There are very few New York style pizza places in Indianapolis, so when I saw this online, I decided to give it a try. It is definitely the New York style- pre-made pies are sitting in the window, you pick your slices and they throw them in the oven to heat up. The slices themselves were OK. They probably could've been heated a little bit longer to make the crust a little more crunchy, but they were decent. Two slices and a bottle of Coke for $12 wasn't a bad deal. (I hate getting bottled drinks in restaurants. I prefer a soda fountain.) I saw two employees and heard a third one in the back. Stopped by for lunch during the weekday to satisfy a pizza craving. This is a family owned pizza spot. Happy to report the restaurant is still clean and service is still fast and friendly. They do offer a lunch special, but I didn't get it this time around. I got the pepperoni breadsticks and a slice of the stuffed pizza. Once the order was placed it was heated in the oven. This is New York style pizza - giant thin crust slices with a dry crust that you fold in half to eat. You can buy pizza by the slice (roughly $3.50) or you can buy a whole pizza (roughly $20). The staff was really nice. I tried a meat lover's slice, buffalo chicken slice, and I forget what the side was called, but they were basically mini breadsticks stuffed with pepperoni and cheese. The mini breadsticks were great. The meat lover's was good, but it was undercooked. The toppings fell out of the bottom of the meat lover's pizza because it wasn't cooked long enough. The buffalo chicken was below average - not enough sauce or cheese. I had digestive issues immediately after eating this meal....perhaps because the meat lover's slice was undercooked, perhaps because this was way too much food for one person. :) read more

Pizza was Mid at best, the garden salad that was $7 was just a bowl of lettuce and a few cut up pieces of tomato (lazy) the cheese sauce tasted like plastic and the paper plate that they put my bread sticks on had 2 mouse droppings on it. I loved finding this little casual pizza spot for lunch today. Very good pizza. Was it the best pizza I've ever had? No but really good. Friendly service on the phone when I placed my order. I was told about 20 min. Took me about 20 min from my house and pizza was ready. They have signs up to "please wear a mask" as a private business they have the right to enforce it. So just wear the damn thing. They were offering eat in dining. I took mine home. Friendly service inside and the place looked very clean. They have one picnic table out front. Pizza had plenty of toppings and sauce and a good amount of cheese. I think I would have liked it baked just a tad longer to crisp the bottom crust. It was foldable like NY pizza should be. The edge crust was chewy and went great with the nacho cheese I already had at home. They have one size pizza. It's a good 20inches. So naturally, every few weeks it seems I get a new craving for pizza and instead of going to the same places I try to switch it up every now and then so when I found Manhattan I decided to give it a shot! They don't seem to be doing any in person dining but i was able to do carry out. We got wings, garlic knots, and the grandma pie. Garlic knots: these were probs my favorite thing. This dipped in the cheese sauce was hella good. Really nice flavor to it without it being overwhelming. Def recommend! Wings: so I love my wings with ranch. Unfortunately I forgot to get some so having the wings just like that, they tasted solid, but they had a stronger vinegar flavor than I'd prefer. I think if I had ranch I would've enjoyed them a little bit more. Pie: so this is my own fault. I assumed the pie would be just a whole pizza, but to me it was more like a focaccia bread which was still good! It's just not what I was expecting so I definitely want to go back and try the actual pizza. I'm going 4 stars because part of the reason I wasn't the happiest with the meal was mainly my own faults and everything was still good. Reading some of the reviews of Manhattan Pizzeria I noticed some native New Yorkers said this pizza made them reminisce about the famous NY pizza they remember. If native New Yorkers give it a thumbs up than you know it's good. They had a lot of different options of pizzas to choose from. It's located right off of 56th close to Eagle Creek Park. It's in the same strip mall as The Boathouse Grill. I liked how the pizzas had a lot of toppings on them. No skimping! They have garlic knots, calzones, wings, and sausage and chicken rolls also. I've been twice and both times were great! They have one size 'pie' which is super size large. We had it with sausage and mushroom... so good. A little annoying: I tried to order online, and the website directed me to an app. I downloaded the app, built my order and put in my billing details only to get an error that the restaurant doesn't use the app any longer. I called and placed my pickup order by phone easily - just wish I hadn't wasted 5 minutes on the app. We got two pizzas (there's only one size, and it's a huge 8 pieces) and garlic knots. Tasty pizza, friendly service, and with good prices. I could never tell you what's really NY style, never been, but I'll tell you the pizza is good! Crunchy crust, little oregano, and it's thin! They have a great lunch special during the week, you can buy by the slice or a whole pie, which are huge. The garlic knots were a little bland IMO, with just a ton of seasoning so I didn't care for them too much. But the standard ole cheese pizza never disappoints. Friendly staff, couple of younger kids running the show most of the time but it's very upbeat service and they're pretty attentive. You can order at a table setup just inside their front door or call. I believe they close at 8pm most nights but they probably stay open later when we are not in a pandemic. As a non-Hoosier, I truly think the mom and pop restaurants in Indiana do not get the glory they deserve unless your grandma remembers eating there when she was 6. Their.pizza place looks like an average strip mall pizza joint...some of which are expensive and not good. But if you love pizza this place is definitely a hidden gem. Have you ever noticed that every single time a New York-style pizza joint opens up in Indy that reviews suddenly exclaim "Finally! Real New York style pizza in Indy!?" It makes me laugh. The truth is that Manhattan Pizzeria does not, and I repeat does not, feature "real" or "authentic" New York-style pizza. It features the Indiana version of New York-style pizza, which is akin to finding genuinely good Mexican in Indy and proclaiming it "real Mexican." Am I cynical? Absolutely. To be fair, Manhattan Pizzeria is definitely better than many of the chains. That's a fair statement. However, let us note: New York style pizza is hand-tossed - Manhattan Pizzeria does not hand-toss its pizzas. New York style pizza features a thick crust that is crispy along its edges - Manhattan Pizzeria gets the crispness pretty decently, but that's about it. New York style pizza is nearly always sold in wide, mega slices similar to those godawful greasebombs you typically find in your neighborhood mall. Manhattan Pizzeria's slices, while far from small, are modestly sized at best and if you would fold them over, as is traditional with New York style, these toppings would slide. Um, no. Manhattan Pizzeria is good pizza. It's a fine addition to the neighborhood, but it is most certainly not "authentic" New York-style pizza. I stopped by Manhattan after seeing it featured on the listing of Indy's newest restaurants. I was in the area doing some Geocaching and decided to grab a slice and try the place out. Located in a small strip center close to Eagle Creek Park, Manhattan Pizzeria appears to be a family owned business. As has been noted, and I do agree with, the family is friendly and helpful. The strip center has ADA compliant parking with appropriate curb cuts. The single glass door is a touch heavy but manageable, though it's worth noting that only a single front table is wheelchair friendly. The remainder of the seating consists of all elevated booths. As you enter, the long ordering counter is to the right with the row of booths to the left. The sole accessible table is near the front door with the fountain drinks adjacent. As you might expect, they offer pizza by the slice and by the pie. The slice prices range from $2.50 - $3.50 while most of the pies are in the $13-14 range. They also offer a handful of other Italian-style dishes. They have one-size fountain drinks consisting of all soft drinks and lemonade. They have some bottled options including water. I don't believe they have an iced tea option - a fact that would likely eliminate me from a future return. I ordered a single slice of sausage and a bottled water. The total was $4.89. It's definitely reasonably priced and definitely less expensive than any of your mall outlets. The sausage is sort of sliced in chunks. My impression? Manhattan was fine. I was a tad turned off that the person baking the pies wasn't wearing gloves, though the restaurant was clean and he was certainly being careful. The slice was served in a timely manner and was served on a paper plate. The slice was decent. I thought the cheese overwhelmed the sausage and the toppings were a little slight. However, at that price point I thought it was a solid value. Would I order it again? I'd probably switch toppings. However, I would definitely return to Manhattan if in the area. It's definitely not a destination pizzeria. I will note that Manhattan is one of the better decorated pizza joints that focuses on "by the slice" options. The walls have a New York theme, while the booths are a dark wood and it's clear that the family has invested in their restaurant. They have "official" t-shirts and are clearly using quality equipment. I liked Manhattan. The employees were friendly, the atmosphere comfortable, and the pizza slice was good (but not great). While I can't even begin to fathom a 5-star review, a 4 wouldn't be out of the question. However, due to my accessibility concerns and my initial experience I'm sticking with a 3-star rating for now - a definite recommendation but likely best as an option for those already in the area. read more
