I loved this stop on our visit to the area. Small diner with delicious food. I got the burger and fries with ranch. It was so good and hit the spot. I also got a root beer float. Passing through, we found this burger place on Yelp and stopped for an early dinner. The staff was really friendly and their burgers were really good. I was especially excited about the tots. My son and I have developed a thing for diner food recently. The more retro and nostalgic, the better. This place is clean, pleasantly worn and dated. There is a ton of local railroad memorabilia. Honestly it is so perfectly old, it felt like a movie set because places that have frozen in this era of dining are going extinct rapidly. The service is very friendly. The food was excellent. It's not "fancy". I loved the parsley sprigs and orange slices for garnish. If you want something new and edgy, go elsewhere. If you want simple comfort food, this is your stop. I had the hot beef sandwich. The mashed potatoes are home made and very rich and creamy with little chunks of potato throughout. The bread was better than average white bread. The roast beef was house made, not deli meat. It was very savory and tender, but had a pleasant chew to it. The gravy was silky and savory. My son had the club sandwich, again, very fresh ingredients, meat, cheese and veggies piled high. He got a generous pile of fries with it which were crispy on the outside and tender. My husband had the liver and onions. It came with a nice sized slice of fried liver, beautiful grilled onions, two strips of crisp bacon and more of those lovely mashed potatoes. His salad was crisp iceberg with grape tomatoes, a very usual diner salad. But the blue cheese dressing was homemade and very good. We did not have dessert, but I have something to come back for as Shoshone is a sweet little town with tons of beautiful historic buildings. read more

This was a terrific dinner! We had breakfast burgers French Dip and the special. ALL were great! Big portions and everything tasted really good too. The Chocolate Malt was the best I've had in a long time. The fries were perfect! Crispy outside tender inside. The pickle chips on the side were great! The blue cheese dressing, which is house made, was out of this world. And to finish off the meal house made pies! Coconut Cream and Chocolate Mint..WOW! So good! The slowest lunch we have ever had. We stopped for lunch on a Sunday at 11:15 a.m, and walked out of there at 1:02 p.m. They were not busy, restaurant was very warm inside, mediocre food. Come on guys, you can do better. read more

Great little roadside diner in a cute little town! Named the "oldest cafe in Idaho" Wasn't expecting much but we love a "greasy spoon" when driving across country! Food was great! I highly recommend the homemade cinnamon roll! Eggs were cooked perfectly & the hash browns delish! Big menu with lots of favorites! There's a cute little thrift store right next door that's also a "must-see" great vintage/collectibles (make sure you check out downstairs) Across the street check out the old railroad depot & hotel where President Taft visited Shoshone in 1911. Had lunch here for the first time. I will be back. The Burger, Fries, and Pie option on the menu is a must. And if you're lucky, a Union Pacific freight train will pass by just a few yards away. They don't call it Rail Street for nothing. So make sure you grab the booth by the front window. read more

The Manhattan Cafe is like the kind of place my grandfathers used to take me to fifty years ago. Filling comfort food in a down home atmosphere that probably hasn't changed since the 1960s. This is truly a step back in time to a "white bread" era. If you don't enjoy well cooked meat with potatoes this isn't the place for you. I don't typically seek out this type of cuisine on a regular basis, but, on a road trip, I find it to be quite satisfying. As for the food, I'd give it a three star rating; it could have tasted more fresh. But the coffee was good and the blue cheese on the garden salad wasn't bad at all. I suppose I'd eat her again, but might try some of the other local places first as I don't go through Shoshone more than three or four times each year. read more

Stopped for late lunch and was very glad I did. Both my husband and I had a western burger special. A burger with cheese, bacon. , barbecue sauce, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion on a toasted bun. Fries or tater tots. Choice of soup, dinner salad or salad bar, plus a drink. All of this for $8+. I chose the tomato-rice soup. My husband had the salad bar. We were both happy with our choices. My only regret was we didn't share that so we would have had room for a piece of homemade pie or one of their yummy shakes. Our waitress had personality plus and was very attentive. Made a good meal a fun meal. Will definitely stop here again when we pass through. read more

There's a lot of lazy going on inside that café. We ordered a pancake and we wondered how can you go wrong with a pancake but the bottom was so tough you couldn't hardly cut it. I ordered curly fries with my hamburger and ended up getting a variety of fries that had been in the deep fat fryer obviously for several cooking's. The straws were too short for the large cups and the ice tea was old and watered down. The waitress was very sweet but if you're looking for nostalgic you'll definitely get that but quality is really lacking. read more

Decided to check this place out because the mural on the main highway said world famous Manhattan Cafe. If you need food, it'll do in a pinch I suppose. I got some kind of southwestern burger. It was a pretty cheap fluffy (airy) bun with a mediocre patty (think McDonalds), didn't feel worth the $10. I asked but didn't really get a good answer on why it's world famous either. read more

Stopped at this small town local diner on our way through town. It was just how you'd think a small town diner would look. We were able to seat ourselves. The menu had a lot of options and we were excited to see a long list of different types of pies. We ordered the Steak Salad, a steak and chicken dinner, a cinnamon roll, and both kids ordered the Dino nugget meal. The food took about 40 minutes to come out, which seemed like a long time to me since we were one of the only groups in the diner. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. We had ordered a cinnamon roll with dinner, and had to remind the server and ask for it about 10 times. When the cinnamon roll finally showed up we were disappointed to see it wasn't a cinnamon roll at all but instead a maple roll.... We tried to order some pie from the menu, the first five flavors we asked for weren't available so we gave up on that. I don't know that I would eat here again. read more

What a dump, but it'll do if your in a pinch. The dinner salad was a bowel of wilted lettuce with dressing, I couldn't eat it. The service of a cranky, old lady was terrible. With all the cattle around, they should be able to use a better grade of beef in their burgers. I definitely won't be back. read more

Great little restaurant. We read the yelp reviews and decided to give it a try- waitress came by immediately and was super friendly. The menu is actually pretty full of interesting options and breakfast was served all day. I got a cheeseburger and tots and my boyfriend got a breakfast plate with toast, sausage, eggs, and hash browns. We were both impressed with the speed our food was prepared and with how delicious it was. The portions were generous, and the coffee was good too. A group of us stopped in on a Sunday morning recently - and when I say a group, I mean 17 of us. Our waitress didn't stumble once. She not only kept everyone's coffee & water refilled before we even asked for it, she got every single order correct. Our food - it was out promptly and I think I can say everyone was satisfied. Yes, it's a typical diner with mostly typical diner food - but when the food came, it looked and tasted excellent. There were a few unique choices on the menu to get away from standard choices. Visited in the heat of this unusual summer (July 8). Not many customers, but the food was great and plentiful. The waitress was very helpful and kind. Perfection would have been if they had sunflower seeds and fresher lettuce in their salad bar, which was otherwise better than some of the chain restaurants in variety. The homemade croutons were a tasty surprise. These people know service, and have a great restaurant. I am so glad I stopped here on the way through town. read more
