Love the concept of Manuel's but it seriously lacked in execution. Beautiful location in a nice neighborhood is all it has going for it. I've been to Manuel's a few times with friends and had the same problems each time. The service is lacking. Long wait just to have a drink order taken from a less than friendly server. The food as described is amazing but when it arrives at the table, which will be a while prepare for a wait, it's bland. If you want to eat somewhere where you are assured of poor service, over priced bland food, then Manuel's is the place for you. read more

First off, hats off to the chef. Our food was great! We ordered the classic Reuben, American burger, midnight dream cake, & the 5 flavor pound cake. No complaints on lunch food whatsoever. The midnight dream cake was so phenomenal, I would consider driving the 25 minutes for it again. It was moist and captured so many varieties of chocolate, but it wasn't so rich you couldn't finish it! :D The 5 flavor pound cake had good flavor; however, the piece we ordered was terribly dry... We think maybe they just wanted to get rid of the final piece (as this was the last one left). We have to assume this was a fluke considering how fresh everything else was. I will say this: the manager is very helpful. She saw me eyeing the desserts while waiting for my food & when I told her I'd never been there, she explained it ALL to me. That was so sweet and personal coming from a manager. On that note, she also delivered our food to us. :) The only true complaint we have is that our service was very bad; although, when we spoke to the manager, she was very quick to apologize, discount our bill and tell us that it was our waiters 2nd week on the floor. Party of 6-duck breast salad was very good. However we all had steaks as well and all were tough (didn't seem like good cuts of meat to be honest) and tasteless (or too much on the pepper in the steak for 2) and 3 were either under or over cooked. Service was very very slow and unorganized. Very small place too. I don't suggest bringing strollers or wheelchairs unless you can eat outside. We spent $250 on food and $220 on wine - wine was the best part of the entire meal. read more

I took my mom here for her birthday. She is French and has a very selective palate!! She absolutely loved her lunch. She described her salad's vinegrette as "buttery woah!" The entire meal was very very fresh. To top it off the service was EXCEPTIONAL! We were slightly inconvenienced when we arrived due to some construction and a kind gentleman paid for our bill. First off, let me say that I have loved this place for years. Today, my wife and I decided to treat ourselves by going to their Sunday brunch only to be severely and continuously disappointed. When we arrived, no one bothered to greet us. We stood in the front door for about five minutes until we asked one of the servers if we had to seat ourselves and she replied with a generic "someone will be with you shortly". So we waited patiently. When we were seated, we felt rushed to order and eat our food. While the food was delicious, the service was poor. As we finished our meal I was not asked if I was done and our server, Taylor, picked up my plate without asking. He apologized the first time. Taylor returned within a couple minute. I clearly was not finished but he picked up my plate anyway (once again without asking) and said he would return with our check. He came back quickly with the check. We felt extremely rushed when their were many tables available and honestly, no need for such treatment. Who takes away your food before asking? Needless to say we enjoyed the food. It is unfortunate since I've loved this place for quite a while. However, due to the lack of customer service and attention to detail, we will not be returning. read more

Recently visited Manuel's for dinner. Carrie was our server and she was fantastic! We ordered the boeuf bourguignon and angel hair pasta with shrimp. Both were absolutely delicious! We also had the mini Oreo dessert and creme brûlée. Omg! The creme brûlée was greeeeat and the smoothest I've ever had. The restaurant is very intimate and in such a cute, quaint neighborhood. We definitely look forward to our next trip back and hope Carrie is working then. She really made our night special with her awesome attitude and customer service! read more

I'm a Hammond's Ferry resident. My wife and I have lived here the past two years. The following commentary is based on many, many, many visits to the restaurant for dinner, lunch, wine and dessert and Sunday brunch. I'm triggered to comment due to a recent visit. I'll first say the food is fantastic. For the CSRA, there are limited opportunities for such fine food. I'm sure anyone who's lived in a larger metropolitan area would agree. In the time we've lived here, the menu has expanded including desserts. Yes, I'm one of those people who walks across the street, just before Manuel's closes, to pick up a wonderful slice of "Sweet and Salty" chocolate cake. Again, the food is great and we enjoy the beauty of a small neighborhood cafe. I'll now say something I'm sure many visitors have noticed --the service is more than below average. Wait staff struggles in the the most basic of service industry skills. Nearly all the wait staff have no understanding of fine food, let alone wine. Asking them how something is prepared is a waste of time. Yet this is understandable and acceptable in a relatively small community where the employee selection pool is shallow. The greater issue is the lack of apparent training the wait staff exemplifies in taking care of customers. Many times we've come to the restaurant and waited for a table. It's unclear who the host is, or who's responsible to manage the seating. All hell breaks loose when the cafe gets busy. We walked out after watching two staff argue over whether the three of us could be seated at the larger circle table inside the cafe. We've also been stymied by the lack of attentive service when the restaurant is slow, such as between lunch and dinner. On our most recent visit one staff was more interested in writing the dinner specials on the chalk board. She told us dinner options weren't yet decided or ready for service. Ok, fine. But then another staff told use we could have filet when we asked. As we sat at the bar waiting for our meals we were never offered a drink, glass of water, nor simple kind banter that you might expect in a neighborhood restaurant. We watched as four wait staff chit-chatted in the restaurant amongst themselves waiting for the dinner rush. I've seen more professional behavior at a Wal-Mart. In short, Manuel's Bread Cafe lacks in service to the point I'm not going to return anytime soon. If this restaurant wasn't across the street from my home, I wouldn't return period. read more

Manuel's bread cafe in north augusta features in its website an "every Tuesday and Thursday wine tasting " and tapas. Disappointingly, after a 20 min waiting on a table to be served, the very unexperienced waiter informed us that there was no wine tasting today...But it's thursday,right? Yes, but no wine tasting today...PLEASE GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER. Having ONLY a nice ambiance is not enough. Of all the eateries with out door seating in the CSRA this is by far my favorite. From the gorgeous views of recreated early American Architecture Homes to the authentic and creative dishes made from locally grown produce to finally the scrumptious deserts you just can't go wrong. I had lunch hear and the afternoon sun was beaming across the patio like gold and orange beams of light from a brilliant grand stage light. Although when seated I was directed to the side where the sun had not yet reached and so I was grateful for the propane heaters that line this side. I started my meal with the New French Onion Soup and is much better than I anticipated. The palate was quickly overcome with the tantalizing flavorful creation. For the main dish I had the blackened trout on a multigrain roll and the side salad of fresh greens from their garden nearby. Everything was delicious. They bring freshly baked bread out before your soup and although I did not try it myself I was assured by my companion that it was warm and delicious. For desert I chose the Orio Cheese Cake and I must say I was grateful that it came with two forks because it was too rich for one alone. This cake was so good I almost wish I'd had it first. If you love cheese cake and easily spot the imitators or duplicators you will not be disappointed. Come hungry and leave beyond content with your meal. read more

This is probably one of my favorite restaurants here in Augusta. My husband takes me here whenever we want a delectable meal. Its in a very sweet part of North Augusta. Excelent service, delicious food, and nice music. I came here for breakfast and my husband had a steak salad because he's not a fan of brunch. He said the steak was delicious, him being Argentinean I trust him! I highly recommend this for a different kind of place in Augusta, especially because of its nice location. This restaurant is a great place for a special night. Whether you sit indoors or out, the atmosphere is wonderful. The staff is always very friendly and the FOOD, let's not get started...it is amazing. What I really love is all of the different specials that they do with their own locally sourced vegetables and other farm products from right down the road. Half the time I don't even get to the main menu... Good selection of wine and beer, but save room for dessert! If you have enough people in your party, I suggest the dessert sampler where you get three half pieces of cake, great way to try a little of everything. read more

I have traveled all over dining in some of the worlds best restaurants and consider myself a connoisseur when it comes to food. I have heard about the french restaurant in this charming neighborhood for the past few years but until last week I have not had the opportunity to dine there. Lets just start by saying I will not make it back. The neighborhood and the atmosphere are fantastic but the dining experience was one of the worst. The fact that it is called Manuel's Bread Cafe and they do not serve their own bread makes this establishment a joke in my mind. The owner should be ashamed of the presentation of arrogance and lack of culinary skills that are shown in this facility. Personal pride in business, the quality food prepared and the professionalism of staff are all elementary features of a restaurant that are missing from this one. read more

After a friend in the neighborhood told me about Manuels a couple years ago, I decided to try it out for myself. I loved the place. Now I make it point to go there whenever I'm in town for the Masters. In fact, this year I went twice and enjoy a nice meal, glass of wine and a good book. I thought the service was very attentive and pleasant. I loved the whole experience. And, on my way out of town I stopped by for take-out. I look forward to going there next year. Went there on Christmas Eve with a group of 12. Service was ok. I ordered French onion soup and the shrimp gnocchi. Neither were very good. The soup was way to salty and thin and watery. The gnocchi was heavy, doughy and not at all appetizing although the shrimp were good. The server said that it was fried. That may have been the problem since it left a bad aftertaste. The server didn't remember to offer bread until we were nearly finished eating. For the price, it wasn't worth it and I won't go back. read more

I feel like they're doing some things well but there are some things that could use a little work. This place tiny so if you are seated inside things are a little tight. Outside is a little more roomy. No cocktails and not an extensive wine list but you can definitely find a great wine or beer to sip on. Menu is about $ 2 - 5 overpriced depending on the item. Pasta seems to be hand made if that's your thing. The pheasant seemed like a missed opportunity. It was a hair over cooked but not worth sending back. Farm raised so no game bird taste but it might as well had been chicken. The sauce helped with the dryness so it wasn't a horrible dish but had it been served in a different preparation it could have been made the star of the dish - order something else. The leg of lamb was fabulous with a really great port jus, ask for extra port jus. I can see the attraction of the location if you live in the neighborhood but if you don't live within walking distance you could most likely find something equal or better. read more

I try to only leave positive feedback at places that I visit, but our recent experience at Manuel's Bread Cafe in North Augusta was really mediocre at best and downright unacceptable most of the time. We have visited the cafe before for brunch and lunch services, which have been great; however, our experience for dinner on August 6, 2016 was abysmal. The beer that my husband was served was room temperature, but the waiter replaced it with a cold bottle when we pointed it out. As we proceeded through dinner, the problems kept arising. We ordered the Tomato Caprese, which was supposed to be served with bread and "sweet butter" - we were surprised when the salad appeared with no bread to be found. When we pointed that out, the waiter brought bread, no butter. For entrees, we ordered the angel hair pasta, which was completely over cooked and mushy. The Steak Frites came complete, still wrapped in plastic, and gray in color. My sister-in-law legitimately thought it was pork the whole dinner service. The Chicken Picatta came with no sauce, which was "fixed" by the waiter bringing a half a lemon to squeeze over the top of the chicken - needless to say it was inedible. Lastly, the Boeuf Bourguignon was fine, not fantastic and not bad, but fine. We talked to the manager about the problems we encountered during service, and the most they did was apologize and discount the steak. It would have been nice to have been offered some complimentary coffee or even a more sincere approach to fixing the problems with the meal. Unfortunately, we probably won't be returning. read more

I am not a fan of buffet meals. That being said, Manuel's produced a flawless Mother's Day brunch buffet - flawless. I was simply overwhelmed. I was dreading a crowded, cramped, loud restaurant with mediocre food. What I experienced was a quiet, fluid, exquisite meal. I could not have been happier. I was with my Mom in a two top. We were a bit nervous about the prospects of being "squished" between larger parties. We were between two large tables, but both were not seated until we finished our meal. The service was great. We had reservations (they were required for this particular meal) and were seated immediately. The dishes on the buffet were absolutely delicious. The smoked grilled salmon was worth the price, and that was only one of MANY delectable offerings. There was a caesar salad, a cobb style salad, grilled asparagus, potatoes, roast pork and too many more to mention. The dessert was to die for and we finished with a great cup of brewed coffee. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant for the quality of food. I loved it so much I returned for lunch later in the week - I had the best hamburger - EVER- and wonderful fries and dessert. North Augusta should be over the moon to have such a culinary gem in their midst! read more
