Checked Mami Monchita's out for lunch today. First thoughts were good, the decor was really nice and clean, wait staff were engaging and courteous. I chose the enchiladas for lunch and had one chicken and one ground beef. Of the 2 the ground beef was much more flavorful, the chicken was good just didn't pack the flavor that the beef did. Lunch was good not great, but it made me curious enough to want to go back for dinner and see if their portions are more. That is really the only issue I had with the lunch, it was two enchiladas and that was it, no sides or anything. I would have liked some beans, or rice, or chips or something more. I am a big fella and when I go to a sit down place for lunch I like to get full. It was good, just not filling, I hope that dinner will be different when I make it back. read more

Had dinner for the first time tonight at this new restaurant. Of the 8 items my Hubs & I shared, here are our thoughts: -Jalapeño Shrimp = A -Red Beans & Rice = B -Nacatamale = B -Taco de Pollo = C -Pupusa = C -Beef Pastilino=C minus -Flan = F-minus minus - an epic Flan Fail !!! -Cafe con Leche = A All of the 'C' items are fried & arrived at the table warm & oily. The Nacatamale filling is pulled pork & the piece in mine came from a joint. I knew this because the gooey, gelatinous mass that once was the cartilage was featured prominently... the pupusa was tasty, but texture was dense & tough. And don't even make me talk about the flan! A decent flan should separate (like any good custard) under gentle pressure from the spoon, cleanly, as if cut by a hot knife, with no effort. This was served cold from frig (another sin) and so over cooked it was rubbery. I REALLY wanted to love it, and I'll go back to try different items, but so far I'm not feeling the love... They're going to have to step up their game to keep the crowds coming in once the new wears off. read more

As my 11 year old son says "This food is the Bomb"! Went for lunch today. My son got the Tacos de Pollo. He was hesitant to try them because they aren't your usual tacos, more like giant taquitos. But when he did, he was sold! Loved them! I got the pupusas with a side of Yuca Fritas and was not disappointed! Topped with shredded cabbage tastiness, it was very good! Paired with fresh coconut water and it was a great meal! We will definitely be coming back! read more

We try to eat at Miami's regularly, and have been going there for over two years. Love to take friends there for a change. We enjoy the family appetizer platter and share all the selections. The flavors and variations of tamales, tacos, and similar "Mexican" foods are a pleasant change. The food is always fresh and delicious. Lunch specials are a good deal. We've tried many dishes and have enjoyed everything. The Horchata Drink and Coconut Lemonade is a treat. Not too sweet and will become a new favorite. I didn't care for the the Honduran coffee. But if you like Turkish coffee you may. It's thick, sweet and strong! Try the plantains as chips. Fantastic. The guacamole is a pleasant change as is the ceviche. Miami's supports an orphanage in Honduras and they are very mission and community minded. Delightful servers and waitstaff. Family owned and named after their Mom. read more

My wife and I ate dinner here tonight. A lot of our reason for trying this restaurant was because of the reviews that we read on here. I am not sure how people felt that it was worthy of all of those accolades. Of the many things we tried there was only a couple that were what I would call excellent. The jalapeño shrimp was excellent. The red beans were excellent. The plantains were wonderful. All fried foods were oily and not really served hot. All of that being said: I'll probably go back. I still want to try the soup and the elote. Maybe it was just new restaurant jitters. We'll see. read more

This is an update to my previous review: Went to Mami Monchitas for dinner, this being probably my 4th visit. The food just wasn't as good as it has been previously. The cabbage wasn't crisp and fresh like it has been in the past. There were also fruit flies or gnats buzzing the table, and we noticed fruit fly traps sitting in the windows. I've also noticed the last couple of visits, there are usually people just hanging out in a booth or two that don't appear to be patrons. Friends or family of the owner maybe? The service was still great, but it just wasn't the top notch experience we've had. I will probably move on and try to find a new favorite in the area. read more

Husband and I went here randomly while looking for a lunch spot before heading to Cove Spring Park. Wow it's good. So good in fact that it's our new favorite restaurant in Frankfort. The pork carnitas were tender, flavorful and perfectly seasoned. The sweet plantains were so delicious. Everything was 10/10 with friendly and quick service too. Just driving through Kentucky and a Yelp search found this place. We never had Honduran food so decided to stop. We are so glad we did. The beef enchiladas were a hefty portion and full of great flavor. The cheese pupusas were better then a quesadilla. The sweet plantains were carmelized to perfection. I'd give six stars if they were available!!! We'd never had Honduran food, and our server was very helpful with suggestions for things to try. I have a sensitivity to cilantro, so she made sure to steer me clear of items where it could not be left off. We started with Anafres - really delicious bean/cheese/chorizo combination, and nice hearty chips that didn't fall apart when loaded with the dip. DH had pupusas mixtas for his main - really delicious with fabulous cabbage salad on the side. I couldn't try the cabbage, but he rated it a big thumbs up. I chose Yuca con Chicharron, and OMG the criolla sauce will make you weep! Absolutely delicious. The combination of the super crispy chicharrones with the fried yuca and the sauce was just perfect. Dessert time - flan (FAB) and the most delicious tres leches I've ever eaten. I highly recommend Mami Monchita's if you're anywhere near Frankfort. You will be neither disappointed nor hungry after your visit! read more

The fish tacos were great, enchiladas were flavorful, and my bean obsessed toddler loved the red beans. They always seem to be really busy so I bet there other items are pretty great too. I love this place! My husband and I seeked out a different type of restaurant on our visit to Frankfort. Thanks to Yelp reviews, we found what we needed at Mami Monchita's. The family-owned restaurant has home-cooked style Honduran food, which was a nice alternative to Mexican. Everything was freshly made, from the guacamole to the juice cocktails to the main dishes. My husband had Jalapeño Shrimp with a nice bite (and then spiced it up with hotter sauce) and I had the chicken dish with marinated chunks of chicken sautéed with peppers and onions. Don't miss the flan and Honduras coffee (or Cafe con Leche) for dessert. The owner is friendly and greets customers personally. We were glad to be part of the family even if it was just for one evening. read more

This is my absolute favorite restaurant. The food is amazing. Very fresh, all homemade food. The restaurant is in honor of the owners mom (Mami) and the food is all food she cooked for her family. Today was my second time trying Mami Monchita's and I was again very impressed! I got the shredded chicken sandwich and it was very delicious! I wish I would of taken a photo of my plate because the presentation was very good. I substituted sweet plantains for the fries and I am glad I did! They were a nice sweet ending to a full hearty sandwich. Our server was Arturo and he was very knowledgeable and attentive. This place rocks my socks off. If you haven't had this style of food- do not fear it. Embrace it. I found it to be similar to Mexican, but with plantains for chips, and guacamole for salsa. I got an awesome chicken dish that came with super fluffy, delicious and FRIED PLANTAINS. Have you had a fried plantain?? Well, they have an amazing Caramelized texture on the outside and a sweet, warm, soft inside. Seriously. My mouth is still watering. I would highly recommend adding them to your meal, if it doesn't come with them!! They are reasonably priced and quick for lunch!! They are located behind a a fast food place and across from a small strip mall. You will think you are heading for residential frankfort. Bring a friend so you can sample a few different meals. This is a fun interesting place. We were there on Friday evening and they had live music, the Pupisa's and guacamole &chips. These were amazing! We ordered the entrees and they looked amazing. I asked for a recommendation from the waitress between a couple chicken dishes. The Pollo con Tajadas or the Revuelto Hondureno. She recommended the first one. Bad bad mistake!!!!! The dish looked crazy good. However the chicken on it was trash! I got two fried chicken backs and a broken chicken leg. These were horrible! Bone fragments were all in each piece of chicken. The cabbage and sauces were very good. The fried green bananas were to die for. Plantains were cooked just right. So, I do not recommend this dish at all. The other entrees were really good. 1- fish tacos the other was jalapeño shrimp with white wine sauce which was very spicy hot. So, in closing. Great place, would recommend but with caution. Be sure to avoid chicken backs and bones. read more

The food here is fabulous. So is the service. I recommend the ceviche with plantain chips. The lunch plate of pork carnitas with rice and a side of your choice is a good buy at $7.99. I chose plantains just cause I love them. My husband chose a Honduran cabbage salad. My husband ate every morsel. I couldn't eat all that food. I had been to the restaurant initially about 3 years ago, and I got the yuca con carne which was good went with a group of friends and one of them got food poisoning. I recently went up this weekend with my partner to give it another try and was disappointed. I am from Honduras so I was expecting exceptional Honduran food and it saying it is Frankforts top voted restaurant I expected nothing less. I ordered las papas de feria, tacos de poll (tacos dorados) and pollo frito con tajadas. The traditional tomato sauce was sweet instead of a little acidic. Also the shredded chicken in the tacos dorados was bland as well with not type of seasoning. I have tried better ones and make better tacos dorados then this place does. The same happened with the pollo frito con tajadas sauce was very sweet and chicken bland no seasoning. The only thing I enjoyed was the papas de feria and that isn't saying much since it's just french fries with sauce on top. The service wasn't that great either our server would forget to come and ask if we were doing okay. Oh I forgot to mention we also order two baladeas as well which were very bland as well we got them filled with beans, mantequilla (sour cream), and shredded cheese. It is not an authentic Honduran restaurant. I will say it is like going to el nopal or a tex-mex type of feel restaurant. Very disappointing definitely won't be going back. read more
