Jesse, who came to bid the job, was knowledgeable, helpful, and obviously had authority to respond to questions and concerns. Peter, the owner, reviewed Jesse's video of the job, and approved the written bid. We chose 312Flooring. Their bid was not the lowest, but they were not the highest either. Peter and Jesse guided the project through our Condo Assn., stayed in touch with us reporting their progress, and were ready to start on the date promised. On the appointed day, the installation crew, Juan and his two sons, arrived. The next three days were almost pleasurable -- they were skilled, polite, respectful of our home, and enormously helpful in resolving the difficulties that arise during any remodeling project. First off, they make the customer drop off and pick up your own rug. Ok, but I was hoping for better service. Groupon is loaded with companies that pick up and deliver, but my commitment to the local guy was steadfast. The work was ok, although they ripped a side seem that left some of the backing unraveling. "Go get yourself some silicon glue" the guy tells me "and patch that before it unravels" when I note the damage at pickup. And now the price. $240 bucks to clean an 8x10 rug. Wow that's more than twice the Groupon price for rug cleaning. I support local business, but expect them to compete on service, quality and price. Edgewater carpet went 0 for 3 here. I tried, but next time I'll try somebody else.

Also the fact that there were several names on the same address confused me. Chicago Flooring, Touch of Beauty Carpeting, etc. Nick was able to come out to give me an estimate. He was able to weigh in on what he though would work best for a rental unit. I got 4 other quotes to compare and they all came in very close in price, but the customer service and responsiveness was better from Chicago Flooring. I deciedd to go with them and they did a great job. It took 1 day to pull out the old tile and replace it with LVP. The sub floor was a bit jacked up so they needed to add some self leveling thin set which was outside of the scope of the original quote. They charnged a reasonable amount for this and were able to take care of everything in one day. They moved all of the appliances, and they replaced all of the toe kicks which used to be tiles. I did make sure that was specified in the contract. They did a good job cleaning up after themselves. Due to the nature of the work, there was still dust settling for a day or 2 which I had to clean up but that is understandable getting the work done in the winter when you cant have windows open. I will update the review as the floor wears etc, but thus far, I am happy with the quality of the work.

When the installer team came out, they did not replace the boards and told me new boards were unnecessary. I was still charged for the board replacements anyway. I disputed this directly with the company on March 19th, the day of the installation, and did not receive a follow-up. I had to reach back out on March 31st to continue addressing the issue. At that point, they asked for photos, despite my earlier explanation that photos would not prove anything because of the nature of the work. Today, they responded by saying the pictures were "not proof" and agreed to issue a refund, but only after I pushed the issue. At that point, it's no longer just about the money. It's about integrity, poor internal communication, and how a legitimate customer concerns are handled by this business.
