If I could give this place a negative star, I would. This was my first and very last time visiting…read morethis place. I was referred here after my eye doctor referred me to them on Wednesday of last week and said that my eye problem would need to be treated by a retina specialist, hence me coming here on Friday. From the time I got there, to the time I left, It was a bad experience. I got there and was told the paperwork that I filled out in it's entirety online the night before wasn't in their system and had to do it again. That annoyed me, but whatever. The asian lady that took me back to dilate my eyes, never introduced herself or welcomed me. She took me to the exam room and then started talking about what she was about to do and that was it. The only person there with bedside manners and professionalism was the male tech that did the ultrasound of my eye. The eye doctor Joseph khawly then came in. He greeted me and then sat down. My daughter, who is 20 by the way, very important to note here, is with me. As I am trying to explain to the doctor what is going on with my eye, he cuts me off. He talks very fast and continues to cut me off several more times when I start speaking, before just plopping me almost flat back in the chair to look in my eye. That pissed me off because not only is he clearly being rude and talking over me, cutting me off but no beside manners what so ever. Then he roughly holds each eye open while shining his bright light into it. As he sits me back up, he then asks me how long have I had diabetes, guess that's the standard for black people according to him. No where did I say nor indicate in my paperwork that I have diabetes, which I don't by the way. So when I respond and say that I don't, he acts surprised and then says he thought he read that in my paperwork. I then try to explain what started the whole situation with my eye, beginning in April 2023. He cuts me off per usual and then asks how did I get it and starts naming different things and I tell him none of them and try to explain where the previous doctor said that it came from. You guessed it, he cuts me off again. At this point, my daughter intervenes and says that he keeps cutting me off and his response is "okay?" and then she says "okay so let her finish you just keep cutting her off". I guess that must have struck his fragile male ego, because at this point the visit turns very hostile and unprofessional. He then turns to look at me dumbfoundedly, and says "ok go ahead and finish what you were going to say". I finish my statement and he then says that there's nothing he can do about my situation but give me eye drops to see if they can help. He says that there is no special drops or surgeries that can help to make it better, however he can give me some drops to try to see if it will help. My daughter then asks him what would be the point of the eye drops then, he said "what?" and she repeated herself. He then turns to me to say the drops are not going to make it any better, but it won't get any worse either, we can try them for a while and see if it does anything. I then start trying to tell him that everything he is saying outside of the drops and surgery is the same exact thing I was told 2 days prior all while he has his back turned to me typing like I'm not talking or even there BTW. I then went on to try to explain that the whole point of me coming there was because they referred me to him and said that I needed treatment that only a retina specialist could do. I then went on to say that now he is saying that there is no treatment, which there is again BTW, and that it's frustrating because I feel like I wasted my time and money coming here because I'm not being heard in the first place and what does he do?? CUT ME OFF AGAIN but this time he shoves a sticky note in my face with the words EPIRETINAL MEMBRANE written on it and yells "This is what you have". My daughter then says for the 100th time, you keep cutting her off and he jumps up, leans over into her face and points his finger in her face telling her to not come him off

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Eye Center of Texas has left me frustrated,…read moredisappointed, and deeply concerned about the lack of professionalism and accountability I encountered. I came to this office as a self-pay (cash) patient. From the beginning, I made it clear to the billing department that I would not be using insurance and requested a Good Faith Estimate, which is a right afforded to all uninsured patients. I was told the procedure would cost $410, and based on that estimate, I agreed to move forward. At no point did anyone clarify that this quote was per eye. That distinction would have made a significant difference in my decision-making process. After the procedure, I left assuming my account was paid in full. No one informed me otherwise. About a week later, one of the plugs came out, and I called to schedule a follow-up. I was redirected to another location due to scheduling issues, and when I arrived, I was told I still owed $410 for the second eye. This was the first time I was made aware that the original quote was not for both eyes. I paid the remaining balance during a later visit--$820 in total--despite being misinformed. Then, to my surprise, I received another bill for additional doctor fees that were never disclosed or included in the original quote. When I reached out for clarification, I received a generic and dismissive response confirming the balance was "due" without anyone addressing the root issue: repeated miscommunication, missing information, and a complete lack of accountability from the billing department. This is not just about money--it's about ethics. A medical practice should be transparent and accountable, especially when dealing with patients who are paying out of pocket. I was never given a complete, itemized Good Faith Estimate. Charges were added after the fact, and each time I asked questions, I was either ignored or met with vague, unhelpful responses. No one has accepted responsibility for these mistakes. I've given the office every opportunity to resolve this fairly and professionally, and they've failed. If you are a self-pay patient, I urge you to be extremely cautious. Ask for every detail in writing. Ask what is included and what is not. And even then, be prepared for surprise charges. I expected far more from a reputable clinic like Eye Center of Texas, and instead I feel taken advantage of and dismissed. This experience has left me with little trust in the way this office handles billing and patient communication. I hope this review helps others avoid the same frustration I've endured
