I have ZERO complaints about my move. I had a relatively small move, only about 9-10 boxes of varying sizes from small to extra large (some quite heavy), a rollaway bed and a couple of oversized bags and a luggage set. I was moving from the Bronx to the UES of Manhattan. I chose a window between 11am and 1pm on a Friday to try to avoid rush hour traffic (both on the road and in building elevators). They called me at approximately 10:30am to let me know they were 2-3 minutes away. They pulled up in front of my building at about 10:45am because there was slight trouble finding my particular building. One of the gentlemen, Josh, grabbed a couple of dolleys and headed upstairs while his partner, Pete (I believe) waited for a parking space right in front of my building. Josh went to work loading up the boxes in my apartment and using stretch wrap on my rollaway bed and plastic storage drawers as I requested. Within a few minutes, Pete arrived upstairs and assisted in him moving everything out. They were in and out of my old location within 20-25 minutes with their van loaded. They headed down to my new location. I arrived a couple of minutes after them in a cab. They moved everything into my new place within 15 minutes and the entire job was done in 1.5hrs-which was a huge relief to me as I got to save money. They did not charge for tolls because they were sure to avoid them. They were quick, efficient, careful, polite and as I was worried of something going wrong (this was my first time using a moving company), it could not have been a more seamless first move experience. I will be moving again in several months and I do plan on using them again. read more

Holy Cow! Best experience in years!! I traveled from Denver (Longmont), where I had met Pete 5 days previously. While out and about on a perfect evening in Boulder, CO ., during my own stroll, i noticed Pete noticing the distractions of Pearl St. and then he tripped over a loose brick in the promenade's sidewalk. Wearing his sandals exposed a toe; which he did strike the brick with the toe. I'm sure he was seeing stars. In an effort to offer comfort Pete, i mentioned that stubbing your toe was the summer life "at the shore" and "it would get better soon". The Shore is the beach if your from the Philly area. Pete heard this right away and forgot about his toe for a moment, and then he asked; "you from the shore?" From there, a conversion to long to share here took place. Nevertheless, we did ask what, where and why of each other. I mentioned my travel home to help with my sisters move from Philadelphia (Broad st. is crazy!) to Margate, NJ and my back was dreading it. "CALL MY BROTHER!", he says. "MAN with a VAN!". This move was awesome! On time and friendly, just like Pete was, and, said the team in Philadelphia would be. I actually got, what felt like a vacation with my sister out of this trip. We simply unpacked, ate WHITE HOUSE Cheese steaks and had a great time together. I actually called Kevin's Van Service first. Kevin answered right away and said he was on vacation, but would put me in contact with his associate, Paul. I was moving from Utah to New York and I used abf u-pack to ship my furniture and everything I couldn't take on the plane. i needed someone to unload my u-pack trailer and move everything into my 3rd floor walk-up apartment. It was really short notice - same day, and I didn't have a specific time to give Paul as far as when the trailer would arrive. However, I was only able to have the trailer outside my apartment for four hours so I needed the guys to be close and available when it arrived. Kevin and John were really nice and professional. They prevented people from parking on the street in front of my apartment so there would be room to park the trailer, and when it arrived, it was unloaded and in my apartment within 40 minutes. Kevin and John were very careful with my things and worked well together so that it didn't take too long. I think the price was a little high. There is a two hour minimum, plus I had to pay for an hour of travel time, at $85 an hour. Ultimately, on such short notice it was the least expensive I could find, and I was very pleased with how nice, careful, and professional everyone was. read more

These guys are AMAZING. This is a review for Kellen, Junior, and Anthony, specifically. Paul, as well, was great in helping us set up the appointment on short notice. The three guys showed up to our apartment within the window they had originally set, and they never once complained about having to deal with our 5th floor walk-up. Most would consider it to be hell on earth. I didn't even like carrying 3 days worth of groceries up the stairs once, let alone moving out a 2-bedroom apartment worth of items. You feel bad sitting around while they do all the work, but they had better ideas, and were more efficient that we would've ever been. They suggested that they take the shortest route to our new place to save US money- that, alone, was surprising...most people would assume that movers will try to take as long as possible to make more money, but these guys were honest, hard working, and had everything done within 3.5 hours- about 2 hours shorter than we had originally anticipated. I would recommend them to everyone I know...if Kellen, Junior, and Anthony are any indication of how the rest of the company's teams work, I can't imagine looking elsewhere. Booked a couple of weeks in advance for a 1-bedroom move (into another 1-bedroom). Renee was super responsive in the days leading up to the move since both buildings required certificates of insurance, which she handled in just a couple of hours in both cases. I asked that the guys arrive on time since there was another move-out in our building 1 hour after mine. On the day of the move, we had a 26" foot truck and a 3-man crew led by Duane. They actually arrived about 15 minutes early and got started right away. Nelson, another mover on the crew, was the guy in charge of getting things out of the apt. He was amazing and deserves a gold medal in the mover Olympics. He worked extremely fast, but was also very careful with all our items. Move out was in about an hour, which was mind-blowing given the amount of stuff we have. The move into the new place was even faster. We just had the floors re-done, so I asked the guys to be extra careful and not drag furniture around. They got the message and Duane and Nelson literally carried everything in and were extremely careful in setting things down. Overall move was only 3 hours. Overall, an amazing experience and would most definitely use again. read more

I recently needed to have a couch moved last-minute from a corporate office building on Madison Ave to my apartment in Washington Heights. I e-mailed Man With A Van asking for a quote and within hours I received a response and was able to set up a date and time for the move within minutes. When I met the movers in the lobby of my office building, they were very professional, polite, and friendly and I felt very comfortable leading them through the building among my coworkers. They moved quickly and made an effort to not disturb the people working around them. When they arrived at my apartment, they not only brought the "new" couch in, but they moved my old one out and took it down to the street for me. When they put the new couch in place, they were very aware of the plant, end table, and lamp nearby and took the time to carefully set the couch down with enough clearance to not cause any damage. I felt very comfortable having these movers in my home and I was impressed by their professionalism, courtesy, and trustworthiness. I would definitely recommend Man With A Van and I will most certainly be giving them a call next time I need something moved! read more

I would recommend anyone that is moving to use Gentleman With a Van. I moved to Chicago recently. With all the mayhem that was going on my original mover called and canceled on me a few days before my move. Obviously, I didn't have time to stress as I had to move. I found Paul and his company on Craig's List. He was really professional yet cool. But most importantly he made it happen. He did his best to accommodate my situation on such short notice. Jason and his dad, the guys that actually moved my stuff for me were some of the nicest people I have ever met. My dog was all over them and they loved her and were so kind. They delivered my stuff right on time, were so careful with everything and helped me unpack and dump the garbage. The other thing about Paul that was great was that he kept in constant contact with me throughout the entire process. He was prompt at answering emails and made sure to be as accessible as possible. Price wise they are great too. Very competitive. These guys know what they are doing and they are doing it right. They will make your move an easy and seamless transition. Was looking for someone to move my daughter from a college dorm to a fifth floor walkup apartment in NYC, and emailed Paul on a Sat night, and he replied first thing Sunday morning confirming that he could do the move on Tuesday, providing a slot of 11-1 PM for arrival. On Tues, Paul's team checked in with me first thing in the morning, and when they had to run 1/2 hour late they kept me posted by phone. Seriously, hiring these guys was the BEST THING I could have done - there was NO WAY I wanted to carry her stuff up five flights! When the team of 2 guys arrived in their large van, it took them only minutes to load the girls' things in (my daughter's roommate decided to have her things moved by them too). At the new apartment, the guys literally ran up and down the steps. The unload/move in took about 20 minutes! Positive experience all the way around - prompt and clear communication, no nonsense, no hidden fees, care was taken with our items, and they are quick! Highly recommended! read more

Wow - these guys are incredible. I bought a couch on Craigslist that HAD to be picked up at a certain date and time. The mover I hired bailed on me literally 3 hours before the pickup time. I made a few calls to movers and found my way to Gentleman with a Van. Within 5 minutes Monique (the manager/dispatcher) had lined up Kevin to do the move for me. All throughout the move, Monique stayed in contact with me, giving me significant updates, and answering all my questions. Kevin - all by himself - was able to move a 2-piece couch (loveseat and chaise) without incident. He even wrapped the couch in plastic wrap and blankets. Kevin conducted himself professionally throughout the entire move. I can't say enough good things about these guys. They came through for me in the clutch - and at the last minute, no less. And, lastly, their price was very reasonable (they absolutely could have gouged me given the situation). I would recommend Gentleman with a Van to anyone. read more

After ordering a new sofa, the delivery company, Hep-Direct said that I had to supply two men to help their 2 guys bring the sofa up 4 flights of stairs. The delivery guys (from South Carolina ) CLEARLY had no experience working in a Manhatten building and tried giving up several times. The 2 guys from "gentleman with a van" completely took over by themselves to get the sofa up the stairs (notice that the delivery company said it would take 4 men). They both had a "can do spirit" (even removing a door) were smart and able to figure out how to manuever the sofa around the twists and turns in the stairwell quickly but very carefully so as not to damage the building or the sofa. Despite the heaviness of the piece they were smiling the whole time and were a joy to deal with. Did I mention that they arrived exactly on time and we one of the more reasonable insured movers that I called. I highly recomend them for moving - particuarly in tricky pre-war buildings. read more

These guys are great! I've hired them twice to move for me and I've been meaning to write a review for a long time... The first time they moved me it was just a few blocks in Harlem. The two guys (sorry I can't remember their names!) were super fast and finished the job in 1 hour and 45 minutes. Still, they only charged me for the minimum time which is an hour and a half. So nice! The second time I moved with them was about a month ago from Harlem to Williamsburg. The guys were running late because the job scheduled prior to my move turned out to be bigger than they expected. The movers and Paul, the owner, called me many times to give me updates, which I really appreciated, and were very apologetic. In the end my move was quick and the guys were very cheerful and energetic. Paul also, quite generously, took 30 minutes off my tab to make up for the delay! These guys are always a pleasure to work with! Highly recommended! read more

Hired Man with a Van to move a couch from NJ to Downtown Manhattan. It's hard to find a reliable company to make such a small move. It's too big to count as a delivery and too small for the pricing of most moving company. Man with a Van was perfect. From the quote process, which is lightning far to the actual delivery I have nothing but the highest praise. I was sent two movers, Leonel and Julio. They arrived on time, worked quickly and carefully and when they arrived at the delivery location and the freight elevators were down they somehow magically figured out how to get the couch to fit in the passenger elevator. Less skilled movers would have really left me with a problem.. either paying to have it returned to NJ (doubling my cost without anything to show for it!)or hiring someone to carry it 15 floors. I highly recommend them for any moving jobs you might have. They were a godsend for me read more

Ben and three other gentlemen helped us move. They came on time in the morning, were very friendly and moved efficiently. They made my move easy, I was happy since I heard a lot of stories from my friends and co-workers about they problems when they were moving. New York is full of moving companies that do a horrible job, but I guess I was lucky with them. They moved and packaged everything quite swiftly and in no time my apartment was empty. Their prices are very reasonable. I was expected to pay the amount I payed. They were very professional the whole time, even a difficult and uncomfortable stairway didn't become a big problem for them. They were always nice and polite to us. I liked that. Saved their business card, so if I move again I will definitely call them. P.S. By the way nothing was LOST or BROKEN. read more

We live in New York City and used Man with a Van to only move a few blocks and did not expect something like this would happen during the 5 hours that the movers had access to our apartment and belongings. Almost equally concerning as the fact that very expensive items got stolen was managements response and lack of willingness to help us with solving the problem once we realized that some of our things were stolen. Management is not responsive and after 1.5 months we are still waiting for a solution and to get reimbursed. We therefore highly recommend not to use this company. read more

Everything was superb! We had a van full of expensive, handmade furniture right outside my apt in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. And needed hands to bring it up to a 4th floor Brownstone. From Judy, the phone rep lady who was so patient and polite and willing to help my girlfriend and I out. It was snowing heavily outside and we were looking just for labor. The three movers she sent were fantastic: Duane (point man), Anthony and Raymond. They all arrived EARLY as it kept snowing throughout the move. They were all so professional, courteous, hard working, friendly and communicated really well with each other. They brought blankets, cling wrap, gloves, and took tremendous care with our furniture. They were very responsive to all our needs and requests. Definitely recommend! read more

Paul answered my call right away and was really helpful and friendly - he found the perfect guy to move the small amount of stuff I had from Manhattan to Brooklyn. The price was half the amount I'd been quoted anywhere else! He emailed me within 15 minutes after I hung up to confirm - such a difference from other people I'd called who take an entire day to return your call! Stu was super nice, fast, and considerate. I had to run a quick errand, so I met him in Brooklyn instead of riding with him, which was a really dumb idea on my part, because the trains ran slow. Nevertheless he was patient, and waited the entire time with my roommate. Anyone might have gotten tense but he was still so nice. Had amazingly positive moving experience! I must say I was suspicious when Paul (the gut I spoke with on the phone) said that its that simple- No hidden fees and he estimated the length of work- two hours, its 90 bucks an hour, which was more than others but I gave a try. It was great! I got two nice guys that came on time, worked hard and finished the move in less that an hour and a half. I moved from Washington heights to astoria, we got lost on the way, and the guys assured me that they will deduct that time from my bill. I defiantly recommend Gentleman with a van and will use their services again! Must say that apparently, the prices are doubled in the end of the month- which I feel doesnt make sense o worth the value. Otherwise- great company read more
