Let me start by saying I could Mexican food every day. Some days every meal. This place would get 3.5 stars if that was an option. 1. Chips and salsa were good. Brought promptly and the salsa had a nice kick 4 stars 2. Enchilada plate allowed me to order 2 chicken and 1 cheese which was nice. From the time i ordered to it landing in front of me was less than 5 minutes. It looked like the enchilada plate was put under some intense heat source as the chicken enchiladas were slightly crispy. The cheese enchilada was way better. The rice was my favorite part of the meal although the beans were good too 3 stars 3. Service was efficient and friendly enough. Nothing over the top 3 stars 4. The place was clean and spacious 4 stars 5. A bar? They had a nice bar with a decent selection of tequila which I didn't sample. Heard many good things about this restaurant by friends so I gave it a shot. The night I went, there were no tables available in the dining room only the bar side. The bar had a few locals that were way past intoxicated stage and were very loud competing with the music that was a few decibels high. It took the waitress a while to acknowledge the customers on that side of the restaurant. After ordering, the food arrived pretty fast. With authentic looking dishes and the flavors matched. After eating I had to go up to the register since the waitress was nowhere to be found. Few hours later while at home is when it all went downhill. Apparently one of the items I enjoyed eating didn't like me. That next morning I had to miss work and the body chills along with stomach cramps began. Between the bad service, terrible seating and the horrible food poisoning I am not recommending this place. I understand all it takes is one bad apple to spoil the bunch and I am going to need some time before I ever return to this spot. read more

This place is the only Mexican seafood restaurant in the area it has been open for years. The cerveza preparada is really good. I usually order aguachile or a campechana coctel nothing special taste smooth. I really like the micheladas and preparadas from this place. Today I ordered the red snapper ala Vera Cruz the fish is fried with sautéed veggies on top. Rice , beans , and salad. Horrible service our waitress "Alicia" has very poor customer service experience. We came in not greeted even tho the bar is near entrance with a worker there. We sat ourselves and I grabbed menus from empty table. Took our server a while to come to us. As some of us are ordering and the other asking questions Alicia replies are ya ready like if she had better things to do. I ordered fries and chicken nuggets for my daughter. We came with my family and my bother service dog. First thing they ask us is for documentation for the dog. They have never asked us for documentation on any other restaurant or place. And the only option that they gave us was eat outside and there was not a good weather for that, or leave. Food, was amazing! Fresh and full of flavor our group ordered a variety of different plates and everything from traditional enchiladas to seafood tacos to our cocktail were all delicious. Dislikes, the atmosphere was off, we couldn't tell what was happening you had a random set up of seating around this small bar, men showing each other their pocket knives, in another seating section you had a couple men with their T-shirt lifted exposing there entire stomachs. The waitress did eventually come to our table to take our order, but still wasn't clear if we ordered at this small makeshift counter they had. I have to be honest- I'm not a sea food person. But I love Mexican food more than any other food. I'm extremely picky when it comes to Mexican food and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Mar Y Mar. I ordered asada tacos and a veggie burrito as well. Tacos were excellent, tasted like home from the lightly fried tortillas to the fresh salsa. The burrito was massive and made with care. Everything was extremely fresh. Difficult to decide which item I preferred. Staff was super friendly and atmosphere was very welcoming. I'll be back for sure and look forward to trying more on the menu! read more

Terrible service. Came today with my son to eat but we never even got the chance. When we came, no one bothered to greet us. We were just standing there looking lost along with other customers. One of the customers had to tell us that we could grab any table we wanted. So we did. We sat down. And waited and waited and waited patiently for over 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. Finally, the waitress notices us. Comes over with menus, I tell her I'm ready so I order. And wait and wait again. 35 minutes went by and customers, who came after I did and tended to right away, had already gotten their food. They had forgotten about our order so I just ended up canceling it after being there almost an hour. No explanation or apologies whatsoever. They weren't even busy at that point. We took it as a sign it was good. My friend had the whole fried fish and I had the chile verde. I come here fairly often for the Chilaquiles and micheladas. The waiters are always friendly and the food is always good. There's always seats during the day but weekends are usually busy. This place was pretty good! We wandered in here after trying to go to a previous Mexican place only to find out they didn't sell alcohol, but this place did! They weren't busy at all (probably because it was a Thursday afternoon in the middle of the day) so we were served right away. We got stared at a little (probably because we were the only white people in there LOL) and we also didn't speak fluent Spanish so that added to the awkwardness. However, our server was very nice and attentive to us. I ordered a margarita and three carne asada tacos with queso and sour cream, and the rest of my party got things of the similar sort. Long story short, everything tasted good and was prepared well! Everything was great for the price, which was much more affordable than San Francisco Proper. My only complaint would just be the location and lack of parking, but the service, food were great! 3.5 is about right for this Mexican Seafood restaurant. One of my main foodie in crimes ended up getting super busy during lunch so I ended up coming here by myself to to fix my Mexican shrimp cocktail craving aka coctel de camarones. I've been a loyal customer for years and have recommended this place to many friends but not anymore! I honestly don't know what happened to this place because now the servers are rude, service is horrible, food isn't good and the wait is ridiculous on a slow day. On 2 occasions now I come in on a slow day and I sit and make eye contact with the servers and no acknowledgement. I waited for 30 minutes and stood up and left. My husband, daughter and I got off the plane at SF airport after a really long flight from the east coast. We were beyond starving and very crabby. I checked the yelp app on my phone and picked the closest restaurant that had good reviews. After finding our way we sat down at the bar and proceeded to fill our bellies. They brought us a basket of chips and salsa while we perused the menu. We were the only people in the place who weren't speaking Spanish so I knew we were in the right place. I don't remember everything we got but I had tacos al pastor and my husband had some kind of fish thing (tired, long flight, up since 4) but I know my lunch was great. Horrible service! We waited over 15-20 mins before someone even acknowledged us. Finally the rude server came and seemed annoyed to take our order. Half the items we ordered didn't even come. We had to ask for them again. And that took forever to come to our table. On top of the horrible service. We got charged a "25% service charge" for a table of 4 adults and two babies (who didn't even eat)And when the waitress came to take the bill. She complained to us that we didn't leave a tip and that the 25% service charge is not a tip and wanted more money on top of that. I guess the service charge is a "white person" tax. So be aware when you pay if you don't speak Spanish. They will try and charge you more. Safe to say. We will not be going back. read more
