Don't get the Pork!! I live fairly close but don't generally get teriyaki close to home so it's been a while since I've been here. It's still much better overall than the Toshi's in Kenmore. I was going home in the middle of the day and stopped to order Pork Teriyaki takeout. It was not Teriyaki!! At home I opened up a bright red Char Sui pork like bbq pork that was overcooked and dry and with an overwhelming garlic flavor. Really disappointing but I was hungry so I ate half of it before I had to tap out. My wife tried just 1 piece and said Yuk! This red dye and over seasoned meat left me miserable the rest of the day and overnight and often going to the rest room. Everything is red as beets if you know what I mean? The place is quite busy, service took a while so call in first, and really a dirty filthy location in one of Kenmore's only remaining retail spaces from the 50s. Great local teriyaki house - what a pleasant find. Called in to preorder the Chicken Katsu and Chicken Yakisoba. Upon arrival, we saw the mozzarella corn dog for sale at $3.99 and tried that too. Loved that corn dog - great value appetizer - crispy outside mixed in with smooth silky mozzarella in every bite. The chicken katsu was also delicious - very crispy tender and balanced with the soft fluff white rice. I can't confirm but it feels like they use some form of mochi flour given its consistency. The chicken yakisoba is also really good - well flavored with generous portions of veggies and chicken. We loved our meal. Parking is easy. You can dine inside in a casual dining setting. I hate to do this. The people who work there are so nice, but some of the food was simply not good. I was greeted warmly as soon as I walked in. The man was very friendly and patient with me as I decided what to get. I decided on the appetizer of six fried shrimp and the entree of teriyaki beef with fried rice instead of white rice. I took it to go. I live two blocks from the restaurant, so by the time I got home, my food was still very hot. The shrimp were fine. I mean, it was basic fried shrimp. It is something I would order again. The beef teriyaki was ok as well. It was served on skewers, which I didn't really like. But it did taste good. The teriyaki sauce was good, as well. The major problem was the fried rice. It had SO MUCH black pepper. It almost seemed like they accidentally dropped an open container of black pepper in the rice and couldn' get it all out. If I ever go back, which I probably will, I will avoid the fried rice like the plague! Overall, the food was decent. The restaurant was clean and well maintained. The music was playing, but not loud or overbearing. I waited for about 7-10 minutes to get my food, which is a completely reasonable amount of time. Yum, I visited on a whim while shopping in the area. A quaint interior with lots of available seating. It smelled delicious inside! I went with the chicken teriyaki and asked if she could make it spicy. It was perfectly flavorful. I also got a side order of goyza. They were crisp, and the sauce was perfect. It's definitely tucked away in an older complex in Kenmore but it wasn't too difficult to find and there is tons of parking. I noticed there are a lot of pictures of the menu on Yelp but I posted some fresh ones with current date pricing. I wouldn't come here for the ambiance. Was once a favorite stop and now we will not return. The food tasted old and mediocre at the very best. The beef was "old" tasting and the pork was not cooked enough. The orders were not fit to eat, we through it all into the garbage can. The restaurant is very very very dirty. Under the table kegs you can see the dirt build-up under the table legs. The tables are sticky and the owner just is not clean. The restrooms are the quality of a rest area and very disgusting. My husband went to Ichiban Teriyaki a couple of weeks ago to pick up dinner. He called them in advance to ask them if they could make the Shrimp Stir-Fry Gluten-Free for me. They were very nice on the phone, and they said that they could exclude the sauce and that would make this dish gluten-free. I appreciated how nice they were about accommodating me this way, however, I wondered how bland the Shrimp Stir-Fry would end up tasting without any sauce. Fortunately, it was very delicious. I didn't ask what oil they used, but it tasted a lot like sesame oil, which has a nice robust flavor. The meal stayed warm for about 20 minutes, and I love warm food (especially in winter), so I liked that too. My husband ordered the Beef Yakisoba. He said that he felt that this dish tasted great and he appreciated the amount of vegetables (plenty, but not too much) and the amount of noodles (also plenty, but not too much) so he felt that the dish was well-balanced in terms of portion sizes of the various components of it. We both got a small salad with our meal. My husband liked this. My husband is a fan of teriyaki in general, so he has frequented several different teriyaki restaurants, and he said that most teriyaki restaurants do not include a salad with their yakisoba dishes. The salad basically consisted of just lettuce with dressing, but the dressing was very good. We both thought our food tasted very fresh. We both thought it was a good value for the amount of food that we got. When my husband picked up our take-out order, he said that there was a "Masks Required" sign in the front of this restaurant. He said that all staff members were wearing masks. In addition, there was a tall plexi-glass barrier between patrons and restaurant staff, at the location where the patrons order their food. We are happy with the value, the customer service, the taste, and the COVID precautions at this location. I'm no expert in Chinese food, but this is the best Chinese food I've had! The chicken katsu with fried rice is the best item on the menu together with their side of egg rolls! Oh my... they're so good! The amount is plenty, I always have a little of left overs that I like to bring home and enjoy it later or next day. Plus the staff was very friendly I'm giving 4 stars for 2 reasons: the place itself is not very inviting, they have very random stuff hanging around, like bicycles inside the restaurant and such, and the one time I ordered online delivery the chicken katsu with fried rice, which is a modification cause it usually comes with plain white rice and instead they sent me with the white rice, that happened to be way less rice than when I get fried rice. We were super bummed when Yumiko in Bel Red closed right before Covid and have been trying to fill that void since. We went here to have a quick lunch after camp, and the food was fast, fresh, and tasty! My boys and I shared a chicken yakisoba and a chicken teriyaki. The price was a little higher than some of the other teriyaki places I like to go to and a drink or soup were not included, but I could tell the workers were really working hard in the kitchen as their kids were working on workbooks and reading. The portions were very well-sized and everything tasted great. My older son even liked the salad which he hardly ever does. Well, honestly, I don't know what is going on with these guys... They used to be great. I thought they were great, at least the pork and beef stuff I got there, etc. Plus the free water, etc. During Covid-19, one of the ladies there started getting really "snippy" about wearing masks unless you were actually eating, needing to have them on at all times inside the restaurant. Made sense, but not the severe tone in a way... Apparently, they (well, that one woman) are still rather snippy toward customers... Recently, they decided to just end service well before the 8 pm closing time. They told me that they were "out of food", and they told the other guy I was with (he went in after I did) that they were "closed", even though it was like 7:30 at the time, etc. I've had my vaccinations. So have most people. Covid-19 is almost old news at this point. When I go to a restaurant that has a sign saying "Open", I expect them to be open. If I'm turned away for some silly reason that makes absolutely no sense (how can they be totally out of all food???), what are the chances of me going back there? You guys tell me. I love this place! If you are looking for a casual setting with friendly service and delicious food, look no further. This is a fast-casual place with ordering at the counter so if you are hoping for something fancy I would look elsewhere. I come here on my lunch break and others who are doing the same dining in or picking up food to-go. I have tried the beef, chicken, and pork teriyaki. I have also tried the gyoza. Each meal comes with rice and salad. I usually get the discounted combo special meal of the day, and specify "spicy" teriyaki sauce. I really enjoy everything there. The chicken and pork have a slightly larger portion than the beef (comes on a skewer), but the beef is really delicious too. The people who run it seem like a family and are really nice. If they have raised their prices a bit over the years, I wouldn't hold it against them. And I'd rather see them raise their prices more, as the area gets more and more developed, than have to close down, as I love to eat here.
