I've always gotten good service at Mandola's. Always been lucky with parking, but I never go there during peak hours. Thank goodness. After last night's take out, I'm going to put this place back towards the top of my list for above average Italian food in the neighborhood. Slightly above Brick Oven at 35th Street, Mandola's cranks out fresh thin pizza's and decent Pasta Carbonara. Haven't tried many pasta dishes here. The Cannoli does not sit in the dessert case for display, they make it fresh as you order it. What a concept! Many selections in the pastry and dessert case though makes me want to try something new soon. Very complete coffee bar and a solid selection of wines, plus kid friendly make this place stand out. I can find taralli, Mulino Biano, Paneangeli vanilla, and several other Italian products that I used to buy and eat while living in Italy. I've often stood in your order line wondering why I have to spend $16.00 or $18.00 dollars for a lunch that I have to order at the cash register like I'm at the Taco Shack ordering a $2.00 potato egg & cheese at 7:00 in the morning. With your prices I believe I should have a waiter come to me at my table and ask how he or she may be of assistance. Today we ordered a sandwich and fries to go. We called it in so we wouldn't have to wait in your ordering line. It comes with bread and spiced olive oil with a bit of potato salad; every bit of it tasty as hell. but I had to eat it all with my fingers and had to wipe my hands off on my jeans as I usually don't keep napkins and forks in my car. I came with a group of people and I think everyone was unimpressed. I got garlic bread and the fried zucchini and calamari appetizer. The garlic bread was way over done, someone else ordered it as well and there's was also overdone. The bread you get with your food is actually better. The calamari didn't have much flavor which leads me to think it wasn't that fresh and wasn't very well seasoned. read more

We've been going to Mandola's since they opened so I can't explain the lower reviews here. We've never been disappointed with the food. From the sandwiches, to the pasta, and pizza they're all delicious. I do tend to stick with one thing and yes they changed their menu and eliminated one of my "go to" items but as I said we've enjoyed every item that we've tried. Fantastic food, great atmophere, and a market pantry to take some home! Been here several times and the food is always top-notch. Most recently, there was an understandable mix-up in our order and we didn't complain or anything. Someone who looked like the General Mgr or Head Chef realized the mistake and gave us a free appetizer! It especially impressed me because, like I said, we didn't complain or anything, he just took it upon himself to make us extra happy customers. The bakery and gelato are also amazing. I grew up in a city with a lot of options for authentic Italian restaurants, bakeries, and delis. This is the closest thing I've found in Austin. I honestly was not expecting this place to be that good; maybe because it's always located in these cheesy developments, and/or because the interior seems to be a Disney-fied version of what some guy thinks Italy might look like. BUT I've been pleasantly surprised every single time by the food. It's just always solidly good. Not, like, the best Italian food I've ever had by a longshot, but pretty dang awesome for a reasonable price. Their bakery is good too. Service has been friendly every time. The service is wonderful, the food is amazing, and I love the decor/ ambiance. I can literally close my eyes and point to anything on the menu and I know it will be delicious. I was craving fresh, quality authentic pasta and my search led me here based on previous reviews . It didn't disappoint. The bread was amazing and the olive oil/ seasoning dipping sauce they give you is wonderful. You order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. I am a vegetarian an opted for the pasta that was saluted garlic, cherry tomatoes, and basil in olive oil. It was awesome! My fiancé had the chicken fettuccine Alfredo and thought it was great. They grilled and seasoned the chicken just right. Everything was seasoned so well. We also tried the gelato. So delicious! I have traveled to Italy and this food is every bit as tasty as what I had there. If you are looking for a quality product and dislike corporate food chains, then this is the place for you! read more

Good italian food that isn't a chain. The classic spaghetti and meatballs was delicious, my husband had the gnocchi with meat sauce and he really enjoyed his as well. The only disappointment would be the wedding soup, it was lukewarm and just ok. The bread and dipping oil they bring to the table is to die for, i could eat a whole basket!!! Mandolas has an excellent baker!, I recently made my wedding cake with them and it has been the best cake in my life! we had the the coconut flavor, simply beautiful and delicious for such an important event . My girlfriend and I have only recently discovered Mandola's and have gone there about 5 times in the last month and a half. The food is incredible and have yet to be dissapointed. I typically will stick to the same 2 or 3 dishes and all the places we eat however I have ventured out and tried a different menu item every visit. I don't know why some of the people pick on this place....I take my kids there on a regular basis and we LOVE it! They have the best Pizza in Austin, Honest! Really they do - I don't know whose cheese they use but I do know REAl Mozz when I see it..And they are using it....The secret to any good food is knowing how to buy it.....this guy knows how to buy good cheese he can't be getting it from one of those mass market distributors who repackage processed garbage cheese like they serve at Papa Jokes-P(lastic) hut and Domino-thankyou's (they all buy the same processed garbage from the same guy in Denver who makes all of their cheese).....Everybody also talks about how great all of these new little pizza joints are around town.....clue to you pizza neophytes -ask them where they get their cheese-who makes it and have them show you the package it came in....if they aren't going to the source then you are eating the same thing their distributer is selling to every other mom and pop look alike. Is that horse dead yet? I lika da cheese in case you couldn't tell. The Sauce is excellent also and the Crust is good, it may not be a 5 but I'll give the crust a 4.5..... Call ahead and go straight to the front of the line. By the way this rating is for their pizza....their pastas are good but not 5 stars 3.5 to four maybe.....but there are no 5's in Austin for pasta....not when you've been spoiled by new york italian restaurants. read more

I ***love Mandola's! Yummy Italian food, interesting cafe situated in an Italian grocery. I like the diversity of patrons and the option of eating inside (can be a little noisy if crowded) or outside (2 different dining patios). With Austin's wonderful weather why would you want to be inside? I have had many different menu items and always rave on how good my meal is. The pizza is crispy with fresh ingredients - and not overly heavy with greasy cheese--fresh & crunchy. My fav (if I have to pick one) is Spagetti Carbonara....it's pancetta & egg base is heaven. Mandola's serves fragrant foccicia (spelling?) bread with meals, add the herb olive oil for dipping. Did I mention the bakery? So many Italian baked treats to choose from. I love the chocolate cake with a nice cup of espresso. One of my all-time favorite Austin resturants. read more

This is the best damn pizza in America. My favourite pizza comes from Pizza Pino in Paris... not really accessible here in Texas. There is one particular parma ham pizza that is absolutely to die for and I have found it's carbon copy here. If you get it for dine-in they top it with a wonderful spinach salad that's thrown right on top of the pizza. It looks ridiculous, but accents the taste of the ham perfectly. And it's better than the uncooked egg the French like to top it off with :) When you order the pizza to go, they still give you the salad (arugula, parmigiano, and lemon vinigrette) in a separate cup so it doesn't wilt in the box. I haven't had any other dishes because whenever I come here all I want is the heaven that is this pizza. The atmosphere is so amazing. It reminds me of an old Italian market I frequented in Philadelphia as a kid. Beautiful and quaint little set up. It does get quite crowded and loud on the weekends, but I feel that adds to the big family vibe. The only bad thing is the parking. Too many people love this place. read more

I went to Mandola's for a work-related unit meeting for December and was wowed once again! What a great place this is. It has the perfect fast-paced East Coast / NY Italian eatery atmosphere and great food. Their pepperoni pizza is off the chain... it is nothing like the chains or the non-chains in Austin. They use quality in all the ingredients and bake it in a brick hearth to perfection. After I ate a whole pie that could feed 2, I had to try one of their latte's. What a good decision! It was perfect. Few places make a perfect Italian espresso and this place has it! I regretted it later when all those calories put me to sleep, but it was well worth the experience. read more

Came here on our first date and have been coming back on a regular basis ever since. We love it here. I like that I can order and pay before we sit down. We usually eat outside, which is really nice and open... it's fun to people watch and there's a cool fountain nearby. On the few occasions we've eaten inside it's been too loud, too crowded and the wait staff makes you feel like you're in their way. The parking situation is horrible!
