Best ramen around! Always fresh and friendly service. Have had the mangetsu ramen and tan tan (careful it's very spicy!)
Good food for your standard sushi place next to a grocery store Looking for some new places to try and there was a lot of favorable reviews for this location, so figured it was worth a trek. Place is spacious, plenty of seating. It's built kind of like a night market stand. Not sure if that's intentional, but that's the vibe I got. Girlfriend and I got bento boxes. I got the pork katsu with an upgraded sushi roll, and she got the beef bulgogi because she really liked the stuff she gets at the hotpot place and wanted to compare. Food comes out relatively quickly, about 15 minutes or so. We take pics and dig in. The pork was cooked well and pretty tasty. the seaweed salad was fresh-ish, a little chewy but decently flavored. the special roll I got was done well. they seasoned the rice appropriately and the portion was adequate. The fried items were very basic, and I didn't understand the cold potato salad on the actual salad. That one was weird for me. To me, this reminded me of a place I've been to before. It, too, was tucked away in a plaza next to a grocery store with decent sushi. That place is quite a ways closer to me, and I consider the quality to be similar. So for me, this location is fine for the area but not trek-worthy. If you need some japanese fare, this will satisfy that itch. It's good, but not special.
I was a first timer at Mangetsu and must say I was skeptical. My daughter had eaten there before and said it was her favorite restaurant so because it was her pic that's where we went. From the outside it would appear that you would order it to counter and sit on diner type chairs and tables. However, that's not the case. The inside is very well done and inviting! We order the pork gyoza to start with. These five dumplings were absolutely delicious. I had the crab salad, also known as the Kani salad at other restaurants. What set this one apart was it came on a bed of romaine lettuce. I absolutely wanted to lick the bowl. It gave you more food and the dressing was a nice compliment to the lettuce. I had the avocado roll which was delicious and very fresh. My daughter had her go to which is the house Ramen. Because she had had it before she knew how delicious it would be and it didn't disappoint. Service was excellent and the place was hopping with lots of takeout orders. I can't believe I'm just now finding out about this hidden gem!
Amazing little spot! The portion sizes were huge lots of tasty food. I had the charsu pork bento box and it was some of the best I have had. The inside in nicely decorated and clean. The server was kind and attentive throughout the meal but we were the only table occupied they had a lot of to go orders.
I love Mangetsu, the food is great the servings are great. I often order delivery through DoorDash, sometimes I order pick-up. I dined in once and the experience was good, didn't have to wait long for our appetizer or main dishes. My favorite dishes are the bulgogi tempura gyoza, chicken katsu don, and chicken sushi roll. The chicken katsu don is my comfort dish, I've tried it at other restaurants and I've tried to make it at home (multiple times) but nothing compares to Mangetsu.
Great place for Japanese and Korean! Haven't had a bad meal here yet. Service can take awhile but it's one waitress working in a small restaurant. She's waiting tables and handling take out orders all on her own, and they get A LOT of orders, if that says anything. The waitress is always friendly and pleasant, so the fact that it can take awhile when busy does not bother me. I've had most of the appetizers, sushi, ramen, spicy pork bulgogi and the bento box. The box is such a great deal: you get a main course, Japanese potato salad, seaweed salad, 3 pieces of vegetable tempura, miso soup, AND you get to pick one maki roll. You get a lot of food and it's all worth it. BEWARE: When they say spicy, they mean spicyyyyyyy! I love spicy food and it burns so good!
This place is a hidden gem. Honestly has my wife and I's favorite ramen that we've had in all of Connecticut. We got both the spicy and regular mangetsu ramen with a Karrage Japanese fried chicken appetizer. The appetizer was very tasty, but the ramen is incredible. The chashu pork is perfection, so tender and delicious. The egg is also so good and flavorful. I really like how the egg is marinated and the also how the chashu is lightly torched. Our waitress made us some delicious drinks as well, a yuzu sour and an oolong tea highball. Such a standout meal, we love it here.
We visited again in the middle of the afternoon and found the place to be empty as expected. Service was very quick from seating, orders, and food service. The waitress was very patient with our party as well. We tried some different items this time. The Kara Age was tender and crispy. The eel roll was good. My husband tried their poke bowl which he really enjoyed. The bulgogi was a bit lacking in flavor, which led to my conclusion that their Japanese flavors are much better than Korean and that's what we'll stick with in the future.
I intended to order the Spicy Miso Ramen from Mangetsu via Door Dash, but my fingers must have fumbled because my DoorDash receipt says I ordered Spicy Mangetsu Ramen and that's what I got. No matter. Miso Ramen would have been a new order for me, and I already know that I like Tonkotsu style ramen like the Spicy Mangetsu Ramen. It was a fortuitous mis-order, because the Spicy Mangetsu Ramen was great. I've never had "spicy" Tonkotsu style ramen, and Mangetsu's was true to its name. After the first few spicy bites, I wondered if it would be too spicy, but things settled down and the flavor was just right. In addition, I picked up ginger, scallion, appropriate salt and pork broth umami flavors. The pork had great texture and was delicious. The noodles were good chewy. The egg was just right. And the other ingredients (menma and mushroom) worked well too. Although Mangetsu's was the first "spicy" Tonkotsu style ramen I've had, quality-wise, it was on par with the Tonkotsu Ramen I've had from another top ramen place in the Greater Hartford Area. Mangetsu also did a terrific job packaging the ramen for delivery. The broth came in one plastic container, which was in a tightly tied plastic bag. The broth was still very hot notwithstanding the 20 minute-ish travel time from driver pickup to drop off. The other ingredients were in a separate plastic bowl and livened up quite nicely when I poured the broth in. I would highly recommend the Spicy Mangetsu Ramen and I look forward to sampling Mangetsu's other menu items as well.
My husband, two kids, and I have been here twice, and we find it good enough to come back. We jokingly say it's a Korean restaurant that makes fair Japanese food. I seem to gravitate towards the salmon teriyaki bento box, as I get to try different things... There's the salmon teriyaki and rice, which is good. There's potato salad and seaweed salad. I got to choose from a list of sushi rolls, and I chose an eel sushi cut roll. They also include what they call 3 pieces of tempura, but it's not what is typically presented as Japanese tempura; it's just 3 fried appetizer pieces -- an egg roll and deep-fried gyoza (dumplings). My husband ordered the bulgogi bento box and thought the bulgogi was really good. (What I'd say about it being a Korean restaurant? LOL) My oldest son had chicken teriyaki and rice (which is offered as a bento box but we asked for just the chicken teriyaki and rice), which my son though was okay, but he thought it was a small portion. My younger son had salmon and avocado cut roll and was satisfied. The staff is pleasant and friendly.
Wow! Where to begin... Mangetsu knocked it out of the park. Although the sign outside says 'Japanese Restaurant' there are also many Korean offerings as well. We tried some of both! The sauce on the Kara Age was (*chefs kiss*) delicious! The meat was really tender and juicy and the pieces are large! This dish is a great value. The shrimp tempura was legitimately the best I have ever had. Each piece had 2 thick pieces of perfectly tender shrimp, the rice was seasoned well, and the wasabi was the perfect texture. Their chef must be cooking with lots of love, because everything was absolutely perfect! The bulgogi was incredibly tender and the bibimbap was very flavorful. The egg and spicy sauce were nice additions! All in all, this was a phenomenal meal and I am looking forward to returning the next time I am in Farmington. Bravo, Mangetsu!
Always my favorite go to since opening.. when I'm hungry, happy or sad, sick...it just makes me feel better. Mangetsu Ramen and sometimes with a side of tan tan meat added. The best broth I've ever had 100% I crave this place and order from them about 3x a month. I like the sushi, the salads too, but ramen is my favorite here
The FARMINGTON roll. The sushi is amazing here. The ramen even better. My favorite things to eat here are the tan tan noodles (VERY spicy), and the Don Katsu. Love this place.
Since my last review, I'm happy to say that this is my favorite ramen place in the Valley. The broth is uniformly delicious with good portions and without being too salty. But the bento boxes are also terrific too with lots of salmon or chicken and more sides than you can count. Don't miss the tempura dumplings. Love them. Service is friendly and quick too. A winner all around. read more

This was to review my recent order from them, takeout sushi while during the Covid 19 Pandemic. Had a craving for sushi while at work and a coworker never had their ramen. Suggested them and their ramen from a couple orders before but this time just wanted a side to add to my small lunch. I was told by my coworker that they took longer than usual eating into his 30 min lunch and bringing back my sushi. The sushi came back squished which I'm unsure if it was my coworker or how everything was packaged which smeared my sauce for my eel roll on the lid which made me a little sad. Because of it being squished I wasn't able to enjoy all the flavors seperatly on my palate. They didn't include chopsticks which is always necessary for sushi. I can imagine it's just due to the stress of manuvering thru this Pandemic one day at a time. Still a local spot that I'll head to for some good ramen and I'll have to try their sushi again in the restaurant. read more
We always seem to end up at an Asian restaurant on Christmas Day, and Christmas 2019 was no exception. We were warmly greeted as we walked in, and grabbed a table across from the sushi bar. Service was excellent, our server and the cook we interacted with were super friendly and very helpful. They have a pretty broad menu featuring Hot Pot entrees (winter only), a dozen appetizers, seven salads including a rarely seen potato salad (!), all sorts of sushi and sashimi, Poke, ramen, Bento Boxes, Korean entrees, and noodle/rice dishes. We ordered a Bento Box and a Noodle dish. The Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box ($15) included a cup of miso soup, chicken teriyaki chunks with broccoli, 8 pieces of sushi, 2 pieces of tempura vegetables, a spring roll, a few daikon radish slices, and a scoop of potato salad over greens. Yeah, you read that correctly, potato salad was included in the bento box, instead of the obligatory scoop of rice. Ever see that before? We hadn't. The chicken was very good- nice and tender and very flavorful -and there was a lot of it! You got a lot for $15. The Tan Tan Noodles ($11) were a beauty of a dish - pan fried ramen noodles, bok choy, scallions, bean sprouts and minced pork. It was listed on the menu with three "hot" icons, so I definitely expected it to be hot and spicy. When the chef was handed my order by our server, he spoke to her in Japanese, and she warned me "you know this is very spicy, right"? I gave the chef a thumbs up and he smiled at me and got busy cooking. Now I took this as a good sign, because whenever that question is asked of me, its a prelude to a fabulously spicy dish coming out of the kitchen. Yes, I love hot and spicy, but more often than not I've been disappointed by food being falsely billed as hot and spicy. But that didn't happen today. The noodles were wonderful -pretty damned hot without being nuclear. But the dish was more than heat, it included a super flavorful sauce, plenty of crunchy bok choy, and a lot of minced pork. Pure and simple, I LOVED this dish. We had a very enjoyable meal in a very nice restaurant, served by very nice people. Not a bad way to spend a holiday afternoon. read more
It's nice having a solid ramen and Korean option in the area. Strengths: *Outstanding kimchee pancake- crispy on outside, soft on the inside *Ramen is very good. The Mangetsu ramen consists of Tonkotsu, pork bone broth with noodle, chashu, memma, egg, mushroom, and ginger. *Vegetable ramen is chock full of vegetables *Tempura ice cream will satisfy your sweet tooth; it comes with mochee as well *Excellent service (our waitress, Amy, was very attentive, even though she was the only server in a very busy dining room) Weaknesses: *Ramen broth is good, but not as deep or complex as some of the best ramen shops we've visited around the country *Our takeout sushi experience fell short of expectations (we're still searching for top-notch sushi in the Hartford region) All in all, a solid local option for plentiful ramen and excellent Korean, but skip the sushi for now. read more

I really wanted to give this place five stars however there was a few small Misses for me... let's start off with a good: 1. army stew also known as budae jjigae was amazing!!! very heart great flavors.. I would so eat this again!! 2. The seafood pancake was the best pancake I've ever eaten. It was thick almost like a personal pan pizza loaded with lots of seafood. I could come back here just for this. The bento box was very good also... the pork charsu was delicious and tender... everything in the vent box was done very well. 3. My brother-in-law got the chicken Katsu even though I didn't get a chance to try it. He was very very happy with his meal. He said everything tasted great. Now for the not so good 1. Ordered the spicy edamame, which seem to be edamame with spicy salt, but unfortunately, this was very salty. I even had to add a couple ice cubes into the bowl of edamame just to get some of the saltiness off of it. 2. I had to use the bathroom while I was there. One of the only workers was using the bathroom before me as she came out she still had her apron on .. as somebody in the food industry. This is a big no-no, especially if you have nowhere to hang it inside of the bathroom. 3. had two waitresses first one was great, super friendly. The second one which unfortunately was the the same one that brought her apron into the bathroom seemed like she was miserable to be there had to call her to our table a couple times and it was like it was more of an inconvenience be mindful we were the only ones there eating.. All in all, I would eat here again because the food itself was so good and the prices were very reasonable. Hopefully they correct the small issues... I'll gladly write a review in indicating a better experience. read more
We were doing takeout so decided not to get the raved about ramen (i feel ramen experiences are better on site). We were told the online order would take 30 minutes so we showed up in 36 minutes and our food was sitting on the counter ready to be whisked away. We all inhaled our containers so we were either super hungry or the food was good - honestly it was a combination of both ;-) but I'd give this place another go if i we are ever in the area. read more
Seems the ramen are the best thing here. I went for the tan tan ramen. It was excellent. Ramen was very spicy and super flavorful. Definitely go for a ramen. Spicy kara age was a good appetizer. It was nice and flavorful. Not as spicy as I expected. I also went for a katsu don. It was ok. Not much of spicy though. Take out was nicely packed with all the required utensils. read more

A decent and cozy spot in Southington, you get a great deal with their ramen combo. I ordered the Miso pork ramen combo with gyoza and a pork belly bun. Ramen: 4/5 - broth had good flavor but was a little too salty. Noodles were a good texture, overall decent. Gyoza: 4/5 - I think the main thing is that it's overall a great value and you get a lot of different things with this combo. The dumplings are pretty standard, adds a nice element to your meal, but overall nothing too memorable. Pork Belly bun: 3/5 - so-so, again nothing too memorable. Overall, recommend the place it's quick service and the food prices are very reasonable for what you get. I've never seen it that busy, and you can park in the lot one block away or there may be street parking. read more
A hidden gem. Discovered this place when I started shopping at Highland Park Market. They have great Bento boxes and the rolls are delicious, especially the sweet potato one. While we usually do takeout, dining in is quick and tasty. read more
Had an excellent sushi dinner at Mangetsu. I sat right at the sushi bar and could watch everything being prepared. Quick and delicious. There were many to-go orders and as I sat there, people started filling in for dinner. I believe that this place is fairly new. I happen to be down the street, so I'll be back for sure. read more

My Goodness, what a difference!! The Ramen place previously occupying the space could not hold a candle to Mangetsu! Finally Ramen with a correctly cooked egg! And a piece of Pork belly that was mouth watering! Everything was spot on the hostess/Waitress was so nice, helpful, accommodating and friendly! The chefs greet you 100% of the time and thank you as well at the conclusion of the meal! Wishing them the greatest success and longevity! read more
This is a fairly new in the area, still seeing the opening flag on the outside. The menu is updated with new pricing. I tried their signature chatsu ramen, it was delicious. Belly meat pork alone were tender and flavorful, five of them in the soup. The soup was also tasty when warm, it would gradually its flavor overtime though, especially turn cold. I also would have to avoid adding ginger and so many green onions next time for the ramen. The noodle itself was not my type. Overall it's a good experience, the place is close to the hotel I usually stay, so expect to be back next time in town. read more

Went here after seeing a movie at Plainville AMC and was a great stop, quick service and large menu. The noodles came with so much seafood and it tasted delicious. Not pictured, but the rolls here were also very large portions and tasted great. Ramen was also super tasty. This restaurant also has a large drink menu with Japanese soda. read more

I have been here several times, all of which when I was pregnant. I absolutely LOVE the options for Ramen and other items. We always get the tofu app to start, it sits in a delicious broth that you could basically drink lol. I had to tweak some of the ramen bowls because I was unable to have some items. There are add one you can do as well. Let me tell you the bowls are huge and the broth is amazinggg. You don't want to miss out. I have also dove bulgogi bento box! This place is bomb. Service was awesome and on point. Cups were never empty but she didn't hover too much either. The food was delicious. We started with the spicy Kani salad and the spicy edamame. Both delish but not spicy. Could have used more heat. The we tried the mangetsu roll which was 10/10 and we got ramen both also 10/10. Mangetsu ramen and Tan tan ramen. The tan tan ramen was spicy but they adjust the heat to your liking. Flavor wise both were great. We will def be back to try more of their delicious Korean dishes. read more
