I had the Poseidon Branzino which was fabulous. The dish had roasted branzino, medley of sautéed cherry tomatoes and onions, fresh herb rice, and skordalia (I had to look up what that is - a fascinating Greek garlic puree). The blending of all those flavors made for a scrumptious dinner, and thanks to the kitchen team for preparing it perfectly so that I could even eat the skin of the fish. We shared two bottles of Assyrtiko wine which is one of our favorite Greek wines after visiting Greece a few years ago. The wine list at Taverna is simple but thorough and fun to experiment with. Walking in you'll feel like you've been transported to a village like, Greek atmosphere. To sit down you'll check in with the host and then be seated either inside or on the rooftop. We opted for the rooftop as it was a nice evening. To start I ordered the Baklava Old Fashioned (Bulleit bourbon, homemade baklava syrup, Angostura bitters, and Amarena cherries) which was amazing. Next we ordered the trio of all three spreads (Tzatziki, sun-dried tomato hummus, and spicy feta spread) and the calamari. Both dishes were excellent and I definitely prefer the spicy feta and tzatziki sauce. For my main course I ordered the Tomahawk Pork Chop (Chargrilled tomahawk chop, spinach, barrel-aged feta, herb aioli, Greek lemon potatoes) which was a bit disappointing. I probably should have sent the pork chop back as it was cooked well done and was very dry but was I was too hungry and didn't want to make my parents wait. For dessert I ordered Baklava Cheesecake (New York-style cheesecake with nuts and baklava filling) which was very nice and my mom ordered the Limoncello cake (lemon cake with lemon cream frosting) which was definitely the star of the show. If I'm back downtown I may try Taverna Agora again but will definitely avoid ordering the pork chop.

The sauce itself was delicious, which made it even more disappointing because the pasta was basically mush. I brought it to their attention, and they apologized, but then told me the kitchen was closed. I believe they stop serving at 9:00 p.m., and it was only 9:03 p.m. when I mentioned the issue. Whether the kitchen was technically closed or not, fixing the dish would have only required boiling a small portion of pasta and adding some of the sauce that I assumed was already prepared. I mean it was literally 3mins past 9pm there's no way they cleaned the kitchen and packed up that quick. There were still multiple tables here. Instead, I was told there was nothing they could do, though they would remove the item from the bill. While I appreciate not being charged, I don't think that was the most appropriate solution because it essentially meant I didn't get to eat a main course. My husband still had his meal, so at that point it didn't seem worth leaving or trying to find food elsewhere after already spending around $70 on dinner (the pasta not included). If it had been much later in the evening, or I wanted to add something to my bill, I would have understood, but being only a few minutes past closing made the response feel disappointing. The flavors were excellent, and up until that point the experience had been very good. I really wanted that pasta too haha. The sauce was so good. I hope they handle situations like this differently in the future.

This is definitely some of the best pho I've ever had and when I return will definitely be getting my own. That fried rice is incredible too, the Chinese sausage really makes it flavorful. The restaurant is small but tables are evenly placed so you don't feel like you are on top of your neighbor and it's very clean. This is a great place for the price point. The food is really solid, and coupons come in the mail frequently to knock a dollar off here and there. Owner is a chill dude too, and he's honest. The food is solid, less than 10 bucks a person, and filling. My favorite thing is the gyro, but I've never been outright disappointed with anything. It's just not the place to eat out if you're going to splurge. I wouldn't mind a renovation on the interior either, but it's a nice spot to sit and talk for an hour or so. read more

The oldest non-barbeque restaurant in town. At least two generations. The property is not owned, thus the unfortunate looks from outside. Not sure why the property owners don't want to sell. The inside is pleasant, the food is great. Good selection of beers. It works as an old style diner, you order at the counter, and they bring the food out to your table. I discovered Nino's when looking for places to dine over my stay in Greenville, NC. I read it was a…read morebusy place so I made sure to make a reservation. When I arrived, I thought I was going to a fine dining establishment with the decor outside and patio. Even the chandeliers and painted ceiling when entering set my expectations high. Then I was seated in the empty Rat Pack room. It was obvious that I was exiled to be hidden away from the other diners in the main dining area. A couple did join me over an hour later. I would have been fine dining in the room to myself if the staff standing around the hostess stand were not loudly complaining about their personal problems such as their high electric bills, rent payments or needing to complete homework. These conversations belong in the break room, and not for guests to need to listen to, so much for the fine dining atmosphere. My waitress was friendly but did not go over the specials, or seem that familiar with the menu. I started with the Sicily Sunset and some bread. Then I ordered the Pear and Cheese Sacchetti. The pasta pouches filled with cheese and pears in an Alfredo sauce. It was to come with the garnish of cracked pepper, Romano cheese and parsley but that was missing. Parmesan was added at the table. I was a little shocked when my dish arrived within minutes of ordering. It made me feel like I was being rushed as I was isolated and the food came out too quickly. I do wonder if it was freshly made. I could tell they were trying to turn the table quickly as then the dessert menu arrived while I was still eating my entree. The pasta dish was good with the textures and flavor. I would have had a better opinion of the food if I had just ordered that and skipped the dessert. The dessert menu wasn't very Italian so that was disappointing. I had to laugh that the assorted Italian cookies contained chocolate chip, sprinkles, and a chocolate dipped cookie. I did take a photo of the menu, so you can read it yourself. I went with the profiterole, not realizing their version was pre-made. So they took it out of the refrigerator and served it cold. The pasty's texture was changed by the temperature and was chewy. The chocolate ganache had hardened rather than flowing like lava. The dish was not good and I didn't finish. I did mention to the waitress that it was not good and she just said that they might make it different. They pre-prepare it so it isn't fresh. For the price, the service, atmosphere and pacing were below professional standards. I do not recommend Nino's if you are looking for an upscale environment. I would not return after my experience.
