From time to time, I like to visit new Peruvian food restaurants. This time, Mares welcomed us very warm and friendly. We got out table right away and we received chanchita chulpi immediately. It was really good because it tasted very fresh. The order took a bit longer than expected and I noticed that it happened to all the tables. I tried the makis acevichados. The taste was good, but they are not the peruvian makis I have tried for years in Peru. This was something different, but still good. The tacu tacu with lomo saltado, though. It was really good. I liked when it comes with a tick sauce instead of just water. The tacu tacu may have needed to get crispy a little bit, but the flavor was amazing. The flavors are great and the the food was cooked fairly well. The meat for the Lomo saltado was not cooked evenly, some were medium well, some medium, some medium rare, and the fries were hard like they were old. The positives for this dish was that the rice was cooked well and the flavor was good. Would be better too if there were more tomatoes sautéed with the beef. the only complaint for the rice with fish was that the scallops were a bit tough. Otherwise it was really delicious. We also tried the Chica morada which was refreshing but had a spice favorite to it, so if you don't like that, beware. We liked it a lot. Overall, still quite good and I'd be willing to come back to try something new. read more

This my second trip here. Totally my fault that I went here and they offer toasted corn to snack on. I had a temporary crown on #31. The rest was miserable experience for me. Only me to blame. My wife had her usual classic cevichè and I had cevichè Le Tigrè. We shared a Peruvian Chinese fried rice. Mares used to be a good Peruvian option for Orlando, with delicious food, great customer service and descent prices. All those three are gone. Food was ok, ordered my go-to which is the lomo saltado, flavors were ok but sauce was salty and rice was dry. To top things off, I received my food and my partner had to wait another 20+ minutes to receive her food. Server did not check on us, our drinks never got refilled, we had to call him to get our check. Prices are high with low customer service and low quality food, this is why I believe they need to work to improve and hence the 3-star rating. read more

If you are in the Hunters Creek area, this place is a must!!! We live about 35 mins away but we'll worth the drive. This place has a small restaurant feel but it could easily be fine dining. The decor was chic contemporary. Loved the colors and textures all through the restaurant. Also had tables outside to eat...groups of more than 6 might have a hard time sitting on a busy night... Started off with stuffed plantains with shrimp (tostones rellenos) and it was soooooo good!!! Wife ordered Maki salmon which is just a sushi roll and it was delicious! I had the pescado a lo macho and it exceeded my expectations! It was a swai filet topped with mussels, shrimps, calamari, scallops in this creamy, cheesy sauce. AMAZING!!!! Great service but prices are high, and on top of it, the menu prices are lowered than what they actually charged. The claimed was that the website reflects the right prices but they did not disclose that information until I asked of price discrepancy (after I paid). I'm going with 5 stars because service is great and the food is pretty freaking good. This restaurant is easily one of my top Peruvian restaurants, although it unfortunately is very very far from me so I cannot visit as often as I would like. When I visited I had the seco combinado, which is a beef stew in cilantro, with a side of canario beans and rice. Now, canario beans are not to be confused with navy or white beans, these beans are typical of Peru and you will not find anywhere else other than Peruvian/Hispanic groceries. I also had a fish ceviche, which was good despite having generic fish and not premium sea bass. I can't complain about the ceviche, to be honest. I'm not sure if they had typical drinks or if everything was alcoholic drinks and some Peruvian sodas, anyway I always prefer water with my meal because I like to keep my kidneys healthy (sorry for too much information). I recommend this place to all. When I was leaving I ran into some friends, who are not Peruvian, so this place is truly international. That is cool, because Peruvian food is amazing! read more

This place is basically stealing from people. We were charged an automatic gratuity of 5 people when we were only 4. When confronted we were told it was because it was Father's Day and everyone had an automatic gratuity. The problem is no one informed us before sitting down to eat. The food was 5/10. This is my second time and I'm happy I gave it another chance. I love that you start off with a bowl of cancha, toasted corn. They are so flavorful, crunchy, and addicting; you can't stop eating them! What made this experience different from the first was our server. Sebastain was very respectful and always had his full profile to us. He was attentive to our needs, and was able to get us some extra sauce from the tacu tacu. Very sweet server, thank you for your hospitality! The flavors of each dish was so amazing. The ceviche and the balance of lime was the perfect amount. My dish, arroz Chaufa, was exactly what I wanted for the night. I wish the chicken wasn't dry, or that maybe it would come with some kind of sauce or lime on the side. I could've asked but I was also enjoying my plate the way it came. My boyfriend got the filet mignon tacu tacu and that sauce was *chefs kiss* so good!! We had to ask for more! It is a small sized restaurant with limited seating so if you have a big group you might want to call in advance and see if their availability. There is seating outside and it was comfortable. We had a hiccup with our reservation but Sebastian the supervisor saved the night. Let's talk about the food. I had a Maretazo, a giant martini glass with ceviche mixto and una jalea de mariscos. The day was perfect for seating outside and our server Sebastian was amazing, he kept on stopping by to see if we needed anything else and always with a big warm smile. Now to the food... great! I am absolutely pleased! As a Peruvian living in Orlando, it's hard for me to find anything close to the Peruvian food I know and love. So when I heard of Mares, I had to go try the food and took one of my Peruvian friends with me! It was easy to find the location and it's in a nice area. I'm a huge fan of colors and absolutely loved how colorful the restaurant is. Once we entered, we were greeted by Jimy, our server, and Arturo, the owner. They were very friendly and were very knowledgeable explaining how they make Leche de Tigre. I wasn't sure what to get, so I went with Causa, which is one of my favorite dishes aside from Lomo Saltado, and my friend got a dish that has Octupus and Ceviche! While we waited, we received Canchita and shots of Leche de Tigre. I also ordered Chicha Morada and my friend got Inka Kola. We didn't have to wait long for our food, which was nice. I loved how beautiful my Causa looked, but what was important to me was the taste. I've tried different types of Causa before and some restaurants fail to balance out the flavors between the aji and lime. This Causa was delicious and the flavors were there. When I asked my friend about her dishes, she loved both of them. Next, we had some cocktail drinks and dessert. We were not going to get dessert, but after I heard that the owners wife makes them, I had to get one. I ended up getting the Mousse de Chirimoya. Chirimoya is one of my favorite fruits, so I was excited to try this. The dessert was delightful! The texture, the flavor - it was wonderful! You can definitely taste the Chirimoya, which was such a treat to me. The drinks we got were Chicha Sour and Pisco Sour. My friend had never had Chicha Sour, but she really liked her drink. As for me, I've had both before in Peru, so I knew what I was looking for. They were nice and smooth! Both my friend and I had bad experiences with Pisco Sour, so it was nice to see that Mares knows how to make their drinks! Visiting Mares was important to me because I have been overly disappointed with most of the Peruvian restaurants we have here in Orlando, but Mares definitely brings something special to Orlando and that is the flavors and the beauty that Peruvian food is. So if you are looking for some authentic Peruvian food, this is definitely the place to try. The food was delicious, the service was great (they were very attentive) - jimy, our waiter was awesome! The owner Arturo was very nice and I am happy that he mentioned his wife makes the desserts! The restaurant is vibrant and overall it was a good time. Although it's quite a bit of a drive for me, I am excited to take my husband and can't wait to go back so I can try the Lomo Saltado and Papa a la huancaina next. read more
