Had a great experience at Zhou's Mapo Tofu! Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the mapo tofu--it was flavorful, spicy, and really hit the spot. The portions were generous, and all the dishes tasted fresh and authentic. The staff was friendly and attentive as well. Definitely a spot I'd recommend if you're looking for good Sichuan food in New York. We'll definitely be back!

Broccoli with beef. White rice. $30

Beware of a service charge. Owner adds on a service charge with no explanation. I think it was 18% and apparently not a tip. The food was good. Not great. They charge additional for white rice with your entree. I got the broccoli and beef. (Pictured) Well prepared and tasted good. Medium portion. $28 plus $2 for a small bowl of rice. I understand the rent is high in this location but that doesn't make it worth it. I don't like them sneaking in a "service charge" that isn't going to the server. Too many other options around here to recommend this place. They are open late.

Recently opened restaurant on eighth Avenue close to Hell's Kitchen and right beside a big playwright Celtic bar Cozy little place with a few tables and a good ambience The service was good and attentive We tried a few different dishes for lunch and we enjoyed all the dishes Good shout out if you're in the area and want nice hot Chinese food Tried the mapo Tofu, obviously there is also a Mapo spicy chicken dish, but it's a breast it's not boneless We tried a double cooked pork, which was pretty tasty And also squid tentacles, which was OK not too great Overall enjoyable food

Mapo Nine Grid Dim Sum Lunch

ATTN DIVAS--THEY HAVE COKE ZERO. Walked over during my break at around 11:30AM and enjoyed being alone in the quiet restaurant for the first 30 mins before the lunch rush came in. I already knew what I wanted--the mapo tofu lunch combo (~$16) and the nine grid dim sum (~$23). Service was very polite, didn't bother me at all, like they can sense how much interaction you need. There's a bar as well but I had to head back to work :P The mapo tofu was expectedly delicious, soft tofu cubes in a thick meaty sauce with a side of white rice and smaller sides of seasoned cucumber, a hard boiled egg, and a spring roll cut on the bias, perfect for dipping into the mapo sauce. 10/10. The nine grid dim sum was so fun to try! I was worried it would be too much because I was dining alone but figured I just had to try. Visually stunning, the different bites were an adventure and most were fantastic while some were bombs. The lunch combo comes with a dessert at the end of the meal: coconut milk straws. I'm not a big fan of coconut dessert so one bite almost ruined my mapo high but they let me take the rest home and my husband loved them. Overall with 2 cokes and tip I spent $50 (teehee) but I ate and drank a lot, had a great time listening to a podcast in my headphones, people-watched near the window, and enjoyed a nice break away from the office. I'd definitely do it again. Cheers!

We needed somewhere quick and stopped here. I probably shouldn't have eaten inside because there were gnats and flies flying and one landed on our food. Ended up taking to go to enjoy it. Honestly the chicken was not good and had a weird sweet sauce. The scallion pancake ended up being what I ate the whole night. Wouldn't come back personally. Update: my boyfriend got food poisoning lol

I came back to Mapo Asian Restaurant & Bar for another lunch and tried the Garlic Chicken Lunch Special this time. At first bite, it tasted okay, but the more I ate, the more the flavors came through. It had a tangy sourness and a nice kick of spice that grew on me. My friend ordered the dry hot pot and asked for "super spicy." When it came out, it wasn't as fiery as she hoped, but the staff offered to recook it. Even after, it still wasn't that spicy for her, but I appreciated that they tried to make it right. This time, they surprised us with a little snack before the meal, and at the end, they even brought out a small slice of chocolate cake--likely because of the mix-up with the spice level. Those extra touches went a long way and showed great hospitality. Overall, still a strong spot for lunch with solid flavors and thoughtful service. Just a little inconsistency with the spice, but I'll be back again.

This restaurant has a lunch special. We got the dry hot pot with the mild spicy level. For my hot pot, I got fatty beef, bok choy, and enoki mushrooms. The servers were very attentive in refilling our water glasses. We were also given appetizers which were egg roll cookies and radish. At the end of the meal, we were given fortune cookies. Overall, a very pleasant lunch experience.

Last night I went out for Chinese food. I walked by Mapo & saw they had Szechuan Dan Dan Noodles on their menu. That is one of my favorite dishes, so in I went. The waitress was kind, despite having a little trouble understanding my English. She said the dish cones extremely spicy. I asked her to tone it down a bit. Unfortunately my bowl arrived with zero spice. That was disappointing, but perhaps it was her difficulty with understanding English. Like I said she was very kind & attentive. The flavor was just ok, as this turned out to be a super basic dish. Think spaghetti with a little ground pork. The other thing that disappointed me was the small size portion. For almost $20, I was surprised at how small this was. I left still hungry, ugh.

Amazing Mapo tofu, shredded cabbage, and spicy chicken. The spice is authentic. Good portion size. Even though some servers don't speak mandarin, the service is top notch. The space is clean and modern. Tasted better than Mountain House next block to be honest. Will be back!

I did not expect to find a sit down Cantonese & Sichuan Restaurant in the heart of Herald Square…read more For sure a hidden gem worth trying. Came here with two other friends for dinner and we pigged out. We started off with Scallion Pancake with Shredded Duck ($15), which tasted amazing. The pancake was flaky and not overly soaked in oil, while the duck meat enhanced the taste. I think everything should order this for the table. We also got the Dan Dan Noodles w Minced Pork ($8), which is a staple dish in Sichuan cuisine. Make sure you stir the bowl to mix the sauce and minced pork. For veggies, we got the Sautéed Green Beans With Eggplant ($18), which tasted great. I usually get sautéed pea shoots for a veggie dish, but this was worth ordering as the eggplant tasted great along with the green beans. For entrees, we got the Spicy Green Pepper Fish Filet ($28 for filet). A classic Cantonese dish that comes with bok choy, so it turns out I didn't really need to order a veggie dish. Delicious. We also tried the OOHU Mao Xue Wang ($34), which may be one of the most spiciest dish available on the menu. This dish combines blood curd from a duck, tripe, and chicken gizzards along with other organs into a simmered broth containing chilis and peppercorns. They also use spam, vermicelli noodles, mushroom, and other things. If you're adventurous and you like spicy, I would recommend this. Best eaten with a cup of rice. Service is great as our server made good recommends and was overall friendly. They also have a party room you can book, which sounded pretty affordable. Don't recall what their minimum spend was, but it was super reasonable compared to a lot of other spots in Chinatown and Flushing.

We ordered multiple dishes which came out one after the other. Some of the standouts for me were the Pork Intestine Dry Pot ($20.95), Crispy Tofu with Salty Egg Yolk ($23.95), and Sauteed String Beans ($16.95). Many spicy food options since this is a Szechuan spot afterall. Some dishes were a bit too salty and spicy, which they did discount after we brought it to their attention. Overall, decent spot and good for large groups. Otherwise, I didn't find this spot to be too memorable (not bad, not great).

Service is very fast and they kept the water flowing (spicy dishes really are spicy!), and the portions are huge. The grilled pork spare ribs was good, but it was too little meat for the price. The scallion pancake was bland. The Peking duck was ok. The pork xiao long bao was bad. The skin broke easily with the included forceps and with chopsticks. It was hard even transferring it to my plate. The mapo tofu was bland. The la zi ji (spicy crispy chicken) was too spicy to eat. I have good spice tolerance, and I always eat la zi ji, but it was just too spicy. This was the only meat dish that was barely touched at the end of the dinner. The best dish was the cumin lamb. It was seasoned well and the lamb was tender. I wish they gave us more lamb though. The meat pieces were small. I've had much better Chinese food in dallas. I would not recommend this Chinese restaurant to anyone.
