At the end of our paid consultation, I shared that I would do my homework and follow up. When I shared via email that I was seeing quite a bit of pricing variance online, East Bay Hearing immediately dropped the price from $7K to $5K. When I did further online research, and shared screenshots documenting that the Oticon Intent 1 was available for $3399 one place and $4445 at another place, they said they would try to price match. They later communicated they could not go lower than $5000. If they had been willing to improve their pricing even a little (to, say, $4800), as a sign of good faith, we would have likely gone with them (their location and service was appealing to us) but their hard line stance on the $5K (coupled with the fact their original quote of $7K was nearly 30% higher than their second quote of $5K - which they offered up as soon as I shared my benchmarks, suggesting they're regularly overcharging folks who are not skilled at online price benchmarking), turned me off.

My father will be testing out Miracle Ear hearing aids for a week before deciding whether or not to place an order - given that the hearing aids he needs will cost somewhere between $5500 and $7500 (my father doesn't have a Medicare plan that covers hearing aids), we really appreciate this opportunity try out the hearing aids before making this major purchase. On their website they even give a partial phone number to get a RMA (see photo). I'm not sure they are even in business any more. By the way, the hearing "aid" was so offensive in sound it constantly created feed-back and a shrill sound of everything else. They say that you can get a programming cable ($$) reprogram yourself. Really? I'm gonna throw more money at a lousy 'aid' that doesn't work? I don't think so.

The place itself is a bit difficult to find…read morebecause it's inside of a larger building with lots of other doctor offices, it's the first door the left and the second window down next to a dentist office. The receptionist was super nice, I was able to get an appointment that very day and once I came in everyone was so nice. They quickly got me inside and the nurse was very nice and attentive to all my symptoms. The doctor is quite the funny guy he cracks jokes as soon as he walks in, which is awesome but also I feel like it stops him from listening to me and taking me seriously but at the same time was funny enough to make me feel comfortable. He sent me away with some antibiotics and some lab work. I didn't get my lab results back until about a week later (even tho I remember him saying I would get them 2 days later) and when I called nobody got back to me I had to call again and speak to the receptionist directly. Overall I would recommend this office the receptionist/nurse is great the doctors pretty good. No real complaints but also nothing crazy.
