They were fast with an initial estimate for my move, 37 boxes of books and two small pieces of furniture. Their offer was less expensive and clearer than others I approached. Making an initial deposit was easy, and swiftly acknowledged. Snow forced me to change our original schedule, and they were very accommodating. I booked this service over the weekend for the final items I had left after a larger move. This was a few pieces of furniture and some boxes. I explicitly asked for a 1-man option with a van. He tried to upsell to 2 people, but I was on a budget. According to their website, as long as there is valid legal parking, their 1 man will load everything up (my place had valid legal parking right in front). I paid a $200 deposit, and it was all set. After I originally submitted the web request I sent them an email clarifying all the pieces of furniture to move, and even sent them pictures of it (I couldn't do this on their web form). I said there was at least one item that needed two people, and said I would help with that one. I double-confirmed by email they were going to be ok with it, which they agreed. On the day of the move, TWO people showed up. I asked the guy and he told me it was all ok and not to worry. When the time came to pick up the bulky items I gloved up and was ready to help, but again he told me not to worry, and they got them between the two of them. There were also a bunch of extra boxes to move, most of which were completely empty (just saving them up for another move); I told the guys if those didn't fit it was fine, and to just leave them. But he again told me no problem, and he grabbed them all. Now, when everything was already loaded up and we are ready to go, the guy hands me the phone and tells me it's his boss. Then the boss tells me they are going to charge me for 2 people because of all the furniture. I said I sent them a picture, and he lies, denying having received anything (I have attached to this review the email chain, where you can clearly see the pictures I sent and his response). With an extremely thug-like attitude, he threatens me to just unload everything there on the street and go away if I don't pay for 2 people. He also says with 1 man the guy is not even supposed to load anything up, and it's just supposed to be me (another lie). So what I am supposed to do? I had to agree or they would have basically just kept my deposit and dumped my stuff on the street. Super shady company. They were extremely careful in protecting the table with moving blankets and plastic wrap. The two men were clearly professionals. Disassembling and re-assembling the table was necessary. I've used MWAV twice now. The first move was pretty simple; just a couple of large pieces of bedroom furniture moving down to a new place a few blocks away. My mirror ended up getting broken during this move, but I wasn't too upset about it since it was a cheap one from Target. Considering the small scale of this move, it was the best price I could find. Two years later I'm moving again. This time the move was a bit bigger: a mattress, desk, and some other bedroom furniture along with about 15 boxes. I was also moving from the east village all the way up to the west harlem area. Overall the move itself was fine. Workers were fast and efficient. However, one of my bags got left on the van. We missed it as it was covered by the blankets. Getting that final thing back was pretty frustrating. I had to reach out several times, and was told they would try stopping by multiple days and then they never would. About a month later I finally received it back, which was great. A couple days later, there's a tiny mouse in my apartment. My roommate that lived in this unit for 3+ years had never encountered a mouse, so part of me thinks it was brought in to this apartment through that bag. I won't ever know for certain, but I don't understand how else it would have happened. If I could write a review less than one star I would. Man with the Van spend an hour unpacking and repacking the van because they brought the wrong van size for my move. Because the items did not fit, they disassembled my items to forcely pack my items in the van. When doing this, they disassembled my furniture and damaged my furniture. They did not reassemble it, nor keep the screws, nor tell us about the disassembly without reassembly. When reaching out to man with a van to account for the now, damaged items I will need to repurchase, they only gave me a refund for the time spent packing and unpacking. Now I have to buy furniture valued at over $200 to replace the broken bits and pieces without screws of my furniture. So, in total, this move cost me $225 + $600 + tip + $200 (in damaged furniture to re-purchase). This was extremely disappointing and one of the most unprofessional moving companies I have ever used. read more

I had to move a large L-shaped sectional sofa to a friend's house (about 10 minute drive away). MWAV charged me $180. Both pickup and drop-off were in elevator buildings. The window was 12-3pm, and they rolled up at 12:15 and were ready to get it done. They wrapped both pieces of the sofa in plastic completely Delivered to drop off, setup sofa, took old one away to curb All done in 50 minutes. Best move ever. But I want to give some tips to make any move smooth: movers appreciate anything to make their jobs easier. So I made sure that pathway in the living room to pull out the sofa was clear, with plenty of room so they could reposition the sofa while they stood it up to unscrew the legs and wrap it up in plastic. Helping them with their job is only just going to help you in the long run anyway and everyone will come away with a positive experience. read more

It's confirming what do I need to do then she said oh well you were giving me a hard time anyway you wanted a set price I said it's just business. It's not a hard time. She didn't show up for the move then told me I didn't pay a deposit. I said I did pay deposit and showed her all the paperwork but she wanted a full payment upfront. What kind of shady business is that? I said no I'll give you half now and half upon completion of the move but no matter she talked in circles of bs so rude hung up on me and I hired this company to come pick up five boxes! Be very careful with this woman ! They just want your money. They don't want to help you, really they don't wanna do nothing. Please save yourself the chance of getting an outsourced team, there are plenty of more trustworthy companies in New York. I booked Man With a Van to move out of my apartment and the team was efficient and professional. Because I moved into storage I hired Man With a Van a few months later to move into my new apartment, and the experience couldn't have been worse. The van was unbranded, implying to me that they were not an experienced team. It turns out I was correct - the members of the team spent the day critiquing each other for being new, on the phone booking other jobs, and one did not help and spent the day in the van. Throughout the move and once they left I discovered many of my belongings were broken (i.e. a cabinet whose legs were knocked clean off, a shelf broken off my bookshelf), chipped (i.e. a chunk taken out of an entertainment unit and my coffee table), and they left permanent gashes on the walls. On top of this one member of the team wouldn't wear a mask, and another had a very dirty surgical mask. When I reported them to Man With a Van they refunded me and apologized, which I appreciated but far less than the money I have spent replacing broken items and now having very damaged items. A few weeks later I finally set up my TV just to discover it to have been completely broken from the inside, the screen cracked. When I asked for this to be replaced, Man With a Van told me they would not be adjusting my refund anymore, and that I should recognize the team was fired after my move. The firing doesn't replace all the money, time, and effort I've lost. Just don't do it. Go with another company. Moving is hard enough without taking this risk. read more

TLDR: Movers showed up late, didn't have toolset to assemble my bedframe, got stuck in rush hour traffic (because they were late), and then charged me for all of the time they had wasted. I have found a new meaning to anxiety. Full story: This was probably one of the most stressful moves I've ever done. When I had first contacted them, I was impressed by how fast their response rate was. They also had quoted me a very reasonable rate and given I had very little furniture, I was very comfortable with the 2 hour minimum rate they had quoted me. They also said that this service includes disassembly of my bed. But, then things went downhill starting from there. After paying for the $100 deposit, I had asked them to fill out a COI with a template I sent. My building required a COI and it took them over a week to get the COI to me so I couldn't book elevators until much later so the slots I had originally wanted weren't available and I had to rebook my entire move time. They had asked me to book elevators at the new building I'm moving to for 3-5pm so I did so. On the day of move, I never received a phone call so I was getting kind of anxious. I called them and asked them when they were arriving and they told me they were going to arrive between 3-5pm. Which didn't make sense because the new building I'm moving to had elevators reserved from 3-5pm so accounting for time to move out of my current building, they were going to make me miss the elevator reservation time AGAIN. They asked if I could move the time to later but that slot was the latest my building allowed for it so they said they would try to rush. They said given I have so few items one hour to move into the new building shouldn't be a problem. When the movers arrived, they asked me whether I had any tools or screwdrivers to disassemble the bed frame. I've never heard of any moving company not bringing their own toolset. To which, I became so stressed because if I can't get my bed frame to be disassembled, I can't move out?! So, I had to unpack 6 of my boxes that I had already packed to look for screwdrivers. I was further stressed by the fact that my time spent looking for screwdrivers was time they were charging me given that they couldn't disassemble my bed frame until I got them screwdrivers. Then, they moved my stuff into the truck but it took a very long time initially so much that I had to call them to ask and they said my service elevator was having issues, so that was another wasted 20 minutes. Then, when we were driving to my new building, the traffic was EXTREMELY bad because it was Friday at 5pm (since they arrived late and took too long to move out of my building we were stuck in rush hour). It probably took 40 minutes to get to my building. After we had unpacked everything, they charged me for the full time, 3 and a half hours even though 20 minutes of that was trying to figure out how my elevator worked and another 40 minutes was stuck sitting in traffic because they had arrived late. When I contacted customer service later to ask about the rates, they said there's no discount they can provide on this rate. This was the most unpleasant moving experience I've ever had. I was stressed about the time, I was stressed about finding screwdrivers. I then ended up paying a very hefty price for a very stressful experience. My rate ended up being more expensive than any flat rate I was quoted by other firms and I don't think I will be trying to service again. read more

I'm not happy with the way they treated my bed disassembly and didn't wrap everything. They were pretty rough with it and now I have a hole in my closet and a bunch of minor damages all over . The worse part was they hid this from me until they left and acted like saints at the end for the tip. If they told me up front that they didn't have the expertise necessary to disassemble the bed, it would have saved me a bunch of money and time. Be aware, they are paid by the hour and will take as long as necessary. They are not incentived to do a good job. Avoid this company at all costs. I had scheduled a move for 8/31 due to positive reviews from a former roommate. The initial scheduling was fine, but when I asked for COI documentation for my new building, I heard crickets. I followed up a few times over email (once a day) and heard nothing. I called and was hurriedly told to call back the next day. I called this morning and was again hurried off the phone with no real conversation. Another call around noon and no one responded. When I had my boyfriend call, he was practically yelled at, was treated incredibly rudely and was called "VERY ANNOYING" by Paul as he hung up on us. I had to schedule a new mover because the rudeness, lack of contract and lack of COI gave me very little faith that this move would happen in less than 48 hours. The movers did a good job. No issue with them. But their dispatch was incredibly rude, especially about the invoice. They claimed I was purposefully avoiding paying them. I was not. I simply had not seen the invoice come through and I thought they would have charged the card they had on file automatically from the deposit once I signed the delivery papers at the end of the job. When I finally did see an email from them, 5 days after the job, they said if I didn't pay the invoice by Friday, they would charge me with "theft of services". Sheesh. Give a person the benefit of the doubt. If I really was avoiding payment, would I have responded to a separate email immediately and paid you immediately? They were super communicative regarding costs, add-ons, potential additional charges, and the type & size of van they would bring based on my inventory list. It really made the booking process seamless, which was so appreciated. They called to confirm the move location/drop off address/etc. the night before the move and called again the morning of to let me know they were on the way and their ETA. They arrived on time, and while there was a minor hiccup due to standstill traffic a couple blocks away, one of the movers walked over to my apartment and started on the move while the other was in traffic/worked to find parking. They also offered a bit of time off of the total since it slowed things down slightly in the beginning. Even despite the traffic, they were SO QUICK. The entire move was faster than I even remotely imagined, and faster than any other move I've ever had. I moved to a fourth floor walk up and somehow the entire move ended up being only ~2 1/2 hours, including travel time. I called two of the 212 numbers this afternoon and the voicemail answered that the company name was "One thousand..." something. So I tried the "800" number. That one is an ad for a "medical alert system" and it is answered by a Robo woman. A few minutes after deciding these are SCAM phone numbers, I received a call from a real man claiming to be "man with a van." He (correctly) stated that he had received a call from my number. However, when I attempted to explain my experience with three of the phone numbers on Man With A Van's website, he interrupted me twice and, on the second interruption said, "Listen, we've been doing this for 20 years -- Thank you," and hung up on me! Great customer relations! If he can't even pay attention on the phone to what a customer is saying, how is he - or his employees - going to pay attention to the customer's concerns about how their cherished belongings are handled?
