So it's a quite Sunday morning, and we saw a ton of cars in front of this donut shop - so we had to stop and check it out. As you can see from my pic, they were loaded and ready for customers. When we arrived it was slow, but then the crowd had followed us in. Suddenly, staff rose to the occasion, and became super-efficient. There aren't many tables there so I believe everyone had their donuts togo. As you can see from my pic, I had my usual apple fritter. It was the expectedly large and dense pastry. It had the right amount of crunchy parameter, and tender/soft center and the requisite super sweet glazing. In their fritter, they had ample amount of apple bits dispersed throughout. For variety we had their lemon creamed filled powdered donuts. This didn't disappoint on the ample amount of lemony sweet filling or the powdered sugar. I was so overwhelmed by the amount of filling, I don't exactly remember what the donut was like - I think a light dough that mushable when we pulled it apart to share (and what a mess I created with the powdered sugar!).

At 9 am on weekdays they have a full assortment delicious, fresh baked pastries and the staff are hard at work preparing trays for later in the day. The servers are friendly and it's not too busy - lines of maybe 4 or 5 people at the most. There are two businesses sharing the same building: Village Bread on the right and Lucid Coffee on the left. You get in line and pay twice, once for drinks and again for pastries. It's great to support local, independent businesses and hopefully the arrangement is working out well for both of them. There are small tables with stools to sit on around the side of the counter on the way to the gender-neutral restroom at the back of the shop. The tables are a bit small but it leaves a wide aisle and clearly communicates that the building is accessible for folks who use wheelchairs. The hum of the oven fans creates white noise in the background and there is music playing but not distractingly loud. I find it easy to get work done here. There is free wifi, ask at the counter for the QR code or password.

I visited this country store after apple picking since my friends and I were craving apple cider…read moreand my experience here was pretty good. The apple cider was good, but I would've preferred it to be colder and not served in a Styrofoam cup. I'm assuming that's because it was the end of the day and it looked like they were running out of apple cider and other materials. I also got the apple cider popsicle for $2 which was a good deal. It was good, but I didn't like how the juice separated from the water during the freezing so it tasted like regular ice by the time I got to the core of the popsicle. For food, I tried their Strawberry Banana Sweet Bread and that was my favorite thing! It was not too sweet and moist. It was $6.50, but not too bad for a whole loaf. The interior was fun and rustic. There are several things to shop for from different baked goods to nic nacs. The service here was pretty good and the staff seemed nice and personable. There's some parking out front as well as some picnic benches and tables with nice views of the mountains and foliage while you enjoy your treats. Overall, a good stop for some casual shopping and to enjoy a sweet treat if you're ever in the Oak Glen area.

The last few times we've gone, the service has been extremely slow, even when it didn't seem overly packed, which made the whole experience feel dragged out. The food is still decent, but it's nothing out of this world anymore, just pretty basic compared to how I remember it. That said, my favorite dish is still the skillet with turkey, avocado, and bacon. It's a solid option and probably the one thing that keeps me coming back to give it another shot. They've changed the decor slightly over the years, and there's a nice little gift shop section right as you walk in, which adds some charm and gives it a cozy feel. The staff has always been nice and friendly, so no complaints there. I just wish the overall experience matched how good this place used to be, because it definitely had something special before.
