Review for Mandolas TLDR: above average food, a cute and original atmosphere, well priced, and a cool area. For the food; We started with drinks. I had the lemon basil Mimosa, which while it wasn't a "traditional" Mimosa, was still very good. Wine selection is relatively small, but is more than adequate. For a starter, I had the Caesar salad. Nothing particularly great about it. But it was nonetheless very good, and I would order it again. The table bread was springy and delicious, especially with the provided herbed olive oil. For mains, we had the chicken parm and the spaghetti and meatballs. For both of them, the meat was phenomenal. Both of them had great flavor and were cooked perfectly. Both of the pasta sides with the dishes however, were average at best. Both having overcooked pasta and lackluster sauce. The atmosphere is cute, and it's in a convenient and trendy part of town, and while it certainly wasn't cheap, we felt that we more than got what we payed for. read more

We order mandolas about once a week for a family of 5 the last few years, so this is not a knock on their food, their food is good quality and usually cooked well. However, I did an online order tonight and for first time ever I ordered at wrong location. Once I realized this 10 minutes later I quickly called the store to let them know in hopes they would cancel my order and perhaps even send it to right location. Not a chance, after I told the young lady on phone she asked the manager about it and quickly came back on "we can't refund your money". I didn't even ask her for refund, I just wanted to give courtesy of letting them know and perhaps they could help fix it. Well they just lost a long term customer. The eggplant parmigianna never disappoints - best in the world most nights. The eggplant skin has a roasted flavor, maybe it is pre-marinated. I don't know, but it rocks. I get it w/gluten-free pasta and switch out the sauce for pesto. They have a tremendous outdoor fountain on the patio that is a joy to hang out by, even on terribly hot days. One of the best things about Mandola's on Guadalupe is the diversity of people who frequent it - many times there are 3-4 generations age-wise, along with a good racial and ethnic of people in addition to differently-abled people. Mandolas never disappoints! The food, the gelato, the delicious unlimited bread. Everything is just so good. I recommend getting the tortellini, that is definitely one of my favorites. Mandala's Italian is spot on for flavor and the dishes come out great. Their Bolognese Gnocchi is one of my favorites. I will say that it lacks a bit in the customer service. There isn't any wait Staff- you order at the counter, and an expresser brings your items. Anything you need from there you get yourself or wait in line to get back to the register. The food was very good. Really liked the calamari and thinly sliced zucchini. My only issue is this is a high end fast food restaurant. Order at the counter, where you get your drink. Take a seat and everything came at same time, bread, appetizer, salad and main. So if you are looking for a sit down, server dinner, this is not the place but if you are looking for good food with very fast service you can get that here. read more

The food was delicious, however their response to a pizza done wrong was pathetic. We had a build your own that was split to 2 halves; the receipt had everything correct but they put the common toppings on one side. After I told them it was done incorrectly, they were confused at first, then went back to fix it, but with an attitude. So far that's not the worst if it; mistakes happen and we deal with it. The incorrect pizza arrived in under 10 min, but the 2nd pizza took over 20 min to get to us. When I questioned the assistant that was helping us on this, she said a bunch of people came in so there was a line. What?! You made the mistake, you redo that pizza immediately, not put us at the back of the line. This was a disappointing end to our Saturday night. read more

My family in Austin highly recommended this spot, and unfortunately because our children were asleep we had to order in a late dinner so I can't comment on the restaurant itself, but the food I can. My wife ordered the chicken parm and myself I had the Pugliese sausage and mushroom pizza. First off I have to say the pasta on the chicken parm was outstanding. It tasted homemade, super light and airy but very filling. The chicken was cooked perfectly, juicy with plenty of sauce. My pizza was also great! The sausage and mushrooms were flavorful and the crust had a nice chew to it while retaining a nice char on it. Hopefully next time I can go taste the food inside the place, but even for delivery it was still outstanding, some of the best Italian I've ever had! read more

My husband and I don't live locally, but we visit Austin once or twice a year for an excellent dentist. Since we need to stay a night or two in town, we're working on building a base of favorite restaurants in the area. Italian tends to be a pretty safe bet for both of us, so after a brief search online we poked our noses into Mandola's. Well. We poked our noses in twice, since the first time was so good. Unfortunately the first time we made the mistake of coming partly filled up on road trip snacks and then we overfilled on a wonderful dinner there. I got a cold Mandola Hero panini and hot, crispy fries. I was groaning when I left, but how do you turn down good Italian? We came prepared with empty stomachs the second time. I got caesar salad (solid flavor!) and tried something totally new: Cannelloni Fiorentina. I was not disappointed. The atmosphere is fun. It definitely has a buzzing, Italian market feel, and in fact you can pick up cheeses, pastries, coffees, wines, and meats at their various counters. We didn't get a bottle of wine, but we did get a glass each. Whoever wrote their wine menu earned their pay, let me tell you. I don't know chardonnay from sauvignon but the descriptions made me want to taste everything in stock. Next time we're in town for an appointment, I'm sure we'll swing by to try more wines and new dishes. read more

It's a casual almost deli style Italian restaurant mixed with a general store vibe. They have many pasta dishes and will prepare it with whatever modifications you request. Especially helpful for mixed groups of carnivores and vegetarians. Mandola's has a fantastic coffee,gelato and dessert counter. If you're looking for classic Italian food, a nice atmosphere to hang out, great wait staff and bartenders to interact with, and a no hassle, not-downtown vibe, look no further than Mandola's. I was so impressed when a waiter came around with tiny dessert samples, when the bartender was so friendly we basically knew his family history after our meal, and when the shrimp scampi flavor literally blew my mind. Okay, I know I put up a five star rating several months ago... but unfortunately, the last time I went for graduation weekend at UT, things did not go well. I'm talking about the bakery/gelato/dessert section. My parents ordered a Italian Cream Half Sheet cake for my graduation reception. A man took care of us and brought out the cake. He showed us PART of the cake, and we were amazed. Later on, Maria, the baker, came out to introduce herself and showed the cake to us. Unfortuanetly, they didn't open the cake box all of the way, so we assumed that the writing was correct on the cake. After leaving, we went to Salt Lick BBQ in Round Rock to drop off the cake. Instead of saying "Congratulations Josh", it said, "Congratulations Joosh". (Which is totally incorrect) :( We had to settle with taking off and "o" with a big space in between, and to make matters worse, I was kind of pissed. We couldn't bring the cake back because we were 45 minutes north of Mandolas, and it would've been a pain to bring back. Nice staff, but they didn't get the job done. read more

I've been here a couple times pre pandemic and have always enjoyed it. I came back for the first time in over a year and did not have that great of an experience. First off, the tables were all extremely close. None of the seatings were changed compared to pre pandemic. I was fine at first as we had gone around 12 PM and there was no one else around. But as we continued eating more and more people came in and sat next to our tables extremely close and within 3 feet of me. I felt very uncomfortable so I quickly finished and put my mask back on. I ordered the fettuccine alfredo and my boyfriend ordered the Monday special. Mine tasted rather plain and the pasta was soggy. My boyfriend said his was fine. But shortly after finishing eating, my boyfriend had intense abdominal pain and diarrhea and my stomach wasn't feeling so hot either. Not sure what it was and if it was food poisoning, or what it was about the food but we both ended up getting stomachaches so we won't be coming back anytime soon. read more

Mandela's Italian Kitchen is so good that I have to visit every location. I got the Parma Pizza and Tortellini Modo Mio with the peach Bellini slush. Mmm so good. The pizza had a lot of arugula but the flavors were still there. I love their bread and olive oil and had to get the Italian cream cake too. I have been coming here once or twice a year because their food and ambiance is great. However that being said, my only complaint is the attitude I keep geeting from some of the servers. Yesterday (Sunday, August 5th, 2024) I stopped by just to get some of their gelato ice creams to go. After placing my order with a smile, a young lady at the counter proceeded to get me a cup of ice cream and she was not only in a bad mood but she served me a tiny cup for $5. I had told her it was to go and kindly asked her for a box to go. She got angrier and threw away the cup then served the ice cream onto another plastic cup and could not find a lid so she covered the cup with clear plastic film. I gave her a small tip but she was in such a bad mood she would not smile nor say anything to me. So I just left feeling as unwelcome as I always have at this location known as "The Triangle" in Lamar. I try to stay positive and not believe this place is racist but the treatment here always seem to be the same. read more
