    Grilled pork bahn mi
    Collin B.

Grabbed lunch at this small Bahn Mi shop. Ambiance is a classic sandwich shop. Simple menu, done well. The service was fast and the food was very fresh. I got the grilled pork bahn mi and I'm already planning when I can go there for lunch again. It was a good size for the price. Homemade crusty roll as the bun with tender cuts of grilled pork. If you like Bahn Mi, you have to try this place. Possibly, dare I say, the best Bahn Mi in the city.

Finally tried the famous Banh mi sandwiches made famous on Eat St The pork one is very good ,fresh tasty and the bread is soo soft but I could have used more spice in mine Also got an order of the eggrolls which were light crispy and not as greasy as others I've had *Delivery review only*

Ordered Lu's for takeout and was so pleased! The pork Banh Mi was delicious but I did find it a bit bread heavy. Especially with the large size, the bread to meat/topping ratio felt off and not really worth the upgrade. Next time, I'll stick with the small. For reference, the large seemed to be about 10". I also got the sesame donuts and tofu spring rolls--both were great! I do wish the donuts came with a sauce; they felt like they needed a little something extra. Also, shoutout to the adorable packaging--loved the strong branding!

I am so glad we were recommended Lu's by some locals when visiting Minneapolis. It was probably one of the best bahn mi I've ever had! And at about $8 for a "small" which was more than filling, it was a great deal too. Friendly order at the counter service where you can make your own custom sandwich with different meat and veggie options. I got the classic grilled pork on home made bread, slathered in butter and crisp vegetables. The Vietnamese iced coffee was tasty too.

Grilled pork banh mi hit the spot for what I was craving before the drive I had ahead. It's cool how it's a chain store here in Minneapolis similar to Lee's back in LA though they specialize more in just banh mi's here I think. I wish there was a greater ratio of daikon radish and filling to bread since the baguette was quite thick and so a little out of balance but I liked that there were options on what you wanted added to your banh mi. Service was very quick since it's a walk up and order. Ambiance given the location was pretty similar to a sandwich shop with students and families there. Definitely would feel awkward eating here along though so I took it to go. Would consider trying this again with friends though!

I've heard about Lu's many times but just never got a chance to go.. I ended up getting it doordashed today and it did not disappoint!! I got the grilled pork banh mi with extra pickled carrots and daikon, no mayo no pate and oh my gosh.. let's get into it. The bread is fresh af. The outside is light and crunchy and somehow yet the inside is so soft and pillowy and also light.. just wow. The grilled pork was cut into perfect bites sized pieces so I wasn't tearing meat or taking awkward bites. Also cooked well and juicy. The veggies were awesome too. I got a side of the fish sauce to add and that made it perfect. I also got the pork and shrimp spring rolls. Honestly these were also incredible i dipped them in the dish sauce. Will definitely get again!

Delicious food and clean environment. Highly recommend the bahn-mi grilled chicken! Vietnamese iced coffee paired perfectly!

I absolutely om nom'd this delicious sandwich. The small is quite big.

Delicious Bahn mi. Nothing else to say . Sandwich worth the money and very full. Delicious lunch. Glam donuts accross the street for dessert. 10/10 afternoon date snacks.

Stopped here looking for some simple vegan options and was surprised! The bowl was delicious and filling, the spring rolls I loved! I also got sandwich, but upon further inspection I believe the was not vegan (it contained mayo). It was "vegetarian" and I didn't want to risk it so after my first bite I tossed it. Wished their online ordering included what's inside the sandwiches. Looked cleaned inside, some on street and (free) off street parking. There was a guy sitting outside mumbling to himself.

I finally tried Lu's! I was going to a Vietnamese dinner party and I got take out. Wow. So good!! I can see why people love this place. Great service. We got 3 large vegan curry tofu banh mi, and they were able to cut it into smaller pieces for the party. Vegetable egg rolls and pork egg rolls. Everything was a huge hit. I was impressed with the flavors, the light crispiness of the egg rolls, the delicious veggies and curry tofu on the great bread. I loved it. I will 100% be back!

It's a nice, dense and chewy French bread. Good proportions of meats to veggies to bread.

Really good banh mi! The cold cut sandwich had a thick and toothy bread with tasty pate. The small sandwich is a generous portion and about the size of regular VN sandwiches that I get in Tx. The large boba milk tea was good and everything was a good value. Service was attentive and helpful, and they work fast!

Well thinking I would go to Pho Hua instead, I pulled intonthe Shuang Hur Grocer's parking lot thinking I'd grab a few things before heading north on Eat Street. Then I saw signs on the Shuang Hur building for a (new to me) Vietnamese joint in the same building. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! My Huong is an 8-top hole in the wall across the parking lot from the rear of El Nuevo Mariachi Restaurant. The place is homely, small, but brightly lit and plenty of day light through the picture windows overlooking Eat Street. It's a big contrast to Pho 79 type places that are dim and short on ambience. The clientele shows. Instead of just a bunch of Asians throwing down Pho, it's a mix like you'd see at Quang or Eat Street Crossing. I was seated right away, was greeted by a cheery Vietnamese lady, and ordered Hu Tieu Bo Khu (Beef Stew Noodle Soup.) It was a dish I haven't seen before even though I have been to so many Vietnamese places (see my other reviews and lists.) The dish came very quickly, and I was shocked that they didn't bring it with a veggie plate. Oh well. Well the best way I could describe Hu Tieu Bo Khu, its basically a pot roast over noodles. So the beefy broth like a less spicey version of Bun Bo Hue, with flavors of lemongrass and star anise, nicely garnished already with what would have been on a veggie plate. The broth was delicious, slightly sweet with the carrots, and the beef was fall apart amazingly stewed with deep flavor. There were other menu items like Curry Chicken pho and a Stewed chicken rice dish I'd have to return and try!

There aren't any "great" pho places in MN so can't be too picky. The hot and sour soup was huge. The picture doesn't do it justice,. That's a serving spoon in the picture! It didn't have much tamarind, was a bit sweet, and an interesting choice of okra; some of which were a bit slimy (as okra can get). The tofu was perfectly fried and had a nice bouncy texture. I much prefer Thanh Luong's version but for the price it's definitely worth it. Overall it's a great value and I will always prefer mom-and-pop operations over the sterile, corporate "industrial chic", neon-sign spots that are all the rage.

My opinions are just as much rooted in the emotion attached to each bite. We live in Texas but spend lots of time in the Twin Cities. I'm a vegetarian, so I put off going to Diane's Place because it felt like the options for me were relatively limited. Boy, am I kicking myself for waiting! I told my wife after our first meal at Diane's Place this weekend that I compared the first bite (which happened to be the green scallion croissant) to my responses to certain music. As a musician and audiophile, hearing something moving or stirring can illicit a very visceral emotional response. I experienced a very similar response with that very first bite. My appreciation for the art of cuisine brought to perfection by Diane Moua literally caused my eyes to well up. This may sound like hyperbole, but it is not. The egg rolls were light and crispy and oddly nostalgic. The bamboo & cabbage swimming in coconut curry was my entree. On its own, it is perfectly balanced with the right amount of salt, acid, and umami. I tacked on some sticky rice and Hmong hot sauce...use with caution! It's potent but so delicious. Given Diane's background in pastry, don't skip dessert! We loved our experience so much on Sunday for dinner that we very quickly made a brunch reservation for Tuesday. Connor and Simon were extraordinarily helpful and knowledgeable about the menu.
