The best banh mi sandwiches I've had in a long long time. My family and I were close by and wanted to try a fast casual spot for lunch. Parking was easy (street parking or private parking in the back). Order at the counter and pay, then seat yourself. My kids ordered the wontons and egg rolls. My daughter ordered small cold cut banh mi. All were delighted and happy w/ their order. My husband ordered the curry tofu rice bowl and I ordered the grilled chicken bowl. We also shared the mock duck banh mi (large) and were were absolutely THRILLED with our orders. The flavors and the unique offerings here are one of a kind. Ordered Lu's for takeout and was so pleased! The pork Banh Mi was delicious but I did find it a bit bread heavy. Especially with the large size, the bread to meat/topping ratio felt off and not really worth the upgrade. Next time, I'll stick with the small. For reference, the large seemed to be about 10". Grilled pork banh mi hit the spot for what I was craving before the drive I had ahead. It's cool how it's a chain store here in Minneapolis similar to Lee's back in LA though they specialize more in just banh mi's here I think. I wish there was a greater ratio of daikon radish and filling to bread since the baguette was quite thick and so a little out of balance but I liked that there were options on what you wanted added to your banh mi. Service was very quick since it's a walk up and order. Ambiance given the location was pretty similar to a sandwich shop with students and families there. I've heard about Lu's many times but just never got a chance to go.. I ended up getting it doordashed today and it did not disappoint!! I got the grilled pork banh mi with extra pickled carrots and daikon, no mayo no pate and oh my gosh.. let's get into it. The bread is fresh af. The outside is light and crunchy and somehow yet the inside is so soft and pillowy and also light.. just wow. The grilled pork was cut into perfect bites sized pieces so I wasn't tearing meat or taking awkward bites. Also cooked well and juicy. The veggies were awesome too. The ban mi sandwiches are amazing! I always get either the pork or mock duck and it's perfectly seasoned, toppings are delicious. The bread is always fresh, crispy outside and soft inside. I got a few of their banh mis in the large size and had them cut in half, upgrading it with extra meat in each. Tbh, it felt so lackluster lol. I ordered online so I unfortunately drew the short end of the stick. The meat they provided is what I expected if I ordered it without the extra meat. If they stuff their small banh miss, I'm confused why they also didn't stuff their large banh mis when you order extra meat. So that's 2 star down. Flavor-wise, everything was delicious though. My only other con was how they cook their meats. For the chicken in particular, it was so wet. It wasn't even like a thick sauce, but it felt more like a watered down curry bc the bread was soaked through and dripping with that watered down sauce. Again, flavor was good but that watered-down, thin sauce that came with the chicken just ruined the banh mi's texture and integrity. If you order from here, make sure you do it in person since their set up is like Subway where you can tell the staff what you want on your banh mi, and explicitly tell them to drain the juices from the meats before they place it on the bread. Ambiance-wise, they've got plenty of seating in-doors and a couple tables outside too.
