    Brake service

Met with Wilbert yesterday 08/23/21 for brake service. I told him brought my own OEM brake pads for front and rear. Couple hours later, he called me and told me the truck was ready for pick up. When I arrived back at the location, he told me that my front brakes are still good (70%) but the rear needed the replacement. He was very honest and straight to the point. He could've easily charge me more for unnecessary labor but he didn't. Highly recommend!

Mr. Wilbert is literally the little Miyagi of cars. I promise if you give him nearly any car, he can surely work his way around any issues that you are having. He is a very knowledgeable and funny guy that can do the job with ease. This shop will not bs you or try to scam you unlike stealerships. However, they will provide you a reasonable price especially for the quality of work you are getting. Come to Mandalay to ensure a solid automotive service.

JUNE 2012 My scion TC zooms down the 60 freeway headed east at 1am. My gas is full, my oil was full, and all seemed well with my car, boy how I was wrong. CLANK! DING! BANG! Those sounds spilled from my engine bay and into my ears like finger nails on a chalk board. Smoke, white smoke began to fill my windshield as I began to make my off the freeway. Exiting the freeway my car powers off and everything locks, luckily I was able to pull off into a residential area safely to phone AAA. A few days later I had my car towed to Toyota of puente hills, they wanted $1.5k just to open the engine to see if that was the issue, and if it wasn't then that money is gone bye bye. Then of the engine was blown that would cost $5k to replace! Hell no! Had my car towed over to Mandalay auto at the recommendation of my good friend. He told me wilbert at Mandalay did great work and would work with me. He knew immediately as we spoke over the phone what had happened to my car, that my engine was blown. All I had done was given him a verbal description, he didn't need to open my engine or even open up the hood to know that was the issue. I knew at that moment he was a guy I could trust. He needed to find an engine for me and did so in a matter of hours and with just under 50k miles. So less than my original engine. The install went well, he serviced my car and had me back on my feet in a matter of weeks. CURRENTLY I continue to frequent Mandalay auto for my services and have never had any issues out of my vehicle since. I will never return to the dealer, because they are the reason my engine blew in the first place. (I took it to puente hills Toyota and downtown Toyota regularly) The service at Mandalay is A+ ( the woman at the front desk is a bit hard to understand but she is so freaking nice!) Wilbert is an all around great guy who is honest and knowledgable about all things auto. He is a mechanic I trust and rely on to have my car functioning properly. I have recommended a bunch of people and they all agree!

    Great working on s2000

Victor and his son run a friendly, family-owned business, and their customer service is excellent. They provided an immediate diagnosis, followed up quickly with the price quote and expected completion time, and estimated about two hours for the repair. To my surprise, they finished even earlier than expected -- and they actually reduced the final cost because the work was completed ahead of schedule. That kind of honesty and customer-first service really stands out. It was also clear that they have a lot of longtime customers who trust them, and I can now understand why. I'm happy to say I've become one of those customers myself. Great work, fair pricing, excellent communication, and genuinely friendly people. **Overall, a great experience and a business I'm very comfortable recommending!**

As a first-time customer, I brought my '79 El Camino to this shop because the car was idling high…read more After the service, I paid $500. They replaced my intake manifold gasket, BUT a P0200 engine code appeared afterward. I went back the next day and explained the issue. They told me they had left an injector unplugged and instructed me to clear the code, saying it would reset. The code was P0200, so I followed their instructions and cleared it. The code went away. The next day, I drove the car and it suddenly started shaking while sitting at red lights -- something it had never done in the five years I've owned this car. I checked the engine codes again, and P0200 had returned. I went back again and explained what I had experienced. They then told me that, in order to address the P0200 issue, they would first have to start by checking for vacuum leaks. This is where I became frustrated. P0200 is an injector circuit malfunction code, so I didn't understand why I was being told that I needed to start with vacuum leaks in order to address that specific code. I had already paid $500 for the initial service, and now I was dealing with a new engine code and a new shaking issue that the car had never had in the five years I've owned it. After declining any further service, I picked up my car from the shop. I then noticed a scratch along with a missing piece of rubber trim on my front bumper. I had not noticed either issue before bringing my car to the shop. The shop claimed they did not hit anything with the car, but they are also ordering me a replacement rubber piece. Overall, this was an extremely frustrating experience. As a first-time customer, I came in expecting to have my original issue addressed, paid $500 for the service, and left with a new engine code, a new shaking issue, and damage/missing trim that I had not noticed before bringing the car in. Based on my experience, I won't be returning. I would recommend that anyone considering this shop be aware of what happened to me and carefully inspect their vehicle before leaving the shop.
