I'm debating 3-4 stars, but I'm erring on the positive side because of the service. We came for an early dinner/snack/drink-fest, ordered beers (great selection), and some appetizers. After looking at the menu a bit longer we ordered other items that would be our dinner (calzone and salad). Our beers came pretty quickly, and the server followed up - and when we asked about our appetizer she said she had forgotten to "hit send". OK, well, she comped our appetizers, which then came out quickly. Unfortunately the calzone took 55 minutes (the menu does state they take at least 25 minutes though) - but our server kept stopping by, apologizing, and we ordered another appetizer while we waited. Apparently there was a huge rush on pizza/calzone orders so the kitchen was backed up. It happens. Overall the food quality was surprisingly good. There's table tennis as well as pool tables, and occasionally they have live music (check their schedule). Lots of beers on tap, and a full bar. We'll come again, and hopefully will get our pizza/calzone a little quicker. read more

3 1/2 stars. The people sometimes take a while to notice you if you are not a regular but when they finally do, they are friendly. I have not been too impressed with their food but they do have a lot of choices and i have only tried 3 or 4 in my 6 trips here. They have a good selection of beer on tap and a full bar. They have lotter machines, pool tables and such. Sometimes they have live music as well. It is still worth giving it a shot! read more

Yesterday we discovered the Winery at Manzanita! We've been camping at Nehalem State Park for about a month & I wish we'd known about this place earlier! It's got a friendly, homey atmosphere & the servers are very friendly. They have some amazing wines & even have appetizers. With COVID there is limited seating so get there early! We have been coming to the Lighthouse, off and on, for years now. The food is high quality pub food - almost everything is fried, and it's all good. The beer selection is thorough, and the people are nice. With pandemic restrictions in place, it feels a little harder to find seating during busy times, but it's all about the planning. It's a place that seems to appeal more to locals/regulars than tourists, which is fine with us, as it keeps prices reasonable. Kids aren't allowed, which is fine with us, because after a day full of stuff, sometimes one parent just needs time with a beer and a to-go order, and there are few places on this part of the coast that I'd rather do that at. The Ahi basket and the Diablo Burger really stand out. read more

Of course it's important to have good service, but just exercise some patience and remember that most of these areas have zero affordable housing and people travel quite a ways to work there. Or sometimes, even though you are a nice tourist, those servers have dealt with lots of not-so-nice tourists all day and it can feel really demoralizing. So, go to the Lighthouse! Guess there is something to be said about the only port in a storm. This was the only place open after 10 for a good 20 miles in any direction, so this was it. It was so loud, which I can forgive since it was a bar with a live band. But the service was, well, undetectable once the food was delivered. No check in at all. Had to track down the waitress to ask for the bill, and again to actually get the bill. Eventually gave up and went to the bar to pay the darn thing... And why do your tots taste like onions? Driving through today, stopped and got lunch. Enviroment: clean, friendly, open, airy...very welcoming. Two sets of clean bathrooms. SERVICE: Friendly, fast, courteous. FOOD: I ordered the chili dog basket. They put it on a lightly toasted buttery hoagie roll. It had some crunch on the outside and soft on the inside...it was awesome. Chili was mild with cheese and red onions on top and delicious, the hot dog was a 1/4 lbs all beef hot dog. I would definitely order it again! The fact that they offer so many gluten free options while delivering on flavor, is huge. Especially for the coast. The first time I ate here, I got the "small" nachos. Always a bit surprising to see the wide range of reactions: people complaining about a pub not allowing children, however, is unfortunately NOT a surprise. Thank goodness there are still some places where we don't have to be imposed upon by unruly brats. We have only been going here relatively recently, and not during a busy time, so perhaps that makes a (very understandable) difference regarding service. We have found the pub accomodating and inviting, with the food quality far surpassing that of typical bar fare. Considering 'the new normal', while other businesses have obviously been challenged, The Lighthouse seems to have barely missed a beat in maintaining reliable excellence. read more
