I wish there were a few strategically placed plants to allow for more intimate conversations. John had étouffée which he tells me was great. As a first experience of their Sunday brunch I was pleasantly surprised. No one would think of this hidden gem being located in Dickinson, Texas. Started with the raw shucked oysters along with some oysters rocker feller. The raw oysters were larger than most places I've visited which was definitely a positive. The mimosas weren't as tart as some other restaurants as then there's the Bloody Mary. I should warn you, it's a meal in itself, has a celery, olive, fried green tomato and a thick slice of bacon...great with Tito's vodka. They had a really good lox along with a delicious tuna ceviche. Lastly, ended with biscuits and gravy along with sausage and bacon. The decor and service were amazing...had very attentive management checking on all the tables as well. I was pleasantly surprised by Marais and our service! I saw it on the Good Eats show and decided to try it for a birthday dinner. The bananas foster bread pudding was the best bread pudding we've ever had, it got most of the review stars alone!!!!! They have a fine dining room with a beautiful bar and chandeliers, very nice. This is where we dined. They also had a casual bar area inside and out that was also really nice. The waiter (Rocky) was a great server, very attentive. The chicken dish I ordered had crawfish and I did not realize it when ordered and he so kindly had it remade without it (I did not even ask). They bring butter and bread right away that was delicious. For appetizers we got the Marais Oysters with feta, bacon, tomato and the okra rellenos (not a fan, this was our only negative on our visit). Wedge salads and the Main courses were blackened chicken with sauce, rice and the Cajun Grits Mes Amis (delicious). We also ordered a side of mashed potatoes that were amazing (not sure all the flavors but very good). Definitely worth a visit, we will be back. read more

Having heard a lot about this place, we had been wanting to try for some time. We found the time on a deferred Valentines Day visit (Saturday after the weekday actual holiday). We made reservations which was a key, as it was definitely overflow when we arrived at 7:00. They had valet parking (seemingly) only which isn't my preference. The valet service was fast (a couple of guys moving quickly) but again, for $5 I'd rather just get another drink inside. The valet vs. no valet debate is for another place and time. Despite our reservation we had to wait a few minutes for our table. Not uncommon, especially when facing the unpredictable nature of how fast the tables get turned. There were two bars to wait, one in the main dining room, then one on the water side (with the famed bar swings). The latter was great for us, as there was a small table for two for us to wait. We weren't ready to get drinks yet, but the server came quickly anyway and assured us it was no problem to wait there without ordering. There were several others waiting as well. Once seated the service was lightning fast. I noticed there wasn't a menu here to review on Yelp, it appears to me it moves with the seasons and changes a lot. Our server asked if we'd eaten there before as to explain some changes to their menu. He moved quickly and took our drink/appetizer order. The only problem was, the appetizer order was never placed in the kitchen. Turns out the main courses came out quickly and it wasn't missed as far as being hungry goes. There was break to snack on as we waited. Back to the menu, it featured a variety of steak and seafood options, as well as chops (pork or lamb), soups, pastas, and salads. Something for everyone. We went seafood and were not disappointed. She liked her redfish, I liked the scallops. It featured four, perfectly seared large sea scallops on mushroom and lobster risotto. Perfect portion as well. She liked her redfish (served with skin down) that came with etouffe'. We weren't going to go for dessert, but because he missed the appetizer he insisted we be comped one. It was a delicious (very hot) bananas foster that was enough for two, maybe three. The service was great other than the missed appetizer. He took the orders by memory (sign of a seasoned veteran) but the obviously has drawbacks! read more

We came here for date night and had a wonderful time. The food was fresh and delicious, and the service perfect. We had the shrimp and grits and blackened snapper- both were perfectly seasoned and cooked. For dessert, we tried the chocolate pecan pie and homemade whipped cream. So good! The owners are lovely, and we enjoyed walking around the place- many different seating areas depending on our mood and the weather! I had a cocktail called Pimms Cup,, which is very refreshing,, it was an alcoholic tea with cucumber, oranges, and strawberries in it.We had the black-eyed pea gumbo for a starter, it was amazing. We finished by splitting the shrimp and chicken pasta in a Cajun Alfredo sauce. That was very good as well. We were too full to get dessert, but I have heard that their beignets are very good!!! Tonight is my 5th wedding anniversary and we came here to celebrate and it was an excellent choice. The restaurant is brand new and they are still working out some kinks but other than those everything was pretty perfect. There is no self parking. Valet is your only option. We visited the fine dining part of the complex. It was every bit as you would expect from a fine dining experience. My wife had a cup of the seafood gumbo, very dark roux, just beautiful. It was a little salty and could have used a little heat but overall it was excellent. I had the Seafood Platter. It was huge! I substituted the oysters for fried shrimp. The batter on the shrimp, fish and crab beignet were all corn meal based. I guess they forgot the crab cake came with the platter because there didn't seem to be one. It was ok because it was more food than I could eat. After we ate we took a stroll by the bayou on the small boardwalk, it is very scenic. Very nice place. We will be back... read more

Recent visit was memorable for all of the wrong reasons. The first time was okay so my hopes were high. Out of the 12 entrees served to our party, 1 was prepared properly. Not only did they fail in authenticity, execution was mediocre at best. The highlight was my dish and it wasn't finished...topped with crabmeat , Nope! Many dishes were nearly cold when they got to the table and should have been sent back, trashed and redone, properly. We even got two cocktails that were completely wrong, had an off taste and appetizers that lacked attention. Mind you, they were busy, but not slammed. Our waiter was good, but I believe a bit overwhelmed. GM/manager came by table and was pleasantl. Due to the occasion and someone else picking up the tab we didn't complain, but it was an expensive disappointment. I hoped this visit would beat my first trip, but it was not a winner. This is a very nice establishment for this area. I have only been for brunch a few times but it is magical if you aren't in the loop and live SE Houston/Galveston. Live jazz music and an ambience that is like no other. The bar is fun with swings, and the food is pretty good. The buffet is slightly high at about $32, but it comes with an omelet station, oysters, and prime rib station in addition to a cute dessert and fruit section, seafood sides, grits, bacon, fried catfish, chicken and waffles, sausage, salads, and rice with gumbo (I think) the service is 100%, bringing in the five star rating. The food on the a la cart menu is all delicious, the eggs Benedict with the addition of a crab cake is delicious (not a frozen crab patty) but get an extra side if you like to eat :). Food is SO good and their cocktails are addicting! Great happy hour specials! Last night we had their steak and lobster special and it was fantastic. Drinks were perfect and happy prices so that made it even better! The staff is so friendly and attentive, you really feel appreciated from the moment you walk in the door. They have multiple levels which lends to multiple appropriate attire. Very casual in 1st level bar with main dining room attire much nicer. Local resident. Atmosphere was good. Service was good. Left 23% tip. Here is the truth. We had the restaurant week menu. Bill for two people was 115. Food was on the cool side. Quantities were minimal at best. I had the grouper. On the fishy side. When fish taste fishy, it is old. Sides were "meh". Oh yea, I don't drink alcohol. We ordered dessert because it goes to charity. I had the biscuit strawberry shortcake. Wasn't worth throwing up. Had one bite and trashed it. Awful. I really like the what they are doing with the decks and dining room. IMO opinion, the chefs name is on the door.
