A group of us went to Margaritas last night. I've been to the Smithtown location and had a wonderful experience. This time, not so wonderful at the Wantagh location. What it really comes down to is the service, or lack there of. I always try to give the benefit of the doubt being a server myself, but last night was just horrible. I ordered a margarita to start, it took 20 minutes to come to the table. We ordered our meals, some came out wrong. My friend and I both ordered a second margarita, only hers came out and they were the same margarita. Mine took about 20 minutes. The service was just lacking. We had to ask multiple times for things that never came out. Dessert came and it was incorrect again... What really took the cake for me was when we received our bill, despite being only 5 people, there was an automatic charge for using a card (why do you assume this?) and 20% gratuity already added in!!! She did not deserve 20% nor did I want to give it to her. All in all, the food is a 4 but the service is a 2 at best.... Find a different location to dine at. read more

I've always loved Margarita's Café, but my recent visit to the Wantagh location was really disappointing. Online (see screenshot below), they clearly advertised Unlimited Tacos for $21.95 AND House Margaritas for only $2.95 for Taco Day. That's exactly why we decided to go. When we arrived, we ordered the $2 drinks but didn't get a special menu. When I asked about the all-you-can-eat tacos, the waitress told us we couldn't combine offers -- even though the post online specifically mentioned both deals together. I politely explained that the promotion didn't mention any restrictions, and that this was the reason we came. Instead of helping, she said she could charge us full price for the margaritas and then give us the taco deal. We told her we needed a minute to think, but she never came back. We saw her serving other tables, and after an hour, a different server came over and asked if we needed anything -- at that point, we just asked for the check since we had been completely ignored. To make things worse, when I was leaving, I tried to take a picture of the taco menu (which we hadn't been given initially), and a waiter ran over asking, "What are you doing?" I said I just wanted to see the special menu, and he insisted there wasn't one -- until I said the waitress had shown it to us earlier, and then suddenly he pulled it out. It felt sketchy and unprofessional. I left feeling unwelcome and frustrated. The online post was misleading, the service was rude and inattentive, and the whole experience was uncomfortable. I went in on a Thursday evening (their ladies night). I started with the taquitos de pollo. They were well crafted (they didn't fall apart when I picked them up) and crispy (crunchy and perfect for dipping). The chicken inside could've been more seasoned but they were good overall. For dinner I had the enchiladas suzias and I have no complaints. My food came out hot with melty cheese and their refried beans are LIT. Apparently on ladies night their martinis are $4.95 (an absolute steal). I ordered the mango flavor and again, I have no complaints. My drinks were chilly, tasty, and strong. The service was good too. The server was kind, attentive, and did not neglect to check and ensure that everything was ok. The ambiance was very on brand for a margarita spot. This place had cool artwork on the walls and was aesthetically pleasing. The seating area is separated from the bar by a wall but the music is loud in the dining room (it didn't bother me but I realize this may not be for everyone). My only qualm throughout my experience was that my food came out at the perfect temperature but got cold fast because the AC was blasting (which is perfectly understandable because the staff is working and it's easy to get warm when you're running around). We had lunch at Margaritas Cafe today. We've eaten here 2 or 3 times before and always had a great lunch. Today was no different. We have always eaten outside (they have a nice shaded dining area in front of the restaurant) but decided to eat inside today due to the humidity. The restaurant is very festive, with neon colored decorations, string lights hanging from the ceiling, and great music that makes you want to move. The service was friendly and attentive. The food is very good. We usually start with guacamole - but skipped it today. The guac is always very good and on one visit it was made table side. We noticed a section on the menu listing non-alcoholic beverages. We both order the NA strawberry colada. It was delicious and hit the spot on this very hot and humid early June day. The chips and salsa are very good. The salsa is thick, has some spice, but not too overpowering. My wife ordered the shrimp fajitas and I had the shrimp in a salsa verde sauce. The sauce was so delicious- herby, garlicky and citrusy. Five perfectly cooked jumbo shrimp with rice, beans, lettuce. I enjoyed every bite. My wife had a sizzling plate with 5 grilled jumbo shrimp, peppers and onions, served with flour tortillas and a plate with guac, tomatoes, lettuce, rice and beans. She enjoyed her lunch and brought home enough for a leftover fajita. (sounds like I'll be attacking that soon.) We didn't have dessert. We had the flan once before and it was probably the best I ever had. Maybe next time. And no photos. I just got my Elite Status and a rookie mistake right at the start. I wouldn't write anything except I am just pissed because the 20% gratuity was already included. So they can be horrible and still get 20%, its just not right, take some damn ride in your work. I love Margaritas Cafe. I have been there many times ( as well as the east meadow location ) and i have never been disappointed. Servers are always lovely . They are friendly and attentive . Even on a busy day the servers check in on you and keep water , drinks and chips coming . when i went on Friday it was loud , and that was at 415 in the afternoon . I mean music and people near us lol ! It really had no impact on my meal with my daughter . It was delicious . Her diet is non dairy and gluten free. Mexican food in general offers a lot of options. As the saying goes ...a picture is worth a thousand words! So look at our meal and think hot , authentic , tasty and perfectly executed. On Friday April 19th my wife and I decided to order the QUESADILLA DE LANGOSTA x2 Upon my arrival to p/u our to go order before I even exited my vehicle I could hear an obnoxiously loud thumping. This was ridiculous... I entered the restaurant and the DJ was so loud that I had to holler at the host to inform him I was there to p/u our order of QUESADILLA DE LANGOSTA $24.00 not cheap! Upon hearing me shout out my order to the host the bartender motioned for the DJ to lower the NOISE!!! in which he begrudgingly obliged but not by all that much still ridiculously loud. Maybe that's what no one was sitting at the bar!!! When I got home with our order the QUESADILLA DE LANGOSTA x(2) At $24.00 a piece again not cheap We were so looking forward to this meal. I rarely give 1 star. But we have been here (this location) a multitude of times. Not sure why we kept trying and going. The food first. It is just bland and not of quality. We have had both fatty or chewy chicken and steak. One time, cold fajita veggies on the skillet. Not sure how in the world that happens. Drinks are ok but it is never consistent. They dont seem to hold a bartender, so you either have a drink that is strong, weak or a bartender reading off the menu on how to make the drinks. We have hard of other locations, people getting ill from food poisoning. Not this location, but makes you wonder that they are spread too thin across the island. When they first opened, and the old decor, it was the spot to go. Now, its avoided and there are way too many other prime Mexican choices to dine at. read more

Went here on Taco Tuesday for dinner. We were seated promptly and ordered drinks. Our drinks came out fast and we're delicious. They give you complimentary nachos and salsa upon seating. That is where the good service ended. We kept having to flag down our waiter or asking another wait staff member to find him for us. I ordered chicken enchiladas, my cousin had loaded nachos and a chicken taco. My cousin found her chicken taco bland. It also never arrived when we first ordered it. We had to ask someone passing where it was because our waiter was nowhere to be found. When he finally showed up, he acted like we never ordered it, then brought one out. She liked her nachos, but found the meat too heavy, because her nachos were super soggy. My enchiladas were okay, but tasted over seasoned. I didn't finish it. Had to use a lot of pepper to hide the taste. We found that the wait staff likes to hang out by the kitchen door, play with each other and have a mini party, instead of serving the guests. That's why we could never find our waiter. This place was recommended to me, that's why I really wanted to try it. If I could give this place a Zero I would! I have never stepped into a business and been completely ignored, never being acknowledged. One of the many Margarita's Café locations! Came here for Happy Hour with a girl friend at 6pm. The bartender made us aware that the HH was only at the bar, until 7pm, then what was included and for how much. Enrique was the bartender and he was great! We went with the $4 house margaritas (no flavors allowed). They were tasty and strong! Since it was Monday night, the bartender made us aware that they had an all you can eat taco special for $17.95. Their taco entrees are the same price but come with rice and beans. We didn't need the rice and beans, so we decided to each do the special. You were able to pick from chicken, steak, tilapia, shrimp, ground beef, chorizo and pork. You order three at first and then can order however many after. I started with the steak, ground beef and chicken. I LOVED the steak one. Ground beef was second. And honestly I did not like the chicken, it was shredded and dry. The fish tacos also looked good. For additional sides we also got the tostones which comes with a special sauce on the side which was great. We will definitely be back for the HH and taco night! read more
