As soon as I walked into the cafe with my Service Dog a customer/ got in my face and said there's a law against dogs in a restaurant in the state of Idaho. I looked at him and told him that the dog is my Service Dog and I walked right back out the door. Being harassed is the last thing anyone needs when they want to enjoy a meal at a local cafe. We will not be going back to this establishment. The young man who was delivering food was nice in asking about registration for the dog but it wasn't enough for us to stay and eat. Very cute little Cafe. Its a bit overwhelming to walk into because they were quite busy when my husband and i went in. It took a while to get our food but our waitess was awesome. I didn't catch her name but she was tall with long blonde hair!! The best service I've had in a while. I got the biscuits and gravy. The food here is amazing. It's one of the very few places to get good breakfast in this town. However, they won't let you place a to-go order. You can walk in to the restaurant and offer to pay for the order and they won't put it in a to-go box for you which is pretty bizarre. The restaurant itself is pretty small and there aren't always a lot of places to sit. I'm not sure why they made this rule but I'm guessing they're missing out on a lot of business this way. I was really excited to try the food here because I had heard good things from friends in town. The food turned out to be just ok. The sourdough pancakes were huge and delicious. The Benedict was lack luster. There was very little sauce on it. The hash browns were awful. They were soaked in oil and lacked any seasoning. My boyfriend had the ham and cheese omelet and it was decent. What was more disappointing than the flavor of the food was the service. I'm pretty sure that the name of our server was Juanita,but I could be wrong as she never introduced herself and I'm going off what I think one of the other employees called her. She took our orders and that's it. She ignored us after that, prefering to chat with her friends about how she did on bingo night. She actually left our food waiting in the window and another server had to bring it to us. This other server also took care of our drink refills also. The good is great, but the customer service sucks...always treated like I don't belong, never friendly...just what do you need so you can go. The one Caucasian man working in the kitchen stared me down and would pace in and out of the kitchen area whole I was there. It has the feel of a whites only eatablisment without the sign hung up. I know there is an African American working there as a cook so I am trying to not completely rule it out like a white only place...but the treatment is really rude, and with the stares and pacing it seemed like blacks are not welcome. To round out a night at Charlie's Place, one must obtain sufficient breakfast the next morning. The Manhattan Bistro is an excellent option for this task. I'm not from Mountain Home and I'm not sure how long it's been open, but after hearing my boyfriend's father (who is a resident) wax nostalgic about the full pound of beef they served him for a hamburger a few weeks ago I knew I had to try it. The vibe is pretty cool - it reminds me of a few of the bars and restaurants in Butte because it's in an historic building, as I discovered by reading the back of the menu. The breakfast bar is separated by about ten feet from the tables so you don't feel crowded and the restaurant goes back quite far into the building. Walls are exposed brick with some old (or old-looking but new and decorative) sheet rock in places and everything's a nice dark wood. The food servings are indeed huge and excellent and reasonably priced. The boyfriend was adventurous and tried the loco moco, which consisted of what appeared to be a massive half-pound burger, a couple of eggs, and a pile of hash browns covered in brown gravy. To my uneducated palate, I thought it tasted pretty great. He, however, has lived in Hawaii for five years and approved enthusiastically despite the use of hash browns rather than rice. My less-adventurous choice of eggs and toast was also excellent, for what that's worth. Drip coffee gets a 5/5, food that we tried gets a 5/5, menu diversity gets a 3/5 but they know what they're doing with what they serve, and the awkward bathroom right behind one of the tables where you can hear other customers talking while you're getting down to business gets a 3/5. A new non-chain breakfast option in Mountain Home? That's like a 7/5. Yaaay Mountain Home! In hopes that interstate traffic will visit, I'm giving it the big five stars because finding loco moco elsewhere is no easy task. read more

It's got a bit of a "Cheers" atmosphere, where everybody knows your name, but my wife and I were newbies and we rather enjoyed it. They put a TON of food on your plate.
