We also ordered the fried saltines which sounded interesting but were basic and underwhelming. Not worth the $9. Our meals were fantastic. Between all of us were ordered the grilled chicken sandwich (my meal - AMAZING!!). It was so flavorful and the chicken was juicy and tender. The fish and chips - also delicious but could have been slightly crispier and the steak sandwich which was also flavorful and tender. I ordered one Cosmo and it was absolute perfection. The White Whale Has Long been a staple to those of us who've lived in Seaford for 50+ years. Of course, it started off as another name but the White Whale Is well known on the Southshore. It's recently had a transformation and new ownership bringing a new vibe, specialty drinks, and an array of seafood and comfy foods. The bar is large and well stocked with a great Mixology on the premise... We had Jenny as our waitress who was amazing. Well it was worth a try. This restaurant has an identity crisis as they don't know if they're a restaurant or a club. Due to the extremely slow and inattentive service from our waiter we got a live DJ blasting music starting at 8pm just feet away from our table. But problems started right away as our first round of drinks took 15-20 minutes to get delivered and for some time I could see them waiting for us on the bar. We told the waiter we had been waiting a while for our drinks and received zero reaction much less an apology. The big room we were seated in was also pretty cold and several diners were keeping their coats on. The food was pretty good but we waited almost an hour between apps and dinner finally arriving. Our surly waiter could only be found at about 15-20 minute intervals and each round of drinks took way too long. It's a shame because the food was good but everything with the service ruined it. It looks like a fun bar for a night out but would not recommend for a nice family dinner. By the time we got dessert the area next to our table literally became a dance floor. And once the DJ started, dinner conversations were over. I saw the recent good reviews and decided to try it out in spite of the fact that my brother in law said they had a horrible experience last fall. We couldn't wait to get the check and leave. Food was 4 but service gets 0 so overall 2/5. No where on their website do I see anything about a live DJ on Friday nights, it just looks like a normal restaurant. read more

The renovated space looks great. However, the price per plate was higher than average. Also, there are stools inside the restaurant area which resulted in the bar happy hour crowd spilling over to the available seats in the restaurant area which resulted in a very loud sit down dinner. Alcoholic drinks tasted overly sweet and syrupy. Got a Diet Coke and it was flat. The Nacho Libre dish was good, but my mussels were disappointing--about half were not open therefore only ate half that were. By the time I was ready to eat, my fries were swarmed by yellow jackets. We were sitting outside, but the patio didn't feel equipped for dining. There were no citronella torches or candles to keep away mosquitoes or yellow jackets, which made it tough to enjoy the meal. We ended up leaving before I completely finished my entree. My bf got a burger and it sucked , overpriced. The place has potential, but the food, drinks, and service don't quite seem where they need to be yet. Adding outdoor torches or some form of pest control would make a big difference during these warm months. read more

I ordered a cold lobster roll- the menu description should actually have called it a mayonnaise sandwich in which if you're lucky you might find a few bites of lobster. It was actually disgusting and I'm shocked that an establishment wouldn't be completely embarrassed to pass that off as a an acceptable meal. My companions liked their meals for Whats it's worth: Bronzino, seared tuna, and the tuna tacos. The mussels appetizer was good; the meat was fresh and plump but the flavor left something to be desired. I didn't bother with the octopus it didn't look appealing and the "mango tartar" ( what it should have been called) appetizer had some hidden tuna in it instead of the other way around unfortunately. I just came from The White Whale and what a lovely experience it was. It's clean, the decor is very modern but nautical. Everything we ate was delicious, we had the steak, fried calamai, 2 different salads, and the clam chowder. The cocktails were great and the beer was cold! The staff was very attentive. My only negative would be that the menu is a little limited, but Tom came over to u s (2xs) to ask how everything was and said that in a couple of weeks they will be bringing more items to the menu, lets remember that they are only open 30 days. I am very much looking forward to returning. They also have a large side room that can be closed off by glass doors for private parties. Haven't been to the White Whale in many years. Ambiance is very nice with very good service. The restaurant was virtually empty on a Thursday night except for the local bar crowd. We were a party of 4. I ordered the Salmon special it was a little over cooked but good. I also had the lobster bisque which has a good amount of lobster in it, but was watery and lacked flavor. As a table we ordered the calamari which was undercooked. Other people ordered the shrimp scampi which gave one of our guests the runs that evening. The menu is priced moderately but on the high side. The menu selection was adequate. However, I've had better food at Chilis and other restaurants. I won't return anytime soon. read more

The clam chowder was made up of hard potatoes, maybe two clam bits and a watery broth. It was downhill from there.....each appetizer was worse than the next. Sad to say we live down the block and have been long awaiting the reopening. The wait was not worth it. A $21 smash burger that is smaller than All American. The wings have a very weird taste and were also very dry and over cooked. The calamari was ok but price is way out of sync. I will see the only thing the place has going for it is the beers on tap and decor. Walking into the restaurant, I was impressed with the freshness and design. That was the extent of my approvement. Staff was somewhat disinterested and unfriendly. I ordered the clam chowder that was both tasteless and lukewarm. I was given no soup spoon and when I asked for one, I was brought a teaspoon. Another in my party ordered the calamari. Although tastey, it was a meager portion. I ordered the double smash burger for my entree. It came with fries that were greasy and stuck together. The burger was smaller than I expected and not very tastey. Although I understand drinks (alcohol) will prop up the price of a restaurant bill, I was a bit surprised at the cost of dining at the White Whale. This is our new favorite local spot and we cant get enough of it! Came for dinner for the very first time on Thanksgiving eve, and have been back 3 or 4 times now! The calamari is so tender and the aioli it comes with is also amazing with their fries (which are also incredible). The wings are smokey and delicious, and our favorite entree is the Steak It sandwich. Its hard to try new things because we love these so much! Last night we tried the snapper special that had a southern touch to it... and it was one of my favorite meals I've ever had. The fish was cooked perfectly. I also have to shout out a bar tender-I believe her name is Grace. I assume she is the head bar tender? She is incredible at making drinks, and you can tell she cares. I come from the service industry myself since I was 15, so I truly appreciate great service. I really loved this place. It was my first time trying it and I brought the whole family. The owner Henriette came out to say hello and welcome us. She recommended the scrod oreganato, a dish I make at home a lot when I go fishing. It was light, flakey, fresh tasting and delicious. The waiter was super nice and patient with my kids, and that's always a big deciding factor for me. They even depleted the bar's supply of orange slices cause my youngest kept whining for more. The food is good and the people were really nice to us, but what I like the best is the unchanged decor. Its got a throwback all-wooden nautical feel that reminded me of the waterfront restaurants during the 80s. A lot of reviewers dont like that, but I do. Very local LI. My family has been coming here for years & we have always enjoyed good meals here. It's not fancy, but on the plus side it's not a cookie cutter Applebee's type joint either - basically, it's a local mom & pop operation where you can get a great meal if you can get over yourself & relax. I came here for lunch with my friend on a weekday. The food & service were EXCELLENT! The waitress Nora was very attentive and friendly. I had a 3 course lunch with salad, skirt steak & lobster tail and dessert for $20!!! The food was very good!!! I will definitely come back with my husband for lunch or dinner. The seafood chowder was disgusting. Gelatinous, full of imitation crab meat, and $10. The broiled scallops and mashed potatoes were flavorless and poorly prepared. The scallops were broken and grainy. I ordered water the moment I sat down and received a glass 20 minutes later between the soup and main course. There was one other table seated outside. I have to say, every time I've been here it's never busy. But the food is always great! The only reason why I gave this only 4 stars is because the Parmesan cheese that was served with our meal was spoiled and I didn't realize until I put it on my food and tasted it! The waitress was great and got me a brand new dish, but it just left a bad taste (pun intended) in my mouth. I got a special, the bay scallops with linguine fra diavolo. It came with a salad and since my MIL's entree came with a salad as well, they upgraded both of our salads to a large Caesar salad which was delish and huge in portion! My hubby got the fish cakes which are so good and filled with chunks of scallops, shrimp and cod.
