I ordered raviola takeout for a treat for dinner. I received 7 pieces of mushroom ravioli and 2 inches of bread. I paid $23. it was not enough to fill a 3 year old child. I felt robbed. Lovely little courtyard, and friendly attentive staff. Unfortunately my pasta needed a lot of salt and pepper to be ok. Almost no tenderloin in it, and overcooked at that. Other's dishes were ok, but certainly not dazzling. The portions were tiny. Appetizers though tasty were barely a bite each (2 split between 4). The focaccia served to the table was enough for one, the biscotti afterwards microscopic, and the pasta portion about 2/3 what it should be. We left hungry, and a bit disappointed, after paying a hefty bill. I won't be headed back. read more

We have frequently dined at Mangia E Bevi and have introduced many family members and friends to this fine restaurant. In all the years that we have dined here we have never been disappointed. Last evening was no exception. We had a lovely table on the patio and we had to good fortune to have Gordon as our server. Gordon was very professional but he has a genuine warmth that puts you at ease. He also has a dry sense of humour that we really appreciated. We never had to top up our wine glasses at all during the evening. Conversation with Gordon was very easy but he was never intrusive. I must say in all fairness that we've never experienced poor or even just average service at Mangia E Bevi but have always felt like very welcome guests. The food is amazing as usual. Focaccia bread accompanied by olive oil and vinegar was brought to the table while we perused the menu. Gordon gave us a very good description of the evening specials. We ordered one of our favorite pastas - spaghetti Mangia E. Bevi - spaghetti with minced chicken, black beans and chili. It is not on the regular menu but you can order it on request. It is wonderful. Not like your usual pastas. We ordered a bottle of white wine to have with our meal. For entrees my husband had the Cornish game hen. It was a perfectly cooked hen, moist and flavourful and served with roast potatoes and vegetables. I ordered the tenderloin, rare and it was perfectly cooked. The steak came with warm mushroom salad, scalloped potatoes and spinach. All of the food was delicious and reasonably priced for the quality. It was another wonderful evening at Mangia E Bevi with wonderful warm service from Gordon, delicious food from the kitchen, a lovely ambiance sitting on the patio on a warm summer's evening and reasonable prices. It doesn't get any better than this. Covid protocols were well adhered to. There was hand sanitizer on the entrance table and the tables were well spaced apart. read more

The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance and is very welcoming. The staff were very pleasant and helpful when choosing from the dinner menu. My husband had the veal scaloppine marsala, which he pronounced as the best he has ever eaten. The tagliolini tartufae that accompanied it was delicious, rich and creamy. Highly recommend this place! We have driven past it sooo many times over the years and finally I thought why don't we go here for my birthday. It was a last minute choice because I had booked Cardero's but we decided that we did not want to sit in traffic. This place is a taste of Italy for sure. Ken went above and beyond to make sure our experience was really good. He even sang me happy birthday which was a nice treat too. Right now they have a pasta special from Sunday's to Thursday's for $15 until the end of March. I have a feeling we may need to squeeze another session because can't go wrong! read more

My favorite meal in West Vancouver since moving from Toronto three years ago. I was losing faith in West Van as a destination for food but Mangia has reinvigorated my search for culinary goodness on the north shore. The service is attentive and not too pushy, the bread warm and fresh served with the standard balsamic and olive oil. We had three courses with everything cooked well and to standard. We are not your typical West Vancouver restaurant clients, so when we received a gift certificate for Mangia e Bevi we were not sure if it would be entirely up our alley. It seemed fancy and special, though, so we made a reso for Valentine's Day and thought we'd give it a go. What a pleasant surprise! We were treated like we were the only table in the bustling restaurant by our fabulous waitress, Tara, and we couldn't decide which delicious thing we enjoyed the most... the salad? The volauvent? The wine? The pasta Tara had recommended that wasn't listed on the menu?? We felt like a million bucks and had a fabulous time. Here's the kicker: We decided about 7 months later to have another special date night so we stopped in at Mangia e Bevi. They've recently had a change of menu so I can't say much about the current one, except that the cod we ordered last time was delicious. We discovered this place a few months ago and have now been there twice. It has quickly become our new favorite Italian restaurant in greater Vancouver. I was sad when Il Giardino di Umberto closed, but no more! Mangia e Bevi is a really fine place and deeply authentic. The service is absolutely top-notch-- warm, personal, attentive, and never cloying or disruptive of one's conversation. The food is delightful-- light, wholesome, flavorful, digestible. I had the unique Calamari Mangia e Bevi and Spaghetti Deliziozi and a side of grilled vegetables. The espresso was very good, as was the selection of wines by the glass. The outdoor Terrance seating is like a typical real ristorante in Italia. The street noise is a little high sometimes, but then again, it is in Rome too! Highly recommended! read more

If I could go out for dinner without the kids more often, this is where I'd always go. It is now my favourite WV restaurant. It's cozy and the staff are so kind to us. It has a great neighbourhood feel to it. It is fine dining without being too expensive. I've always enjoyed my meal. The starting bread is wonderful too. Sometime when we bring out youngest child with us, they quickly make plain pasta for him and don't make us stick to the menu. After our second dining experience in this lovely Italian restaurant, I felt I should write a review of our experiences. I'll keep it simple. The food is superior, both times, in flavour, freshness, presentation and value. We especially love the chef's pasta specials and the rack of lamb is to die for. My dining partner had it both visits and not only was the serving of lamb very generous it was cooked to perfection! Another wonderful dish that has become a favourite is the calamari steak. Also, a very generous portion, and seasoned perfectly. I was really wanting to begin my meal with a bowl of stracciatella and was disappointed it was not on the menu. However, our very solicitous server insisted on checking to see if the chef could accommodate me - and he did - and it was delicious! I am so sorry I forgot to get our server's name. She was remarkable, very friendly, accomodating, and totally aware of our privacy and so never intrusive or hurried. The wait staff is so important to providing a positive dining experience and Mangi e Bevi you have a gem in her. We dined Friday, Oct 16th so I am sure you will know of whom I am speaking. Location: Beautiful restaurant just a block away from the ocean, and the restaurant has a HUGE patio!! Food: Amazing italian food, very delicious...They have everything from mussels, bruschetta, to Beef Carpaccio, Beef Tenderlion and several kinds of fish. Looking for something spicy? Ask for the Spaghetti Bevi. Yummm...Spicy Spaghetti, with black Beans, ground chicken, spicy peppers and EVOO. Something different? Try a cornish game hen, they debone the hen and it is so flavourful. There isn't much for me to say on this one - I love it so much I wish I could just post unintelligible noises of contentment in a .wav file as a review. This is my favourite restaurant and, even if I didn't live across the street, I would drive to visit. You have me, Mangia. Body and soul. The food is immaculate. The kind of good that resonates with near aggression I could only convey by shaking people in excitement. I don't have much of a taste for Italian food - I generally find the recipes too bland and carb-y for my Mediterranean palate - but Mangia surprised me and took Italian closer to that flavour profile. I've yet to have a meal that was not cooked to perfection or filled with incomparable flavour. The gorgeous lamb will melt in your mouth. The truffle ravioli was the most decadent, savoury and gorgeous pasta I've ever had. I talked about it for weeks following a Valentines' meal. Carpaccio, an appetizer I'm usually not very keen on, was so fresh and flavourful I was sad to clear my plate. The desserts follow in suit - flavour. rich, decadent, flavour. I'm not a dessert person and I never skip it here. Which is an extra feat considering, while restaurants of this calibre leave you a little hungry, Mangia serves full, real people sized, plates of food. I'm full but I'm going to eat that mousse regardless. The worst you could say about Mangia is the decor needs an update and the coziness borders on cramped. But I don't care. I'd eat beside a dumpster for that ravioli. Service is attentive and smiley. A lot of laughter and charm, quick to recommend (and well at that) items if you ask but also very good at blending into the background and allowing the romantic ambiance to take over, filling wine glasses silently. We shared two salads: the caprese di bufala which was great as they used heirloom tomatoes and the high quality fresh buffalo mozzarella. I wonder where they source that from? The other was the bietola e burrata. That wasn't as good as the other one but the cheese, the burrata was also amazing! We shared a couple of desserts: a tiramisu of course and a followed the server's recommendation for the other: The tiramisu was excellent. Came for the mid week pasta deal and wasn't such a deal. Very bland meal for each of us who ordered different dishes. I had a spicy prawn pasta with maybe 2 prawns and no spice. Have never been met with such hostility. We were looking for a place to eat for dinner. I looked up reviews on Yelp, and it was highly rated. Since we didn't have any reservations, we were told that they were fully booked. The patio had about 6 empty tables! My partner and I walked away and vowed never to return, just from the reception we received. We felt highly offended. It was quite rude,hostile and snobbish. One Friday evening when I was in Vancouver, BC, for the 2010 Winter Games I decided to treat myself to a quality meal after work. Up to that point I had been living off of sandwiches from Whole Foods. I looked up Italian restaurants on the Web and came across a place called Mangia E Bevi Ristorante (which means eat and drink). When I arrived there I quickly realized by the crowd that I needed a reservation - it is apparently a popular upscale eatery. Doug Grisdale, one of the owners, greeted me with a smile when I walked in and told me not to worry. He graciously offered me a seat at the small bar by the kitchen. I could have easily felt awkward eating alone at the bar, but the staff were kind and made me feel very welcome as if I were family. The first thing they brought me was a basket of Italian bread hot out of the oven. It was so good I didn't even use butter! The menu contained a lot of seafood infused dishes which wasn't surprising considering seafood is a specialty of the area. The price range was $8 for an appetizer to $35 for a dinner. My seat was near the kitchen so I checked out many of the dishes as they came out -- they all looked scrumptious. The portions were generous but not obnoxious. I ordered a pasta dish called Spaghetti Deliziosi which was spaghetti with pesto, grilled asparagus, dried tomatoes, goat cheese, walnuts and toasted pine nuts...a slightly risky move for someone with my finicky taste. It was the best pasta dish I had ever eaten, which is a strong statement since I'm Italian and I've eaten many pasta meals in my life. I ended my visit with a traditional cannoli that was equally as tasty. If you're ever in the West Vancouver area I highly recommend eating at Mangia E Bevi Ristorante. read more
