Mantle Tattoo was amazing. First and foremost, the artist, Iryna, was incredible, and I could not be happier with my new tattoo!! After I sent over my deposit, I met with her virtually to go over ideas for my design, and she worked up the art before my appointment. She even moved the appointment up an hour to give us more time to finalize the design and placement. As for the work itself, it's amazing. Iryna is clearly a very talented artist, and it shows in her work. She was also very attentive to making me feel comfortable throughout the 6+ hour appointment, which was really great. The shop itself was very clean, and my interactions with the staff and setting up the appointment were professional, smooth, and easy. I mostly corresponded through the shop's email, and they were very accommodating with scheduling and answering my questions. They also took my photos and general intentions for Iryna to be able to access during our appointments. I really appreciate them scheduling the virtual consultation before I came in-person. They also gave me a very reasonable estimate for the work! All in all, it was a super pleasant experience. My final note is only to do with payment. Mantle offers several methods to pay your balance, like venmo, zelle, and they have a credit card reader. Through no fault of the shop, Zelle blocked my transfer attempt, so a piece of advice to clients is to have backup payment methods available to save time. The credit card option was a nice backup, but the credit card terminal does charge a service fee. read more

I got a few tattoos from an artist here last August, it's almost been a year. I asked for delicate, light grey/ diluted fine line tattoos and showed him pictures and he said we would make them like that. Afterwards, they were done completely black and dark. The lines were also not great. I've waited about a year and they have not lightened (which I figured), but waited anyway. I reached out to see if there was anything that could be done and I was offered a touch up but that's not going to fix how dark they are. I was also informed this would be sent to management/ hoped for a refund? I hate to be a pain and I have never left a bad review before. I'm now spending a ton of money to have these tattoos removed because of how dark they are. I'm super bummed and wish someone would've reached out to me about this and offered some help or a refund :( read more

*No way to contact staff via phone *Staff is NOT at ALL friendly *Ona is EXTREMELY and unnecessarily heavy-handed, which resulted in raised scarring and prolonged healing time. I understand it was a coverup, but the inked areas she covered weren't much. The old tattoo was basically a bracelet of fine lines. There was a lot of skin that was "virgin", so there was no reason for her to dig as deep as she went, and I really didn't need her to keep telling me, "1 hour of pain is worth a lifetime of beauty, "...with a smile on her face as if she enjoyed administering the pain. *Ona also tried to overcharge me ($700) grossly. I still ended up paying $500 + 20% tip for ink that took about 1.5 hrs and was mediocre compared to the other work she has posted. * Bathroom access for clients is unacceptable. They give you a key with vague directions to exit the salon and enter into the dirty, abandoned business building next door, to guess your way, all the way to the back where the restroom is located. It is not clean. It is not safe. *No parking or any validation offered for the (not so cheap) neighboring lots. Ona was no friendlier when I returned for my complimentary touch-up. Which was supposed to have been scheduled months prior, but healing time was exceptionally slow for aforementioned reasons. I thought since it was a touchup it would be quick and relatively less painful than my first session, but knew it would hurt because it was my wrist, which is very petite. It was quick all right, because she rushed through it sloppily and It felt like she dug in even deeper. Although this time around, it seems to be healing quicker, it is definitely raised and looks like the scarring will be permanent. I am still kicking myself for going back to Ona for the touchup. I cannot in good conscience recommend Ona. She is a straight up sadist. Mantle needs to vet their artists more carefully. Hiring decisions should not be based solely on their work; it's equally important to consider how they interact with the public and clients, as this aspect is crucial to the job. Because of my experience with Ona, I will never step foot in this twilight-zonish tattoo parlour again. read more

Mantle has a couple of locations downtown. I went to one they just leased off of South Olive Street. The owner/artist was very communicable about setting up the appointment, which location to go to, and replied to my text messages in a timely manner. If you go to the studio off of Olive, there's a parking area across the street for $5. The studio can be hard to find (they didn't have a sign that you can see from the street). The artist I had was actually visiting from Seoul and they did an amazing job. He didn't speak much English, but his work speaks for itself. It did 1.5 hours to redo the design I wanted (we went back n forth) and to set up, which kind of sucked because my tattoo took 4 hours so it was 6.5 hours total there. The artist was nice and they had a nice setup to take a photo of your tattoo afterwards. The cost wasn't costing me an arm and a leg either. It was $1,300 for the realism tattoo on my arm. I absolutely love it, especially the galaxy. I would recommend him 10/10. read more

I just got my hand tattooed by Ona, and she was absolutely wonderful. She took the time to make sure it was what I wanted, gave me her opinion on size and how it would heal (which helped me choose the best size), and she was quick without losing any quality. Avoid this tattoo shop. The owner/manager isn't on-site and communicates via text, which led to major miscommunication. They initially quoted $150 for two small fine-line tattoos but then changed it to $150 per person when we arrived. Don't be sketched out by the lack of information about the studio, extremely fast response times, and suspiciously good reviews--this place is not a scam! On Thursday afternoon, during a visit to LA, I was feeling a bit bored, and so naturally the best thing to do was to book a last minute tattoo appointment. I've been on a mission to fill any empty spaces on my right arm, so I went with the most original design--a butterfly. I searched around for any parlors that accepted walk-ins or had quick appointments, as I would be leaving on Monday. After a Google search, I found Mantle Tattoo and liked the work that I saw on Instagram from them. The staff at Mantle Tattoo booked me for Saturday evening right away. That's how quick they are! My tattoo artist, Minji, or tattooist_ch on instagram, was very kind and accommodating. She sketched out the tattoo with me, taking note of all my requests, and within 10 minutes we were ready to go! The actual tattoo process itself was smooth and virtually painless. Minji has a very gentle hand so I barely felt it when she was tattooing me. It was cool to watch her process and see how she made it all come together. I'm very happy with the end result that I got! Additionally, I asked Minji if she could touch up some of the lines on my jellyfish tattoo (done by another artist who is not local) and she was more than happy to accommodate my request. Mantle Tattoo is a great place to go whether you need a quick fix for your tattoo addiction like I do or want to get your first tattoo. Aaaaamazing. I got my first tattoo here and was obviously very nervous about the pain. Start to finish this was the best experience I could hope for. I sent in my request along with details and reference photos. Within a day they got back to me and helped set up an appointment. Whoever is booking the appointment was super fast and friendly. I was able to get the appointment within a couple of days (I'm from out of state so this was ideal). I go to the location in little Tokyo and get there a bit early where I'm met by my artist, Moondal. After a bit of paperwork we go over his design and I'm IN LOVE. This was so much better than I could have come up with on my own and hit all the points I wanted. He was open to one small adjustment too. Super sweet guy. Overall I think everything took about 2 hours and I honestly fell asleep during the tattoo. Really gentle and light handed, plus the details are fantastic. Expensive and downright worth it! These guys are incredible artists. I moved down to Southern California a year ago and I can't go to any other tattoo artist again. I got a piece done with one of their artists named Jun and he is absolutely incredible. His line work should be charged for more at this rate and when I saw their instagram I wasn't sure and even thought it was photoshopped. But their instagram doesnnt even do them justice. The pieces are even better in person, their hospitality is incredible. If you're looking at coming here for a tattoo the only warning I'll give you is be prepared to come back because I had a friend come here and they made the same decision of abandoning their old artist for these guys. read more

My sister and I decided to stop by yesterday for matching tattoos. This was her first and my 7th but I had been to other shops. The availability was great and they responded to us quickly via text. I have mixed reviews about the location. Parking was a mess (its downtown so that was expected) but we were so ridiculously excited and didn't care. While the tattoos came out beautiful (check out the pictures attached), it was way too pricey for what we got. We paid $250 EACH for a design that is no larger than 2x2. Again, we are so in love with the art but the price will definitely keep me away from this location. We began asking why it was so expensive considering it was line work, black and white, and small. Also, originally our tattoo artist, Suho, quoted us each $150. However Suho spoke very little English and while we wanting to gain more insight into the big change in pricing, we had run into a dead end. Again, we are so happy with what we got. But, we do not plan on coming back here for future tattoos. read more

I had the best experience here! It's a very clean facility, and when booking appointments they are super swift! I literally booked a same day appointment and got a decent quote on my piece. Don my tattoo artist was super awesome, kind to talk to even though there was a slight language barrier, respectful, and incredibly skilled. I actually came back AGAIN within a couple days just to be tattooed by him and get a different piece lol. I asked if he could change my tattoo style to a more traditional style last minute & and he was more than willing! Even gave suggestions on placement which thank goodness I took his word for it cause my original placements for my tattoos.. I would have been unsatisfied if I went with what I wanted haha. I'm already looking forward to him coming back from Korea to do a bigger piece for me. No matter what tattoo artist you get or choose, they are all incredibly good & experienced with their craft and also very detailed with their work. I also love all of the artists own tattoos hahaha it is hard not to stare & be in awe of the hours of work they probably had for their own. Vibe on a Saturday afternoon was non existent. I was the only customer. The artist they gave me, Ona, was very gruff and tried to massively overcharge me. Her work is ok, but she didn't even have to draw my tattoo as I had pictures that she overlaid on her iPad and she tried to charge me $700!!! I refused to pay that much and she brought the price down but seemed pretty pissed about it and was really rough while tattooing and didn't speak one word to me. Bad experience for sure. read more

This was my first time at this location and it was a wonderful experience! My artist was Don Kim and he was great. He helped me with the script and lettering for my tattoos and was very precise when it came to the actual tattooing. Both of my pieces came out exactly as I wanted them to. Don even noticed that two of my older tattoos done elsewhere weren't looking too great so he touched them up for me. Overall 10/10 experience! So after diner just like every regular human being I wanted a tattoo for dessert. I was down the street and noticed there was a tattoo shop there so I went to go check it out, and to my surprise there was a group of guest artist from Korea that happened to have an available night. The owner of the location was very nice and said I should check out the work which I did and shout out to my boy REM (guest artist) ig: tattooist_rem for helping me out in such a short notice. I told him I wanted to Gengar and told him I wanted to look DOPE so he said okay give me a bit and let me see what I come up with and this was the end result. I will say he has a pretty light hand couldnt really feel anything and his attention to detail to me was pretty good. Overall the vibe of the shop was pretty dope open conversations with everyone offered water/drinks and super friendly so what more can you ask for. Also it is a bit of a hidden shop it is on the second floor of a building in little Tokyo in a little studio so you won't be able to see from the outside but if you do find it I see you guys go check it out. read more
