This is so cute and delicious. It reminds me of being in Italy. We had the prosciutto and burrata appetizer delicious. Fennel salad was fresh and fragrant. The ravioli was the star with the most delicious fillings and sauce. The pork was tender with a wonderful mustard sauce. We capped the meal with the pan a cotta which was smooth and creamy. Manzoni is a cute neighborhood Italian restaurant that looks great and has an old family feel. I visited here on a Friday night and made a reservation just in case. As I got there with my partner, the restaurant was empty except for 2 tables. The host lets us know that if we don't have a reservation, he can't seat us since it's a busy night. It was 5:45pm...good thing I made a reservation. We got a table by the window, however, this was also crammed in between the 2 tables that were already there. We ordered the gnocchi and pappardelle, along with the burrata and 2 glasses of wine. The Burrata with prosciutto was amazing. I could have ate that all night and been happy. Our pasta arrives and I loved the gnocchi. It could have had a little bit more flavor but the it was still great. The pappardelle wasn't as exciting and needed more sauce. It seemed like there was more pasta water than needed and it took over the sauce. Overall, I would give this place another chance to try their veal. read more

When we finally sat down, it took forever for them to give us a menu. When we were ready to order, it took forever for them to come and get our order. Now for the good part- the food was AMAZING. We started off with delicious bread and a side of good quality olive oil. Our prosciutto and burrata appetizer was simple but very fresh and delicious. For pastas, my favorite was the fettuccini alla vongole. I've been searching far and wide for a great vongole pasta dish that mimicked one I had in Venice, and this one was the best I've had in SF. The clams tasted very fresh, and the sauce was so light and flavorful. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. My boyfriend got the pappardelle and he didn't enjoy it as much because it lacked flavor. The meat was tender though. Overall, service was very slow, but the food was too yummy that we could overlook it. Oh my goodness the food was good here!! We came without a reservation but we were still able to get a table for three. It's a small place. Charming interior. Large wine selection. All the food seemed very freshly made. The pasta was DELICIOUS! The fennel salad... the tiramisu-- all amazing! We were a little stressed out on behalf of the older gentleman who seemed to be the entire front of house. He was rocking it managing all the tables, seating people, pouring wine, serving/clearing etc etc with few issues but it felt like too much. You did occasionally have to flag him a little bit to get something but given all he was managing I'm surprised at how little that was required. But his running about made the otherwise perfectly wonderful dining experience feel a little more stressed. Get the poor guy a little help! read more

Really wanted to enjoy and support this neighborhood restaurant, but unfortunately we couldn't overlook our poor experience. We also want to set expectations for future patrons. To start, service was extremely rough. We understand that the older gentleman was working by himself for some reason, so we tried to be as forgiving as we could. But the issues kept stacking up. It was a rainy early evening, so the restaurant was perhaps only half occupied or less for most of the evening. Yet he passed on us repeatedly, so he could help other tables; we soon gave up and just watched him scramble back and forth. He definitely looked stressed, so we get it, but we couldn't help wonder about this staffing decision. He finally got to us, and I noticed up close how frazzled and breathless he was. Poor guy. When he took our order, I also noticed the messy scribbling of orders on his notepad. This will come into play throughout the evening. The food didn't make up for it unfortunately. The pasta came out first and was simply average. My partner had the parpadelle, and I got the ravioli. The ravioli was probably the best of the two, but the portion was sparse. On the bright side, the bread was good. But we were still hungry. And our appetizer and salad never came. He was clearly struggling to serve everyone the whole evening. We noticed other diners impatiently turning their heads to look back at him and talking about the slow service. Eventually, we decided it seemed like a crapshoot that any more food would make it to us this evening. We decided to cancel the appetizer and salad and leave hungry. Even after we paid, he experienced some confusion, which created more frustration for us--although we remained polite. After he realized his mistake, we left the restaurant. Yet, the issues didn't stop. After we got home, we discovered we were charged for an extra wine. However, after I couldn't get ahold of anyone, I quickly gave up, deciding it wouldn't be worth the hassle. Other notes: In terms of the environment, the ambiance was actually pretty bad. The acoustics were terrible. You could hear everyone talk, especially with no background music. More egregious was how loud and disruptive the gentleman was as he cleared the tables, producing comically loud clanging as he collected the diningware. On top of that, it was also very cramped inside, although that can be forgiven for an SF restaurant. Parking was tough, even on a pouring evening. It's right by Glen Park Bart. I feel bad for the server. Only one person running around on a busy night. But it was also a disastrous situation that impacted our evening, as well as many other patrons.' As much as I love supporting smaller local establishments, I really can't recommend this one due to my experience. read more

I was really looking forward to dinner here but had an absolutely terrible experience. My friends had kindly offered to take me to dinner for my birthday and we chose this place. When I arrived for our reservation, there was a large party and another one being seated; meanwhile, there was only one, very elderly, waiter. He barely acknowledged me but eventually seated me in the back and my friends got there shortly thereafter. We were completely ignored: no water, bread, nothing - instead, he actively avoided eye contact. I totally understand that it was a rough situation but not even stopping by and offering a beverage is really unacceptable. I'm not sure of the thinking behind this staffing decision or how the restaurant expects to serve expected customers under such circumstances. Really wanted to like Manzoni, as I live in the area and it would be nice to have another walkable date night spot (and I really enjoy Higher Grounds, which is owned by the same guy), but the food fell short for me. I made an OpenTable reservation for a warm Friday evening. There were maybe 3-4 other tables inside, and the owner was able to serve us all attentively. (To the other reviews complaining about service: I guess it truly depends on how many people come; if it's a night like mine, the owner can service everyone on his own; if it's busy, then that's where the problems come in I guess.) I immediately noticed how gorgeous the interior was; it transports you to Mediterranean Europe. We sat near the windows, but the rest of the interior is a bit dimmer (more romantic?). As for the food, the complimentary bread was great. I ordered the pappardelle con brasato di maiale. While the pork was super tender and yummy, the pappardelle pasta itself was underwhelming in texture and flavor (tasted like grocery store box pasta to me). My husband got the fettuccine alle vongole; he tried my pappardelle and told me it was better than his dish. Since I live so close, I might give it another try to see if their one homemade pasta dish is any better. read more

Exceptional pasta; this restaurant is a true neighborhood gem. I have tried the salmon special and that was a delectable plate as well but I would highly recommend the ravioli. As others point out, it's just the owner as front of house staff so I wouldn't come here if I was in a rush, but he is a lovely waiter and very kind. I just got off work and I'm craving some pasta. I absolutely love pasta so I check this place out because it's on the way home. Maybe I'm spoiled with really good Italian food in Marin and North Beach, but I was not impressed and I could have possibly ended up in the Emergency Room. Let me explain... I got the Pork Ragu Parpadelle which was mediocre, I'd probably give it a 6/10. The pasta was a bit bland and the Parpadelle didn't seem homemade. Maybe it is homemade and if it is then there is some room for improvement. Half way through eating my plate, I notice a metal shard sticking out. Good thing I mixed the Parpadelle and sauce a bit or I might have missed it! It was about half the size of a dime. I set it aside and start looking for other metallic shards. Luckily I didn't find anymore and proceeded to finish the pasta. I call the waiter over to show him and he confirmed it was a shard from those metal twist off wine caps. He offered to replace my dish which was generous but I was already full. I don't get in the habit of trying to take advantage of businesses. The concerning part to me was the waiters lack of concern. Anyways, I tipped 10% because I can't get myself to tip more but I also realize it isn't the waiters fault there was a metal shard in my food. After my meal, I was a bit paranoid I consumed another possible metal shard but I seem fine. In conclusion, I will not be coming back to this restaurant. The food was mediocre, the waiter didn't seem too concerned like it happens sometimes, the ambiance could be improved, and I possibly could have ended up in the ER due to the chef's negligence. I have seen this place many-a-times but never really ate here. I ordered take out for 5 dishes (2 Pappardelle, 2 Rigatoni, and 1 Pork tenderloin) and was told that the food would take 25 minutes. I arrived at 30 minutes and while there were about 3 different parties at the time, there was no server in sight, which made sense for a small restaurant and the server was probably in the back. I stood there for maybe 2 minutes until a server came out of the kitchen and just... stood there? I was towards the front where the greeting table was and - I mean I didn't say anything and there was no bell to ring - but after a short minute, the server noticed me and apologized and everything was fine! He was very nice and brought the food out very quickly and they were still hot. Pappardelle: very good! The noodles were great and the sauce was quite good. Rigatoni: OH MAN YUMMY brothers and sisters and everyone else - this is great. It's creamy yet smooth, the noodles (all the noodles, including the pappardelle) were al dente and the sauce was perfect. Pork Tenderloin: I didn't order this but the person who did really liked it. The orange and the olives weren't overpowering at all. Gnocchi - the sauce was bread-licking delicious. I'd order this again when I come back here. Just the right amount of cheesy-ness and a perfect balance of the black Truffle sauce, definitely a must try. Fettuccine - ordered it with the white wine sauce. Another nicely balanced dish and wasn't overpowered by the sauce and the clams. Would definitely come back here to try the other dishes. Manzoni is at the top of my list of favorite restaurants! That is saying a lot in the food paradise of San Francisco. I have eaten there since they opened, and I have enjoyed every meal completely. As a vegetarian, I have no problem finding delicious choices. Some of my favorites are Involtino di Melanzane, Insalata Misticanza Mele Gorgonzola, Ravioli alla Verdura con Caprino, Gnocchi alla Piemontese, and Maltagliati al Pesto. This place is maddening: the lack of waiting and front of house staff means the old man proprietor acts in every capacity. This is impossible and there is inevitably a (long) delay to be served, let alone have the order on your table. What is even more crazy is the restaurant wasn't even full ! And yet...when the food arrives, it is great in flavor! As a European, it drives me mad when pasta is served as boiled rubber with slobbered sauce. And HUGE portions. This restaurant gives you a sense of European flavors, styles and portions. At least it did the night I was there. The ambiance is muted and it has a chalet-feel about it. We have enjoyed this restaurant many times in the past. Tonight we ordered online, paid, and arrived to pick up at the appointed time, with the receipt on my phone to prove it. The owner seemed embarrassed and clearly had not seen the order come in. Instead of apologizing and making it good, he proceeded to help people who came in after me, and shrugged his shoulders and said it wasn't his fault when I asked him what we should do now. I did then insist that he help me, at which point he refused, and I left. I understand that he was busy and embarrassed at whatever failure happened in their systems or in the back, but this was not minimally decent customer service. By the time I got home the order had been cancelled online, which clearly means he did finally find the order and he cancelled it after I left. Sad. I won't trust them with an order again. read more

Picked up dinner to go the day before thanksgiving. Ordered ahead on the phone and was told it would be ready in about ten minutes. Came with really delicious fresh bread. It doesn't look like a big portion but I couldn't finish mine. I had the rigatoni with sausage and tomato cream sauce, it was really yummy. My husband had the pappardelle and it was just ok. It was lacking flavor and didn't pack the punch he was looking for that we know from here. But highly rec the rigatoni and gnocchi. We have dined here in person last year and recall it being absolutely delish (I still dream about the truffle gnocchi), so we will be back to try it again! Also remember wonderful service. read more

Passed by here a few times, but just recently tried it. My first experience was a really pleasant surprise! Super cute interior very authentic food. It's a small place so reservations are a good idea but you can try walk in. They have specials everyday but the core menu was a good mix of items including really delicious salads & pastas! I came back a second time, but I did not order as well as the first time, which I enjoyed more. The ravioli was so comforting the first time I came here, I really loved it and the special tomato bread soup amazing! I hope they offer it next time I come back. The steak I ordered this time was cooked how asked, so its my fault for getting it to well done next time go med rare, or probably I would just stick to the salads & pasta. The chicken looked worth trying as well. I did try the fennel salad and I enjoyed it quite a lot. The tiramisu looked good going past to other tables, maybe leave room to try it sometime. Overall its a cozy place, definitely be adding to my list for future visits. read more

HIDDEN GEM! It's Glen Park's unofficial motto, and very fitting for Manzoni also. This place doesn't even have a sign on the outside! Or at least one I could find... I lived in the neighborhood for two whole years before finally trying this place, and it was incredible. I had the "Ravioli alla Verdura con Caprino" and it was one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. I knew I had to try the tiramisu also, and was definitely not disappointed. This review is over due. Our dinner was back in September last year. I am a super fan of the High ground Cafe, when I found out that this restaurant was owned by the same person, I couldn't wait to come in. Thus could be the reason for my hope to be too high. The ambience was pleasant. There was still a longer table by the entrance for to-go orders. Service was great as expected. We would hope that the dishes could be as good as the crepes in the cafe. For each dish that we got, something was missing in our taste buds. We really wanted to like them but not there yet. There's certainly opportunity for this restaurant as it's supported by the Glen Park neighbors. I am grateful to see that both the cafe and this restaurant survived the Pandemic. read more

Super cute little restaurant and the owners were giving us the at home cooked meal vibe. We ordered the carpaccio, gnocchi, veal, ravioli, taramisu, and creme cake. The food was beautiful, full of flavor, and perfect temperature. I mention the temperature because sometimes when you order so much the food come out Luke warm but it amazing! One great dish, one disappointing one, and erratic service do not a memorable evening make. Gee, it's like I gave away the whole plot in the first sentence, but I thought I'd cut to the chase since attention spans are getting so minuscule in the age of social media. Too bad since the signs prior to my recent virginal visit would indicate this could be the hidden jewel of Glen Park, a neighborhood with a lot more dining options than I always expect. This one is up on the second block of Diamond from the BART station just as the area starts to feel totally residential. The stone entryway gave way to a compact dining room. The space was half full when I arrived by myself and fortunately there was a small table next to the front window just for me. Sometimes I wonder if the staff is immediately disappointed to see a solitary diner at a table for two. I definitely got that impression the minute I sat down. The server was quite chatty with the large, mouthy parties and even the couple seated next to me, offering suggestions on the menu, the wine and so forth. Second, the pork pieces were too big to savor with the pasta and required further cutting up. OK, I get the hint. Excellent service I've ever had . And the best tiramisu ever. First time dine in here and we tried spaghetti and fettuccine with clams the best. And I like the Italian music that was played and it's very clean inside. Love the ambiance. Salute to the owner name Man halt . He's very inspiring person very hardworking and super nice.
