Sweet mother of god every single bite I took eating this sandwich, I kept finding myself thinking, "HOLY SHIT! THIS IS SO GOOD!" I got the Manny's Special and it was SPECIAL alright. After touring around the different options two of us decided to try Manny's which I understand is very popular at the State Fair. We placed our order, which took about 10 minutes. Delicious and generous tortas and food at this charming spot. Manny and his wife have a fun banter with customers so you feel welcome. He was gracious to accommodate with gluten free options, and we found fun areas of commonality to discuss as he was going in many directions with food for a long line of hungry folks. This is a stable place where the offerings taste great all the time, even though they had gone recently through ICE harassment. You gotta love their capacity to keep going despite that frightening, adolescent paramilitary jam of boys thinking they are playing Call of Duty with real live people. Manny's is a little gem located in Midtown Global Market in the old Sears building in South Minneapolis. I was on a mission when going to Manny's today and that was to try the Potachos and I was not disappointed! The owner greeted us and helped us with our order. We told him we were there because we had read about the Potachos in Monday's paper: The Five Things I Ate This Week and were intrigued. He was excited and hadn't seen the article yet, luckily we had the paper in the car for him! The Potachos are a disc of hash browns cooked perfectly golden brown, topped with cheese, pico de gallo and a generous dose of sour cream! And yes, it is as if not more delicious than it sounds! If I could give this place one star, I would. The food was terrible. I ordered a Torta Cubana and they gave me half a sandwich. On top of that, it cost $7--for just half! Ohhhh Manny's, Manny's! While I think they're the most well-known vendor in the Midtown Global Market, I still think Manny's is underrated!!! I absolutely love everything in MGM but Manny's hits different! I'm not sure why it took me so long to try it - my first time was in late 2020 but better late than never! I've gone several times since then and it never disappoints! I have yet to stray from the tortas because they're just sooooo good! Every torta also comes with a bag of classic lays - I love this touch! They're also so sweet here! You can often order from Manny himself! Get any torta here and I promise you will understand me when I say it's probably the best hidden gem in Minneapolis! Oh and did I mention you'll spend under $15 on this meal?! And you'll be full!! Seriously Manny's is kind of perfect, I'd give it 6 stars if I could. Parking tip: you can park in the garage on 10th Ave S and I believe they offer 1 hour validation! Manny people have come here and manny people have loved it and manny people have given manny 5 star ratings to that. But I've had a great manny tortas in my life, manny more than most of the manny others who have reviewed this place. Not that manny tortas have blown me away, but manny of them are pretty damn good and this is one of the manny that are pretty damn good, but not incredible. They're also not cheap, costing a couple too manny dollars, if you ask me. But manny places inside this market are a little overpriced, and manny other places are charging too much these days. The lady working at Manny's Tortas was a complete angel. She was my fave thing about the place. The prices are not too bad and the products are pretty decent. However, considering some of the reviews, I was expecting maybe the best Torta I've ever had, when in fact I can name five straight off the top of my head in Houston alone, that I like way more than this one, and probably 40 or 50 nationwide. In fact, I bet I can find some others in the Twin Cities that I like more too. Close to the main entrance of the Hipster, muy-appropriated Midtown Global Market, Manny's is one of the more popular spots in here, and can have lines and wait times sometimes, but the rest of the market is well worth exploring, which does have some great food in it as well. This goes in the good food category but not the great food category. The fact that the woman serving it was so friendly is, as I said, my favourite thing about it. I did eat about half of it so it certainly was good but I was hungry so if it had been amazing I'm sure the whole thing would have gone down. Just like me. My wife and I came here with a little one for lunch earlier this month. Thank goodness, this was open on a Sunday as only a few were open in Midtown Global Markets. My wife got the Manny special (Steak, Onion, Mushroom, Tomato, Jalapeño, grilled together then topped with Ham & Cheese) while I got a breakfast sandwich (HUEVOS CON CHORIZO / EGG & MEXICAN). The nice people there served it to us and provided a knife to cut for our son to eat as well. Our son who is a little over 1 year old loved both sandwiches. Also, it came with a side of Lay's potato chips which was nice as well. I hope that this place gets better traction since it looks a little depressing with alot of stores closed. Most of the sandwiches are good here. In Minneapolis, that's a revelation! The Cubana is worthy of the praise it receives. Even the turkey is interesting, with a tangy sauce. There are a lot of great sandwiches to choose from, and almost all are pretty good. The only miss here is the bistek (steak) torta. As with most other Mexican restaurants in the twin cities, beef is cut into tiny, flavorless gumball-sized chunks. (I don't know why this is such a thing here, and I've never gotten used to it.) Also, be warned that this restaurant does a very big takeout and delivery business. You will not be warned when you order if they are busy, even if it appears you are the only customer at the counter. I got a delivery the week of August 19th to the Mother and Child Center a few blocks away. I think I got the special? Honestly, I enjoyed Manny's Torta ... I'm going to guess perhaps he was a food truck gone restaurant? My ooooooooonly gripe is the torta was a bit greasy by the time it got to me. I'm sure fresh off the grill it's just fine, but my first deli meat sandwich since getting pregnant I guess I was expecting 'wow' vs a little soggy. Nonetheless a strong four stars - try them out! Pretty sure I can die happy, and full. Got the mannys special for lunch which comes with a single size bag of chips-unneeded as the torta was so satisfying. Manny is a true gem. Kind and helpful, he taught me how to make my own tomatillo salsa. But here's why we're all here: the special is so f*%&@g good. My mouth was slightly on fire from the first bite from the kick of the jalapeños. The steak had a great grill on it but maintained its moisture and chew. Absolutely love the Cubana! When I go to MGM I usually go to one of 3-4 places, Manny's is one of them for many reasons. Although it's not the cheapest option in the market they definitely have some good things going for them. 1. The Tortas are great, my favorite is definitely the Cubana. 2. I love Manny's and have been eating there for longer than I can remember. Still I've only had the tortas and only four of those to boot. The Manny's Special, 3 Little Pigs, The Cubana, and the Ham. Of the four I'd recommend the Manny's Special. Its the signature torta (steak, onion, mushroom, tomato, jalapeño). Your order and they grill all that together on a flat top THEN top it with ham and cheese and put that on some nice crusty bread slathered with avocado, a thin layer of refried beans, lettuce, tomato and on and on and on. The jalapenos provide a nice kick that will set your mouth on fire if you aren't used to spicy things. If its your first visit get this. Its a little bit of almost everything they have. The 3 Little Pigs is pork tenderloin, bacon, and ham. Not as substantial as the Manny's Special but awesome in its own right and would be my second choice. The sandwiches come with chips and there are drinks to order on the side if you wish. We prefer to order the tortas and chips and then gravitate over to East Lake Brewing (about thirty feet away) and they will gladly bring it over to you when its ready. Beer and tortas is THIS close to being as good as beer and tacos. There are salads and apps that are probably as good as the tortas but I've never had them. With so many good places to choose from in the Global Market it can be really difficult sometimes to decide where to eat. My best advice is to just flip a coin and let the result be your destiny. When that coin lands on Manny's tortas you won't be disappointed. In my opinion, these are the best tortas in Minneapolis. My favorite is Manny's take on the Cuban sandwich (The Cubana). The only difference between a normal Cuban and Manny's Cuban is that Manny's substitutes Jalapenos for the normal pickles, which makes this sandwich even better. I guess it's a Mexican Cuban? I don't like to order the same thing every time I dine, but this sandwich is so good, I find myself in a rut when I come to Manny's because all I ever order in the Cubana but hey, that is just fine. It's almost like my own episode of Best Thing I Ever Ate! I do find it strange that they don't offer chips and salsa, instead you get normal potato chips with your sandwich, but that's ok. Guess it is just a sandwich. (A really good sandwich). The service is excellent, the atmosphere is great and the tortas are out of this world. It has the perfect balance of melty, gooey, cheesy, salty, chewy, crunchy, crusty, savory goodness. It is the most crave-able sandwich I've ever devoted my hunger to. The Manny's special is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, the disneyworld of the meat on bread kingdom, the sun and the stars. This thing is better, then it's best. Every savory bite is incredible. Avocado, grilled onions and peppers, grilled steak and pork, melty cheese inside perfectly baked bread. Eat it, let it fulfill you- then wish you were still hungry so you could eat another one. A group of us took off from downtown Minneapolis for a quick lunch at Midtown Global Market. We entered the large building and walked through all the stalls and saw all of the eclectic food and gifts. My buddy recommended Manny's Tortas because he heard they were great. I ordered a Cuban torta and my friend ordered the Manny's special. With a coke and bag of chips it was $10.17. Manny was heading the register and was a pretty nice guy. Behind Manny on the gill was a chef cooking up lots of meat and veggies and all sorts of good stuff. We decided to split the sandwiches and take a half each. I bit into the toasted bread, which was awesome for my first bite of the Cuban. It reminded me a lot of a toasted ham sandwich, but the flavors were everywhere. A little salty, but that was a common theme with our tortas. The Manny's Special was full of beef and some avocado and sauce and goodness. Again, too salty, but it was extremely good. The sandwich was perfect lunch size and would be an easy recommend anytime a friend goes to Lake street. A couple of others get the Manny's Special and also really liked it. Don't try the burrito place across from Manny's though. The burrito had bones in it! Not sure of the name, but stay away! Manny has another restaurant near this location on Lake as well. At 3PM with nothing in my belly since previous night's dinner, I was ready to eat the world. I settled for Manny's Tortas at Midtown Global Market given the reviews.... But I was a bit disappointed. I was debating on the Cubana or the Manny Special and got the latter because I am easily convinced with food pictures, and they advertised it by the cashier... This sandwich/sammy had heated steak and veggies (jalapeños included but can be removed if you are not into the heat) inside, a slice of ham, and some kind of sauce that looks like an aioli but spicier. They also give you a side of lays chips. The biggest gripe I have with the place was that my sandwich was soggy. As in one side of the bread was so mushy i had to eat it with a fork because it just fell apart. It was not even attractive falling apart (not like my Chipotle burrito exploding into a plate which I will gleefully eat) but more like "oh well now since this takes so much effort it gives me a reason to not finish it". Also, I should note that I ate the sandwich literally right after I got it -- as in, sandwich off the grill for a minute and into my mouth. So, how within those 60 seconds it became slush I have no idea. While it didn't cost that much (I believe $8.95), given it is located in a market with so many other great options I sort of wish I tried elsewhere. The flavoring was okay but it was not anything I particularly thought I would try again. Somehow I thought it would be Mexican themed sandwiches (probably given the classification it is under in Yelp) but I was not convinced when I had it. I was glad that I split the sandwich with my boyfriend so I didn't have to finish the whole thing. That being said, the man who I assume to be the owner, seems very nice. First time having Manny's after my BF keeps raving about their steak tortas, and I understand why he hypes this place up. Sandwiches are made to order and their condiments really make this sandwich sing. I'm usually a "skip all sauce" type of girl but my BF said to try it as its suppose to be made and so I did (not a big mayo/ketchup/mustard type fan in any type of sandwich or foods). This sandwich however was excellent. It had a nice kick from chipotle pepper mayo and jalapeño peppers that didn't overpower my taste buds. Each sandwich also includes refried beans, avocado, onions, and standard tomato and cheese and lettuce. Each bite I took, had a fiery taste that was soon soothed with the creamy avocado spread.
