I came with a group of people to celebrate our birthdays, and I'm so glad that we did. From the beginning to the end, I really enjoyed the whole experience. The bread with butter was delish, and my cocktail (a hybrid delish take on a Moscow Mule) was perfect. I ordered the half pound shrimp and a crab cake. WONDERFUL. And get the mint Parmesean vinaigrette on your salad. You won't be disappointed. Usually, I take pics of my food, but I'm sorry ya'll...I forgot. It was DELICIOUS and I couldn't stop. Delectable. Divine. Delish. Our server, Jacqueline, was amazing and I'll come back more often to be served by her. Food was good. Not sure if our young server was new or not but it seemed she was trying too hard. We were brought to our table and my wife went to the rest room before sitting. The server came over to me and asked if we wanted appetizers. I explained that I just sat down and my wife was in the restroom. I asked if she could start by bringing us water. She did so immediately. As my wife returned to the table the server came over and again asked if we wanted appetizers. My wife explained that she did not have an opportunity to look at the menu and could she give us a minute. She literally returned in a minute and asked again. We needed to put her off again. Within a couple of more minutes we chose our dinners and the server returned as soon as I waved her back. We placed our meal order. We first had gumbo and soup. She was back with this in a matter of minutes. Before finishing our soups she came with the salads. Half way through the salad our entrees were delivered to the table. I think she believed she was doing good by getting everything to us quickly but we definitely did not have a relaxing dinner. I guess I should be blaming management for the lack of training. The food was good but the rushing ruined the experience. I will try it again and be up front about slowing it down. Had lunch with friends at this place for the first time. I had never heard of it before and honestly after eating there I wish I could forget I ever had. The food looked like it was from a school cafeteria and left me with a stomach ache. From the ambience, to the food and the service, it was all sad. Just flavorless, frozen and packaged food. It's been the better part of 15 years since the last time I visited French Market Grille/West. I don't remember being blown away the first time I went, but I also don't remember it being overwhelmingly terrible. Went there recently for a friend's birthday and was part of a large party comprised of 12 people. Ambience: Generic and underwhelming. Strong "Fatz" vibes. Nothing thematic for what they claimed to offer. Not bad, but not memorable Service: We had two servers that tended to us during our visit. One server was actually quite nice and attentive, the other...not so much. We had one member of our party with a severe (anaphylactic) shellfish allergy, We had asked if they had non-fried options to cater to them as we were aware they had fried shrimp and it was the safer path. We were offered a steak with a side which my Father In Law opted for. Yes, a Louisiana restaurant and a shellfish allergy seems like an obvious issue, but it would be reasonable to offer options for such situations. The aforementioned "less than great" server seemed disinterested in the severe shellfish allergy of our family member, and didn't do much to ensure the concerns were addressed, but more on that later. Food: The potato soup was good. End of positives. The steak was a $45 cut of less than optimal quality. It was cooked medium rare for the first portion, but somehow managed to get to well done as it approached the bone. When my FIL asked for mashed potatoes, they were brought fries. When asked if the fries had been cooked in the same oil as the shrimp we were told "you should be good". Not wanting to risk having to administer epi-pens to someone in their 60s, we asked for another option. We were offered chips, which were nothing more than a bag of potato chips. A $45 improperly cooked steak with a side of packaged chips. His spouse ordered a spinach salad with bacon which, at $15 was nothing more than a side salad and was missing a key component: the bacon. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak which was more dry than any sandwich I had ever had the misfortune of experiencing. Additionally, EVERY MEMBER of our party ended up feeling nauseated later in the evening, regardless of what they ate. After 30 minutes or so, I was provided with a painful reminder of why I hadn't been to one of these establishments in the better part of two decades. Let this serve as a reminder to myself to never endure this place again, but also as a warning to anyone who values decent food to not bother wasting their time. read more

We are relatively new to the area but we have dined at this French Market West location on a number of occasions and have always enjoyed the food, service, and the vibe here. So normally. I would rate this restaurant 4 to 4.5. Tonight was not that night in the food category only. We ordered the catfish entree, and a fried oyster entree and fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. When we ordered the oysters, we asked how many typically come with the meal and we were told that it's served by weight and not by how many oysters. I believe it was right at $20 for the oyster platter which is pretty common but you look at the picture and see if the amount and presentation is what you would expect for this price and at this restaurant. I think not. We have ordered the fried catfish multiple times and for good reason. It is normally very delicious and moist and seasoned and fried to golden perfection. Tonight was not that night. Keep in mind the picture is after one of my guests had finished because it was just so tasteless and overcooked she could not consume more. These portions are generous just please correct the preparation and spices. Fried tomatoes were good as always but came without the sauce that usually accompanies this appetizer. This was corrected. Keep it coming French Market West but if a full restaurant (like tonight was) starts to impact your quality, please address it with training or more cooking talent. read more

A hidden gem we tried a few years ago and said, "I don't think so." Well we never say never so we went there for lunch and was delighted with Everything from the way we were greeted and seated to our lovely server, J C. The food was perfect from presentation to temperature. I had a salmon Salad. Sounds ordinary but far from it. The perfectly cooked salmon fillet on top of a bed of lettuce and came with an avocado dressing the likes I have never tasted before, made me wish I had come back sooner. The atmosphere was elegant but relaxed. Such a pleasure to have a conversation and not have to shout over the piped in music or a loud crowd. The next time we go back it will be for dinner. I asked to be seated and the hostess was going to seat me directly between 2 tables full of people twice. No social distancing whatsoever. So I requested to sit outside. Fine. I ordered a glass of wine. Then I proceeded to get the andouille sausage appetizer. When I say disappointed that is an understatement. The service was amazing and worth the visit in itself our waiter (can't remember name) she was servicing us at 5:30pm the day of this review. And honestly a phenomenal job by her she went above and beyond expectations. The food was excellent and prepared exactly how we ordered. Sprite was low on carbonation but that didn't stop her from making it right asap by switching the drink out almost immediately. (Sprite is always hard to keep the right carbonation so not at all a problem with our experience.) We will be coming back! read more

The most over rated restaurant in the Augusta area!!! What do people see in this place? Over priced slop out of a bag for the most part. Certainly zero pride in presentation. I ordered a $30 dozen Rockefeller oyster appetizer. They gave me oysters on a dinner plate with a spoonful of spinach on top of each oyster. Just sitting on a dinner plate. No garnish at all. My wife ordered the fried green tomatoes appetizer. Four small slices of a tomato with a handful of lettuce on a dinner plate. Just laying there and it wasn't even a whole tomato. We do better presentation on a Tuesday night at home. Next was the side salad. The salad at McDonald's runs circles around what we were served tonight. Think hours old salad out of a bag on a plate. No croutons...nothing but the bagged lettuce. Then the meals show up. Well only four of the five meals we ordered actually showed up. I waited an additional 25 minutes for my bland, no flavor, seafood pasta. The pork tenderloin meals were basically four pieces of pork in a bland sauce with a few pieces of broccoli...for $25. And to top it all off I ordered the peanut butter pie for dessert. I was served a frozen piece of Sara Lee pie. It was horrible. I just don't comprehend why people say this place is any good. Doesn't look like much from the outside but nice ambience on the inside. Was a bit of a wait to get seated but the bartender was great! Had 2 drinks while we waited. You DEFINITELY want to get the gumbo to start! It was delicious and was happy it came without pork. The fresh bread is very good so hard to not put on the extra carbs! Crawfish étouffe honestly wasn't it! Never seen an étouffée look like it had gravy on it BUT when I told my waitress she was very nice about swapping me out for the seafood pasta which was AMAZING! This is the perfect place to bring out of town guests...most recent visit solidified that this is still a great way to go! The menu is varied, with there being no "bad" choices. I didn't even know that there *was* another branch of the French Market until I was in Augusta for another reason and decided to get dinner at the French Market West. I looked at the menu and saw that the jambalaya that's on the lunch menu wasn't listed among the dinner entrées--but that there was jambalaya as an appetizer. I got a small gumbo appetizer and a medium size jambalaya appetizer and left stuffed. It was absolutely delicious, with plenty of chicken, sausage, and shrimp. They do not skimp on the meat! If you at all like Cajun food--and if you don't, you are a monster and have no soul and I pity you--you should try French Market Grill either in its original location or this one. read more

More like 3.5, for service, the comfy booths and lighting.. cause nobody wants to eat dinner with bright lights,  the worst. The jambalaya is really good here with hot sauce added. The shrimp po boy is not worth the money, major amount of bread with I think 6 medium shrimp somewhere hidden in.   There are better po boys around.  The shrimp creole was pretty good with the green hot sauce that they have on the table. But ughh, totally disappointed in the Cajun popcorn appetizer.  Extremely fishy tasting and not fried well. They just need to remove that from the menu. read more

Enjoyed a delightful meal sitting in the bar as the balance of the restaurant was crowded and it was a 20 to 30 minute wait--but we were able to sit at a table in the bar area immediately. We enjoyed a crab cake as an appetizer--and it was as it has always been--good. It's not at all a thick lump crab crab cake. Rather, it is a flat yet flavorful crab cake. We then moved on to dinners where we enjoyed the lobster tails as well as lobster and filet. It was all really quite nice, flavorful and really price reasonable. We finished with peanut butter pie. This is a solid local place for dinner that isn't a chain. We've dined here several times and I'm always happy when I leave. (I usually want something reasonably healthy) I've done the boiled chicken twice and tonight I did the pork tenderloin. The chicken makes me happy because it is on the "lite" menu and I know I am eating well. However the pork tenderloin tonight blew my mind. IT WAS SO GOOD. I had them sub out the mashed potatoes for the healthy brown rice, and the veggies were excellent. My husband had the grouper special tonight and said it was very good. He skips all over the menu and is always happy with his selection. When we are really hungry we will get the andouille sausage appetizer. I don't think they are making the bread, but when I am starving after a long day at work-like today- and the butter isn't frozen and the bread is hot, that makes me happy. Wine list isn't anything to right home about, but they seem to specialize more in cocktails if that is your thing. Another thing I like is that they make all their desserts. Tonight I got the lemon cream cheese pie. It was goooood. My husband had the peanut butter pie/turtle combo and loved it. They are known at both locations for their peanut butter desserts. Friday night, we showed up ay 6:45 and were home by 8:05. We weren't rushed, but I appreciate the quick and attentive service. read more

I was visiting Augusta on a business trip and our group was trying to find a local place to eat after having a horrible experience the previous evening.we stumbled upon this restaurant by chance looking for another location and decided to try it. The atmosphere was nice and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. The only real drawback for me personally was the food was a bit over the top with Cajun/Creole spices. It is not that I don't like "spicy" (heat) because I love it. It was just overdone. In addition, in all fairness, I had eaten in New Orleans the week before soooo...they were behind the proverbial 8 ball to begin with. read more

Was excited to go here for our anniversary dinner. Upon arrival, the ambiance was less than desirable, feeling more like a run down Applebees. We got the menu and the prices were what you'd expect in a higher class seafood restaurant. We stayed, expecting the food to make up for the lack of atmosphere and khaki pants themed waiting staff. We received our order and was appalled. The crepes Louisiana was clearly a microwaved or reheated / pre-made dish that was likely previously frozen. The cream sauce had zero flavor and the crab and crawfish meat smelled worse than the crap you'd get out of a store bought can. I took one bite and did something I've never done before... sent it back. The dish was awful. My wife ordered the steak and lobster. The steak was cooked through like beef jerky and the lobster reminded me of crocodile meat I once had in the Mekong Delta. Rubber. You could seriously bounce it off the floor. I wish Gordon Ramsey could have been there. I wish Robert Irvine could have been there. They could have made excellent rescue episodes for this horrible place. They would have made bank. This was clearly a chain restaurant in decline. Please do not make the mistake we did. Walk across the street, there are several wonderful steak houses. This place is a clear insult to Deep South Louisiana cuisine. read more
