Since relocating to Metuchen, Mangia Toscano has become my go-to dinner spot. With a great diversity of every changing meal selections, the homemade feel of everything they make is amazing. The food is tasty, and with large portions. You can't go wrong with the pizza or sandwiches, but my favorite are the daily meal specials. Tonight I had stuffed green pepper with roasted cabbage. Last week I had Chicken Parmesan with broccoli and beets. Literally, of my 10-15 meals at this location, there hasn't been and item I haven't enjoyed. And by the way, the cheesecake is mind blowing. Everything I've tried has been amazing, from sandwiches (meatball sub), to the pizzas, flatbreads, and calzones, to the prepared dishes - lasagne... I have yet to try the pasta and sauces but they look delicious. The baked goods are also to die for.. one of the best cannoli I've had. The best part is the service - I always leave this place smiling. I've gotten delivery for a large group of 8+ people as well and everything was well packed, organized and delivered with the same happy smile and friendly service as in the restaurant itself. If only this place had come to Metuchen sooner. I'll be moving in a month, but I'll be sure to stop by here every time I come back for a visit. read more

Edoardo made amazing food for a 30 person party for my Mom: vegetable lasagne, lemon chicken, eggplant rollatini, bread. Everything was perfectly seasoned, generous and delicious!The lasagne was delicate-authentically made of a bechamel to die for and gorgeous vegetables. What little was left over, my family literally fought over to take home! The icing on the cake is the lovely and warm customer service. Excellent semolina bread- very flavorful. They make their breads fresh daily which is nice. Loved their fresh mozzarella and burrata. I didn't really like their pizza too much or their vodka sauce but everything else was great. If you go there on a Saturday, swing by the metuchen farmers market around the corner for some delicious olives. This place is top notch, fresh simple ingredients. Great bread, amazing soup and shop made fresh pasta dishes. Delicious salads & the best pizza for 50 miles. The owners and employees are really friendly and they are actually Italian! Not Italian American, not my cousin is married to an Italian, but actual Italians. The food is delicious, but had a disastrous pick up order. Ordered a burrata pie with eggplant added and a broccoli pie (which is supposed to have a bunch of other toppings according to their menu). Got home with the pies and realized they forgot the eggplant on the burrata pie and only put broccoli on the broccoli pie. Called to rectify the order, they promised a quick delivery of the right pies to make up for the mistake. almost an hour later someone shows up at our house with just one pie, the broccoli pie- and the one pie still doesn't have the right toppings. When we called again the woman who was taking the orders was nothing but nasty and unapologetic about the situation. Sometimes mistakes are made, we are all human, but when you are paying 60 bucks for pizzas, you expect that they are going to at least make an attempt to get your order close to what you are paying for. And if they promise to make right on a mistake, you expect for someone to actually rectify the problem. The food was good but not what we ordered and not worth the headache. read more

When I returned to NJ, after an amazing vacation in Italy, i could not go out to eat for a month, as nothing could compare to the food I ate in Florence. Then I stumbled upon Mangia Toscano and was thrilled to find authentic, top quality, high end restaurant caliber food, 5 mins from my office. I do not write reviews that often but was compelled to highly recommend this place. Amazing hot food specials that you won't find in a high priced fine dining restaurant, like vegetable lasagna made with an authentic bechemel sauce, a true Emilia Romania delicacy. Delicious panini, pizza, pasta and of course the best rice balls around...i have also used them for multiple catered events. My family and I recently traveled to Tuscany and haven't stopped longing for the food since we returned. When we heard about Mangia Toscano, where the chef/owners are from Tuscany, we couldn't wait to try the food. And oh my goodness we were blown away! We made a reservation for a Friday night at 6 and were glad to have gotten there earlier. It was pretty quiet at first but by 7 more and more people started arriving. Some of us had the restaurant week tasting menu others didn't, which was actually encouraged (pretty cool). Homemade pasta, fresh, delicious ingredients and beautiful presentation it was like being right back in Italy. And to top it all off the dessert was incredible! The panna cotta was better than the ones we had in Italy and the cremoso di ciocolate (chocolate cream bar with rosemary and salt) was out of this world!!! Honestly the best dessert I've ever eaten. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, helping to make recommendations and the manager/owner Ivan is super personable! This will be a regular spot for us no doubt. read more

Authentic Italian deli in downtown Metuchen. Some interesting menu items that you don't see at many other Italian-American places in this area. They have tough competition from the very good Fresco's a few doors down, but it seems to be its own type of thing, focusing more on meals than sandwiches/cold cuts. I had a meatball sandwich which was delicious, and my wife had the pizza which she also really enjoyed. Hope it's able to make it. Only complaint would be that the set-up of the store is a bit awkward to maneuver. read more

Excellent, and this was a first time visit. Definitely will return and there's a lovely catering menu. The seasoned chicken and brussel sprouts were out of this world. Flavorful and sooo delicious. The woman who waited on us was enjoyable to talk with, wonderful customer service. My friend had a wonderful smelling prosciutto type meat loaf. Overall a delightful Italian deli, dessert, pasta place. Good to have something available that is not fast food for lunch. read more

I bought 4 Italian rolls today - sign on the board on the side walk said fresh baked bread. Cost me $2 each. Never again. Outside was very hard. So hard in fact when you cut into it the crust fell off. Last time I go there. Wanted to give a Metuchen business a shot. Just should have got to the Buttery bake shop. Went here during their opening weekend. This is about as authentic as it gets....Everything is made in house.... Italian cooks making pizza and homemade bread in an enormous oven, Grandma serving homemade crepes Florentine, real Italian espresso. They were a bit disorganized but hopefully they'll work out the kinks. Will be back! read more

I wanted very much to support a local business, and I am reluctant to write a negative review, but my experience was poor. First, I bought a loaf of Tuscan bread--which cost a full ten dollars--and which they were unable to slice for me. The bread looked tasty: yellow and crusty--yet, truthfully, the bread had absolutely no taste at all; it might have been Wonderbread. I was astonished that bread from an Italian deli could be so entirely without merit. Second, I purchased some of the homemade vegetable ravioli--this was also ten dollars. I went to cook it, and the entire quart container had congealed into a massive lump of dough that could not be separated. I threw the ravioli away along with the bread. Twenty dollars down the drain. A friend of mine in town had the exact same experience with the bread--although when he complained about the extravagant price the store sold him a half-loaf for five dollars.
