I've come to this teahouse a couple of times already and each time it is always packed. The store is very spacious and does have lots of tables for customers. In addition to milk tea, smoothies, and other drinks- they also have bingsoo now! I appreciate that they use fresh watermelon for their watermelon drinks and that most of their smoothie flavors are pretty spot on. My go to drink is an Original Black Milk Tea. The flavor of the drink itself was good, not too sweet, enough tea flavor. However, the boba was so chewy and bland I didn't even end up finishing my drink. I don't know if it was just that specific night that the boba was bad; because the previous times I have come they were not like that. Now onto the bingsoo! Don't think that based off of the pictures that the serving size is small because honestly they are pretty big! My boyfriend and I could barely finish a regular bingsoo in addition to our drinks. Last time we came, the four of us shared a large and it was perfect. My absolute favorite bingsoo is the red bean milk! There's just something about Red Bean that reminds me of being a kid. The game selection wasn't as bad when I visited a couple months ago. But now, most of them are missing things or practically falling apart. One of the best places in Davis to get some milk tea/fruit tea. The blend of tea and milk is always good here. The boba however is not as good-it is not consistently cooked at all. Sometimes the boba is perfectly chewy and delicious. Other times it tastes old and soggy. Choose other toppings if you come here. If you're feeling fruity tea, try the kumquat lemon basil seed. My least favorite thing about this place is that it's in a random strip mall out in West Davis. So, when we went to Davis to see the sunflower field, we decided to go to MandRo to quench our thirst. I ordered the okinawa milk tea with pudding (50% sweetness and 50% ice). It came out really really sweet, even my friend who ordered 30% sweetness also said that her drink was too sweet. We had to wait until the ice melted to drink the milk tea. Our friend's friend said that usually it was not that sweet. For Davis's standard, maybe this place is the best tea place (due to limited option). They need some decoration! But it's a nice open space with plenty of tables. It was packed the whole time we were there, luckily we were able to get a table. I noticed they have board games in the corner as well. I couldn't quite decide on what to get...but usually everyone tries to get something different so we can try more drinks. I decided on the Okinawa Milk Tea and it was my favorite of the bunch! It comes with pudding already and it's a large size, only $3.75! You can change your preference of ice and sweetness as well. This place is very likable, they were unique shave by experience, and they have a lot of options, including Boba what you can enjoy as well. My niece is really enjoy visiting here whenever they come visit me, we sit around one of the shave ice dishes, and they just love it. The only thing that's really lacking is the decorations and the interior setting are very Spartan, seem a little bit miss matched, and then dingy and I think it really would benefit from some interior design and revamping of their exterior patio area. If it was a more sophisticated design, offered a few basic tea, shop items like popcorn chicken chicken or a few other dim sum items, I really think it could elevate the next level. Just came back from the soft opening at MandRo in West Davis. WOW. Line was loooooooong and clear out the door when I arrived at around 8pm. But I guess that's the kind of excitement a new boba place in Davis would generate. This teahouse is located in West Davis, a part of town that really does need more restaurants and businesses. West Davis just isn't a place I frequent... there just isn't much of anything out there. It's cool that those who live in that part of town have something like this here. The restaurant space is surprisingly large with some high ceilings that add to the spacious feel of the place. MandRo is a bit spartan when compared to other boba places in town like Quickly, Old Tea House, or Teabo. There just isn't much eye candy anywhere - the walls are plain and the lights are very bright. Something about the mood of the place just isn't where it needs to be. I ordered the regular black milk tea to see what the baseline drink would be like. And it was pretty good! I found the tea to be on the lighter and sweeter side - the way I like it. If you like a strong or floral tea, this isn't it. But something smooth and easy to drink? Yup! My drink didn't blow me out of the water... and I wouldn't wait in a really long line for it, but it was good. No complaints here. My friends ordered the green tea and told me that it was delicious. One of them is from SoCal... so that has to mean something. MandRo Teahouse is a solid addition to West Davis. This place reminds me of a doctor's office mashed up with a bookshop cafe (minus the books). Although it may be plain and lacking in decoration, the large doors to let in a lot of natural light that makes this place look nice. I was a little confused at where the menu was until I saw it behind the sign saying that there's no more egg pudding due to the Oakland Port strike. They'll have it once they get it through a flight shipment but I was a little surprised that it wasn't made there, but that's fine. In the meantime, they have a Milk Cotta topping to sub for it. I ordered a milk tea with grass jelly and boba (no pudding). Whenever I first try a new boba place, I'd always get the milk tea since it's the most basic to me. I had it with 50% ice since I usually take a while to drink it and don't like it when ice dilutes the drink. The service was a little slow for an afternoon but there was only 2 people frantically making drinks. There were a few people peaking out from the back but I think they're the ones to make stuff to refill the front. As for my drink, the tea has a good mellow flavor but there is a weird texture that stayed on the roof of my mouth. I'm not sure if it's from the boba, grass jelly or tea but it was a but strange to me. The boba doesn't have good flavoring but at least the texture is perfect. For the grass jelly, it doesn't have much flavor but it is light and does give a refreshing feel to the drink. There was some powdery remnants inside my cup, not sure if they used powder for milk tea but I see them pouring from giant canisters I'm confused. I'd guess that the drinks are made from tea leave and such since they were poured from canisters but I wouldn't know. Final Thoughts: Price is reasonable and service was ok. I did find it strange that a customer reached over the counter to add more boba or something for herself as she kept chatting with one of people in the back. Another Boba place! I'm not really milk tea snob, so I'm not an expert when it comes to differentiating between okay milk tea and excellent milk tea. BUT I do however know when milk tea is decent, as SF is where I'm from :) DRINKS: At first glance their menu reminds me of ShareTea. I usually go for taro milk tea or something similar. Unlike all boba place in Davis where they use powder, THEY USE ACTUAL TARO and there are CHUNKS in them!!! :) This is how you know when you've got an excellent taro milk tea. I've also tried their basil kumquat green tea and it's actually pretty good. I've yet to try their creme foam tea, but probably will the next time I stop by. Btw, I'm one of those people who don't like boba in my tea, so I can't speak for the quality of their boba. They're a bit pricey in my opinion and they accept credit card unless you spend $8. Tucked away in a strip mall in West Davis is this nice little boba shop named MandRo. We come here a lot and mainly for their mango sago and their taro ball dessert. Those are the stapes that we come to get mainly. I used to get their milk tea as well, but lately it seems like it hasn't been the same so now I just skip that altogether. They are still opened during the pandemic for take out. If boba or milk tea is what you want, there are definitely better choices out in Davis, but if you want some of the other desserts, it's definitely worth a visit here. read more

Some colleagues and I popped in to MandRo on a Friday evening, and the place was packed. We saw another group order a big bowl of something with what looked like mango pieces on top, so we asked what it was. They told us mango bingsoo, and that's what we ordered. IT WAS SO GOOD!!! A large order was $15-16, but it fed four of us, and the quality was top notch. There was a heaping bowl of what I thought at first was shaved ice, but it's actually more like shaved cream. And it was all topped with soft and sweet pieces of mango with a side of cream to pour over the top. I've never had mango bingsoo before, so I'm glad MandRo was the place I got to try it first. I'm glad there's finally a place for decent boba in Davis. I was always disappointed before that all the boba places in Davis couldn't measure up to the ones in the Bay Area but MandRo is definitely comparable. I always get my drink 50% sweet with 30% ice since I don't like my milk tea tasting like pure sugar. Mango bingsoo: ice shavings, mango, sweetened condensed milk -- what's there not to love? This dessert is definitely meant to be shared. It's satisfying, delicious, and the only spot in Davis you can get bingsoo/bingsu. Rating = A 2. Okinawa milk tea: roasted brown sugar, black tea, and boba. This is my go-to boba milk tea whenever I visit a boba shop. Be sure to get egg pudding, it's worth it. If you like things sweet, get it regular, otherwise, order it 50% sweet ... trust me! Rating = A Tip: Be sure that when you get any bingsoo dish, don't pour the sweetened condensed milk all at once, otherwise, it spills all over the place and be prepared to spend 25 cents if you want more condensed milk. Bus your own table when you're done. I wish they'd have a better system because personally, I think it's kind of gross to hand your tray of dirty dishes to staff in the area where they mix the drinks. This store is located in north Davis, so it's not as assessible as the other locations, but their 3M milk tea, taro milk teas, and bingsoo are amazing. There is usually plenty of parking, and got amount of space inside. There have some board games are most boba places have, but most are a bit old and missing. The interior is simple, with some music, and usually can fit 25+ easily, but the lines can get busy during their busy hours. New boba place that opened in Davis after I left. Davis has so many new restaurants now, and I only left 6 months ago! This boba place is located in West Davis. Not a place I would've frequented while in school. The interior is quite interesting. It seems like an old apartment lounge turned into a cafe. It's is spacious with few tables littered. They provide free wifi for studying, but I wasn't able to connect while there. Their K-L series weren't available. How disappointing! Pretty nice prices as the drinks are all large sizes. I ordered the Mandro milk tea. I advise adjusting the sweetness! My milk tea was a bit too sweet for my liking. I could taste the tea, which is always a plus. Like what does it even mean??? LOL Decor 2/5: pretty minimal but efficient I guess. Just a bare bones boba place that has ur essentials - tables, sofa, board games and a counter where u order. It honestly kinda feels like a study dungeon. That being said, there's nothing rly special about the atmosphere besides the immense amount of students who frequent this establishment. They should honestly consider working on interior design. Quality 3/5: mediocre at best. Nothing really stands out about the boba and their menu is basically a clone of ever other boba place around. The only niche they cover is korean bingsoo (shave ice), which I found out about after my Korean friend mentioned that this was the only place with bingsoo. But honestly it's not that good either. Overall 2/5: I've been to mandro a handful of times and only because my friends wanted to meet up there, mostly for convenience, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get boba here. It is IMPOSSIBLE to pour over the bingsu without it getting all over the place. Majority of it went off the bowl because the ice on the bingsu is formed like a little mountain and it is rimmed along the bowl so there's nothing to catch the condensed milk. It just rolls on off!! After wasting two small shot glasses worth of condensed milk, we asked for more and they charged .50! The strawberry bingsu was tasty on it's own. No need to add anything else but the ice eventually gets thick and syrupy due to the syrup from the strawberry. It is best to consume before it starts melting. Price was decent for what you get. We were definitely stuffed and could not finish 2 regular bingsu's among 4 people. The entire store has an overwhelmingly strong aroma of black tea. When this first opened and started serving mango bingsoo, I came here so often that I feel like most of my uni days were mango flavoured. Since I've graduated, I've come here less often because the drive. But every summer and every mango season, I dream of the bingsoo. If you haven't tried it before, it's basically shaved ice topped with different toppings, ranging from chocolate, to kinako and red bean, to strawberries and my favourite mango. But the shaved ice part isn't your usual ice that you get from your fridge. It's like frozen milk or something, I don't know for sure, it's just creamy and melts in your mouth super quickly because it's flakey ice. And you can add or not add sweetness from this little container of condensed milk. I usually forgo the condensed milk because it's already sweet enough for me. I've come here all seasons, from summer to basically autumn. The staff are always working hard and are patient. They usually always double check for me if they have mango in stock if it is off season. And so far, I haven't encountered a time I went and they told me they couldn't make me mango bingsoo. But summer bingsoo is always overflowing with a generous amount of mango. You can easily share a small with friends or 1 friend if you're both big fans of it. To be honest I would have given 5 stars but there is a 50 cent fee if your purchase with card is under $8 and they don't "remake drinks" if they are not to your liking which I find to be pretty ridiculous. My friend ordered her usual Okinawa milk tea with 80% sweetness and it was sweeter than usual so we took it back and they added the tiniest amount of tea to dilute it. It was still too sweet so we took it back a second time and they did the same thing. It would have saved both the employee and customer the time and trouble had they remade the drink instead of trying to dilute it with tea twice. Mandro Teahouse has always been that "main" spot for "good" boba/ milk tea over the years. However, with more boba shops emerging up with better quality tea and management I realized Mandro is very mediocre! There's no strong tea taste in their drinks. Mostly just milk and sugar. Or if it's just the tea series- diluted tea. First, management are so stingy. Employees gets a small discount for boba and can only get one free drink when working. They can't bring a drink home in fear of giving it to someone else. They charge for extra cups. And recently they put a note saying it's to "save the environment". But that is complete BS because they've been charging for cups way before. If you know anyone working here they can easily tell you how frugal the owners are. The only good thing people come here for are the Bingsu. Mandro is on my list of top 3 boba spots in Davis and it's my most visited. Their milk tea and boba have the best flavor and the prices are good. I also love their lychee green tea. Just don't get their potted plant drink. They also have bingsoo and sago for desserts! The only thing I don't like is that they don't have real food or snacks here. The interior is filled with IKEA furniture and is kept clean. Usually gets packed here but it's a cool place to hangout for a bit. Location is great because there's always parking! read more
