely forgotten about this, but my daughter asked "aren't we supposed to get bread?" great memory!). After another 15 minutes, our waiter who I won't name came to ask if we wanted more bread, I declined by inquired about our food. He apologize for the wait and offer us additional bread (which is served with a spicy green dipping sauce-highlight of my meal). I declined again, but thanked him for the update. We (she being extremly observant) noticed that two tables seated after us had received their food and we still had not been served. I waited a bit longer and went to ask the hostess to check on our food, told her we had been waiting and she stated "I know". Another five minutes later, our waiter came back around to state that it was crazy in the kitchen and that our food should be out shortly. So almost an hour after we'd been there, the hostess delivers my plate and says she'll be right back wtih my daughter's. The manager delivers her plate. The sandwiches contained tomatoes on both (glad we didn't have a food allergy) and were warm, not hot. I complain to him and he extends his apologies and says it's his first week here and trying to get the kitchen together. He offers us a dessert, but I decline right now because we just got our meal. I have to pull our waiter aside to ask for napkins, he checks on us later and I ask what happened. He states he has no control over the kitchen and that my ticket was lost. I ask isn't his job to track my ticket and he says that he can only yell out to the kitchen on his orders. I stop him again to ask for a box and the check. I'm billed the full amount...no discount??? This completely frustrated me, not only did the manager not come back over to check on us, but they did not compensate for the inconvenience. I really hope Mambo's Cafe can get it together and make this a successful restaurant. After all, they are now competing with Mambo Jambo down this street which in my opinion is over-priced and under seasoned We do love their yuca fries though. Mambo's Cafe can be a great restaurant by prepping their staff to handle the Monday through Friday lunch crowd (increase your staff) as well as communication between the waiters and kitchen. A ticket should never be lost and if it was, the waiter should know exactly what their customer ordered. If not, empower them to verify with the customer. A server should know that no customer should ever wait over 30 minutes for their order especially when customers they've waited on after them received their food first. I hope to try Mambo's again later in the future. For now, I'll wait until they work out the kinks... read more

I was hungry as I wasn't able to eat any lunch today but at the same time I didn't have cravings for anything in particular. I read several of the Yelp reviews and decided to visit Mambo's Cafe. The atmosphere was really casual and open. The music in the background was soothing and not loud at all. I was immediately greeted and seated. Within a minute, my waitress Victoria approached the table and greeted me right away. After serving me the ice tea I asked for, I gave her my entree order. After taking my order, she informed me that bread will be served to me within a minute. She also informed me that the dipping sauce that will be served with the bread was hot as it was made with jalapeno and habanero peppers. OMG...it was awesome!! The entree I ordered was the Chilindron de Cordero - Lamb shank cooked in creole sauce. I added a picture of it! The presentation and seasonings were right on point. Victoria checked on me a couple of times to make sure everything was OK. At the end of the dinner, I paid for my meal with a credit card. She handed me the receipts for my signature and thanked me and used my name and said it was a pleasure serving me. It's the little things (in addition to the great food) that added to a wonderful dining experience. read more

Their Peruvian Ceviche was very good and so was their Choritos a la Chalaca. These are combinations of seafood with sharp citric lime juice. Do not let the foreign (different) presentation of the food shy away from the exquisite test that the cuisine offers. Not all Ceviches are the same. Peruvian Ceviche are completely a different dish than the Mexican Ceviche. Their service was good too. The friendly waitress made the whole experience worth the trip. This is one of our favorite places in Alpharetta. The staff is helpful and friendly, and the food is very unique and flavorful. We just love the Mambo Grill with one of their very reasonable Tempranillos. This was my first experience with Cuban good with my husband. The Food? Excellent. Beware of the green sauce that's delivered with the bread -- it's spicy, but its soo good.The paella takes a while but it's well worth the wait (except for the clams, they tasted funny). The service? Not so great. We maybe saw our waitress twice in the hour plus we were there. So that could improve. But we will def be back. read more

Mixed feelings with this place... The food is very good: I love the Lomo saltado and the black beans are delicious. My husband tried some of the fish dishes and he always likes it. The big problem with this place is the service... We've been there many times and only once we had a good service. In general the waiter or waitress takes a long time to come and help us, usually they don't seem happy as well and they are always distracted talking to each other near the bar and looking at their phones... I'm not much of a complainer about service, but this place has the most distracted waiters I've seen... I keep going because I like the food, but they really should improve that aspect. read more
