    Three vegetable plates with injera

If you are Vegan or Whole Foods Plant Based this is the place for you! The food if full of flavor without oil. The vegetable plate is more than enough to satisfy any appetite. Don't miss the injera (a flat bread similar to sourdough). It is so good. The service is polite and helpful. The environment is quiet and clean. The food here is crave worthy!

What an amazing find in Athens. This spot is a must! I love Ethiopian, and Eritrean is exceptional! Best injera I've had! Dishes are made with love. Red lentils are spiced perfectly. Vegetarians and meat lovers alike won't be disappointed.

I came here for the first time based on suggestions from other people who really recommended this place. Maybe I had too high of expectations. I also read a lot of reviews about how flavorful and well-seasoned their dishes are. But honestly the food seemed a little bit bland or under seasoned to me. It's not bad though. I can see why people really like this place. We came in around 5 and were the only people there. You choose what size of plate you want, injera (kind of like a fluffy pancake) or rice, and whether you want a meat or veggie dish. The veggie dish comes with 3 choices. I chose the injera, collard greens, red lentils, and mixed veggies. The injera was super fluffy and I loved the texture. However, the flavor was a bit sour for my taste. The collard greens were also on the sour bitter side. I prefer more savory collard greens. The red lentils, which got great reviews, were kind of bland and lacking in flavor. What flavor was there though was good. The only thing I really liked on the plate was the mixed veggies (potatoes, carrots, etc). It had a curry-like taste to them and it was very flavorful. Maybe this isn't my personal taste, but it was far from bad. It's pretty healthy and filling for about $8. The lady working there was very helpful and nice. We had to wait a bit for the food. I'm glad I tried it out and can say I've tried Ethiopian food. The inside is pretty clean and this is in the corner of a busy plaza. I would recommend Manna Weenta if you are in Athens and enjoy trying different international cuisine or if you really like Ethiopian food.

I love Ethiopian food and there really aren't that many restaurants out there. This one is outstanding. Just a little restaurant. Great food. Great place for vegans. The beef was excellent. I see why it's received so many rewards

Great options For Ethiopian/Eritrean food while in Athens Georgia. They had all of the classic staples in as a vegan family we were very happy to find this place. Tried Ethiopian coffee for the first time and we are not coffee drinkers by any stretch of the imagination but this was really good and had a very rich flavor. The restaurant is owned by a lady that's from Eritrea so we knew that it was very authentic. Prices for the items were very good and you get large portions whether you get a small plate or a large plate. Restaurant was very clean overall we will be back when we're in the mood for some East African food. Highly recommend!

It's counter service--you order at the register, find a seat (there's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating), and they'll bring your food out. I ordered the fish taco combo, which came with two fish tacos, yuca fries, and a canned drink. The tacos were good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the menu changes. Everything is a combo now, and I was told I couldn't order the tacos by themselves. I wish they'd bring back the à la carte option because I'd rather try a few different things than be locked into one meal. The yuca fry portion was also smaller than I expected--I only got about five fries. Overall, it's still a spot I'd recommend if you're visiting Athens since it's been a local favorite for so long. I just left a little less impressed than I remember being the last time I was here.

We were immediately seated an enjoyed cocktails -- I had their version of a margarita. It was smokey but not overpowering. My friend enjoyed the sangria. We split the potatoes, cheese board and the gluten free chicken shawarma pizzette. The potatoes were the best and I really liked the cheeseboard too. The jam made the cheese flavors pop! For our entree we split the short rib which was perfect since it normally comes with two pieces. It was so flavorful and delicious. We didn't sty for dessert since we had a GymDawgs meet to get to and they seemingly didn't have a chocolate option. Great service. Great food and great drinks.

It took me a while to get a drink. Started with some tapas, the mushrooms, the potato's and the dates. The mushrooms were good but over battered. Could even tell you were eating mushrooms. The potatoes were not fully soft and lacked salt and flavor. The tomato spread on top also lacked flavor. The dates and manchengo cheese was just werid in presentation and hard to eat. We had to order bread, not something I'm used to especially with the tapas. Ordered the branzino for 2. Others ordered the steak and pork chops. The steak came out cold and the pork chop was overcooked. The branzino was nice, but the sides were cold. One of our party ordered another beer which he did not get until I summoned the manger over. A chaotic period, and when my brother and/or I were in town to help out with these exhausting and time-consuming tasks, finding quick, reasonably priced, somewhat healthy, and hopefully tasty food was challenging indeed. I unfortunately didn't discover Maepole until 2025, but it nicely ticked off those boxes. Maepole is basically a "fast casual," Southern-inflected "bowl" place, with a much heavier emphasis on the nutritious and fresh than is typical of traditional Southern cooking. You start with a base, just like at Chipotle or Cava--greens, sweet potatoes, or quinoa, etc.--and top with veggies or salads, and, if you prefer a protein, you can add chicken, pork, or tofu. Or you can just go full-on veggie plate. Top with a flavorful sauce; my favorites were the spicy avocado and lemon herb. My general impression of the food quality was that it wasn't quite at the five-star level some of the time--veggies weren't always cooked to perfection, for instance--but the general experience and value, as well as the bold flavors, argue for bumping this rating up to five stars. Plus, every time I think about Maepole, I sure wish my current city had an option like it.

They got a table ready for a party of 6 pretty quickly which was great! They have two dining areas inside and outside seating available. I ordered the peach french toast with potatoes, another person ordered the cinnamon roll to start and the a biscuit with gravy. My husband ordered the pulled pork bowl on grits and a side of fried chicken . The kids had french toast with fruit. My potatoes I can tell were from a bag and not fresh cut potatoes. They were tiny and probably what you can purchase at the grocery store, so they were crunch and hard to eat. The french toast didn't have the best taste, and the peaches seemed canned. Presentation was nice but I wouldn't order that again. My husband did not enjoy his pulled pork bowl either, he said it lacked a bit of flavor. The cinnamon roll was a little hard like it had been sitting for a bit. Now for the good, the fried chicken was some of the best chicken I had tasted so whatever is being done there keep it up! The biscuits with the jam available on the table were amazing! The kids enjoyed their kids meal as well. If in Athens again we would definitely get the chicken and biscuit but skip the other items we previously ordered.

The food: I went with the Fried Chicken Blue Plate. Between the regular and the Nashville Hot, the Nashville was the winner--flavorful and moist without being overwhelming with the spice. Huge shoutout to my server for suggesting the brussel sprouts; that glaze is incredible and they were easily my favorite part of the plate. The mashed sweet potatoes were unique--I'm still debating if I liked them or loved them. The jalapeño cornbread was a bit sweet for my taste but on par with most restaurant cornbread. The mac & cheese wasn't bad, but also didn't do much for me like most restaurant mac & cheese. The cocktail: Do not sleep on Nana's Naissance. I wasn't sure what to expect from the ingredients, but it's like an elevated take on Rumchata. The service: I was seated at the bar and experienced a noticeable delay--a group that arrived well after me almost finished their meal before mine arrived. However, the waitress acknowledged the wait before I even had to mention it and made things right. I really appreciate that kind of proactive service.
