So my wife and I decided to have dinner at Mam Rosa in Somers. We've been there many times. The food is always consistently delicious. Stated off with a Caesar Salad which was outstanding. My wife had Veal Marsala, which was so tender, she just used her fork to cut it. I had Veal Parmigiana which also was delicious. The portions are huge. just got home from "dinner" here with family. i say dinner loosely because i did not get to eat anything aside from half of my side of vegetables (gave the other half to my partner because his were missing from his plate for some reason??) we were a party of 8 including two children and all ordered the pre fixe which is priced dependent on chosen entree; included app, coffee and dessert. all things considered the dishes were bland and mediocre. my partners fried calamari was fine just under seasoned. any other seafood that made it to the table was inedible and considering four dishes went uneaten and we declined to wrap them to take home you would have thought that they would have asked if something was wrong but they probably didn't want to assume responsibility or have to replace or comp anything. 3 of us including myself started with the baked clams which we all noticed to be prepared in a way that was untraditional at best. we didn't necessarily mind that so much as the clams being noticeably... old. my sil gave up after one, i tried three and spat them all out. this should have been a sign for me to change my entree (which had already been ordered) but it did not occur to me as i assumed it may have just been a shellfish issue but my sea bass entree was just as much if not even more so fishy. my partner offered me a bite of his chicken francese which was pretty bland but edible which seems to be the bar here. this really wasn't an issue of preference or taste as we did not mind that meals we expected to be served as described did not come that way, it was being served seafood that had obviously past its point of being fresh and safe to consume and i truly believe if i had tried to tough it out and take a few more bites id have been physically ill. as it is i have felt quite sick since leaving the restaurant about an hour and a half ago and will have to prepare myself dinner at some point tonight after having paid over $500 for nearly half the food on the table to go uneaten. tiramisu and almond cake were okay, did not care for the chocolate cake. servers inattentive, had to be flagged down for drinks and seemed to purposefully avoid those of us who didn't touch our food rather than check on us. good and apologetic service could have absolutely turned the night around but they chose to avoid the issue entirely instead which was really disappointing. read more

I have to give this restaurant a solid 4. I attended a repose luncheon recently and the food was tasty and hearty. Delicious thick sliced italian bread along with EVOO on the tables. The servers got our meals out hot and were available to refill water, bus the tables, etc. I find typically restaurants who have catering options that they aren't always good even though the restaurant ala carte meals are good. Not the case for them. We all had a nice mixed salad with penne vodka and options were eggplant rollatini , chicken parmigiana or sole francese. The sole was delicious. The batter stayed on and there was NO fish smell at all. All three options were served with a few roasted potatoes, sautéed string beans and carrots. We were there to celebrate a long life well lived and he would have been happy we al gathered and enjoyed this meal for him. read more

Had dinner here on Saturday night. Bread was bought to the table, the bread was hard as a rock and extremely dry. The bread could break you teeth that's hard it was we couldn't eat it. I ordered off the specials menu, and started with the crab cake appetizer. I was served two nice sized cakes, and thought oh wow what a nice generous portion. To my dismay I took a bite and what was described as crab cakes were actually mushy potato pancakes. There wasn't an iota of crab ANYWHERE in those cakes. There were four of us dining and one of my relatives also ordered the crab cakes and agreed they weren't crab cakes at all. I also ordered the sole francaise special, again the portion was very nice, bit the fish had no flavor. A little dash of salt goes a long way, it needed it. The waiter was very nice and attentive, the restaurant's ambiance is very nice but the food we ate was subpar. When I got the bill let's just say it chapped my ass to be charged $45.00 for the two order of crab cakes that had NO crab in them. Never Again. We would have been better off eating at the Olive Garden - and I don't do the Olive Garden. read more

Wonderful meal! First time there. Started off with the clams oreganato. They were garlicky and delicious. For an entrée, I got calamari marinara. Never had such tender calamari in my life! My husband got chicken in a creamy brandy sauce with peas. He said it was exceptional. Portions were large, and the pasta on the side was very good also. Good tomato sauce. Our bloody Mary's were strong, spicy, and perfect. We were too full for dessert! Can't wait to go back there again. read more

My meal consisted of clams oreganata and veal parm., my wife had minestrone soup and chicken marsala and then cheese cake. The food was superb. The service was also excellent without being overbearing. The staff didn't bring out the main course until the appetizers were finished; this the way service should be! Similarly, the dessert wasn't presented until we were ready. Although the check was prepared, it was not brought to me until I asked for it. The was no pressure to leave after all was eaten. Finally, there was live music to make the meal that much more pleasant. The layout was such that there was more than adequate room between tables. We will definitely be going back. read more

Very pleased. Second time here. The first was many many years ago and i recall being satisfied then too. My youngest daughter and I came here very late on a Wednesday night and they couldnt be more accomodating. We ordered the oysters which were a special and they were excellent. My daughter ordered the pear salad and she asked for gilled chicken on it. No problem! I ordered the cavettelli with broccolli rabe and asked to switch the sausage to shrimp. Again, no problem! Their pizza is a 10!!!! Thin, crispy and tasty. Sauce is delicious, light and enough sauce that compliments the stringy morrezela. Remembering the days when you take that crispy bit and get the real cheese that pulls and melts into your mouth. Haven't tried anything else, but definitely coming back for more. read more

Overpriced. $17.95 for penne ala vodka - seriously? NYC prices on Route 100 in Somers, crazy. I had the risotto seafood medley. Mushy, bland and semi-in edible. The consistency of play-doh and I think they used uncle bens white rice. Wtf. I should know better than to order risotto on an untested/first time visit. Others in my group enjoyed their meal. The service was excellent. The vibe pleasant and the bar had seating for approximately 12, so you can comfortably enjoy a cocktail if you have to wait for your table. I don't know why but there was a tv playing in the background of the main dining area. Very distracting. HGTV, they decided to stay in their current home instead of moving. Lol. read more

Looked like a nice place walked in greeted nicely.... sat down at the bar and asked for a menu and was ignored, asked for balsamic, and was ignored. I was at this hidden gem for a rehearsal dinner for my cousin wedding the next day. 7/2/18. I would recommend this restaurant. The service was very good, Im sorry outstanding!!!!! Our waiter's were warm and friendly its almost felt like a family. The entire staff very personable and very efficient to all our needs. Our food was excellent!!! The restaurant itself is warm and cozy. The decor was perfect for a Italian restaurant. The fresh mozzarella and tomatos was a perfect start to my meal. I had the Clams Oreganato and they were delicious, followed by Chicken Mama Rosa, which featured chicken, potatoes and mushrooms in a light brown sauce; delicious as well! Every time I eat here, i am impressed! The food is the best Italian I've had since Davids' in mt kisco in the early 70's! No one compares!! The servers couldn't be nicer and they are happy to accommodate any requests. They want to make you happy!...and they do! Tonight i ordered to go, and it was excellent, with the same care as when I have eaten outside on their deck.... i have only discovered them since covid, but i feel very safe that they take covid concerns seriously. My first experience here was when I attended a lunch party for a communion celebration. We had a nice small room to ourselves which is off of the main dining room and bar area. It is all very nicely maintained, clean, classy looking. This was a sit-down lunch with an appetizer course, pasta course, main dish, and dessert. The appetizer plate was huge. Each person got their own plate with a nice slice of cantaloupe, prosciutto, cheese, olives, salami slices, some sort of marinated eggplant, etc. Everything was delicious. Next came a simple bowl of pasta with red sauce. Pasta was cooked well and the sauce was pretty good but nothing amazing. We had choices for main dish and I chose the veal which was served with prosciutto, mozzarella, in a marsala style sauce. It came with fresh vegetables and a starch that I cannot recall. The veal was delicious. Dessert was communion cake which I assume was brought in rather than made in-house just because of the size for the group. After this good experience I went back another night for regular dinner. It's as if I was returning to a different restaurant! We shared some Cesar salad around the table which was pretty good. Dinner entrees ordered- 2 people had the Fettuccine Alla Mama Rosa 2 people had the Fettuccine Carbonara (listed as spaghetti on the menu but you can have any pasta) 2 penne vodka 1 chicken parm The Fettuccine Alla Mama Rosa was completely tasteless. No amount of fresh Parmesan or pepper would bring it to life. Both people brought home almost their whole meal with the intent of adding a sauce with flavor for leftovers. The Fettuccine Carbonara was better though not by much. The Pancetta (nice touch) was almost raw as were the onions. There was almost no sauce of any kind. The Penne Vodka was OK but nothing exciting. Again, not a very flavorful sauce. Very bland. The chicken parm was good, but its pretty hard to mess that up. It is quite amazing how good the food was for the party and how bland and tasteless it was on my next return. There will not be a 3rd meal. On a side note, I believe we were seated and initially waited on by the owner or manager. He seemed friendly and warm at first but when we skipped appetizers (having had some at home earlier) and ordered just 1 overpriced bottle of wine for the table, he seemed annoyed, as if we should have ordered more. I am just after returning my take out food to this restaurant. The food was inedible-the pasta had little to no sauce on it, the bacon was under-cooked, the caesar salad was limp and had clearly been sitting in the sauce for a long time as the croutons were soggy. We ordered the stuffed artichoke on the recommendation of the waiter but it resembled dog food when we opened it. We had heard good things about this restaurant from our neighbors (we are new to the area) but we were very disappointed. I returned the food to the restaurant and was not treated well by your staff-the questioned how I could have found the food so bad, accused me of dropping the food (I returned it in the take out boxes), and challenged my request to get a refund.I eventually got a refund Please note that I do not intend to visit this restaurant ever again following this incident. I was looking forward to a nice meal on a friday night after work, but instead felt ill after tasting this food, am out of pocket over $47 and still hungry. read more

We were sitting with empty glasses for about 20 minutes before he came to see if we wanted another glass of wine. We waited 50 minutes for our dinner to come which I thought was particularly long. The Calamari Marinara was just OK. My husband had the Fish Special which he enjoyed. He also had the Clam Chowder which he said was delicious. This place has great food and expert service, a great combination for sure. Try any of the pasta dishes, particularly the linguine with clams and the penne vodka. From the entrees, we've had the chicken mama rosa, the calamari marinara, and the sole franchese, all wonderful. If your lucky, they'll have veal chops or osso bucco as specials, all very good.
