I've used this bakery many times, and I've always had fresh and excellent baked goods. I was pleasantly surprised to find their Paczki were the best I've ever had. I will definitely be back next year on Fat Tuesday for more. The Paczki are huge and absolutely filled to bursting with filling. Each paczek is iced with a corresponding flavor to the filling (i.e. strawberry with strawberry frosting) except vanilla Bavarian crème/custard with chocolate frosting. Everything I've ever purchased has been exceptionally fresh. The cannoli are great, too, as is the Cassata Cake. I highly recommend this bakery. read more

I have had Mannino's cakes over the years, including my high school graduation (back in 2010), and I have to say this bakery always delivers a consistent, quality cake. Last year, when my Aunt was in town, we put in a cake order for a birthday cake. This year, I had completely forgotten to place an order, so I went in to the store that day to just pick up some various desserts - cupcakes, cookies, pastries, etc., but was happy to see that they had cakes available for purchase (that were baked that morning). The young woman helping me choose a cake was very pleasant and patient as I was being indecisive - I wanted to ensure that I picked a flavor that everyone would love. I ended up choosing their signature cassata cake flavor! They were able to quickly write a "Happy Birthday" message on the cake and sent me on my way. I didn't stick around too long to peruse the desserts, but in the past I have purchased cookies and pastries from this bakery, and they have all been delicious. Amazingly, I find that nothing is overly sweet, which is my preference when it comes to desserts. That all being said, my family loved the cake - decoration and taste! The cassata cake filling was smooth and creamy, the yellow cake was light, and the frosting was also light and similar to a whipped cream frosting! You could easily eat two slices and not feel overly stuffed, or maybe I just have a bottomless pit stomach when it comes to cakes! :) This Italian bakery is a must-visit in the metro Detroit/Sterling Heights area! I frequent this place and forget to mention it here! I love this bakery...partly because it brings me so many good memories of when I was a child, and the other part is for the cassata cake! This cake is delicious...the cream inside the cake is so creamy, not too sweet and so smooth it makes you want to eat the entire cake! I wanted to love this place, I really did, but I couldn't. The amazing reviews and packed bakery made me think I hit a home run on finding the right bakery to get my grandmothers cake from. When I went in to order the cake, a young girl helped me out. I chose a cake case that I wanted the flowers to look like (they were periwinkle and a blue color), but the girl kept saying light blue and indigo, I was annoyed but maybe they just called it a different color than what I saw- it surely wasn't indigo. I picked the cake up today (3/23/19), and it's gorgeous, perfect looking even though the colors weren't what I was looking for. We ate dinner and when it was time to cut into the cake, I notice immediately that the cake looked dry. I didn't sweat it because it still looked good, but once I ate it, I instantly regretting my choice in choosing Mannino's. The frosting was really bland, the icing was an inch think on the edges, and yep, I was right...it was pretty damn dry. I would love to give the bakery another shot, but I could have easily gotten a better cake from Kroger. Edited to add: I gave this company another shot and tried a couple of their desserts (cupcake & cannoli). Needless to say, I won't ever be returning. read more

The cake I ordered was wonderful! I see why they were voted #1 bakery in Michigan. Cake was moist and not too heavy and the cassata filling was delicious. Horrible customer service from staff and especially top brass or owner. Took over an hour+ for promised time of cake pick up. No sense of urgency or empathy in making people wait- instead use excuses that they're short staffed. More professional to let customers know that they're delayed in their services versus waiting customer's time. I been here in the past and usually it's really busy so I understand the wait for the service but they are always nice about it. Their desserts and cakes are pretty good and the prices for their items are low which is a plus. I went here today to buy a cake for my mom for her birthday. It was only me and another family ahead of me that were indecisive of what they want so I understand that they have questions so I waited patiently for 5 mins. I was there right in front of the cake display knowing what I want but still no one acknowledge me. I saw someone another worker coming in and out from the kitchen and the family was still indecisive of what they want. Again, no one helped me so I left after about 7 minutes of wait. I gave a 4 star instead of 5 due to the customers service. But otherwise than that I do like the bakery but I prob won't be back again because this was the second that it happened to me. read more

Lisa does not listen to what you ask for when it comes to custom cakes. Gave her specific and clear directions in an email and in person for a boy's birthday cake. The color is completely off and she didn't add the detail around cake I asked for and she herself wrote down for her own notes. Upon picking the cake up is when she communicated issues about putting detail around the cake and didn't inform beforehand. They also are not timely with the orders. Ordered a cake last year as well and it was behind 2 hours, then this time waited again beyond the time I asked to have it. I will not be ordering anymore unfortunately because of the lack of communication, ability to replicate a very simple design, and overall poor service. When you enter, you can see all of their beautiful desserts and cakes on display. You're welcomed by super charismatic employees that have some great suggestions. I got some cannoli, cheesecake, and their famous tiramisu. They have 2 choices of cannoli, chocolate covered or not. I got both, and wish I got more! The filling was super creamy, the shell was baked to perfection, and the almond toppings were crisp and crunchy! If you've never had real Italian cheesecake, make sure you try it here! The cheesecake was super rich and absolutely delicious. The cheesecake was a little thicker than I'd liked, but the fluffy cloud of whipped cream on top made up for it! Their tiramisu was really good as well. Rich, tasty, and the chocolate was the best part! Mannino's is also famous for their wedding cakes and you can make an appointment with them to plan for it! They also have some fancy cakes on display. The only thing I'd change about this place is the seating, since there isn't any. With the some indoor/outdoor seating, this would be the perfect dessert place! Warning: I'm slightly allergic to peanuts, and I was getting a slight allergic reaction to my dessert items! Mannino's has been in this location for decades. Each family member has one thing here they treasure. For my parents it's the Italian bread. It's sturdy and great for sandwiches and chasing egg yolk around the plate when you have sunny side up eggs. My brother is a ricotta cannoli lover. If we are going to be in the area, I usually call ahead and check if they have them because he gets disappointed if he goes and they're sold out. The one thing I absolutely adore are their butter cookies with a maraschino cherry on top. Semolina flour gives them a healthy golden glow. This time the cookies were super fresh. (Even great on day 2 as well.) Easily 5 star and the best I've ever had. However, I've had them here before when they were not so fresh, so Mannino's gets 4 stars today. read more

I love this bakery!! So far I tried the cannoli and cheesecake and they were both scrumptious. I was fortunate enough to try their cannoli freshly filled since they were filling them when I got there. The shell was thick and crunchy with a creamy, light filling. I had their regular cannoli but will definitely return to try their ricotta cannoli and chocolate cannoli. The cheesecake was smooth and the whipped cream on top really complimented it. The bakery really has a pretty big selection to choose from. They offer donuts, cakes, various pastries, breads, Italian cookies, pre-made pizza and pizza dough. I have the good fortune (sometimes misfortune when I'm on a diet) to live near Mannino's. I grew up in an area with several good Italian bakeries and Mannino's tops them all. They have Italian classic cookies and cassata cake. However, they also do great non-Italian stuff (my wife's favorite chocolate cake; she's very picky).
