Yum!!! Oh so yummy! We celebrated our 13 year wedding anniversary Friday night and indulged in the best dinner and then the best breakfast buffet!!! Service is top notch and food is perfect! With so many options, we decided to share the following: -mint julep -Stella Artois beer -Rosemary ciabatta with sugarcane whipped butter -fried green tomatoes (with lump crab meat so big I thought they were shrimp at first glance!) -shrimp and lobster bisque -side Caesar salad -barbecue shrimp and grits -creme brûlée with fresh berries All so delish! My favorites: the warm, fresh, and crispy bread with soft and seeet sugarcane butter , the lump crabmeat with 3 crispy fried tomato medallions, and the creme brûlée! I could have eaten a serving dish of that creme brûlée and fresh berries! I love the crunchy, caramelized top mixed with the creamy center. Then, for breakfast, we were immediately impressed with all the fresh fruit selections that tasted as good as they looked. We opened the chafing dishes to find bacon, sausage patties, grits, biscuits, pancakes, and scrambled eggs! Only momentary complaint was no biscuit for the gravy? My husband didn't ask though, and I bet they would have gotten some for us if he really wanted it. Oh and overall, the only thing that had me just slightly thinking 4 instead of 5 stars was no music?! We sat on the rotunda/veranda area, so perhaps it was just because we were not in the main restaurant. Don't remember hearing it while walking through the main part but no biggie. Ooooooh, this place!! My wife and I recently stayed at Nottoway Plantation for our 13th wedding anniversary. We knew about the on site restaurant, but I didn't know it was this good. I found it to be quite romantic. We sat in the rotunda with a beautiful view of the historic oak tree grounds. The walls of glass windows gave us a great sunset experience as we enjoyed spectacular food. We started with drinks. There were plenty of specials as well as any standard drink you may find: wine, beer, liquors, etc. My wife got a mint julep, it was STRONG, but I manned up and finished it for her. The appetizers, entrees, and desserts are all made with extremely good quality ingredients. In situations like this, you wish that you could sample everything because it all sounds good. Fresh crab and shrimp, good quality beef and chicken, and crisp vegetables gives their menu great credit. The food had great taste and presentation. That takes care of dinner, breakfast was a whole new ball game. Breakfast was either order off the menu or a decadent buffet. We chose buffet and were not disappointed. Fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits(stone ground), biscuits, oatmeal, and more and more. Even though some prices were a little much, the food and exceptional service made up for it. I loved it. We had really high hopes, but this was a big let down! We had a four-person reservation and we all tried different things. I had the crab and Brie bisque to start. It seemed like the crab had been sitting in the bisque for days! It was shredded up and definitely not jumbo lump crab meat. To make it worse, I came across four pieces of shell as I tried to eat the soup and finally gave up on it because of the excessive shells I kept finding. For me meal I got the crab, shrimp and avocado remoulade. There was multiple pieces of brown and wilted lettuce, all the seafood seemed old (absolutely not fresh), and again I came across multiple shells in my salad. The avocados were not ready and were unripe. It was a friend's birthday and we got bread pudding to share-- that was the best part, as it was decent. No one at our table was very impressed with their meal, but I'll only review what I ate. For a $100 meal, don't waste your money! The food nor the experience is worth it. read more

My parents and I stopped here for lunch after taking a tour of the mansion. The restaurant is very nice looking. Lunch prices weren't too bad. My parents both got the turkey club which was humongous! It comes with basically 4 stacked sandwiches and even after eating they had an entire order to take home because it was so large. I ordered the spinach salad with no mushrooms. It was a lot smaller than I expected and they put so many lives on it that it was so salty and almost inedible. I hate leaving a restaurant hungry. Luckily we were going to a wine bar that afternoon where I had a cheese plate that finally filled me up. I guess I just expected a lot more. read more

A great location for a wonderful meal - we were seated so that we looked out over the pond and the huge old oak. We also had the company of a heron who watched us as much as we did it. I enjoyed the Pan seared blackened redfish and boudin sauce with mashed potatoes, fresh green beans, and a crab and brie bisque that was wonderful!. Tim did a good job of taking care of us, explaining the menu and option. My dessert was a chocolate pecan pie tartlet (lots of crust in a tart which is close to heaven) - sigh!! We were not hurried through the meal, relaxed and savored each bite. The staff was attentive but not hovering. A great experience! read more

Excellent food, inexperienced service Everything from appetizers to the entrees were expertly prepared and tasty. The food came out quickly and was piping hot. The bread was fabulous. However, our waitress could not remember anything we ordered and had to come back several times to ask again, saying " I just want to make sure". It is ashamed just excellent food was paired with substandard service. My coffee was first served cold and next serve was hot but full of grounds. She knew it was full of grounds and apologized for the grounds when she delivered instead of rebrewing without grounds. We asked for no croutons on our Caesar salad and she admitted that she put the croutons in. read more

Get anything, you won't be disappointed. By the time we got to Nottaway we were at the end of our trip and wanting to be more frugal. We got the shrimp étouffée and shrimp and grits for dinner (shrimp dishes were the cheapest) but delicious! We also got two desserts, pecan chocolate pie and bananas foster cheesecake. Do it. Trying to be frugal again we went to a local grocery, butcher boy grocery 6 miles away, and got a bottle of wine to consume throughout the evening and champagne for the morning instead of paying for drinks at the hotel. No corkage fee, no fuss over needing glasses, corkscrew at the bar. We went over a holiday weekend but not days when there was a wedding there, I'd imagine it would be a different experience if they were full from a wedding while you stayed there. read more

Started with the crab and brie bisque, and the crab was not fresh and shredded throughout, instead of having lumps of intact crab meat. There were also multiple crab shells in the bisque. For my entrée, I had the fried green tomato salad with remoulade and lump crab meat. The fried green tomatoes, crab and remoulade were tasty, but the greens were wilted and had brown spots. Nottoway is beautiful, but the Mansion Restaurant was a let down. read more

The room is small and intimate, decorated with the look to fit in with the style and period of the rest of the house. It is small and intimate with candles on the tables, padded period chairs with fresh linens. A big plus is they know there can be issues with seating the patio, during events (there was a wedding) and they called our room to see what time we would like to make a reservation. The food was a bit pricey, but it is fine dining. I would recommend Le Cafe for during the day and the Ramsey for a nice dinner date. Overall, the entire experience at the Nottoway is very relaxing and romantic. We each had the fish du jour and a glass of wine. It was a perfect dinner, but not something we would do every night. read more

Husband & I had our 1st meal there about a week ago. Beautiful setting, friendly, attentive staff. They bring you fresh bread w/ 2 types of butter, crab cake app was yummy, red fish & duck entrees were great. Our first time to try duck & we ordered it medium as the server suggested. Crème brulee & pecan pie for desserts. Will definitely go back for special occasions. Next time we will sit in the dining room proper, not the porch area. What a lovely, gracious restaurant. We are staying at Nottoway Plantation and all I can say is...beautiful. The servers are friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The food, ahhhhh the food! Southern cooking with a flair. The special was butterflied steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Very yummy. Barbecue shrimp and grits had just the right amount of spice and the prime rib was oh so good. I highly recommend the bread pudding, so save room. read more

The setting was obviously beautiful but the food was equally impressive. Starting with the delicious fresh baked bread to the fantastic appetizers, soup, salad, and entree. I would be hard-pressed to pick my favorite. I have had crab and brie soup dozens of times and this was one of the best, if not the best ever. The fried green tomato appetizer was crispy and spicy on the outside with firm tomato on the inside topped with sauce containing big delicious chunks of crabmeat. My entrée was the duck which worked perfectly with the wild rice and blackberry sauce. Highly recommend this restaurant which we were told recently got a new chef and he is doing a fantastic job. read more

Ate there last night and had an excellent meal. The waitress was somewhat inexperienced and service was fairly slow but we were in no rush. This is the second time we've eaten there and had excellent food both times. I had the rack of lamb and my wife had the blackened redfish with Boudin dressing. The location in a beautiful antebellum mansion adds to the ambience. Overall I would highly recommend this restaurant for a Southern style meal with an interesting location. Such a let down! Upon being seated, my husband had ice water spilled all over his lap. It's not a huge deal, but you'd think the restaurant would've offered a complimentary drink or something. The crab cake appetizer was mushy and didn't taste fully cooked, even after waiting almost half an hour for it. Our main entrees were the red fish. We ordered the $24.95 version from the menu, but were charged for the $36 version which included crab on top. The waitress made it sound like that's how it came. Our pieces dramatically differed in size. Our side starch was supposed to be mashed potatoes, but they ran out and brought us rice pilaf instead without telling us. The pilaf was cold. Sunday nights come with free dessert with entree purchase. Well, it's actually free "cheesecake" and you don't get a choice in the dessert. I can't have dairy so that was a huge let down. They wouldn't let me order the dessert berry dish. Very misleading. Wine tasted like it was opened a while ago. Our vodka tonics also didn't taste like the vodka was the grey goose we ordered and paid for. We thought we had found a new date place, but we definitely won't be coming back nor recommending to anyone. read more

Drove all the way out there for lunch only to find out the staff closed the restaurant 45 minutes early during the lunch shift. They advertise until 2pm and the when we got there at 1:25 the front desk reception staff gave us walking directions to the restaurant. When we got there doors were locked to the inside dining room. Outstanding atmosphere. Attentive service. Seated in veranda with wonderful view of grounds. Crabcakes to start. Plenty of crabmeat and very tasty. I had the double cut pork chop (huge) which was cooked to perfection. Fresh vegetables were a nice complement to pork chop, well seasoned and perfectly done. Mardi Gras pasta was incredible. Loaded with sausage, chicken, and shrimp. Perfectly seasoned and generous portion. Peacemaker poboy had generous portion of shrimp and oyster. I tasted one of each and they were excellent. Berries Anglaise for dessert.....wow!!! Cream sauce was perfect complement to berries. Not too sweet so it just brought out flavors of berries without overpowering. Coffee is French press and was the perfect finish. Well worth the effort and it was noticed on first sip that this wasn't just brewed coffee. Service was top notch, very friendly and knowledgeable about menu. Both the Chef and manager came to the table to check on us which is a nice touch not done often enough by many restaurants. Prices are very reasonable and generous portions. Quality ingredients. Wife and I are staying onsite and the entire experience here has been....well perfect. Dinner on a Saturday night.. Started with a drink at the bar..friendly, pleasant setting. Dinner in the glassed in area.. The food was great, crab and Brie bisque, strawberry salad, then the Cajun three and Grouper. Food the best we'd had in Louisiana. Service was pretty poor to start with.. With only 6 or so tables taken in the restaurant you'd think the wait staff wouldnt have to ask " have you been helped yet?" as we sat wondering if the bread would be the only food we'd get. On asking what type of fish was a "redfish" I was told, "well its a kind of fish" (I had worked that out for myself). Moving onto the wine.. We asked about the local Muscadine from the Amato winery "I don't know I haven't tried that" it's somewhat perplexing to have to ask " well can you find me someone who does know about it then". A taste arrived and we decided against it..opting for Sterling Sauvignon Blanc instead and then watched her try to massacre the cork..Nige took the bottle off her and opened it himself..otherwise we'd be straining pieces of cork through our teeth... A great meal, let down by poorly trained staff who, if they knew the details of the menu weren't able to speak to it, or open a bottle of wine. read more

Very underwhelmed. We had high expectations but were disappointed at every level. The Sazerac cocktail did not resemble a Sazerac in the least. My Old Fashion was extremely weak and tasteless. We ordered the prime rib and it was over cooked and tough. The French onion soup and the crab remoulade, however were good (not great). Service was okay but we did feel rushed. Had to keep telling the waitress that we were not in a hurry and wanted more time. We loved everything about staying at Nottaway other than the restaurant. read more
