LOVED the food and the decor! Though the front young lady could definitely improve her attitude (very bored and always had a grumpy face). Quite a startling contrast to all the other employees who were so friendly!! There are also turkeys strolling outside! All the dishes we had were so BIG. As college students, that's definitely a treat! The highlights were the fried bread with penne dish and the fresh bread given at the beginning. I do have to say the risotto was quite bland....

Very nice atmosphere. The convenience of eating after seeing the houmas house was very nice. Unfortunately I could make the meal better -which is saying a lot because I am no cook. I had the orleans pasta with shrimp and unfortunately the shrimp tasted like the sea in a bad way. The Alfredo sauce was bland. The tomatoes and peas were no additions to rave about. Maybe it was poor ordering but for around 20$ any food on the menu should be to a level that is more than just edible.

A lil hidden gem! Bf ordered the Veal and it was cooked to perfection. Tender and juicy with a lightly breaded outer layer providing a light crunch. A bed of sauce was layered over the Veal + grits...just yummmm! I had the Bisque of Curry Pumpkin Crawfish & Corn. Creamy with a light hint of curry. A bit on the light side ( for me anyways...so I made use of the salt and pepper on the table..lol) we shared the Mint Julep Creme Brûlée. Presentation was really well put together but got a little too sweet towards the end...+ the bottom of the dish felt like it was pudding...so kinda had two different textures? Creme brûlée on top and pudding on the bottom...

Seriously worth the drive! Amazing food and ambience that takes you back to plantation times. The cafe is casual dining so no need for reservations and the staff is simply superb, knowledgeable and friendly. Will come back every time I'm in the area!

One afternoon, I was passing by this place, but I didn't have time to stop in and check it out. A day or two later, I went online and began to look up reviews. The reviews that I found were mixed, which sort of surprised me, because the things I had heard from a couple of my fellow local residence, were not very positive to say the least. But we kind of thought maybe that was due to the fact that the restaurant was fairly new, and I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, as I always like to support local businesses. A few days later, I passed by the restaurant around 5:30 to 6, which should have been peak dinner hour. I was the only one in the restaurant. They do not have any signage showing their restaurant items, nor do they have any standard restaurant menu's. There was a middle aged gentleman, sitting at one of the tables, looking at his phone, and I realized he was probably the owner, or at least one of the owners. He looked like he did not even want to get up to serve me. I decided then and there I was not going to order, but I did want to check things out. I asked him about menus and he said all he had was two paper printed menu items, without the prices, taped down to the countertop! Once again, no prices were listed! On items that were unavailable, having been either sold out, or never even cooked that particular day, there was actually a black mark through that item. I asked him if he had a copy of the menu that he could give me and a couple of extras for some neighbors. I was going to ask him if he had one that included the prices, but before I could say anything, he rudely said that they don't have any copies. I was going to ask him if I could take a photo of the items, but then I figured what good would that do? If the prices were not even listed, and the same items were not available each day. Also, I have been at restaurants where I have asked for a takeout menu, and they said they didn't have one, but would be glad to either print one out, or make a copy to give me. But I have never been at a restaurant that did not include any prices! I actually think this is the first time I have ever done a review on a restaurant without having actually eaten at the restaurant. But I felt strongly that people needed to be warned before they make a drive unnecessarily. I thought that the fact that there were no customers at a time that should have been peak dinner hours, should have been a red flag to begin with.

He said, "Next time you're in Gonzales, please stop by -- I'd love to meet you." So this past Sunday, Parker and I went in for brunch -- same time of day as before -- but this time we sat in the dining room, and the experience was completely different and absolutely wonderful. From the moment I walked in, Ava at the host stand smiled and said, "Oh, you're back!" and that right there is what I love about great front-of-house teams -- you feel remembered and welcomed. I asked if Jason was there, and it turns out Sunday is normally his day off, but he came in just to see us. That alone meant so much. He was warm, fun, genuinely hospitable, and made us feel truly cared for. And then Connor came by -- now sporting a mustache that somehow makes him look five years older -- but he recognized me right away and gave me a big hug. That kind of genuine connection says everything about the people who work here. Our server, Aaliyah, was phenomenal -- friendly, attentive, and always offering great recommendations with the best attitude. We started with Bloody Marys (which we loved), then ordered 3 pounds of crawfish, which also comes with corn and potatoes. It's early in the season, so they were lightly salty, but still absolutely delicious and perfect with the local draft beer we ordered (I believe it was from Parish Brewing). Such a great pairing. Parker ordered the half grilled shrimp with chicken gumbo, and I had the fried oyster po'boy with seafood gumbo -- mine was fantastic. His gumbo leaned a little salty, but overall everything was flavorful and satisfying. And then... Jason surprised us with king cake, just in time for Mardi Gras. He recommended strawberry and I also went with a classic because I'm a traditionalist when it comes to king cake -- and it was perfect. What really made the experience special was the atmosphere: families, couples, friends -- you could feel that this is a true community spot that people love. It was lively, warm, and full of good energy. Thank you, Jason, for going out of your way and turning a bad experience into an unforgettable one. Thank you, Aaliyah, for being such a wonderful server. And thank you, Connor (and that mustache ) for the hug and the warm welcome back. And thank you, Don's Seafood, for reminding me why this place is such a Gonzales staple. We'll definitely be back.

It is a staple of the I-10 corridor and Don's Seafood is a Lafayette standard now expanded to multiple locations. The Gonzalez, LA location is full of Cajun and traditional southern charm with a modern feel. I sat at the bar and got my Abita beer (my New Orleans go to) and a heaping plate of crawfish (standard 3lb order with corn and potato sides). Takes me back to growing up down south and well seasoned, not too salty or lip burningly spicy. Excellent size for early March as well (if you want mini lobster big, visit in early May). The bartender stayed attentive and made sure to get me the second Abita to wash it all down. Can't wait for my next trip!

We had no idea how right we were. The island was almost empty and the only people we encountered were state troopers sitting on the side waiting for some speeders. Further down into the island we had almost given up on the idea to have a "real" shrimp meal and turned around. Since it was time for a "natural" break we stopped at several places but they were all closed - except for one. When we drove on the parking lot a lady came out waving at us and asking us to come in. It was in fact the ONLY place that was opened selling beverages on Christmas Day. However, food was provided for free by the residents that came together to celebrate Christmas and they invited us to join them for their Christmas meal. We had ham and turkey, sweet potatoes, stuffing among many other things. What a great experience. Everyone was so friendly and kind that even the 90 minute trip to and from N'awlins was worth every minute. Thank you!

The Sunday Brunch Buffet offered an impressive variety, and everything we tried was delicious, especially the tender ribs, flavorful brisket, and the perfectly chargrilled oysters. The shrimp were a party in my mouth. The bread pudding was also arguably the best in the area. Slightly firm, but incredibly moist, topped with cream and apple slices. Also, Natalie went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our meal. We'll go back often and ask for her. I do also appreciate restaurants were it seems there are working together to and sure customers have what they need The only downside was the bar tender didn't offer smiles. She had a very firm and unwelcoming look that didn't seem to go with the rest of the culture.

We tried Boudin Balls that were stuffed (with cheese) and the regular. They were both outstanding but I'd say maybe the ones without cheese were better. It's hard to say because they were both very good. The smoked boudin was better in my opinion only because the casing dries out a bit it makes it crispy so we of course just ate it whole. The regular boudin has a casing that isn't crispy so we chose to just eat the filling. The inside was just as good as the smoked. We only tried the chicken cracklin's and holy cow were they good! Some pieces were real crispy while others were a bit bigger and still had some meat on them. There was a perfect mix up large and small pieces, crispy and not crispy pieces. I wish we had these in Michigan. We brought home some andouille so we could make jambalaya and gumbo. We just cooked some andouille, and it was a little bit spicy and so good. We also brought home some boudin and can't wait to cook that. Be sure to check out their freezer section and take home some different things. This place was such a gem to find! The staff was very friendly and helped us make decisions on exactly what we needed to try since we had never been before. There is seating inside if you're looking to eat there. We just ordered things we could eat on our road trip home as well as things to cook/eat later. I'm only complaint was that the bathroom was not very clean and the toilet didn't flush. That doesn't matter much because you should really be going here for the food! :)
