Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Food: 5/5 Came here with a group of five to celebrate a birthday and overall had a really great experience. Elio Volpe feels like one of those neighborhood spots you'd want to come back to again and again. The decor is beautiful - elevated but still casual. It's definitely hip without trying too hard or feeling snooty, which I appreciated. The space felt warm and welcoming. The only downside was the lighting; a bit dark in some areas, which made it slightly harder to see the food (and your dining companions). Our table wasn't ready right at our reservation time, but we were seated within about five minutes, so not a big deal. The table was originally meant for four and we were five, so things felt a bit snug. I had noted in the reservation that it was for a birthday, but it wasn't acknowledged. That said, our server Simon was great - friendly, prompt, and everything came out at a good pace without feeling rushed. This is really where Elio Volpe shines. We started with the Buffalo mozzarella appy that was on special - generous cheese portion and really delicious, though I wouldn't have minded a bit more bread. The broccolini side was also super tasty and nicely seasoned. For mains, we ordered three pizzas and two pastas. Pizzas: Margherita, Hot Honey Pepperoni, and Soppressata with Serrano and pineapple. All were excellent with crispy, thin crusts. I'm a Margherita loyalist and that one was easily my favourite. Pastas: Calabreselli alla vodka and Rigatoni cacio e pepe. Both were fantastic. The cacio e pepe isn't totally traditional - they add jalapeño - but the little kick really works. The vodka sauce paired perfectly with the creamy cacio e pepe. Overall, I'd absolutely come back and would recommend adding Elio Volpe to your list if you haven't been yet

As a big fan of Savio Volpe I was excited to give this place a try. I've been on 2 occasions and definitely enjoyed going with a bigger group (6 people) as opposed to just 2 as the items are meant for sharing family style. As a group of 6, we opted to order our own instead of the tasting menu. We got 1 appy, 3 pastas, 2 pizzas, 2 vegetables, 3 meats and 2 desserts. Sounds like a lot of food and we could have done with just 1 pizza but 2 of the meats were scallops and each came with 3 scallops with hardly anything else so it was rather small. We all got drinks and the total was comparable to the tasting menu. The food was very good. I would get the pastas and the steak again. The service was attentive and I appreciated the choice of sparking or still water.

After trying Savio Volpe and having a great experience, I had to give Elio Volpe a try and was pleasantly surprised. Started with the arancini which was so crispy. Followed by the rigatoni and calabreselli, manila clam pizza, and roasted mushroom pizza. Delicious and can't wait to come back!

I liked the restaurant's ambiance. It felt very open and yet intimate. Our e server was attentive. We ordered the below and it fed 5 people. Rigatoni Cacio E Pepe 10 Year Cheddar Roasted Jalapeno Spaghetti, frutti di mare, sundried tomato pesto, pine nuts Potato gnocchi, white asparagus, english pea, favas, morel mushroom ragu, pecorino tartufo Manila clam, guanciale, sweet corn, salsa bianco, parsley pizza Roasted mushroom, salsa bianca, parsley salsa verde pizza Wagyu sirloin cap, hakurei turnip, herb garlic butter, fennel pollen Grilled fioretto, parsley, lemon, pine nut vinaigrette Tiramisu Cheesecake Both the rigatoni and the spaghetti were good, but the rigatoni was a bit on the salty side. I personally found the potato gnocchi a bit doughy for my liking. The pizzas were both good, but the clam was quite unique. I don't think I have ever had clams on my pizza before and this did not disappoint. The wagyu was so good. I'll admit it's been a while since I last had steak, but this was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. I would have loved to order a second portion of this dish if I wasn't already so full. The tiramisu cheesecake was better than I expected it would be, but I am not a huge fan of tiramisu, so I wouldn't order it again unless someone else at the table wanted to share.

Excellent tasting meal. We came here for a birthday dinner and they had a birthday card with a surprise icecream at the end. The waitress knew we had plans after dinner and made an effort to bring food out seamlessly without extra wait time. Will be coming back to try more!

You do need to book this place ahead of time and there is a no show fee of $25 per person if you don't cancel on time! The decor is modern yet nostalgic at the same time. We sat with a view of the kitchen which I love as you get to see all the action! The food is high quality and fresh and you can tell they love what they do and do it with care from the service to the presentation. We shared a mushroom eggs Benny which was very well presented and perfectly cooked. We also shared the French toast which I highly recommend as it comes with a scoop of homemade gelato!! Yummy! The coffee is also very good. Prices are a little higher than most other places but that's part of the quality of food and service and unique dishes you won't find elsewhere.

This restaurant served up a solid meal, but nothing that left a lasting impression. The food was delicious and the ingredients tasted fresh, which we appreciated, and the option to order half portions of pasta was a nice touch. That said, the flavours were pretty standard and didn't stand out in any meaningful way. It felt like the kind of food you could get at countless Italian spots across Vancouver. The seating was tight, clearly arranged to pack in as many diners as possible, which made the space feel a bit cramped. Service was friendly, which helped the overall experience, but the prices were definitely on the higher end for what was delivered. All in all, it's a decent place if you're nearby and craving pasta, but you're paying a premium for something pretty ordinary. Some paid street parking.

My first brunch experience at Elio and it was so good!! Ambiance is always nice, beautiful restaurant, great for dates with the man or the girlies, the space was nice and bright during the daytime. Service was good as well. I loved the chicken and waffles, and the pasta was a special not a menu item but had so much seafood in it. Also the potatoes in the beef brisket were SO good. Highly recommend

I prefer Elio over their sister restaurant Savio. I love the cocktails here and service. They're very attentive and check in just enough. My favourite is the vodka pasta. I love that you can get half portions to try different ones.

it's my ride or die's bday weekend so when s asked for availability, i def made myself open s chose this wonderful restaurant that was on her list for a while; it was also on my list too so two birds, one stone. the restaurant is very modern and was actually bigger than i thought. i loved the open kitchen and bar concept. we were seated in a booth, which was cozy and we didn't rly need to shout to talk to one another. our server was awesome as well - she asked if this was our first time and for the 3 of us, it was. she goes on to explain that all the dishes are family style, which means they're shareable so that's good for groups! i ordered 2 drinks - elio sour and apertivo del nonno - both were equally good. i had a sip of bestie's lambrusco spritz - loved the lambrusco and fizziness! we ordered 1 appy, 3 mains (with 1 side) and ofc, dessert! i wasn't rly paying attn until we go to ordering another main so thank god for photos and online menus DEF GET THE BACCALÀ MANTECALO!!!! the house made lingcod dip was sooooo good - the dill, the lemon pepper and the chips! it was the perfect combo - the lemon pepper adds a kick to the dish so that it's not too heavy. our group absolutely loved this and ate it soooo quickly the 3 mains that we had (and in order of delishness): whole branzino, pepperone pizza and calabreselli alla vodka. the whole branzino was fresh, flaky and full of charred flavour. the skin was the perfect crisp and the added touch of lemon made the fish a little fresher. the hot honey on the pepperone pizza as well as the tomato sauce will make your head turn - this is not your typical pepperoni pizza! with that said, the pasta came around the same times as the pizza and the tartness of the pizza tomato sauce made the calabreselli a little lacking. not bad just a little lacking in comparison. we got the fried brussel sprouts as a side - the vinaigrette helped to cut the carb coma that we were all in by this point. pls note that you get a scoop of gelato with chocolate and sprinkles on the house if you're the bday girl - so take note when you order dessert. we did a boo-boo so we had 2 scoops of gelato AND the tiramisu cheesecake to share. the straciatella gelato was amazing - one of my go-to flavours - i always love the crunch/crisp of the chocolate flakes. the tiramisu cheesecake was light and not too sweet we had an amazing time here - want to come back for brunch!

After coming back to Vancouver, I finally tried Osteria Volpe, a sister restaurant from one of my fav Italian restaurant, Savio Polpe. Very similar in ambiance while providing more spaces between the tables, which I appreciated. Service was friendly and they were very knowledgeable. We ordered three dishes: 1. Parker Rolls ($13) with pecorino and sesame. Couldn't really taste the pecorino. Bread was nicely warm but it was so-so for me 2. Spaghetti Vongole ($25). Despite being known for their pasta, I found this dish underwhelming and bland. Maybe we should have ordered the vodka pasta instead? 3. Pizza of the Day ($30). By far the best dish, and that's coming from a non pizza person. Love the dough and how thin it was, plus toppings include favourites like vodka sauce and burrata. Cocktails were quite good and they have a lot of options available. All in all, I still prefer Savio Polpe, though I might come back for their brunch.

Came on a Tuesday night and was seated immediately. Service was on point, no nonsense but extremely accommodating. We had come to celebrate our friends' engagement and were pleasantly surprised to have a sip of Prosecco (on the house) as a congratulatory drink! Nice touch. The food was good. Although we were extremely excited for all their pasta, what really stood out to us were the antipasti and the pizza. The shrimp carpaccio was so good, I would've licked the plate clean. Definitely will be back just for that dish. We had 4 pastas (full size) and were convinced to try a pizza and I was so glad we did. Elio Volpe took thin crust to a different level and could take the cake for best thin crust in the city! It was light, crispy, the tomato sauce with the added burrata was perfect! 100% will be back for date night to try more of their antipasti and have several more pizzas! Great experience, worth the hype!

The entrance is completely unmarked, with darkened windows and no signage; you literally have to decide whether to push or pull your way into the gloom, which fits the "thief" theme perfectly once you step inside. Inside, the space leans into a **chic** speakeasy ambience, only slightly undercut by 90s chillout tunes that are a touch loud but still on-brand for a laid-back late-night hideout. The food is where things really land. Frog legs arrive as the star curiosity and end up tasting strikingly familiar--so much so they echo the famed chicken wings from Anh and Chi in both comfort and flavour. The beef tartare is properly seasoned and genuinely delicious, rich but balanced enough that it never feels heavy. Ox tail is a unique inclusion on the menu and it follows through, offering deep, slow-cooked flavour that stands out even among the stronger dishes. Duck breast is cooked to a textbook pink, tender and juicy, an easy "order again" plate. Dessert keeps the momentum going. An oolong peach creation acts as the perfect finishing touch: fragrant, slightly floral, and just sweet enough to close the meal without tipping into cloying territory. Service and atmosphere reinforce the sense of a discreet drinking den--this is the place you duck into for a properly made drink and a series of small plates, not a high-traffic scene bar. With nothing to complain about--from food to vibe--The Good Thief feels like a well-executed concept: a hidden, unmarked bolthole where you slip in from the dark, linger over excellent plates, and slip back out just as quietly.

We had the best time at Odd Society, and I am still smiling two days later. Initially perplexed,…read moresince our Uber dropped us off one block away, we had no idea where we were in the dark of the Canadian night. Surrounded by warehouses, did the driver want us to experience a "call of the wild?" However, Odd Society beckoned one block from the corner, and two seats were available at the strange bar. Strange because our view was blocked by a kind of ersatz plastic and wood wagon wheel blocking our view of the servers and bar. It was reminiscent of Utah's Zion Curtain. Later, I was told it was part of Odd Society's Covid protection and helped the bartenders stack things up. Okay, fine, but tear the damn things down. They're obnoxious. Odd Society creates an array of liquors made from ingredients sourced locally by law. It's required by their license. I tried almost all of them, and most were fantastic. Abby and Colin, our servers, were charming, fun, and educational, answering my questions, which became increasingly inane as the alcohol took effect. The distillery also mixes fantastic cocktails, and mine, named Midori, was friggen unbelievable. I had two of them along with my liquor tasting. My Midori was made with a special concoction called Portuguese Sweet Milk, or something like that. It was amazing. I want one for breakfast. The fun kept coming, and I didn't want to leave. Alas, we had reservations at Lunch Lady up the street. We should have stayed at Odd Society. Lunch Lady was a disappointment. Try Odd Society out as both a distillery and cocktail bar. You won't be disappointed about either one.

In summary, the place was ok, but noticed after the fact that we were overcharged for the drinks. It's a small space - about 3 high tables, one lower one, each seating 4 to maybe at most 5 people, plus a bar. I reserved a table for the 2 of us at 3:30 pm on a Sunday (earliest reservation they had as they open at 3 pm) and we were seated at 3 pm. They checked our vaccine passports and then seated us. Not long after we were seated, the remaining tables were all taken just after opening for 30 minutes so I would recommend reserving if you prefer tables over bar seating. The waitress brought over a drinks menu and food menu. The menu showed cocktails at $13. We chose our drinks and ordered, then the waitress came by with a second menu that she said was for Sunday only. She apologized and said she normally doesn't work Sunday's so she didn't know this promotional menu was available. This menu had some cocktails on promotion that I would have not minded to try, but I had already received my cocktail. Oh well. I had the Violet and Claire, which looked great and tasted pretty good for the first half. However by the second half of the drink, it started to taste too sweet. It was not bad for a cocktail, overall. My friend said the Smoke Between the Sheets cocktail was alright as well. We got our bills quickly as we had a second place to visit afterwards. After paying, I snapped a picture of the bill at the time but did not notice until I got home that to my surprise, each cocktail was listed on the bill at $14.95. I recalled their physical menu saying $13, and verified this with their menu online. Unfortunately, I did not notice the discrepancy until I was home, otherwise I would have mentioned something. Note that our visit was at the end of November 2021, and at the time I'm writing this review (December 26, 2021), their online menu still has cocktail prices at $13. So, I am not sure if this was a one time mistake when we paid, or if they have just forgotten to update their menu? Either way, this was disappointing. Because of the entire experience I probably won't visit again, especially with all the other options Vancouver has for cocktails.

I have seen a lot of good reviews about this place and convinced our party of 8 to come try it…read moresince it's in our neighborhood and we have been looking for a new local Greek restaurant since Panos on Marine Drive closed down. Sadly, we were sooooo disappointed! We came on a Saturday evening at peak time, around 6:30pm, so granted, we expected it to be busy. We were sat nearly right away in comfortable booths with tables. The waitress brought us menus and water. So far so good! We ordered our food, nothing crazy, several got the special of the night, lamb souvlaki with potatoes rice and pita. A couple ordered the seafood pasta, one asked for red sauce instead of cream sauce and two asked for veggie lasagna's but they only had one order available. When we asked about the beers on menu, we were told each one was unavailable except for Heineken and the seasonal beer. When we asked what it was, she didn't know. She then brought the can of beer over and said she wasn't sure what type it was. Fair enough! She was young, seemed new and not quite trained with alcohol so no big deal. It gave us a giggle. It was a Granville Island radler btw. I ordered a Heineken and my friend ordered the yummy sounding spicy passionfruit margarita. My beer came fairly quick but no margarita. Then the young waitress came out to say that our food would take a bit longer to come out since they were a bit slammed with orders and asked if we wanted any appetizers. We decided we'd be ok, and decided to wait. One hour later!!!!! I'm not joking, one hour later, the margarita drink came out. Again, we noticed very young and probably newly hired staff attempting to make drinks. When this $19 drink came out, it looked like the rim of salt was touched with fingers and a lot of it was missing. However, my friend desperate for a drink or morsel of anything, decided to just have it as it came. She said it was delicious and the best thing she had. One hour and a half later!!! Our food came out. My medium rare lamb was cooked through and the pasta with red sauce came out with a cream sauce, but there was NO way we were going to send anything back as we were pretty hangry at this point. The potatoes were delicious, the rice extremely plain. All 8 of us agreed that for the price, service and quality of food, we would not be returning, although my friend said if the passionfruit drink was on the happy hour menu, she would consider it. All in all, very disappointed.

I ate at two other tasting menu spots while I was here and this place was a clear winner. It's a one Michelin star restaurant and absolutely lives up to the hype. We did the tasting menu and every single course was delicious. There were a lot of flavor combinations I'd never had before, and the presentation was on point. They took the time to explain each dish, which I really appreciated. The chef clearly focuses on seasonality and local ingredients, so the menu changes by season. This tasting menu was themed around "Preservation," which made the experience even more interesting. The ambiance was top notch. The space felt warm, intimate, and thoughtfully designed, which really elevated the whole experience without feeling stuffy or overdone. The pacing was perfect, about two hours total, and I left very full and very happy. Can't wait to come back.

I didn't realize the restaurant did sushi platters and oysters - what a pleasant surprise! The oysters were delicious. For the sushi I've definitely had better, but was still impressed that the restaurant had this kind of platter available. Portions were really big and among the dishes, the miso cod was a big standout with great flavour and texture. I also enjoyed the matcha tiramisu dessert as it was not too sweet. The staff were very friendly and attentive to replenishing drinks. I believe some of the drinks were made specifically for the event so I'm not sure if any of the ones I had are on the regular menu. However, the drinks were delicious and the 'Ryujin' especially was my favourite one (the glass with dragonfruit garnished over top!) It was fruity, sweet, and deceivingly tasted like tropical juice. I would like to return to experience the restaurant on its own sometime. In the meantime, it's an excellent spot for private events!
