First of all, I love the atmosphere of the ghost town and the view from the restaurant is gorgeous. We were hot, tired and hungry at the end of our day so we stopped in for a bite to eat. The place was empty yet it took a long time for someone to take our order. We planned on getting a steak but the menu was very limited, my iced tea tasted old and the flies out numbered us 10-1. We were still starving so we ordered a green chili quesadilla to hold us over until we were home or found a better option. The server was friendly but very busy at the bar while we were in the dining area. It took a long time for our order to come out on a disposable styrofoam plate. The green chilies were obviously canned and overwhelmed the quesadilla. It took forever to get our check. Extra star for ambiance but we won't be back here to eat. read more

This was our first time going here, and we have ZERO complaints. The drinks were cold and delicious. I highly recommend getting the Prickly Pear Cactus Margarita, its really good. Our food was great, we had the 8oz New York strip and The grilled chicken breast. The steak was cooked to perfection and the chicken was the juiciest piece of chicken I've ever had. We then stopped by and grabbed some ice cream on the way back to the car and that was a very good experience. The bathrooms look like they haven't been cleaned since the 1800's and everything is broken, there is no air conditioning, flies are everywhere, and finding someone who works here is not easy. Well, it is REALLY nice to be able to get a cold beer and some food when you are in a Ghost Town...literally. I know this is supposed to mimic a Saloon atmosphere in the 1800's but really it was dirty and old. I wasn't to keen to order any food because there is no telling what the kitchen looks like but we were STARVING so I ordered fried food thinking it would be the safest thing to eat. My brother had seen a program that had Goldfield, so when he came to visit he wanted to try the steakhouse out. We went on a Sunday night, so of course it was dead, except for a few incredibly drunk regulars. The place looks kind of cool inside. Cowboy boots hanging from the ceiling, dead animal carcasses on the wall, old newspaper clippings lacquered into the tables, but that is where hte coolness stopped. My family was in town from CT this past weekend so we took them here for dinner Sun evening. First let me just say, I love the view from their deck. The Superstition Mtns are beautiful and this view is the best one of them IMO. It was a relatively nice night, so we sat outside. The live music was good but not so loud that we couldnt hear each other talking which is a feat. We had preordered chicken dinners w/ corn and beans as sides (note: ordering beans here means you get chili beans). The chicken was deliciously bbq-y and so so moist. This place was good. We went on a whim. We were driving by and decided to stop and try it. The Ghosttown was closed, but the steakhouse and saloon was open. The service was friendly. It was not very busy, so weren't sure if that was a good sign. Turns out - it's a good place! The environment is very kitschy - just as you would expect from an old west town. Boots, hats, mounted animals, wagon wheels, lanterns, etc. The menu is on an old newspaper. There is a limited variety, but something to appeal to most everyone who knowingly visits a Steakhouse and Saloon. The outdoor patio is a great place to host a large party on cool evenings, and the inside has 3 levels of seating. We were there on a live music night which was fun too! The food was decent. I'd give negative stars. There was no A/C!! In AZ mid-summer! And really awful food, and have a $2 charge for cutting your sandwhich in half for you! Plus drinks took forever to get to the table even though it was empty, then got hot fast because it was hotter than hell in there. For a tourist restaurant it's not horrible. They have loads of seating and service was good. Typical kids menu, but I was surprised by the kids portions. My 5 yr olds' hamburger was huge and my 8 yr old couldn't finish her chicken strips. Bloody Mary was sufficiently spicy. The tuna salad sandwich was decent, but served on white bread despite offering and asking for sourdough. The biggest complaint ...they only had three highchairs (or so the sever said). We were at our table a good 20 minutes before getting the highchair for our 2 yr old. If we were in a big city with me options, I would be more disappointed. Out and playing tourist last week and stopped in at the Mammoth Steakhouse in the Goldfield Ghost Town and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had! The place was really hopping and so much fun! The bartenders and waiters were friendly and the best! Very attentive to us and easy to talk to! The best thing about this restaurant is the view of the Superstition Mountain, which is incredible. Other than that, nothing to brag about. The menu is overpriced and the food is average. Drinks and beer are very expensive, they even charge $2.50 for a bottle of water (which most likely cost them about 2 cents). Tap water not available. The experience we had here was horrible. The waitress was nice, that is when she actually came to our table anyway. The food was WAY over priced and they automatically add gratuity to your check (at 20% no less). We had to wait for over an hour for our food to come and when it finally did the chicken was over cooked. AND they charge you 50 cents for a SMALL half full cup of ranch. I understand that it's a tourist town and the prices will be a little high but for the amount of money we pay for the food we should have the option to tip how we felt fit compared to the service that was provided. I guess you have to look at the entire activity of the entire venue, the old time city, the people in costume, the dust, the train, the shops and all that. But I am here to voice my little opinion about the experience at the Saloon (restaurant) and it was not that good. The place is doing a lot of business that is for sure, both inside and out the place was packed. And they have enough wait staff. I am not sure about the kitchen staff either in terms of numbers or quality that they maintain in their food. We had a large group and there are inherent problems with large groups. We had three full tables with about a dozen at each table. A wide variety of items were ordered. The first table got their food and finished it by the time the second and third table started to receive their food. Only a few were "delighted" or better with what they got. I was not hungry so I got a Diet drink and a basket of fries. The fries were $4.50, the basket was not even full, I figure that each fry was about $.25 and they were just regular fries. nothing special...thank god for ketchup. With tax the drink and a few fries was about $9.00. Certainly more than I wanted to pay for the "atmosphere" of an old mining town. The entire property was jam packed, people in the parking lot were parked all over the place. The crowd was diverse and frankly quite rude. They were suppose to be having a good time, but that was not apparent. Our group had our food an left. I will not be back. read more

I already reviewed the Mammoth Saloon in my review of Goldfield but it's worth repeating. It's always been crowded when I've been there. Don't hesitate to ask someone if you can share their table. Great experience. Wonderful live music on the patio. Some folks were even dancing. Chips and salsa to start and just the right amount too. I had the Mammoth Burger which is basically a cheeseburger and it was really well done. Fries were great and I really enjoyed them. My son had the sirloin burger and was completely satisfied with it. Three year old granddaughter had the corn dog and actually ate it! I can't remember what my 8 year old grandson had, but I do remember that he ate his lunch as well. If you want water at lunch, be advised that it is bottled water and they do charge $2.25 for it. The well isn't a suitable source of potable water so they have to "import" it. Yes, that's high for water but any single bottle anywhere, will cost you. Because they are so busy, the servers are dashing around constantly. I wasn't unhappy with the service at all. I thought they were doing a fine job. Not once did I see any of them just standing around. read more

What a joke!!! You couldn't pay me to eat here again...the food was horrible. We stopped in to get some food while exploring the Ghost Town on our way to another destination. We weren't too hungry, which turned out, was a blessing in disguise. We ordered the potato skins and a fish and chips plate. Let me start with the travesty that was the potato skins... The "skins" were lord only know how old precooked potatoes cut in half with a pinch of cheese bacon and green onion on top. When I say lord only knows how old, I mean it. Like they were baked last month and thrown in the fridge and forgotten about. The fish and chips were very oily. You don't get a glass of water here with dinner, you have to buy a bottle of water. If you want a plate to share an entree apparently that costs $2 to rent the plate. For the prices they charge they could at least turn on the AC, or a swamp cooler. Save your money for the mercantile or the apothecary, because given the lack of quality and pride in the food at the saloon, and the way overpriced cost, I think eating the soap at the apothecary would have been the better choice for food. Stay away at all costs, don't waste your time your money or your digestive tract. Definitely a one and done, we won't ever go back and don't recommend it to anyone. read more

Worst possible service. Took an hour and a half to get food. Waitress said she cries at least 3 times a shift. Super noisy with music blaring out of speakers that were fried a decade ago. Took 40 minutes to get change when paying the tab. We were there nearly 3 hours for sandwiches. read more

Sometimes on Yelp, as in life, an establishment can be a multi-faceted beast. Reading some of the other reviews, it seems that I may have lucked out not ordering food here, however my experience was quite pleasant. So, I came to the ghost town as my first stop along the Apache trail. My girlfriend had always wanted to visit a ghost town and we saw the sign and gave it a shot. Since this review is based on venue, service and temperature of the beer on a hot summer day in AZ and not on food, I have to comment on this "ghost town". Now, the fact that this is called a ghost town, to me, is BS. When I imagined visiting a ghost town in AZ I imagined being one of maybe three people there, and it being kinda creepy and maybe seeing the remains of a human skeleton. No. This is like an outdoor mall built 100 years ago. Needless to say I wasn't the biggest fan of this whole deal, but there was an Oasis for me, and that was the Mammoth Steakhouse & Saloon. Not only did this place supply me refuge from shopping and train rides, but they had the coldest beer I've had in a long time, and the funniest bar tender I may have ever met. There seemed to be a few regulars in the place, surprising enough, but mostly it was just tourists and not that busy. We sat at the bar drank a couple beers and hid from the heat, listening to the antics of what seemed to be the regular bartender of this joint. The place itself, is decorated with lots of old time western type stuff, and cowboy hats. I found the hats to be pretty interesting because each one had a date on it referring to the day it was donated as decoration. I don't remember the bar tenders name, but he spoke 6 languages and didn't finish elementary school. He is an older guy with a very unique accent, you can't miss him. Terrible experience. We came on a Sunday afternoon and were completely ignored by servers. We set in 2 different tables to see if the second server would at least give us the menu, and spent about 20 min (for real) in total to receive the menu. Then, after reading Yelp reviews mentioning the wait time for food, asked the server how long it would take for us 3 to get the food, and she said 40 minutes. We left right away. Our hearts were set on the Mining Camp Restaurant but, alas, it was closed for the season (or for renovation). Looking to take in a meal we ventured across the street to the Mammoth Steakhouse & Saloon. This place is geared for the tourist with the decor and various attractions behind the restaurant but it was a fun place to visit. I like the old west vibe the place has. The food we ordered was decent. I had the chopped sirloin and my old man had a steak. It was cooked the way he liked it and the cut was generous. Nothing awe inspiring but we were both satisfied with out meal. A local country/western musician played country tunes. Neither of us is a fan of that type of music so it did nothing for us. Other folks were obviously having a good time because this kat did requests. All in all it was a nice touch, I guess. Mammoth Steakhouse & Saloon isn't a place I'd return to for the heck of it but perhaps if I had family or friends visiting and I took them to the Lost Dutchman park and the Mining Camp was closed again. read more

Terrible and expensive. Ordered a NY steak and it came as thin as a sheet of paper. Hence, it was overcooked. The sides were CANNED corn (not frozen, but canned...yuck) and limp French fries. I get this place makes its money off of being located in a tourist park, so clearly they lack pride about selling good food - they'll make money no matter what because it's touristy. However, if you're there for the food- don't go. If you want the tourist attraction and don't care about the food - go. I recommend getting lunch or dinner prior, then go to have a beer and listen to the music. It is entertaining and cute, but the food is just plain terrible. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! It was the worst experience I've had at a restaurant, ever. First of all, It took the waitress about 15 minutes to take our drink order. When she came back with the drinks she walked away while we were trying to order our food. After about 10 more minutes passed, we finally placed our order. Another hour and 15 minutes passed before we got our cold food. While waiting, 5 tables sat, ordered, ate and cashed out. After all of that, the manager had the audacity to come out and tell us that we only waited 59 minutes, as if that helped his case, then proceeded to act as if we did something wrong. To top it off, they messed up our order (which the waitress informed us that there was a 50% chance that they would do anyways). I don't write a lot of reviews, I'm not picky, nor do I complain a lot, but this was just a horrible experience and I felt completely disrespected. If you do choose to eat here, don't say I didn't warn you. Worth noting that the tour guides were nice, but had nothing to do with the steakhouse. read more

This place is great! We were staying at the State Park across the street and decided to check out the Ghost Town. As soon as we entered the doors, we were greeted by a gentleman behind the bar welcoming us to choose any place we'd like to be seated. We chose the bar and we're very glad we did. The bartenders were personable and made sure to check in on our needs. We sat back for a couple hours enjoying the company, the awesome ambiance and the live music. Loved it so much we will be going back again next week. If you want the feel of a old town casual bar without the stuffiness of fine dining, be sure to check it out. read more

This place was awful. We went in for a couple drinks and an appetizer. We had (in our party) 2 regular Margaritas and a Prickly Pear Margarita. Didn't taste like any of the drinks had tequila in them. Then we got an order of potato skins that were serviced to us partially still frozen. Since the Margaritas weren't getting the job done, we switched to Corona bottles. Tasted like it was run through crappy tap lines. How they accomplished this in an unopened bottle of beer is still a mystery. read more

First time to the Ghost Town over by Apache Junction. Went there on a crowded Sunday afternoon around lunchtime and decided to eat here. A little strange trying to find a place to sit during the busy time but managed to find 2 places to in the middle of a table. There is a sign at the door that says "sit yourself." Was there for about 10 minutes and never got acknowledged by a server, so when a single table opened up, we went over there and within minutes we were approached by a server who took our drink and food order. I got the turkey sandwich, hubby got the pulled pork sandwich. Mine came with potato chips, his with french fries. My sandwich was the typical turkey sandwich, good, nothing spectacular about it. Hubby's pulled pork seemed more bun and less pork and he thought the french fries were a bit chintzy and could have had more on the plate. Service ended up being okay, nice atmosphere. Not the worst place I've eaten, but not the best either. Will try some place else to eat if out in that area again. read more

We made reservations which you don't need, and he failed to tell us that he was charging a $5.00 cover charge per person for the band that only played for an hour.
