Beautiful presentation of the food but not the most beautiful cuts of fish. I ordered the sashimi salad which had a refreshing Japanese wafu dressing but the sashimi slices were quite smaller than what I had expected. Similarly, the slices on the nigiri for the Man Sun Special were quite thin and some of them were even cut like a rectangle. I'm not a sushi chef but I don't think that's how it's supposed to look. The quality of the fish was good but the cuts of the fish could definitely be better. However, I did like that it came with banchan since it is a Korean-owned Japanese restaurant. Cozy family friendly restaurant. They are located on a busy street so you can kind of miss them if you are driving fast. You can either street park or put it in a tiny lot shared with another business. Small restaurant with some private rooms to the side. Right away they offered water and hot tea. I was like what's that stuff floating around in the tea and tried to avoid the tea particles at first but realized they are brown rice and taste deliiiiicious. I uploaded a photo but I think there must be a better more appetizing looking one by another fellow yelper. Lol. I let it cool down and drank mine like a shot. Server said she couldn't help but notice me finish and would i like more. I was like hells yeah. I am so busy once the food comes out I forget to take pics. They start off by bringing a small salad to share. I loved the dressing. I'm not a huge salad person and I'm picky about the dressing but theirs was good. They also gave miso soup and about sixish side dishes or banchan which is the Korean culture. The side dishes were all very fresh and seasoned well. I ordered the soft shell crab. It was good but I would have preferred to have the sauce on the side and it be crunchier. Thats just me. I don't like my fried food to have any sauce on it cuz I'm like the crunchy police. Man Sun lunch special included sashimi, sushi, tempura and a super spicy tuna roll (or you can choose cali roll). I thought pricing was good. Next to us they ordered the uni bowl which looks super fancy like it's out of those food competition tv shows. I actually think I saw someone do that on an episode of Chopped. I also got the roasted Mackerel. Warning you it took a while. Literally came after we were done with everything else. But it's a healthy fatty fish and tastes yummy. So working in Walnut I'm always on the hunt for some good lunch to go that is affordable and healthy. Man Sun is the spot! I love Bento Boxes and a majority of the places in the area are closed during most of the week and charge a ridiculous amount. I am so so happy for finding Man Sun Japanese. Stopped by there yesterday to grab some lunch to go. I ordered on their website, $10 for the lunch special Bento Box and it comes with your choice of chicken, beef, or salmon teriyaki and includes tempura veggies, rice, salad, 4 piece California Roll, side of miso soup and some Korean side dishes. I got there in time for my puick-up, but they were running behind and hadn't seen my order on Yelp. The lady said next time to phone in the order and it would be a lot faster, so going to try that next time. Still got my order pretty fast. They also offer a Yelp Check-in and you can get free edamame. They seemed busy yesterday, so I didn't want to bother with it, but good to know and use for next time. There's some parking on the street, but the lot for the Farmer's Market next to it had plenty of parking so I parked there. Looking forward to coming here again soon for lunch! read more

On Mother's day, we arrived at this place after a failed experience at another restaurant. Thank God this place saved our Mother's day! It wasn't busy on a Sunday lunch. The staffs are nice and responsive. The lady even gave my kids some toys! The abalone porridge was amazing! The sashimi was ok. Seafood udon was great value. Complimentary ice-cream comes at the end. Our favorite was the scallop roll and the rainbow roll--the fish was fresh and tasty! You won't find the highest quality fish here, but you get other perks - free banchan, other Korean menu items (the daegu tang is a fave), and the ever-friendly owner who always brings a smile. The uni bowl is always delicious, although somewhat small (because of the single serving of uni) that disappears so quickly! I like the sushi/sashimi combos that comes with rolls and tempura. A handful of us didn't enjoy the side dishes as much and I thought it was a waste to give the sides out to people who most likely wouldn't eat it. It's probably be a good idea to confirm with people who ordered if the side dishes as they are would be something they'd like or if they can swap them out with something else. This is the worst udon I have ever had in my life. It looks like the chef forgot about it in the pot. The noodles were so overcooked that they were falling apart, and I could barely pick them up with my chopsticks. The tempura was cold and unevenly battered; one was falling apart. I cannot believe they spooned this into a bowl and served it. Slow service due to short staff I can understand -- but this chef clearly has no pride in the food they serve. read more

Oh my gosh I did not want to review this place like this because this was my all time favorite place to eat at when in Los Angeles for the price and value that is given. If you were a seafood lover this was the spot... I don't live in Los Angeles but in a land far far away and so this was always a special treat from... So to start the special is now 60 bucks which is ok I don't mind but the food quality sucks... the special is what you always order here and the chef have never gone wrong... sushi was definitely fishy... the once lobster sashimi is now gone... there was no salmon head but replaced with two mackerels... one good the other firm and chewy... lol not sure if they were show casing the two different types? One edible one inedible... Ok the saving grace for this meal is there is an in and out burger right across the street... we are heading there right now to eat... Sadly after 7 years and at least 9 trips here this disappointment does not even begin to describe how sad I am about this place... The people/owner and servers are nice... no knock there... just sad about the food quality... this place was so good... I'll try again in a few years if only reviews get better... read more
