The salon is a peaceful, calming space to enter with soothing scents and music and inviting displays of Aveda products as well as charming gifts. I was overdue for a trim and shaping of my long, wavy hair. Kathy did a magnificent job creating a lovely wash-n-wear look that doesn't require a lot of products or any tools to replicate at home. First of all, Mane Teasers is a woman-owned establishment. THIS fact alone should have you booking an appointment with them. "Go, woman power!" I recently visited Mane Teasers because my hairstylist -- who I had for years -- decided to "retire" from hairdressing and venture into another, more lucrative, and completely different profession or business. When I was looking for a hairstylist, I really wanted to find one who was local. I LITERALLY have been passing by Mane Teasers in my car for over twenty years, but I never stopped to walk in. I never would've known about this hometown favorite if not for my friend from high school (she drives an hour to get here) who is a regular and loyal customer. So we met up at Mane Teasers one Saturday afternoon and I was treated to a relaxing cup of Aveda "Comforting" tea and a Chakra reading while I watched the colorist do my friend's hair. The aromatherapy scents make this salon smell like a spa... This is an Aveda Concept Salon and it has a good selection of products. I purchased an Aveda soy candle and a pair of blue peace sign earrings. The salon showcases local artists' jewelry and I'm a sucker for handmade trinkets. The Chakra reading was my first. This is done with 7 Aveda scents. You choose cards with symbols and colors and then you smell the aromatherapy scents until you narrow it down to one. Interesting and relaxing! I'm very picky when it comes to who cuts my hair. My mom owned a hair salon and I've only had three people cut my hair on a consistent basis during my life. 1) My mother from 1976 to 2001, 2) Jennifer who cut my hair in Indiana from 2001 to mid 2005, from mid 2005 until mid 2006 I was in hair cut purgatory going to different people every month and then I was recommended to Kathy. Kathy does a great job and aims to please. She gives me several ideas for my hair and always lets me try different products. Her salon is always very clean and a nice touch is that she decorates for EVERY holiday. Parking is easy and if you show up early there is really good selection of magazines. There is lots of it and it just kind of does what it wants. She has cut, done highlights and styled my hair. Absolutely love it here! Kathy is amazing at what she does. You can tell she cares about all of her clients, and I always come out of the salon feeling like I've caught up with a friend. She has been doing my color for over a year now and is excellent at creating a natural color that still looks great even when I don't touch up for 6-8 months. I also love how she cuts my hair. Thank you to Kathy for doing such an awesome job coloring and cutting my hair. This was my first time at this salon and I chose it because I love Aveda and all of her positive reviews. She is definitely a color expert. I am thrilled with my color! As for the cut, I asked for a blunt cut and she gave me a blunt cut. For some reason stylists always want to layer and texturize my hair, which makes it stick out all over. The real test though, is when you wash it and style it yourself. Mane Teasers is a little gem! This has been my go-to salon since I started working in the LA area four years ago. The ladies in this salon are wonderful, down-to-earth people, who just happen to do great things with hair!!! I'm very picky about my hair, and my color is tough to achieve, but Kathy always gets it right. Brenda is also fantastic - her clients are always all smiles! Another bonus is that these ladies care about their clients. They genuinely want you to be happy, with your hair, and with your life! When they ask how you are, they really want to know. This is a rare find in our all-about-me world. I don't make a habit of countering other reviews, but I have to mention the remarks made by Sam W., especially the odd reference to Tabatha's Salon Takeover and the dust(???). I'm an operating room nurse, so naturally, the first thing I look for in a salon is cleanliness. This salon is as clean as they come. As for the handwritten receipts, not having electronics in the shop really helps with the quaint, zen vibe. Who doesn't like to see a personal touch these days? The one part that does make sense to me is the joking about giving back change in singles. These ladies are hilarious, and then some! If you don't like to laugh and have a good time with great gals, this isn't the place for you. But if you want a great little salon with talented, caring, funny people, you'll love it here. Kathy has done my hair since the mid '80's. Lengths from mid back to a super short style with a bout of chemo in between. I have tough hair to deal with. Curly, frizzy with a mind of it's own. She does a fantastic job, is accommodating as she can be in every way. Wouldn't go anywhere else. Brenda is pretty great, too. read more
