This could have been a WONDERFUL dinner...... however this evening was the night the 3rd worst storm in Austin history landed as we were literally walking to the restaurant Small neighborhood Italian restaurant lots of 50's like atmosphere without records, poodle skirts & juke box, more rat pack without the Frank, Dean & Sammy photos. We ordered and our food did come out quite quickly ~ I ordered fresh corn risotto arrived with beautiful slivers of pecorino cheese & a handful of arugula, really good definitely would order again. My hubs ordered the carbonara, which gets mentioned a lot as a restaurant favorite was exceptional, he orders it frequently so I take his word for it ~ Asti survived the storm, we all stayed dry however their fan exhaust on their roof didn't~ so they announced they would get all the orders out, then would be closing for the evening ~ I know they are open again so will definitely be back very soon read more

Horrible place if you have any allergy or foods you need to avoid. Service, ambiance, etc. are all irrelevant. They served me an ingredient I can't eat, despite checking three times. We asked when we placed the order twice, when the food arrived (and the person who brought the food left and double checked!!) that there were no mushrooms in our dishes (which I will get very sick if I eat), but a few minutes after eating some meatball, my stomach started feeling queasy. Yep! Mushrooms. I asked the server and she said oh I'm so sorry yes there are mushrooms in that. We confirmed three separate times with two people! This is incredibly dangerous. At least I don't have an anaphylactic reaction to mushrooms. The absolute worst part of it all was that they didn't even comp the meal (which I would expect in almost no situation but this one) but they just took the item with mushrooms off the bill. My boyfriend didn't get to finish his food because he was worried to care for me and get out of there quickly, and I was in the restroom yakking up my entire meal. I can't recommend against coming here enough. Horrible service, truly ruined our night and I spent days recovering. read more

We all ordered Capelletti spritzes which were delicious and refreshing. We then got the calamari and Caesar salad as appetizers. The calamari was tough and the breading tasted like old oil and the lettuce used for the Caesar salad wasn't as fresh as I would have liked it to be. For mains we got the margherita pizza, the lasagna rotolo, and the risotto. The pizza was good everall with soft crust and fresh topping, the risotto was good as well, but the lasagna was definitely not what we were expecting. It was a rolled lasagna with only one sheet of pasta and the rest was a dry and extremely salty bolognese. It was broiled or baked before serving, so the top of it was burnt and charred which was not very appetizing. Overall, the food was fine, but the quality does not justify the steep prices. FIG & PROSCIUTTO PIZZA (7/10) - The pizzas are a great option for an appetizer! The crust is super crispy and you can tell it's housemade... plus the pizza overall isn't greasy or oily. The taleggio and mozzarella cheeses were so flavorful and the prosciutto was cooked perfectly. I would have loved more fig preserves throughout the pizza to bring more sweetness and the watercress didn't add anything to the pizza. I'd definitely order a pizza again but might try a different flavor next time. SPAGHETTI CARBONARA (9/10) - This was the highlight of the meal! The portion size is perfect and the spaghetti noodles are housemade and on the thicker side which I loved. The sauce was delicious, had the perfect consistency, and the guanciale was so flavorful! The cracked black pepper on top was tasty but I could have used a little more salt (the bites with guanciale were great but bites without were lacking slightly). I'd order this again! FINGERLING POTATO SALAD (8/10) - I loved this side because it's very unique! I've never had fingerling potatoes in a potato salad but the texture was great! The server described the potato salad as being between a Texas potato salad and a German potato salad and I'd say that description was spot on. It's very creamy but has a slight sweetness to it. I'd order this again! CLASSIC TIRAMISU (8/10) - This was a different take on what I'd consider a "classic" tiramisu but I really enjoyed it! It leans more on the chocolate side than espresso... I would have loved a dusting of espresso powder on top or a stronger espresso flavor in the soaked ladyfingers. But, the candied almonds were very unique and worked well with the flavors! I'd order this again! I think Asti Trattoria is highly underrated when it comes to Italian restaurants in Austin! The appetizers are so delicious. We had the calamari and it was so fresh and perfectly crispy. We got the crusty artichokes and I loved them and we had the chicken mushroom meatballs. Wanted to try this place for a while and my husband and I finally got a chance to stop by during Happy Hour on Wednesday. We ordered a few things off the HH Menu and one pizza and they were all excellent. The fried artichokes are really, REALLY tasty and come with some kind of lemon aioli. The aioli was delicious also, and we dipped the free focaccia bread in it. We actually ate a ton of bread but they didn't seem to mind and happily brought us refills throughout our meal. Next time I will get the full order of artichokes because I really wanted more than the HH portion. We also ordered the calamari and it was one of the best I've ever had. The batter was very light and crispy, with an almost airy crunch to it. It was perfectly seasoned so that it didn't even need the sauce that came with it. (Just a squeeze of lemon and we gobbled those down). It was also cooked perfectly - nice and tender and not at all chewy like calamaris is at a lot of other restaurants. For entrees, we shared the carbonara (Happy Hour portion) and the potato pizza (standard menu). The carbonara is a real star. Authentic and rich, they use guanciale like they do in Italy, instead of porchetta or lardons. My husband thought it was a bit salty, but I thought it was divine. (The salty flavor comes from the guanciale and the pecorina romano -- It's not like they add salt). He and I still ate most of it and took some home for a midnight snack later. He did love the guanciale and said the texture of those little bites was incredible. The potato pizza was good, but I might add something if I get it again next time. I think they had prosciutto as an extra topping option and that would have punched it up nicely. Very comfortable and cozy atmosphere too. We had a fantastic experience at Asti last night. The homemade pastas were as good as any I've had in my 20+ years in Austin, the caesar salad was loaded with parmesan and white anchovies, the wine was delicious. But what really made it special was our server. We were there for my wife's birthday dinner with our 7-year old who is not a big fan of eating out. The server charmed as soon as she came in the door with the offer of a long breadstick. He took - and delivered - her order from the great kids menu quickly while giving us more time to relax, and was friendly and accommodating throughout. They even gave us a free dessert (ricotta brulee, with a candle) to celebrate. It had been over a decade since we'd been there (we used to live in the neighborhood), and it was even better than I remembered. My daughter's response was 'Why haven't you taken me here before?' They could rest on the tried and true, deftly serving a loyal clientele favorite dishes, fine wines and sweet desserts. ASTI Trattoria has been in business since 2001. Forget stale: Their menu is innovative offering true Italian cuisine, some straight traditional and some with a little twist of new ingredients and presentation. Chef and owner Emmett Fox works in the front-facing portion of the kitchen line, making sure each dish looks beautiful before heading to the table. It also gives him the chance to greet guests and table check how the food tastes. We had two courses going with the Stuffed Mushrooms ($14) and the Burata Caprese ($16) as an antipasti and the Grilled Rainbow Trout ($27) and a pair of pastas for the Primo course. The mushrooms were stuffed with three cheeses - ricotta, goat and parmesan topped with bread crumbs and truffle oil. Six to an order. They go great with an opening cocktail. The trout is served with skin on and plated with an eggplant caponada (sweet and sour Sicilian version of ratatouille) and herbed fregola (small round pasta). Also served with a grilled half lemon you should squeeze it on the fish. Trust me it a really good idea and tastes different than a raw lemon. Our waiter Mitch did a fantastic job all night. I had a hard time deciding between the Seafood Risotto ($36) and the Saffron Spaghetti Carbonara ($21). Apparently I am not the only one who had a hard time choosing. As a result, he explained that ASTI offers half portions for half price. Problem solved. Note: The prices listed for pasta are for full portions. ASTI's carbonara is as authentic and delicious as any you will find in bistro in Rome. They use real guanciale, not bacon or even pancetta. NO cream, and mixed with pepper, egg and parmesan cheese for that salty, creamy flavor. When I return, it's a full portion for me. I equally love risotto, particularly when it is made properly. It takes time and attention. For those who cook it at home, you know what I mean. Topped with clams, mussles, shrimp and calamari. The full portion is the most expensive dish on the menu...worth every penny. Seriously, if love Italian seafood dishes you must try their version. Asti is not worth the price tag. Went last night and we ordered two glasses of wine, two main dishes and we spent $100 with tip. I was caught off guard by the quality of the pasta considering the cost of all main dishes being between $23 - $37. My wife ordered the carbonara which was 4/5 good. The pasta did not taste fresh, almost like it was undercooked. I ordered the clams linguine and was disappointed. The size of the dish for the price tag was really unacceptable. The pasta again tasted undercooked. This was our second time here as we didn't enjoy our first time, but based on reviews wanted to come back to try it again. We've been looking for a good Italian restaurant in Austin that wasn't directly downtown & stumbled upon Asti Trattoria! Looking at it from the outside I didn't get Italian vibes - more diner, but the food was all spot on. First the bread was delicious & we got olive oil / balsamic to complement it. Our starters were the Burrata salad & stuffed mushrooms - this was a great balance of fresh & baked savory goods. Mushrooms could have been seasoned a little more. Then had the saffron seafood risotto & rigatoni - added the sausage! They were out of mussels so comped me by adding additional seafood and I was not disappointed. The flavors were savory with a little spice and the risotto was cooked perfectly! The rigatoni was good, but adding the sausage did make it a bit greasy. Found this place while searching for Italian and so happy with this gem! It's located in the Hyde Park area, made sure to have a reservation on a Friday evening and it's a cute quaint place on the corner. There is a patio area and indoor seating. Weather wasn't too ideal so we opted for inside. It's such a wonderful aroma inside. They bring bread to the table, it's the right amount of butter and salt and sops up the sauces from your dish perfectly. My friend and I each had a glass of wine to start. She had the rigatoni and I had the spaghetti carbonara. Everything was well portioned and delicious! We wanted to try for dessert but didn't save room as we cleared the entrees! Our waitress was friendly, warm and inviting. We felt well taken care of and she had great recommendations! Definitely would try again. My twin sister and I picked this as our birthday dinner while in Austin for a concert, and I would happily celebrate every birthday here if I could! They very graciously brought out prosecco and a non-alcoholic option for us to toast with when we arrived. Our server was very helpful, going through the menu with us and listing their specialties. Most importantly, everything we ordered was delicious, but we all agreed that the artichoke appetizer was the standout. We ended the meal with their unique take on tiramisu (topped with delicious candied almonds), which they brought out with birthday candles. Delicious food! I loved the carbonara, the mussels, stuffed mushrooms. The calamari was perfect, so happy it wasn't chewy and rubbery. Found this place on a whim. Everything was delicious and great service. Wish they offered fountain drinks instead of canned cokes. Still gets 5 stars because it was soooo good! The affogato was incredibly delicious with the warm mini doughnuts, tiramisu was delicious too! Can't go wrong with any of the dishes here! read more

I ordered eggplant parmigiana. The size of the serving was not overly large but nicely sized if one is watching their calories. The food was very good and worth going back. Two things that took a star off. The tables are very close together. To leave we had the excuse ourselves from the adjoining party as the backs of our chairs were very close. Although good, the eggplant parmigiana was NOT worth 28.00 for what was received. The dish was a bit overpriced. read more

This is one of my favorite stops in Austin. It used to be in my regular rotation during law school and I'm so glad the place hasn't changed too much over the years. Chris and his team do such an amazing job year over year. My wife would yell at me if I didn't mention the vibes. This place is terrific for an intimate dinner or with a small group of friends. Bring your date here because it's guaranteed to go well. The food is amazing. The first time I came Jennifer recommended the pasta carbonara for me. I'm normally not inclined to eat the same dish multiple times if I haven't tried everything else on the menu but honestly it's so good I get it every time. Their stuffed mushrooms are to die for. The white bean dip needs extra crostinis because you're not going to want to waste a single morsel. The calamari was excellent too. I came this last time with my wife and some friends of ours. My wife got the Capellini and she made me specially write it down so she could remember to get it next time. There was a house special butternut squash pasta that one of the vegetarians in the group ordered and it was excellent. My other friend ordered the lamb sugo Mafaldine. It was so good I might consider ordering it next time. They were pretty busy and our waitress was juggling a few tables inside and outside. We still didn't feel like there was any lack of service. She stopped by our table regularly and ensured we were getting everything on time. Even the owner came by to present a bottle of wine for us!
