Picnic Linden Hills has been on my list of spots to try for months. Went on a weekday during lunch and dined outside. It was a gorgeous summer day for picnic like foods. We ordered mocktails which were super delicious! Our server made a ton of recommendations and everything was absolutely fantastic. The turkey sandwich was delicious! The smoked salmon dip with old bay crackers was the perfect appetizer and the chips and homemade dip really hit the spot. I can't wait to go back and try out some new things! read more

Visited 11/8/25. Picnic crushed their lunch special option! A bit on the steeper size price wise, however it stands up with their "normal" prices for the most part (I think if they included chips or something it would feel like better value overall). We got takeout on this occasion which was slick, albeit a bit tricky due to parking in the linden hills area by this restaurant. I got the turkey in the hills sandwich and the tomato soup. Both of these were hits and were a good amount of food too. My mom got the same sandwich with the chicken wild rice soup which wasn't as much of a hit as the tomato but was still decent and then my sister got a veg sandwich with the tomato soup. We wanted to go for a cocktail before our dinner in the area, and Picnic has been on my list to try! SPACE There are a few 4-tops on the patio in front, a handful of bar seats inside with a small, cozy indoor table footprint, and a handful of 2-3 tops on the back alley. SERVICE The bartender told us to go find a spot on the back alley, so we did - but not sure we did things right, as our server walked past us a few times without acknowledging us. Service was friendly but limited. DRINKS They had a nice cocktail menu, but I opted for an Aperol Spritz. My husband chose off their limited NA menu a lavender honey lemonade, and it was a bit too sweet for him. I'd love to see some mocktail options here! FOOD We just got a few shareables since we were heading to dinner after, but their sandwiches were making my husband's mouth water! We got: Pickle Brined Wings - amazing flavor, salty and dilly, but I would have liked quite a bit more char on them: they were pretty pale. Minnesota Sushi - my husband loved this! Picnic is such a delicious restaurant in the Linden hills neighborhood. The drinks are so good and I highly recommend Banks' Butter Board. My husband and I both enjoyed our sandwiches. The menu is not very large and neither is the interior but the tastes and service are very plentiful! They do take walk ins but reservations are also available online up to 2 hours before your desired time. There is a very annoying parking lot on the side for all the shared businesses so I recommend trying to find street parking in the neighborhood instead! read more

after months (and months) of saying I'd go to picnic, I finally did the dang thing! ambiance-wise, not quite what I expected. with a name like Picnic, I pictured something a bit more open, collaborative, and communal. instead, it's "communal" in the sense that the space is tiny... you're not sitting with other tables, but you're definitely sitting near them not a dealbreaker, but a little extra elbow room would've been nice. service was wonderful and the menu was super fun. I walked in convinced I'd order the hot dog or bear sandwich, but our server talked me into pasta. I don't regret that choice at all. overall, a really solid experience and I'd absolutely come back (especially to try their lunch specials ). recap: meat & cheese board -- cheeses, dip, and pickles = the meats were just okay. would probably skip this and try another app next time. espresso martini -- tasty, but had a little too much coffee ground residue in the sip. chanterelle bucatini -- noodles were perfectly cooked, but the dish could've used a touch more flavor. mushrooms were fine, not standout. sweet corn cavatelli -- star of the freaking show. flavorful, chewy, absolutely delicious. Love the location, love the food and LOVE the ambiance. Perfect spot to stop in for an appetizer, drink, a meal or all of the above! I visited on a week day around 6pm. The location is fairly small but I liked how it was a little cozier. They had smaller tables and a community table which was nice because you could easily start up a conversation with your neighbor. Food and drinks were wonderful. We ordered a few drinks and split the French Hen Sandwich. The sandwich was delicious! They have a board on the wall where people can pay ahead and buy someone a drink for when they visit next. It's shows the buyers name and who the drink is for that they bought. If/when that person stops in they get their drink paid for. I thought that was a really fun idea. Tip: location is very close to Lake Harriet so you can easily go for a stroll before or after visiting! read more

Been coming to Picnic for a while, since it's one of my favorite spots. Everything I've had from the menu is delicious and very reasonably priced, especially for Linden Hills. I used to always get the Picnic Dog--the best hot dog ever! All beef, juicy, wrapped in cheese, in a brioche bun! Then I discovered their wings. Oh, let me tell you about these wings! The flavor is just incredible. I don't particularly like the flavors of most hot sauces used on wings, nor do I like that gunky texture it gives them. I never would've thought dill pickle brine and chili dry rub was needed, but now I know, and I can never think of wings the same. And why choose between ranch and bleu cheese when you can have a ranch bleu cheese sauce? An ingenious combination! I don't normally use so many exclamation points, I'm just so in love with this place. And they regularly rotate local craft beers, so I've discovered new favorites here. The only complaint I have is that the space is small, and often busy. It's sometimes hard to find a comfy spot and not feel crowded in and claustrophobic. But they do have outdoor seating, weather permitting. read more

Stopped by here after having a couple of drinks at the wooden ship. It was a nice day so we sat in the back in the little alleyway where they have a few tables. It's was an interesting seating arrangement. Quite unique. The server was super nice. For us our waters and the we started off with a couple beers and their wings. The food came out quick. The wings were pretty good. Not crispy like I was expecting but good flavor. The piri piri on top was pretty tasty. I would have liked them to be a little more crispy For the mains, we got the special which was braised beef cheeks and the steelhead trout. The food was tasty. The beef cheeks were tender and had a thick sauce. The trout was cooked well and a good piece of grilled fish. For dessert we had the chocolate cake which was tasty and big enough to share. It was tasty if a tad dry. The Madeira was not. Overall a decent dining experience with decent food and great service. A good addition to all the other eateries in the area. read more

Stopped in for an early lunch. I had the BLP? sandwich which is a BLT with a green tomato. Really excellent attention to details made a sublime sandwich. Exceptional sour dough bread ligtly buttered and toasted so both crisp and soft, very thin bacon in a thick layer with the excess grease removed, a green tomato adds a perfect pickled note, just the right amount of mayonaise to taste wirh evwry bite without dripping and a layer of very crisp green fresh shredded lettuce. Sounds simple, but the secret to a great sandwich is high quality ingredients assembled with care. Yup, they nailed it. Pleasant staff as well. read more

Adorable spot for a fancy night out. Not a ton of seating, but my friend and I arrived around 5 and had no issue snagging a spot. We shared a charcuterie board and wine. My wife and I were out on our weekly new restaurant Saturday lunch trek. We saw that Picnic opened recently and it was on our list. It was a perfect day in Edina and there was construction in front of the establishment, so we had a two block walk. I feel bad that they have completely cut off the street from traffic, but it was still pretty full at noon. It is a pretty small place, so my wife and I sat at the bar. I ordered a Size 7 IPA from Steel Toe, a place about a couple miles from here that makes great beer. We ordered an order of deviled eggs and the beef sandwich. Bartender was great at refreshing our waters and the food came out quick. The deviled eggs were perfect, really smooth texture and not bad for the $7.50 price tag. The beef sandwich had a ton of coleslaw on top with what seemed like fresh baked bread. The bread was exemplary and the beef had the wonderful taste of seeping in red wine. It was super tender and the red wine taste was just perfect. Highly recommended. Great lunch, I ordered a second IPA and it was $50 after tip. Try it out. read more

Food: 10/10 for everything. I dare you to find something on the menu you don't love. Even their drink menu is fabulous, including their N/A beverages. You absolutely should try their lemonade. Service: Super casual, which I generally love. Their team is really knowledgeable and it helps that their menu is limited enough that you can get great service that's also truly informed. Ambiance: Also amazing. I love the community table, and the outdoor seating is a huge plus. I sometimes wish the inside seating wasn't so tight (if you sit at the table by the bar seating, just know somebody's butt WILL be in you face.) Love the community vibes - they even have a "buy your friend a drink" board! Lastly, huge props to this team for being so actively involved in their community. Cute space in Linden Hills that centers around the bar. Simple and small menu that is more assembled than cooked (salads, charcuterie, dips). Better for a snack and drink than a meal. Started with the soup of the day (chicken corn chowder) that was pretty good. Also shared the apple prosciutto salad and deviled eggs with a friend. The deviled eggs were recommended by the server, and were nicely presented with a chili crisp paste on top, but were disappointingly bland and completely underseasoned. This is my second time at picnic and was absolutely delighted. My half sandwich of chicken with brie was delicious and the tomato basil soup was great. The service was wonderful. I watched a server bring out a bowl of water for a cute puppy and then an extra glass of water for the patron because she saw her dip a doggie stick into her water to give to the puppy and wanted to replace it. We sat outside on a beautiful day and I was so happy because I really wanted this restaurant to do well. My first time was not a positive experience, but this totally made up for it. Classic American food... done PERFECTLY... and with style. Their simplistic presentations are not only timeless, but intentional, highlighting the quality of their dishes. The flavors speak for themselves, requiring no flashy gimmicks or flashy designs (which is hard to find nowadays in newer, contemporary establishments). The care put into each menu item is apparent in every bite and observable from the open, single-chef kitchen in the back. We went for the first time for dinner last night and it was great! They had a Cambodian pop up so we tried the braised short rib over rice (incredible), the curry (was okay), the bok lahong (great flavor!) and the corn (also good). Our server was so lovely. Bryan (with a Y) was so attentive, he knew all the pronunciations of the menu items, and kept our waters filled the whole time. The only regret I have is sitting on the patio. It's a skinny alleyway between the restaurant and a fence surrounded by buildings, so there is no sun. Not a deal breaker, just wish we would have sat inside or out front! I needed a quick lunch after a medical appointment and Yelp guided me to Picnic. It was a nice fall-like day so I chose the quaint little patio. I had checked the menu prior to coming and thought their Hot Dog and Chicken sandwich sounded good. When I got here, I asked what the server and cook said and though they claimed to have the best hotdog in town, the server said the sandwich was her favorite and that "you can't beat that spreadable Brie" , and since I just had a heart monitor put on for high cholesterol, I opted for the Chicken over the beef. It was awesome. I wasn't super hungry, so I took half the baguette off thinking I would do myself a favor. I then noticed that that was, in fact, spreadable Brie on there so I ate it as an after lunch appetizer - it was really good. They have a solid NA beverage selection as well. I highly recommend it and look forward to coming back sooner rather than later for the Hot Dog, maybe when my numbers go down a little :). Best hot dog I've ever had! Different and familiar at the same time. Fabulous toasted bun. I enjoyed each bite. My son loved the wild rice soup and he's very picky about how it is made. The Bear sandwich was so delicious and so large that we had to take half home and it was just as good the next day. This restaurant will be a regular place for us to eat! read more
