After I dropped off my car at AJ's Auto repair shop on San Pablo Avenue, my husband and I headed to Sweet Adeline Bakeshop to get something sweet. We both chose the cinnamon-pecan sticky bun, which were still warm. They were fantastic. I usually don't order these because they seem like they could be overly sweet, but couldn't resist because they looked so great. The only thing I would suggest is to bring a wet towelette if you're planning on eating it right away, because as their name says, they're sticky! :) Service was lovely, as always. read more

I am about as anti-vegan as they come, but the vegan chocolate chip cookies here are fantastic. I was attending a get together where are the host was vegan. She had picked up half a dozen of the vegan chocolate chip cookies from this place. I tried one very skeptically. And was completely blown away as to how good the cookie was. By virtual of being vegan, there is no butter, so I'm completely perplexed as to how they are able to get the cookie to come out. But it taste fantastic. Not too overly sweet. And pretty much taste like a normal cookie. After that experience, I went down a month later and got a couple of my own from the bake shop itself. The place is well decorated and homie. When in town this is my go to spot to grab decadent pastries to share with friends and family. Their quiche never disappoints. The lemon bars a must try, usually sold out. Honestly everything I've tried here has been delish. Service is good, please specify if you want certain items in different boxes especially if they don't ask. Ambiance is a walk in walk out bakery. Got a few chocolate chip cookies and one oatmeal raisin. Was told these were nut-free, though it was not a nut free facility, and the worker didn't seem confident that this was safe for someone with a nut allergy (we actually ended up going somewhere else afterward who assured us that they carefully clean everything out before making their nut-free products). The cookies were pretty standard, and the pastries we got were good. The ham and gruyere turnover was super flaky, probably would have been better heated. The mozzarella focaccia was my favorite item, soft and airy, and flavorful, though the sea salt on top was unnecessary. Reserved a whole pecan carrot cake for a birthday for the first time. It was delicious. My whole family loved it because it wasn't too sweet! The price was $50 plus $3 for inscription. When I lived in Cali, I was a frequent customer almost every Sunday. So of course, they were on my list when I visited this week. Welp, something has changed in the last 5 years!!! The inside has changed from a spacious place to eat inside and now it's blocked off. Also, the most important thing!! The sprinkles cake and cheesecake is not the same:( The cheesecake lacked flavor and tasted like butter. The infamous sprinkles cake no longer has a jelly thin layer as did 5 years ago. Both cakes were not tasteful and lacked flavor. We ended up throwing away the cheesecake, and sprinkles cake. Very disappointed, and unsure if there was a change in ownership and recipes. Love this little place. I am so glad they seem to be thriving in a place that can see so desolate on the edge of where Berkeley and Oakland intersect. I had always heard about this place but it was not until recently I was able to try them. I had there ham and cheese turnover and a pecan sticky bun one time I stopped by and then I had the ham and cheese turnover again with a slice of there apple harvest cake. One that ham and cheese turnover is the star of the show. Crust is so buttery and me being the savory queen that I am it is just so good. Go and get one and you will understand what I am trying to say. The stick bun was ok but that apple harvest cake! So moist and the apples are baked in so perfect. The team that serves you is always so kind and upbeat. Super intuitive. I have not had the opportunity to sit down as I am always on the way to work when I stop by here. After just one visit, I'm sold! Sweet Adeline Bakeshop was the sweetest find when I was in the Berkeley area. I was searching for a good classic vanilla cheesecake by the slice and Yelp pointed me to Sweet Adeline. Even though it's sort of off the main street in Berkeley, they luckily have a small parking lot in front so it was pretty easy to find parking. The shop itself is pretty small - takeout only except for a couple of tables outside. On a Thursday mid-morning, it wasn't too busy either. Once I entered the shop, I was already wow'd by all the beautiful, delicious pastries and bakery items on display. If I could get one of everything, I definitely would've and I'm sure everything would've been so good! Instead of getting everything this time, I ordered a slice of their classic vanilla cheesecake ($5) and a slice of their Louise cake ($7.50) which is a classic chocolate cake. They packed it up nicely in a box and I brought it home for dessert after dinner that evening. I made sure to keep it in the fridge until then and when I unpacked it later that evening, it still looked so fresh and ready to go. We shared the slices with our dinner guests who had birthdays this month and they both LOVED IT. I sneaked a bite of each and they were delicious. Can't wait to go back and try more! read more

Recently came here for Easter weekend and got the $55 Strawberry Cream cake. The cake was delicious but they charge $3 to write on the cake. This was shocking to find out. We've gotten plenty of cakes from them before so this must be new. Kind of a turn off that a bakery would charge to write "happy birthday", "happy anniversary", etc on a cake that already costs $55. I also get cakes from other bakeries (Masses, etc) and they don't charge and their birthday writing actually come on actual entire strip of chocolate which uses way more chocolate and still no charge because the cake is already pricey to begin with. Disappointing cause I really like their cakes but the extra charge for writing makes me want to go to other bakeries instead. 5/5 for their cakes 0/5 for charging to write on cake read more

A solid local bakery that you can pre-order for birthdays and holidays. I really like their pear galette. The chocolate cream pie is decadent and the confetti cake is a fun birthday treat. I recently picked up the very rich buche du Noel for Christmas. It was an intense chocolate angel style cake with a cream frosting. Sadly, it was a bit dry and it ended up not being my favorite. While went with a few monster slices at $6ish/slices, I would have been disappointed at the $80 price tag for a full one. No croissants here, but more muffins, pecan buns, scones and the likes. Definitely check their menu to see if anything strikes your fancy. Coffee is solid, but no nonfat milk - only whole, almond or oat. Plenty of parking. Overall, a solid locals spot. read more

It looks so lovely, with that spiral swirl in the frosting on top, but it tastes even better than it looks! Everyone at the counter is always very helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable. We recently ordered a Bûche de Noël, Christmas Log Cake for our family Christmas Dinner. This was truly a masterpiece and a big hit with the whole family! I come from a European family and have lived in Paris, and I will tell you that I have not had this good of a Bûche de Noël since my days in France. The chocolate was dark, heavenly and delicious, and the rest of the cake had a complexity of flavors that rival the best I have ever had! Even my Hungarian Mother would have been proud! This is a review of the Carrot Cake and nothing else. We purchased a carrot cake for a birthday because we had heard such rave reviews about it. When we picked it up, it looked beautiful. Sadly, not a single person who had it thought it was anything but dry, tasteless and had a frosting Betty Crocker wouldn't put in a can. Seriously, it was possibly the single worst carrot cake many of us have ever had. It is possible it was a fluke but at a cost of nearly $60 (total) for an 8" cake, we aren't going to try again. Wow. Sweet Adeline's carrot cake is a must for all you carrot cake lovers! I was in search for a stellar cake for my brother's 40th birthday and after much investigation, Sweet Adeline won me over. I hadn't tried it before but the reviews and pics from my beloved Yelpers really helped me - kudos to you all! Ordering was easy online and I wanted to add all the things- writing, flower decor, and candles. Communication is solely online - there is no phone number listed but Amanda was very quick to reply online. I picked up the cake before they closed at 3pm and it was beautiful. The cake itself was absolutely scrumptious and made well with all the layers of moist carrot cake and addicting and not too sweet cream cheese frosting. My brother said it may be the best he's had and he's a die hard carrot cake fan. Thank you Sweet Adeline for making my brother's birthday cake so memorable. I swung by for the GF items (as a gift to someone with celiac's) and chose a slice of the Rose Pistachio torte. The ladies behind the counter are so helpful and friendly and informed me that they don't advise anyone with Celiac's to consume their labeled GF items since all items are made in house in shared counters with all other baked goods - BUT I got the slice anyway for me because it looked too good to pass up!! I had bought a dozen cupcakes which were Pecan Carrot cake and ginger bread cupcakes . I also added a Bourbon Pecan slice, as well. People were Super friendly and very helpful. I have heard positive things about this bakery and have always wanted to visit. I ordered the baby Bûche de Nöel. I defaulted to 8 am Christmas Eve pick up time slot and was warned that regardless of a pick up time I would have to join the queue. My email confirmation noted the time was an estimate. I was up to the 48 mile drive and planned to arrive about 8:30. I was pleasantly surprised, no line. The bake shop was conducting bustling sales and a prominent sign directed those picking up orders to walk down the street to the rear of the shop. Two pleasant employees were available to retrieve orders. No waiting. Smooth process and I was on my way in less than five minutes. Fast forward to Christmas dessert. The Bǔche de Nöel was beautifully and whimsically decorated. Very appealing. First taste was so disappointing to what had been a seamless experience. The cake tasted like a box cake! After my initial bite I asked my son to try it. He exclaimed "Duncan Hines". Total disappointment. read more

Sweet Adeline is the most underrated bakery in the Bay Area. Their cakes and pastries are always made fresh and delicious. If you are in the area, I highly recommend a visit. The wifey and I always come back for the Confetti Cake which is our go-to birthday cake. We have tried other bakeries and even the Milk Bar, but Sweet Adeline is wayyyyy better. Even better than Caroline I would bet. Too bad you can't hear the song on Spotify anymore. One touching one. Reaching out, touching me, touching you... good times never seemed so good. So yes, if you like tasty desserts like brownies, cookies, scones, etc., I highly recommend Sweet Adeline. I do wish they had a separate pick up window for online orders. After all, Sweet Adeline is not in the nicest of neighborhoods. Every time I visit, there are at least one or two mentally ill or drugged out people in front and the tents across the street seem to have become permanent.
