I recently had the pleasure of getting a tattoo from Rick Schenk. He does amazing work and is a super chill guy to talk to while he does his thing. I knew when I walked in that I wanted one of Rick's flower ladies. He worked with me to choose elements of stencils he had, then he went back and drew me a custom one on the spot! rick is one of my favorite tattoo artists in LA! i had followed his work for a long time... when i finally bumped into him and started talking we hit it off immediately and started collaboratively coming up with ideas for a small cover up/back piece. by the time we were done talking, i gave him some additional hints of what i wanted and he legit came back with three options for me to choose from! So I came across this place and I'm glad I did , in a super chill part of sunset blvd clean area which is a plus. Now for the shop, I was happily surprised to see how clean and orderly this place is compared to some other shops . Super friendly staff made it comfortable to chill before my artist was ready . It took me months to find a tattoo artist that had the aesthetic I was looking for. I actually found an artist at another studio who had that feel but turned me down because he didn't do "text art" (text was a portion of the floral piece I wanted done). It wound up being quite serendipitous, because that led me to finding D'mon and taking my initial, smaller vision of the tattoo and turning it into an insanely beautiful floral sleeve (with the text as a minor player). D'mon's attention to the smallest details is what makes his art come to life. His ability to do intricate nature and minimalistic linear pieces is extraordinary, but it's when he morphs the two together that you see these three-dimensional elements interact harmoniously with the flat planes and basic shapes. I've recently completed a massive and exquisite tattoo covering the chest and stomach. The artist was D'Mon. Like most great tattoo artists I was placed on a long wait list. It was worth every second and every penny spent. D'Mon's demeanor operates between ultra professional and approaching somewhere near the realm of a sage. In other words, you walk away from his sessions feeling like it was more than just getting tattooed. We ended up sitting between 15 - 20 hours over several sessions. He obsessed over the design like I want a tattoo artist to do. When I began I was quite nervous about several sharp needles hammering it out on my solar plexus. But like something of an unspoken coach he checked in with my state of mind before, during, and after the session and adjusted accordingly. In the bravado world of the ancient art of tattooing this is a rare and nearly miraculous trait to behold. As a result of this attention and care I finished this experience feeling good about myself like I'd climbed a mountain within the Obsidian walls. So I really can't say enough about both physical and mental attention that went in to this tattoo. But I can say enough about his artwork. Just ... 'damn.' 'Nuf said. But don't listen to me.
