The street corner is not that busy allowing for those sitting outside to enjoy the weather and the ambiance of outdoors. Wait time: There is not a long wait time between arrival and being seated and food is promptly delivered upon ordering. Service: The staff that works here is extremely friendly and reminds me of the same Italian hospitality that is so well known in the culture. The staff also is helpful with ordering, keeps drinks filled, and check on their guests without being overbearing. Food: The lasagna that is served is extremely fresh with the taste of fresh pasta and good ricotta and filling is generous with every layer. There is also bread served before the lasagna and a side salad too provided before the meal. Overall, Marcella's was a delightful Italian restaurant experience with delicious homemade pasta and extremely friendly staff who enjoy their jobs. This spot is a casual takeaway spot with some tables inside but all of the food comes in to-go style boxes. My friends and I tried: Butternut Squash (lightly sweet), Mushroom, and the Abruzzo (probably the most disappointing as there wasn't much spiciness or italian sausage). One of my favorite lasagna places in San Francisco! We went on a weekend afternoon and the place was packed. We had to wait around 15 minutes for seats. The restaurant felt really cozy and the day was super nice out and sunny so we decided to sit outside. We got the meat sampler lasagna and the mushroom ravioli. I enjoyed the meat sampler lasagna a lot. The meat sauce was flavorful and packed with delightful tomato taste. 5/5. I wish the portion sizes are bigger. Loved Marcella's Lasagneria! Wish there were more restaurants like Marcella's-- it's a cute neighborhood gem! This lasagna shop differs from others because it doesn't use the thick lasagna sheets like a lot of other places do. We ordered the Abruzzo (Italian sausage) and Bolognese (ground sirloin angus beef) lasagnas and enjoyed them both. Interior is small with all outdoor style garden tables and service was friendly. Came here to get some takeout for lunch on a Friday. The servers were extremely friendly and attentive even though they were packed with dine in customers. Their lasagna really stands out among the average. I don't usually go for lasagna when I have the option of other pasta because often times the lasagna sheets are super thick and doughy. About 10 years ago, I worked at a company that would have catered lunch once a week and Marcella's was always one of my favorites. The lasagna using thin fresh pasta was nothing like I'd had before (except for in Italy) and the flavors were amazing. The abruzzo, pesto, and butternut squash were my favorites. Inspired by Marcella's, I even learned to make my own lasagna using fresh pasta but lemme tell you, it's a labor of love and who has time for that? I've made it out to the restaurants a few times since and it never fails to disappoint. I love the outdoor seating on nice days and the staff has always been nice. The bread, chili oil, and salad that come with an order of lasagna are all very good too. I want some of that chili oil to take home. I keep meaning to try their pastas, but the lasagnas are too good to pass up and the portion sizes are healthy enough that I leave feeling stuffed as is. read more

We waited an hour to dine here last weekend, and unfortunately the whole experience was fairly underwhelming. I had the abruzzo lasagna, bolognese lasagna, and tiramisu. The lasagna came out barely lukewarm and lacked flavor. It didn't taste that fresh. The only good thing about the lasagna was that the layers of pasta sheets were nicely thin. The helpful host was able to accommodate us, as well as several 2-top tables, with the help of an upstairs room. We were greeted right away and got a table for 3. The service was great and they were accommodation. We had a size of meatballs which were not on the menu , but the let us order as a side. Super cute mom and pop shop that I've bookmarked for a while. Reviews look great, but maybe it overhyped my expectations. I ordered the bolognese lasagna and my friend got the eggplant lasagna. The orders came with soup or salad and we both opted for the tomato soup. It was very bland and watery. I did enjoy the bread with the balsamic and olive oil dip though. When the lasagna came out in their cute little pans, I expected a bubbling hot dish, but what I got was a lukewarm dish with overly soft pasta sheets that was a bit mushy. Flavor was bland, too. It was a very hefty piece, loaded with flavor and generous meat, with a perfectly crispy bottom that added another element of texture. - Spaghetti Carbonara - local champignon fresh mushrooms, smoked pancetta, touch of cream, grated Parmigianino. Fantastic balance of creaminess and cheesiness without being too strong or overbearing. Pancetta added a bite of texture and fattiness and was perfectly cooked. My girlfriend and I come here often for lunch and share a bottle of wine with some delicious pasta and it feels like we were transported to Italy! It gives off neighborhood community vibes, and the service is excellent! Would highly recommend but make sure to head over before noon because they close early. Dogpatch, Potrero and SF in general need more of these kinds of casual lunch places that you can stop by for a quick bite in the middle of the work day. I was glad to finally get to try the Abruzzo Lasagna after hearing a lot about it: the portion size was good (and should be expected given the high price for a quick lunch). The sauce and cheesiness was good as were the sausage pieces but I would have liked a little bit more of the sausage throughout my lasagna - it seemed like a light sprinkle and a bit uneven. Lasagna is one of my specialties. I tend to look for great lasagna, restaurants in all the cities that I travel or live. I was excited because Marcella's had such great ratings here on yelp. I ordered the spicy sausage. Unfortunately, it came with a medium size portion. (lasagna need to come in large portions! ) And it came burnt at the bottom. In addition, because the restaurant is on the other side of town, it took an hour after they picked it up to get it to me. The driver they used had many stops between there and me and they do not allow Uber or any other food delivery. So as much as it might be good I had a bad meal and I'm finding that the distance from them to the residential section of San Francisco is too far. Your food comes cold, and then you have to reheat it, and then it becomes reheated leftovers. I will try it again when I'm over on that side of the city to see if it's better in person. Given it 3 star for now. Out of respect for all the other yelp elites reviews I will try it again in person to eliminate the delivery component of this, and if the lasagna is better, I'll upgrade the ranking. But until then it's hard for me to give more than a three star. Between the temperature and the size and the timing and the fact it was burnt. It's not worth a four-star or higher at least not with my experience. read more

Quick and friendly service at the order counter, and though I placed my order to go, the dine-in service seemed attentive and friendly toward guests. It took about 15-20 minutes for my food to be ready on a Thursday. There was so much good stuff on the menu to choose from, like the verdura lasagna (pesto, roasted zucchini, sun-dried tomatoes) and ravioli al tarfuto (italian cheeses, mushroom, black truffle, white wine cream sauce). I opted for the bianca lasagna (white sauce with pancetta and caramelized onions), and it was creamy and delicious, and strong in the onion flavor, a little too heavy with the onions if you ask me. But this place was too good to not review!!! My friends were raving about this place for a while, but due to limited hours never really got a chance to try. But finally got to order for takeout on a Friday lunch, which they still seemed to have a long wait for dine in! Waited for takeout for about 40 min after calling, but it was well worth it. I got the Verdura, which was their pesto vegetarian lasagna with zucchini and nutless pesto. The aluminum tray was still warm after bringing it back after 30ish min. They also gave a good amount of side salad and two pieces of bread, so it's a pretty solid meal. The lasagna, omg was it amazing! From the first bite you can tell how balanced the flavors were, from the pesto, to the well cooked pasta, and the cheese. I was surprised at how well it tasted for takeout, hence me writing this review! It definitely had me wanting more. Next time I will definitely try this place in person, if it was this good for takeout. But I wouldn't be disappointed if I got takeout again to try their other flavors! The food here was disappointing, which was a surprise given the great reviews, the number of people waiting for dine in, and how frequently other people were picking up take out or catering trays. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and waited around 30 mins. There was only 1 main person seating and serving everyone with 1 other person occasionally helping out when they weren't busy with the line at the register. Since we were seated right next to the register and it was getting closer to closing time, we luckily didn't have to wait too long to order. However, there was a table outside who ended up coming in to order because no one had checked in on them. The food also took awhile to arrive. The Ravioli al Tartufo was decent. The sauce was great, maybe a tad bit too salty, while the ravioli filling was bland. I had to get more sauce onto the ravioli after every bite. My husband got the Bolognese Lasagna. He's typically pretty easy to please but even he didn't really care for it. There wasn't much flavor (it really only tasted like onion to me, but I don't like onion so it probably stood out more). But the biggest problem was just how dry it was. Not sure if this was related to how busy they were or how close it was to closing by the time we got our food. read more

So we decided to mix it up this thanksgiving and in lieu of a turkey went for lasagna and it might've been the best thanksgiving decision we've ever made. Abruzzo - unbelievably fantastic lasagna. The best I've ever had because I have yet to go to Italy in my lifetime. Layers upon layers of thin sheets of perfectly cooked pasta, nestled with sauce and cheese and a sausage that had great combo of flavor and a little bit of heat (not that spicy tbh). The tomato sauce was perfection. It is a dense lasagna yet somehow I couldn't stop eating. Eggplant - this one ended up not being what I expected. It wasn't bad just different. I thought it'd be eggplant parm meets lasagna but it was more of a diced up eggplant sauce. The herbs and spices in the sauce gave it some kind of middle eastern taste instead of the Italian that I was expecting. It was hard because I was eating both slices side by side and they had different flavor profiles. I think had I eaten this one by itself, I would've liked it more. read more
