My boyfriend and I went to Mambos last night around 8pm (Wednesday) As we were walking in the waitress said Oh we were just closing but come on in!! I asked her a few times - are you sure ? really we can go somewhere else... but she insisted we stay. I could tell they were aching to go but the waitress was very friendly and didn't rush us out. The food was excellent. I had the garlic shrimp and my boyfriend had the shredded beef. My rice was a little dry but his looked good. The plantains were EXCELLENT. I also ordered empanadilla's but didn't realize until we left that I didn't get them. I also don't know if I got charged for them. They were 2.25 so I can let it slip if I did. So I came to So-Cal for the weekend with some friends and we went to this place. it wa YUMMMY. The beans were so flavorful and the pork I ordered was really tender. Everyone loved their food especially the beans and plantains. The only couple things that kept me from giving this place 5 stars is that we ordered these potatoes balls and they never came, and it was kinda dark lighting. The good: - nicely decorated - friendly service - Charizo sausage was good - Salsa w/ bread - the salsa was good. the not bad but not great - The flavor was meh. - the prices were kinda high I thought for lunch (party of 3 for$55?) - the location - kinda of in the middle of no where.. for me anyway. I really enjoy this place. I would've rated it higher but sometimes, and it has only happened a few, but they are kinda slow. The food is great. I really like the spicy sauce that comes with the bread right when you sit down. I enjoy Mambo's Cuban Sandwich better than Porto's. The bread is nice and flaky, the pork is tender, the ham is sweet. The maduros are amazing!! The place does get very very busy during lunch. I do agree sometimes they are slow, but you sorta over look it unless you are on a time limit for lunch. I hardly ever see the wait staff not doing something. It's a hit or miss when i go. Oh and parking is really difficult when it gets busy. I've heard people park two blocks away. I love the decor. After watching DD&M, and being disappointed a few times with his so-called great places to eat, I was a bit hesitant about trying this place out. For once, he didn't disappoint! Bf and I went on Saturday night, we started off with the bread and salsa, got two empanadas, and I got their Mumbo chicken, and bf got the breaded chicken. The bread and salsa, wow, delish!! I was wanting to take that sucker home and pour it on all different types of dishes. The salsa is a bit spicy, but the bread absorbs it well. Yummm Empanadas were good, super hot, but we've had better, I think. Our main course was good, my chicken was good, but like many reviewers, it was a bit dry. However, bf's breaded chicken was super moist and juicy. Loved the rice and beans. I didn't get the bad service like many yelpers, it was in fact, great. Came here for lunch on a Tuesday, the parking lot is small so you may need to park down the street but the walk is worth it. I ordered the breaded steak and even on a busy day our came out fast. The entree came with bread and red sauce, mix the beans, rice, and red sauce. The breaded steak was very good and was not dry at all. Just go in. Mambo's can look closed from the outside when it's happening inside. Friendly, clean, delicious dining. Enjoy a great Caribbean meal without a passport. And it's real, traditional Cuban, not California Cuban -- that often confuses Mexican and Salvadoran dishes with Cuban ones or adds California touches like micro greens, that you would not likely find in a Cuban abuela's kitchen. Tasty food. I ordered the Mambo chicken and it was good. Kind of similar to Versailles but definitely unique. Apparently this place has been showcased on Food Network. I ordered the chicken, beans and rice with some Materva (refreshing). Plenty of leftovers to doggy-bag for dinner.. My cohorts ordered sandwiches and they looked really good. When I asked what they thought 1 said it was better than Porto's and the other said Porto's was better. Parking is not great and the streets around there fill up quickly as well. The fresh bread and blended salsa is good and is their version of chips and salsa. Taking someone on a first date to a restaurant you've never been to is a huge gamble, but thankfully this one paid off. The waitress and all servers were very friendly and attentive to our needs, but in no way imposing on us. It was a very relaxed yet intimate environment with atmospheric candles on every table. Basically the restaurant set the stage for a great evening without being expensive at all. The food was delicious, though I'm not really lucky about anything. I got the specialty chicken which was perfectly cooked to the point that it almost melted in my mouth which was awesome. Also I haven't had yuca since I was in south America 5 years ago, so getting that was a treat. Needless to say, I can't recommend this place enough, especially if you want to set the mood for a no pressure evening on a first date. read more

Had lunch here for the first time last Thursday. It was packed and so was the parking lot, use street parking. I ordered the Roasted Chicken with black beans, rice and plantains. I wish the chicken was a just a little juicer but the BB, rice and plantains were spot on. Best plantains I've ever had (sorry nina :/ .) Before moving to Paso Robles, we lived in LA and boarded horses at LAEC down the street from Mambo's. Excellent cuban food served by a very friendly family. We return every time we show at LAEC or are in LA for other reasons. Absolutely DELICIOUS Ropa Vieja with white rice, black beans and plantains. This is definitely now my go-to cuban restaurant. We were a little thrown off by a couple of the staff that didnt seem to be knowledgeable enough on the menu (or cuban cuisine) but we got our food right and the place had a great vibe. Been around since 1988 and was featured on Food Networks Diners, Drive Ins and Dives! It has an old cuban feel with a jazz edge. Would definitely return! read more

We love Mambos. Mambos is more than a restaurant, it's a family. It captures the expatriate Cuban experience. The jazz performances, when they are able, are really, really good talented musicians. Food is good, prices are great. Makes me feel like I'm in Florida. Nothing super fancy, but down to earth family place that's good for couples too. Back in December my wife and I ordered food to go, we picked it up and got home and it was wrong so I called and expressed that it was wrong so they said come back They made us new food but burned it I again talked to the manager who then cussed me out saying a bunch of bad words and said I don't know anything. So I drove there to show the guy he grabbed the plate of food and smashed it in his hand like a crazy person and then threw it at me and then got in my face like he was going to beat me up. In my life I have never ever been in that kind of situation before. I was truly scared. The guy is lucky I did not call the cops on him. I will never eat here I called the next day and talked to the owner who said he would get back to me who never did. They were all very unprofessional no one should ever attack a customer Verbalee or aggressively. I would give it negative stars if I could read more
