As part of our tradition every year we get a cake they make specifically for the holiday. You have to pre-order. Normally the employee presents the cake to the customer to confirm it's correct. I ordered a custom princess cake for a birthday and it came out very cute! Light moist cake too! A bit pricey but birthday girl was very happy :) They don't have all the nifty cakes like at Sherman Oaks (i.e., burger cake, popcorn cake) but a solid selection on hand and apparently an awesome cake decorator :D read more

Viktor Benes saves the day! I had gotten my weekends mixed up and had to order a very last minute cake for Father's Day. Specifically, I wanted the Princess Torte, the one with marzipan ganache and yellow cake with cream inside. I called around and most bakeries were sold out. Happily, this location was able to accommodate me at the very last minute. The cake was both delicious and beautiful. Parking is easy as it's located in a Gelsons with its own private lot. When I arrived, the cake was waiting for me, ready to go. The lady at the counter was polite and attentive. My cake was ready in time, I paid and took off. They use a thin frosting on the outside and a creamy amazing filling on the inside. Their carrot cake is one solid layer of carrot cake filled with carrot and yellow raisins. The cream cheese frosting is around the outside and yummy too. For pastries you must try their Alligator coffee cake covered with pecans and pastry crust with a sweet filling of crumbled pecans, sugar and maple frosting. This place is an amazing bakery located inside Gelsons in Encino. I find that their staff is very friendly and always there to help. I love their alligator and it's a great desert to bring to a family event. My absolute favorite thing here is their cookies. Their pastries and cakes can truly compete anywhere in Europe and beyond. Over the years, I've happily tried their black forest cake, chocolate mousse cake, hazelnut cake, opera cake, Alligator pastry, carrot cake and others. Staff does not take food allergies seriously. I ordered a water challah and an egg challah and explained that one of my guests was a child who was allergic to eggs. When I opened my order neither challah was marked to show whether it was water or egg. No "E," No "W." No one could tell for sure but because there was a "P" written on the bag we guessed that meant plain, no egg. It turns out it was an egg challah and the poor child vomited all night. When I complained, the woman who'd taken my order was dismissive and told me we should have been able to tell the difference without a label. She said I could email the manager, which I did. The manager called me and was very nice and gracious and understanding. He assured me they would label the egg and water challahs for me next time and apologized for the rudeness of his employee. read more

This review is not for the products of the bakery. I am a resident in the area and a customer for over 2 decades. I came in Sunday morning a little past 10am. Not a busy time. I usually come here after work and is always busy, like 3-4 people ahead of me but I always get very good service by the usual ladies who have been there for a long time. This morning there were 4 ladies there, 1 helping a lady, another bagging bagels. The other 2 were on the other side - no customer. I asked if someone can help me, a lady answered, she'll be right with me. When she finally came, I replied in a friendly tone, finally. Unfortunately, that triggered her and she lashed back that she was busy cleaning and that she had to clean her hands before attending to me. I was very surprised at this behavior. She could have just simply apologized for the delay and ask what I wanted. A customer right me waiting whispered to me that they are always rude. I told her, not the older ladies who work later during the day. She agreed with my comment. read more
